+ Good location, plenty of parking available, dog friendly - Portrays itself as fine dining on the website, however the food is more like pub grub. Fish chowder was more like a vegetable soup with minimal fish in it. Despite staff being polite, they would congregate at the bar and watch whilst we eat our meal, at times being overly-attentive and felt like they wanted to rush us out of the door. Overpriced for the food and experience. service - 6 food - 6 venue - 5

Popped in for a bacon roll and a coffee as my usual spot wasn't open. The coffee was really delicious- just a simple Americano and it was strong and not bitter. The bacon roll was a bit 'meh' - the soft white roll was chewy and stale , tasted like yesterday's. The staff were a bit rude and made faces about the customer in front of me, behind his back, after having what appeared to be a perfectly nice conversation with him. It was infantile and cheeky and spoke volumes about their customer service and what they really feel about customers. Summary - great coffee, stale roll, obnoxious staff. I normally go to the fisheries museum, where the service is polite, the coffee is good and it's better value.

We met our daughters here for lunch for the first time. Didn’t realise it was here. It’s very nice and reminiscent of an old pub? A snooker place is here too. The staff were very pleasant and we were served promptly. The food we ordered was panini and salad and chicken burger. The food was nice. Could have done with a little more salad on the plate though. Coleslaw is very creamy if you like that sort of thing. We were under £20 a head and the was with 2 wines so not too bad. Will have to go back later at night to see what the menu is like but worth a visit

This is a lovely, friendly cafe in the community; it had been a while since I'd eaten there so was really hoping the food would delight - unfortunately not I'm afraid, the coffee was great but we ordered the goats cheese tart and it was really rather unpleasant. Very chewy and bouncy, very bland with the occasional (very) overpowering pop of strong goats cheese. Salad was under whelming too, hard under ripe tomatoes and sad looking bits of lettuce. I'll just stick to coffee in future!

First time our family has eaten here and we were all impressed. The parking is free if you are dining or staying within the hotel, let reception know and you can check your car registration in. Food and service The service from Charlie was excellent and the food from start to finish was extremely tasty.

I am coeliac and when I declared this I was so well catered for, instantly the waitress went through to the chef and let them know to put the gluten free fryer on, I was made aware of no cross contamination without having to ask, my cutlery was further cleaned for extra measures, I have never felt so comfortable coming into somewhere as usually I have a lot of anxiety around the situation

Have gone here for over twenty years. Always been amazing. Unfortunately this experience wasn’t great. Quality of food not as good. Staff in the past always great. Now some are very good but not all. Also owner never in this establishment which always makes a difference Wouldn’t rush back. Not cheap but you don’t mind when it’s quality But not the case now

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.

We checked the face book site before setting off which clearly stated the cafe was open. Hiked over 4 hours and when we got there it was closed. Very annoyed. It would be helpful if they could keep their on line pages up to date and make it clear when it is closed. There were several other people there who were let down as well. The car park was full and there were a lot of hikers too so losing a lot of business and letting a lot of people down.

- Outside seating and tables could do with a bit of a tlc/cleaning (but it did add to it's outdoor 'shabby chic' vibe) Service could be improved especially at busier times. + Plenty of parking Well maintained grounds and buildings - next to the river. Food was excellent! - we had the battered king prawns, salmon and lamb rump (which was a tad overcooked) Very reasonably priced for what you get. Overall this was one of the highlights of our visit to Callander, I would recommend pre-booking especially for dinner. We will be back if we are in the area.
