As it is in such demand all tables were taken and some reserved, but the friendly assostant made an estimate when a table would be free and offered us a menu to start perusing. Table became free within minutes of estimated time. Food was quickly served. Both salads, salmon and beetroot with goats cheese, were beautifully presented, tasted delicious, and very enjoyable. A good variety of colours and textures. It was all presented very well with a smile under pressure of a full lunch-time. Highly recommended, we'll be back.

Having been coming to the east coast of Scotland for many years I feel really disappointed we hadn't discovered this little gem of a cafe until now. The quality of the food they offer is matched only by the exceptional friendly service in a very unique location. Definitely worth booking a table because you'd be disappointed if you arrived and they were full! Thank you to all the lovely ladies who make a visit worth leaving a review!!!

Visited today with my wife and dog. We sat outside in the sunshine. The staff were super friendly and made us very welcome. Great varied menu, with choices to suit everyone. We had the bothy burger and goat cheese and beetroot salad. Both meals were excellent. Couldn't resist having dessert from their extensive range of cakes. Lovely place to visit. I would recommend it highly.

Had the pleasure of making a quick stop here after spotting the signs for the cafe on our drive to Thurso. We bought a bunch of goodies to take as snacks and put on sandwiches but we also tried the Victorian sponge and carrot cake. Both were moist and delicious! Would 100% recommend stopping here. We’re hoping to go back and try one of the toasties because they looked delicious.

What a lucky day we had today finding this delicious place. Just before all the Sunday bookings we just got a table. Staff and atmosphere were a delight. Food is amazing to look at and tastes great. OMG then we see the deserts, can we squeeze them in, we tried, some to take home in a box. Even though it will be a long drive we will go back it is worth it. You get very few places in Scotland as good as this.

The River Bothy is top notch in every way. Easy access, large parking area, lovely out door dining available and very charming inside the vintage building. The entire staff is welcoming, particularly Cathy. Great soups and my most favorite dish is the goat cheese salad. My hat is off to Mags who prepared it. The desserts are magnificent.

My friend and I visited the tearoom purely due to needing a break from our ride on the NC500 and seeing the sign on the road. What an absolute find! The building is in a lovely setting, the feel of the place very comfortable, the staff super friendly and accommodating (given we were wet bikers) and the food was absolutely fantastic. Proper home cooking. I opted for the fish soup and my friend the tomato and a sandwich as part of their combo. All was mouth watering and we wished we'd had room on the bikes for cake. Highly recommended 👌

We live 30 minutes south of this magical cafe and shop. We have known about it for a while, but recently two different friends recommended it and 'Goodness' - why have we waited so long to visit? As you walk in it is like a Christmas shop with tables and chairs and a wonderfully displayed counter where the three serving staff stand. We were lucky enough to meet the boss Fiona who came and had a chat with us - a charming lady. All the staff were delightful, but Paula was very friendly and after our meal, she took time to explain a little of the history of the old Laundry next door. We were so impressed with the Cafe that we asked Paula if we always needed to book in the Winter. Paula was kind enough to look up some dates that hadn't been booked around lunchtime and we came home and booked lunch in early December. It is recommended that you book to avoid disappointment.

A local referred us to this cafe and we were so grateful. There was plenty of parking outside and tables if you preferred to eat outside in the sun. The cafe is quite small but there is another room ant the side of the counter and obviously they have a lot of regular customers too. Everything is home made and it all looks so delicious it’s hard to choose what to have. We ordered the ham salad sandwich with salad and a pot of tea. The sweet cabinet was filled with a range of goodies from meringues to cakes & slices - all of which were very popular. What a fabulous place to stop for a snack or lunch. We enjoyed our lunch so much, we returned a couple of days later on our way to Perth and the ladies remembered us which was really nice. .

We stopped off here for a cup of tea on a road trip today. A wonderful experience. The café is beautifully presented with tasteful decor and also offers some craft items for sale. The staff ( a mother and daughter team I think) were very personable and chatty. All the food is home made and the cakes and pastries are just superb. The choice of toasties was also unusual and inventive. Mine was roast beef, horseradish, rocket and cheddar. Delish! My wife also loved her soup. Covid measures were very strictly observed and well signed. They have a “traffic light system” to control entry which employs a slate painted red on one side, green on the other. A real gem, and easily the nicest café we’ve visited over the course of a 2 week holiday.

I would like to start by saying that the food would have gained a five star review were it not for the upsetting disregard for safety measures against covid. There was hand sanitizer and clearly a cleaning regime but that was it. The very pleasant staff members were not wearing masks and there was no attempt at social distancing with customers. The vast majority of customers were not wearing masks when circulating and there were no signs to ask them to do so. I understand a small number of people cannot wear masks, however, this was excessive. When it got busy and the weather worsened, the staff shut the door, leaving no ventilation and allowed people to queue inside without masks next to our table. As said at the start of this review, although the food was wonderful, the experience was tainted by feeling upset at a disregard for required covid measures.

