We were in Callander for haircuts and had a bit of time to kill so we tried to go into Puddingstone Place for a coffee. 3.30pm when they are advertised to be open to 4pm. "Sorry, the kitchen is closed". All we wanted was a couple of coffees! Fortunately, the Waverley supplied us with two excellent coffees. Plus a nice bowl of chips...but that was an unexpected extra.

We had friends staying and thought we would pop out for breakfast. Excellent food and service, lovely coffee, nice comfortable restaurant. Will definitely go back .

Absolutely gorgeous food. A really friendly cafe, with a good range of lunch options, the food exceeded expectations for this unpretentious little cafe at the far end of the high street. The kids absolutely loved the mac and cheese, and they use local butchers for their meat. We would absolutely come again, tasty, good value!

Visited after a long rainy walk. Staff were lovely and friendly. A very welcoming atmosphere with a fire as soon as you walk in. Came in for a cup of tea and ended up staying for a breakfast roll which came very quick. Would recommend :)

I never ever bother with reviews but I feel the need to with this gem of an eatery. My daughter and I have visited a couple of times in the past, having moved over this way in the last 2 years. We’ve also been disappointed when we’ve left it too late and had to find an alternative, which, for the record, there is not! The staff are superb, the food is superb and as for value for money… what can I say except, superb! Anyone looking for delicious proper home cooked food need go no further. Being from a Donegal family myself, I love the turf fire burning as you enter and all the photos and homely effects that adorn the walls. We found it by sheer luck when we wandered to the far end of Callander and boy am I glad we did. We had previously settled in the other restaurants and hotels, thinking that was all there was on offer. Although decent in their offerings and worthy of a return, none of them can compete with Puddingstone Place. We arrived just before 3:30 a couple of Saturdays back and rather than say we close at 4, we were made to feel most welcome, as if they had all the time in the world. Our food, me steak pie and Mac and cheese for my daughter, could have been the work of any 5 star+ restaurant. I never clear a plate but this was perfection with boiled potatoes, carrots and broccoli and I couldn’t bear to leave a morsel. Same with my daughters, clean plate. We will be returning again this Saturday for the Christmas lights and arriving early to ensure a table at the finest restaurant in Callander.

A spontaneous drive through to Callander found us wandering the Main Street looking for some lunch. We wandered into this lovely little business by chance and thankfully there was a table available. It’s clearly a popular spot with the locals. The menu contained some classic dishes and we both fancied the steak pie. We were not disappointed, a really tasty meal arrived in no time at all, served by the lovely staff who were making everyone feel at home. Hopefully we’ll be back to try some other dishes! Thank you.

My wife and I dropped in to this warm and. Cozy cafe on our way to Edinburgh. It was my best meal in Scotland! Got the beef pie and wish we could have found this spot two weeks earlier! It was OMG good. Tasty beef and the crustiest flaky topping I’ve ever had. Also, the prices are incredibly reasonable. If you can, visit this place!

Found this lovely place on a damp Sunday day out. Food was lovely service excellent. Lots of locals using it, always think that’s a good sign.

We were caravanning just outside Callander for the Weekend and decided to take a walk in to the centre of the town. After spending some time shopping we headed back to the caravan when the rain came on. We were just outside Puddingstone Place when this happened, and as we had no wet weather clothing decided to go in for a coffee and let the rain pass. The atmosphere was so welcoming and friendly we decided to stay for lunch. The food was excellent, in fact the only thing better was the service, we had only been in 15 minutes and it felt like a local cafe we had been using for years. The very friendly lady who served us was happy to recommend what to try, and also pointed out there was street party on that night and invited us to attend. The prices were very competitive, I thought it was brilliantly priced for Callander, which can be expensive when dining out.all in all, to coin a phrasal, we felt we got "Champagne service for lemonade prices" we are planning to go back to Callander mainly because of our experience in Puddingstone. Arrived in Callander on Fri and had our dinner in Puddingston place the same night , we had starters and main course with couple of drinks everything was lovely and as usual service was great , couple of stuffed diners here ..

Spending two nights in Callander. Like someone else said about a wait, we were warned of a ten minute wait to be served but given a table right away. It was around 1pm on a Friday. Sure enough it was not not long before we were placing our order and it arrived promptly. Two bowls of nachos with salsa, sour cream and chilli beef with cheese melting. Nicely layered and generous, especially with the beef chilli. Yummy. We followed up with two nice hot coffees, a slice of lemon cake which actually tasted of lemon (well done - most places cannot seem to get that right) and a slice of warmed chocolate cake with pouring cream. Delish. The Waitress said all the cakes are made there on the premises. (We also had a glass each of fresh cold tap water because Scottish water is lovely and free - we're Scots too so like a bargain!) All very tasty and very decent value for money. The Waitress was friendly, busy and working hard. The chef must be a magician as it looked like he was solo in the kitchen and sending out nicely presented meals. Well worth a visit. We'd go again.

Amazing restaurant in Callander. We stopped by on our Highlands road trip and were amazed by the food and service received here. Fair prices and very generous portions. We really recommend the Halloumi fries and the steak pie, but everything was fantastic. Absolutely recommend.

Visited here recently with my wife and both had the homemade chilli which was delicious. It was very quiet so the atmosphere wasn't great but the food was very tasty and the waitress was excellent. We will definitely be back and would definitely recommend .

Used a a lunch stop before hitting Oban for a week. Good food, fair prices and not the usual "clinical" diner. Liked it so much we used as a breakfast stop on way home.

