What a meal! It was unforgettable. The food was divine, the view glorious and the service was brilliant. This is one of the best meals I've ever had. Simple, yet exotic and flavoursome. The soup even had flowers from the garden in it!

We heard very good things about the hotel food, so my daughter treated us to dinner, we all ate different food, so we can give an honest opinion . The soup of the day didnt disappoint, very flavoursome,i went for the dumplings , they had a fantastic sauce, but my only criticism was that they seemed a little dry, it was maybe meant to be this way. It was so pleasing to see a kids menu, as we had a fussy 8 year old, he was delighted with sausage and mash, the fresh table bread was warm and home made. My main was the duck, the jus served with it was delightful, the duck was perfectly cooked,my wife went for the Hoggit, which i thought was pig, but we learned it was lamb, so she didnt think she would like it, but she actually loved it. Lastly, i opted for the treacle cake , I haven’t tasted one better! Buttery, sweet the biscuit base was to die for, not a massive portion, which is a good thing. My wife had the ice ream that tasted lovely. Then , as we enjoyed our food, we watched the sun set from the restaurant, to see the water glimmer was really memorable. This restaurant is well worth a visit, the price was very good too.

Fine dining, the reviews are right. Elegant meals, tastefully done with portions on the smaller side. Good choices on the menu. I'll be honest and say it's not my usual sort of dining but very much enjoyed. We had main and dessert and savoured every mouthful! Booking essential.

We arrived hungry after an early start and found this small hotel after walking up from the ferry. The menu for lunch was simple, soup and sandwiches with a special on offer as well. We chose the special, pulled hoget with a harissa dressing, cullen skink, lentil soup and mull cheese and home made chutney sandwich. Everything was delicious, the vegetables for the soup came from the hotel's organic garden. The staff were friendly, the price was good, we left very happy and full!

We stayed at the Argyll for 4 nights and accordingly ate dinner and breakfast there. This was the best hotel food I have encountered. And in fact the hotel is described as a restaurant with rooms. Delicious venison bourgignon or hake are typical mains. Tempura vegetables or pork belly or soup as starters. Beautifully presented and you know that all herbs, edible flowers and vegetables are from their own kitchen garden.

Quel endroit magnifique !

After a dire eating experience at the nearby St Columba's Hotel, we gave this a try and were not disappointed. Lunch was basically a soup-and-sandwich affair but none the worse for that, We enjoyed our smoked salmon and salad sandwiches, sitting in the small sunroom at the front of the hotel, off the main dining room. In good weather there is also a large seating area across the road, with fine views over to Mull. The staff were friendly and helpful on both the occasions we visited, even though we had not booked. Lunchtime dining on Iona is limited in range but the simple menu here is recommended.

Servizio molto cortese.

I decided to try a simple lunch at the Argyll Hotel but didn't want the inevitable sandwich or lamb burger that both hotels on the island seem to offer. So I had the seafood smokehouse platter with a glass of elderflower prosecco and was very happy with the choice. The platter was light but tasty (tho the bread more than made up for the lightness of the fish morsels) with a nice variety of flavours: different fish and seafood, smoked, served with pickles and a little salad. I certainly didn't feel overfull afterwards, but as I knew I was coming back later for afternoon tea, I wasn't worried by leaving not entirely full. The service was also friendly and quite prompt, the waiter taking time to talk to us a little, showing interest, rather than just serving and going off. Of course, the view is also lovely.

Congratulations to the waiter and waitress who took and delivered my orders. They made my evening. On the other hand I thought for the price the portions were very small, Espically the vegetables. And to be quite honest I would be embarrassed to serve three tiny slices of cheese for just under £10.0 you served me. This really is ripping off your customers. You should be ashamed.

We checked in advance whether there would be dishes available that my wife (who has to be gluten free and dairy free) could eat. We booked a table for dinner and on our arrival there was already dairy free spread on the table and my wife was served home made gluten free bread. We did not stay at the hotel as it was fully booked in September. So we stayed on Mull and day tripped to Iona. Everybody should visit Iona at least once in a lifetime. We arrived on the ferry after being told that there might not be a return trip as the sea was quite rough. It was! But Argyll restaurant is a wee oasis. We were fortunate to get a seat in the conservatory at the front of the hotel and just drank in the view ... and the elderflower Prosecco. We are regular visitors to both the island and the restaurant and have always enjoyed delicious and imaginative meals. However our meal this weekend was very disappointing. I had an average scallop starter followed by a vegetarian special that was described as a chickpea fritter. What arrived looked truly unappetizing - a vast splodge of falafel that was dense, incredibly salty and dry. I was unable to eat more than a few bites, and my sister who had the same was equally unimpressed. It was served with a bitter and unappealing sauce, some soggy tomatoes and some very tough braised fennel. Nothing on this plate worked or tasted good. We told the waiter that we had found the meal inedible and he took the plates away mostly untouched but we were charged full price for both with no apology. Pudding was some dry sponge with a dollop of cream. Two of our party did enjoy their meals, but others were disappointed with the wonton starter that was neither hot or cold and some very salty duck.

We were so looking forwards to having a nice lunch after a wonderful trip. The lunch menu wasn’t published outside and when we sat down it was presented. It wasn’t at all child friendly and if I had seen it outside I would have moved on. When I asked if they would do my daughter a plain sandwich we was offered only a cheese sandwich. When the sandwich came it was a large sandwich with a massive slab of mature cheese in, surely they could have thought about it a bit more. The bread was dry and I would say not fresh. We had the platter which was a lot better except the bread again. Hope to return one day for the dinner menu as that looks a lot better but not recommended for lunch or for kids as they clearly don’t have many kid friendly choices and would be nice to see that especially during half terms and the summer hols. At £34 for 1 adult and 2 kids it was disappointing.

I ordered soup and sandwich and was advised by waiter that the sandwiches are huge. So I ordered a cup (rather than a bowl) of soup and half a sandwich. Was delish, but still couldn't finish the half sandwich (really big). It's a nice casual eatery with glassed-in porch which includes heaters for cold days. Very nice!

Probably the best vegetarian meal we had on our trip. The vegetarian sandwich with a bean pate and broccoli and cheese was very good. Fantastic setting. Sit outside if the weather permits.

Surviving as a vegetarian in Scotland is difficult. You either get severely ripped off being served inedible meals, and yet paying the same price as the meat eaters, or you exist on a diet of veggieburgers and chips, or even worse the Scottish favourite of macaroni cheese and chips. Imagine my delight when I was served some of the best vegetarian food I have ever eaten in a restaurant anywhere. The care and thought that went into the food was heart-warming, and for once I didn't feel like an afterthought or worse, inconvenience, to be fleeced and patronised. Thanks again to the chef and the owners who strive for excellence and quality.

Had a bit of lunch at the Argyll Hotel and can honest say the sandwiches were absolutely fantastic. The bread was heavenly so light and tasty. Cheddar cheese with locally produced chutney; totally supreme. Would be here every week if I didn't live 400 miles away!

This was the best food we ate in all of Scotland. I had one of the daily specials - fish caught fresh that day. Service was not great - we had a hard time paying the bill. But the food was well worth the slight struggle.

Spent the afternoon on Iona as part of a ferry and coach tour for the day, including a trip to Staffa and Mull as well. Like other isolated areas in Scotland, they have a very captive audience and every excuse to let quality slide but they choose not to - so kudos to them. Food was solid and clearly local. Price on par with similar places.

The food was limited due to the number of people there for a music festival. Fun to sit in the bar ad listen to all who came to play

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
