We have dined at Timberyard before and since the Michelin star accolade. Our experience on Saturday was very disappointing and felt very different to previous visits. What’s happened?? On no imagination is this a Michelin star restaurant: Red wine was freezing cold. The waiter ran it under to hot hap when we mentioned it was freezing cold. Classy? We asked what the wine grape was..the waiter pointed to the name of the wine estate on the bottle label…oops!! The meal was mostly bread. Bead before the meal. Bread with the starter. Not much else to follow. Portions were very small. The place felt cold. No atmosphere. The service was terrible. Waiters clearing our plates before we had finished. Felt very rushed and very intrusive. Waiters were walking up and down looking to clear plates. We were gifted a tea bag each on or way out as a special gift. Insult to injury! £230 for lunch for 2. Won’t be returning.

Called in at 11:30hrs on 16/12/24. Extremely busy, met by friendly and helpful staff Amy & Callum. Prompt service, excellent food ( French Pop Tart & Goat’s Cheese Toastie), very tasty & good portion sizes. A great little find & an ambience to match. Would confidently recommend, no surprise that it so popular.

Been here a few time and really can’t fault it. Although went tonight and had the Beef Short Rib, the taste was really good but the short rib was about 70% fat, now that’s no fault of the chef as such more the supplier… when the waiter asked how it was I explained to him and he said he would pass that onto the chef… we then heard nothing back, so that was the only downside. A gesture of goodwill would have been nice… Now that said it won’t stop me from returning. I must admit the staff are all fantastic and very polite.

Great selections of beers on the board and nicely placed for Tollcross, bruntsfield and marchmont. It's the manse converted, stone walls and a bit clashy for geezers with bad ears but loads of geezers like me were there enjoying a drink and the bar staff are unfailingly knowledgeable about the product. Definitely worth a visit.

If you are looking for an old school drinking pub with character, you couldn't pick better! Doesn't serve food to save confusion.
