The best restaurants serving British food in Edinburgh and Lothian

I loved this place as Cactus Coffee. Now as Snax Bake House it's not the same - breakfast rolls are as cheap and nasty snax next door. Bring back the individuality that Cactus and the spudnik roll etc had please

We wondered around many other places and decided for this places because of the initial kindness of the waitress when we where passing by and had a question. Went back for lunch and had a great lentil soup, salmon with salad and green juice. We decided to go back the next day, as we wanted something different from the regular pizza, hamburgers and such offered around. It did not disappoint, great place, very small and wonderful views of the castle

Top notch service from Joseph. Every dish came out perfect in temperature and combination of flavors and textures. The attention to detail of the entire establishment was impressive. I had the Greek version of the Pinot noir and a scotch that was recommended. Pictured are the scallop and the lamb courses.

It is 90s prices for 90s vibes. Students love I for a reason as prices are student friendly. Quite nice to watch sports but gets busy (for a good reason).

A very pleasant place with fresh cuisine and a dedicated staff. It was our first evening in Edinburgh and we are glad that we spent it at the Ox !

Feeling cheated here and a bit hurt as a regular. Overdone dry and tasteless chicken katso burger with loaded fries with haggis and peppercorn sauce which were just mush! I have a feeling the chef was off that day? It is one thing getting a steak slightly fatty or slightly over/under, but the reason I feel cheated is that is was just SO poor and obviously wrong!

Great beer selection and nice and quiet in the daytime.

Great food and great service. Staff are friendly and attentive! Murphy’s and Guinness on tap and poured perfectly. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice gastropub. Couple, friends or family the ambience is very welcoming. The trillionaires tart is a must have!

This is a calm inn in a quiet location, about 15 minutes by bus from the main city area. You can relax in a spacious room with high ceilings and doors that gives you a sense of openness. The staff were also friendly. I'm glad I chose this accommodation!

We went to the terrace and they treated us very well, we asked Caty and she recommended us very well, very smiling, we will surely return

My mom and I loved this place! We went there 3 times during our 5-day stay in the city. It serves typical Scottish dishes, like the best Fish and Chips I've ever had and an unmissable Steak and Ale Pie! The staff are super friendly and made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere is also great. If you're looking for a place to have a memorable meal in Edinburgh, this is the place! Go without fear and thank me later!

I was gifted a voucher so went to book a table. Doesn’t say on website or on voicemail that it’s closed. You have to then email to find out. Please just tell people you’re closed rather than making out you’re fully booked on your website, it’s just a faff. Shame it’s closed looks like it was a lovely restaurant.