The lady who greeted us was very kind and welcoming. She gave us wonderful suggestions about popular lunch items. The beef lasagna was freshly made and very tasty. The fish and chips were the best we’ve had bar far. The fish melted in our mouths and the breading wasn’t to heavy or greasy. I 100% recommend stopping here for a quick and delicious bite to eat

Prior to our visit to Callander I'd done some research and was looking forward to visiting with my husband and very friendly labradoodle. I'd seen reviews stating how welcome guests and their dogs had been made previously. The blackboard outside even said that dogs were welcome. On arrival I put my head inside and asked if they were dog friendly, as I always like to confirm first only to be get a loud and abrupt response of No from both members of staff and a look of utter disgust. I was genuinely shocked at how rudely I'd been spoken to and spoilt the rest of my day. A real shame after the very warm welcome we had received everywhere else in Callander

We've been here a few times and never been disappointed, just a very good local eating place. We take a run from Glasgow to Callander and this is the Puddingstone Place to go.

Wonderful - value for money Scottish breakfast with haggis, black pudding, sausage and bacon from the local butcher! Can't be beaten on Callander High Street as far as I can tell!

We live in Callander, which attracts tourists most of the year. There are five or six local places which cater for locals and tourists. Unfortunately the majority of places do not appear to aim for return business, and will provide a moderate to poor dining...

I had their Stovies, and it was very warm and delicious, perfect for the cold weather that Callander was having that weekend. The staff were friendly and polite! The restaurant was super cozy, and I'm glad I stopped by.

We were a large party celebrating a birthday. There were plenty of choices for vegetarians and people with specific dietary needs. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and the food was delicious.

Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. And the haggis was, in my opinion, superb. Unfortunately, we in America cannot get real haggis. I had it once before in Edinburgh several years ago; it was "oh-kay". On my second trip to Scotland, in July, I decided to try it again. Puddingstone's haggis is wonderful; made locally we were told. So tasty, I wish we could have stayed in Calendar for a few more meals. My daughter also enjoyed her meal of stovies.

I had read elsewhere this place was dog friendly but seems not! Popped in and asked if dog was allowed no and was quickly told no. Staff member was polite enough but could have maybe offered take-away instead? Busy lunchtime elsewhere but the place looked empty so they maybe could have been more accommodating and let me look at menu for something to take away.

Not a great choice on a Monday as so many restaurants are closed. Chose here as they had pretty good reviews. Friendly service and nice food. Nothing exceptional and the decor is very middle of the road. Had a good meal and attentive service but not exceptional. Callander should do much better.

A warm welcome. Friendly staff. Great homemade food. We came for dinner. My wife had the Stovie while I had the steak pie. It was delicious. There was a wonderful selection of gins, including locally produced gin.

Having failed to reserve a table earlier in the day, we struggled to find a place to eat. we were finally directed to a wee place , heading west, away from the centre of Callander. A small shop front but with tables to the rear. we received a warm welcome, directed to our table and the service was excellent. Menu was basic, standard stuff but the quality was superb.

Three of us hand a really nice meal here, with lots of friendly chat. Prices are also good. Highly recommended. Just make sure you ask about the puddingstone rock in the window.

Came here for some lunch today. Cozy little place and the two girls on were lovely and friendly and a credit to the place. Food was nice, just felt bacon was a little too greasy and the sausages really thick ( although that’s personal choice). My kids had pasta and loved it. I would definitely return !

Visited with family and friend, although the restaurant was totally full we couldn't fault the service or quality and quantity of the food, the home made double burgers with bacon were superb. The gluten free meal my daughter had was deliciou and the GF menu is very comprehensive.

I had a great experience at Puddingstone place on Thursday night. The mushroom & garlic starter was amazingly tasteful and creamy. I licked my fingers ! And the mini haggis were fresh and tasty. Simply delicious. The next day I had a look at other restaurants’ menus but a lot of fried stuff. I decided to go back to Puddingstone Place and there .... big disappointment. I had ordered the mushrooms again and some Scottish pâté. I did not finish them. The pâté tasted like any supermarket tin. And the mushrooms felt like not cooked enough and as if the cream had been cut with water ... I was so surprised of the difference that I asked if the cook that night was different : matter of fact, that second night the boss was cooking .... so before sitting in this place, ask who is cooking that night. // On the service side, many smiles and helpful. The decor is simple but nice.

Stopped in for coffee and a scone on our way through Callander, great coffee and service, highly recommended.

Stopped here for lunch during a tour. The food was excellent. The burger was flavored perfectly. With bacon and cheddar it was delicious. The lentil soup was also great served with sourdough bread, which was the perfect touch. Awesome spot for lunch. BLT pretty good as well. Easily walkable from the car park. About 4 minutes.

Don't be deceived by size. Had their haggis with neeps and tatties. Delicious. Service prompt and friendly. Worth coming to!

We have visited this delightful little restaurant 5 times this year and on each occasion the welcome has been so warm and genuine and the food is simply delicious and freshly cooked. The waiting staff are lovely people for whom nothing is too much bother and so many other establishments could learn from their example.

Really delicious, home style cooking. The menu has a lot of variety, whilst including some Scottish favourites (the stovie was amazing!) The staff were really lovely and were happy to have a chat. We liked it so much that we returned the next night! Highly recommend :)

My wife and I recently spent the night in Callander. Really nice little town with most of the restaurants and retailers are located on Main Street. We walked all of Main Street perusing menus. We opted for Puddingstone Place because of the variety of their menu.

The food was great, homy, and cheap ! Seriously astonished of how simple yet really tasty the meal was. And the cake was really amazing as well !
