The best restaurants serving British food in York Yorkshire and The Humber

This place is fantastic. Full of character as you'd expect from a building built in the 1700's. The staff are very polite and helpful. Although there is no parking on site, the car park is a 5min walk away with a discounted price.

Mi marido y yo éramos un poco dudosos acerca de venir aquí debido a las malas críticas universales en el último año, pero estaba cerca de nuestro hotel y estábamos cansados. Además, parecía un hermoso edificio, y así es. No había nada malo con el personal. Era extraño que se hubieran quedado sin Bacardi, ya que hubiera pensado que era un ingrediente básico en un bar. Nos dieron menús con una nota escrita a mano que nos dijo lo que no estaba disponible. Mi marido estaba muy contento con la cerveza. La comida disponible (no en la nota! ) era perfectamente aceptable comida de pub, y las porciones eran fastuosas. Muy buena relación calidad-precio. Sospecho que los propietarios son nuevos en el negocio, ya que las cosas que están mal emiten un aire amateur. Por ejemplo, la habitación en la que estábamos tenía una gran chimenea por la que morir, pero no había fuego encendido. Cosas básicas como esas mejorarían la experiencia sin fin. Fabuloso edificio, buena relación calidad-precio, personal que da la impresión de que no están muy seguros de lo que está pasando, pero no es desagradable.

Really disappointing experience. We have visited York a few times over the past year and always have commented that we should visit this place. The window display looks so inviting. Unfortunately, that's where the positive ends. Upon entering, no queue (should have raised alarm) not warm greetings by the staff. We ordered 2 sandwiches and a York Roast. It took an absolute age for the server to chop our meat. I have no idea what they were chopping, perhaps removing the meat. Another colleague was tidying the area, which was good to see as it needed it, but really all there were bothered about was what music they could play and sing to. Another colleague joined them in panic they were about to get an inspection, when one of them chanted "were going to get shut down" Why did we not leave then I don't know (I suppose they'd taken our money by then!) Got our order and went upstairs. Got a table in a very filthy area, a good clean is needed. The sandwiches had very little pork (see earlier commented of how long they chopped the meat......what for?) It was tasteless not worth the price charged. The Roast Pud, again no flavour and not much meat. Over £30 paid, and for what. Unfortunately we will no return, and never look at your window displays with eager temptation. This place needs a radical over haul with its customer service and customer experience.

Mi mamá y yo visitamos Kennedys ayer y no vamos a regresar. Vinimos a tomar un bocado ligero y unas copas. Pedimos la ensalada feta e higo que estaba deliciosa y los nachos sin jalapeños. Desafortunadamente, el primer lote de nachos estaban completamente pegados en el papel a prueba de grasa y en realidad no pudimos comer ninguno de ellos y tuvimos que enviarlos de vuelta - no hay problemas, es lo que es. Cuando regresan con un conjunto fresco de nachos, estaban cubiertos de jalapeños - a los que soy alérgico. No dijo ningún problema y se fue. Él regresó, pero teníamos una sospecha inmediata de que simplemente los había recogido y teníamos toda la razón! Cuando empecé a levantar los nachos encontré 5 jalapeños, prueba de que no estaban frescos y que los había quitado. Afortunadamente no tuve una reacción al tocarlos, ¡pero gracias a Dios no comí ninguno por accidente! Nos quejamos y se quitaron de la factura y obtuvimos un pequeño descuento, pero eso para mí no tiene sentido. Esto podría haber sido un problema extremadamente grave y su total negligencia fue impactante. Incluso le había dicho al tipo cuando los enviamos de vuelta por segunda vez que no puedo comerlos. Simplemente no podría confiar en este lugar de nuevo si su práctica es sentarse y recoger trozos de comidas de la gente en lugar de hacer lo correcto y hacerlo fresco para evitar la contaminación. Muy, muy mala práctica y un tema que no creo que se tomaran muy en serio. Qué pena.

This was the nearest pub to our girl's trip accommodation. Whilst it's nothing fancy in terms of decor and furnishings, it's busy , friendly and reasonably priced . Quiz night on Tuesday was good fun . Great little holiday local 😀

I've ate here a few times, and always have the Korean chicken burger. My first one was lovely, but I know it says crispy, but each time I've come in it gets harder! Could break your teeth. And my son had the burger with belly pork, again "crispy".. not really crispy, just overcooked.

Ooh, nice little gem of a place, staff very nice. Food is good quality and service very fast, although it wasn't busy so that may be why.

A lovely old building from the outside. Popped in for a coffee and ended up having the coffee and donut deal and a coffee with scrambled egg on toast. Coffee was really good. Donut tasted homemade, very tasty. Scrambled eggs were filling. Staff very friendly. Good value for money

Suficiente comida decente, pero precios un poco altos para un café de transporte glorificado. 50 por una salchicha. Me han dicho que los precios están subiendo pronto también.

We visited on April 24th having read the good reviews on here. Arrived just after 6 and the pub was already quite busy ( always a good sign) but we got a table to eat ok. We then had an excellent pub experience of some good drinks and great food. The 3 young ladies who were serving both drinks and food were all very friendly,polite and efficient. The food was good British Pub food. I had Sausage and Mash and my partner had Gammon and chips. The pub itself was old fashioned but in the best sense, beams and fireplaces, loved it. Would definitely recommend but might be worth booking.

Paid a little visit with my mum today for NYE food. The chap who welcomed us was super friendly & made us real totally at ease. We had fish n chips & steak & ale pie with their fab big chips. Both were piping hot & absolutely fantastic! Will 100% be returning to try the Sunday roast. Thank you for a lovely welcome with home cooked delicious food.

Went in for drinks on a weekend after food elsewhere. Great atmosphere and showing all sporting events. Dani was a great server and convinced us to come back again.

Fuimos a tomar una copa social y charlar con amigos. Algunos hombres en el bar se comportaron de manera inapropiada con uno de nuestros amigos mayores, lo que era incómodo. Tomé un trago y dejé como niveles de ruido demasiado altos para escucharse. Sospecha que este bar se parecía a la escena del bar de Star Wars más tarde esa noche - no se apresurará a volver allí para una bebida por la noche en el corto plazo

We were over visiting the university for my son. We stayed next door and went in for food on two nights. The service was fantastic. Warren our waiter remembered us. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was quick and good value for money. Little personal touches made the difference. The chef was Max and as a vegetarian the food was superb. My son ate meat and it was also fantastic. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

We came here for bottomless brunch and it was amazing, Sophie was serving us and she was amazing, very attentive and lovely, will definitely come back again! Thank you so much :).