We were surprised that the staff were not wearing masks or visors at all, and no one else coming in seemed to be either. The food is lovely and good quality although over priced for what you get. £8.50 for a bagel! Overall it came to over £80 for lunch for 4 adults and 2 kids which seems an awful lot to me!!! It was a very wet day this morning when feeling a bit dull about heading back home after our NC500 trip, we came across the most amazing hidden gem! When arriving myself and partner were unsure if we’d be able to sit in due to COVID restrictions but the river bothy did not disappoint they are managing things very well. I had the most delicious avocado and mushrooms on scrumptious crusty bread, beautifully presented and my partner had the ‘big breakfast’ which was definitely the biggest we’ve ever seen! Again scrumptious and not one complaint to make, the portion sizes and cost is brilliant and I can assure you that you will not leave hungry! The cakes were mesmerising and we couldn’t resist buying a few to take out, the biscoff cake, strawberry tarts and cabana slice were to die for. Visited the River Bothy yesterday just after 2pm on a family day out just looking to get a hot drink and a cake.On arriving at the doorway we were very abruptly intercepted by a woman instantly announcing that they were closed despite signage saying that they were open until 4pm, she then announced that we could get takeaway only but to wait at the door until she said we could come in. At no time did she greet us or welcome us to the establishment or make us feel remotely welcome. We then waited for a good 10 minutes whilst the 3 staff served a family of 4 until it was our turn. We bought 4 cakes at a cost of £14 and made our own tea on Berriedale beach sitting at a bench. The cakes were really disappointing and not very fresh, the Banoffee pie was a bought pastry base with a layer of caramel, banana flavouring and then filled with sugary cream, not a piece of banana in sight, the Victoria Sponge was dry, over sugared and again not very fresh, the Custard Cream was just underwhelming and the Mars and Rice Krispie slice was again dry and not at all freshly made.Shocking experience and dreadful value for money, will not return here on future trips out from Inverness, rubbish!

Been here a few times and still blown away by the quality of the food and the friendly, efficient service. Treated more like family than customers. The fresh crab sandwich was well filled, moist and came with a great side salad. Favourite though is the ploughman’s lunch. Great selection of cheeses, mixture of biscuits and sourdough and nice pickles. Keep up the great work! Can’t until my next visit

I had the hot smoked salmon chiabatta. Which was like a baguette but bigger and not as long which was toasted beautifully and the salmon was delicious. There was plenty to eat to the point we had to take cake home to eat later which was amazing. My husband had a burger which looked homemade and he said it was really good. Aside from the food, the service is so friendly and impeccable, nothing is too much hassle and the place itself is so cosy.I have also been to a birthday party there, twenty of us and the spread was the best I have ever seen and again the service was amazing, totally recommend for small parties but would be best to book. Definitely call in every time we pass.

We hadn't booked when we stopped in for lunch one wet Monday in November, so found all the tables already taken, but we were shown through the back to a table with high stools against the gable wall with views out over the gardens. We ordered the specials (a vegetable soup and a crab sandwich), plus a couple of hot drinks. Despite being pretty well full we hardly had time to take in our surroundings or look at the items on sale, before our order was set at out table. Absolutely no complaints about the food either...really tasty, decent portions, and hot (well, the soup was anyway, not the crab sandwich). We noticed an amazing selection of home made cakes and sweets too, at the counter where we settled the bill, but we had no room.A really cosy place, great atmosphere, and we'll definately be back.

My partner ordered a baguette with smoked salmon. When it arrived, there was no bread on top of the sandwich. The baguette was the end of the bread and was no more than 3 inches long. I'm not exaggerating! My partner paid £9 for this. Thoughly over priced! My sandwich was supposed to consist of sour dough. That's what was described in the menu. Instead, I was given 2 bog standard slices of processed bread. No explanation given by staff. I paid £6.90 for my sandwich, which was of poor quality and way overpriced. Both my partner and I felt like we had been ripped off!Not worth a visit and shall not be returning!

Visited this excellent cafe with 2 kids, aged 8 and 10. Breakfast menu is extensive and there was lots to choose from for everyone. We all loved what we ordered. Super service. Definitely worth a visit. Cakes looked great too and it was very reasonably priced.

Went here today and had the best dressed crab sandwiches. Homemade soup was good too. Warm and cosy interior with lots of 'nick nacks' all around some even up for sale. The Scottish soap in the toilet with moisturiser too is a treat!! Will make this place a regular if possible, especially if their selling their crab sandwiches.

River Bothy is located off the main A9 road and is easily missed if you're not careful. Plenty of level parking which is loose gravel but navigable with a wheelchair. There is a small step into the building and an accessible toilet which is good despite having no hand rails. Food is excellent with a wide range of home made products. Cakes and sticky buns are a real highlight. Plenty of interesting souvenirs for sale too.

I used to stay at the Bothy when it was a bed and breakfast some 50 years ago it was a beautiful place back then and now it has been transformed into a beautiful Bistro. The food and hospitality was first class, the décor has not hidden any of the charm of the property. Highly recommended for a stop and fill up with excellent food.

On our holiday in Glenelg we popped into this cafe, which is popular with both locals and visitors. We only had coffee, but the food on offer looked very tasty. The owner was very friendly and helpful. There is ample parking nearby. Overall a nice place for a snack. Highly recommend.

This place is a hidden gem! We were driving by and found it by chance. The crispy chicken burger was really tasty. My kids loved the nachos and loaded fries. The food quality and taste were amazing, and the prices were very affordable. If you’re in the area, it's a must-try, and the view from the place is breathtaking.

Lucky to find that dinner was available on one of the nights. The meal was excellent. Extremely well cooked, presented and served. Don't miss the opportunity to eat there if you can. Elaine is a great cook/chef.
