Second visit after we so enjoyed the first 18 months ago. Food was good, but confused for us if punching for a Michelin star. Menu very similar, if not the same for some courses. Large beetroot bread roll, no beetroot flavour but great bread… size large to start filling you up. Next 2 amuse bouche , starters v good. Roast beef main course, hearty and pleasant, but seems at odds as hearty as I say rather than michelin, plenty of local pubs do as good or better. Two desserts attempting to be back on michelin spectrum but too similar…. Just nothing stand out. This time we used a voucher, so rather resent having to pay a service charge then on its gift value, but we didn’t quibble. Drinks expensive, so for the total price of the meal and drinks we weren’t convinced this was value for money, would prefer to spend elsewhere, so may not return in the near future. Still a lovely setting.

Food was very tasty although we'd all have preferred a larger sized portions for the price of the meals! What was disappointing was the price of a non-alcohol beer which cost £6.00! With the 10% service charge that was £6.60 for a bottle of beer! I can buy this drink in the supermarket for under £1.00 so the mark-up in my opinion is unacceptable.

Our first visit… we were warmly greeted and despite the pub being very busy, everyone made us feel very welcome. It is evident from the start that this a well run pub and is shows! We opted for trying the ‘steak night’ and were not disappointed. The steak was served with chips, onion rings, peppercorn sauce and a garnish of pea shoots. We ordered a side salad as an extra to share. The meal was well presented and the steak was cooked as ordered and to perfection. We managed to have a brief chat with both Gillian and Steve (the owners) and they made us feel like they had known us for years. I understand they are celebrating 20 years at ‘The Victoria’ Congratulations! They genuinely care that everything is right for each and every customer. It is refreshing to experience the passion they have for the business. The pub is traditional with some quirkiness and has a relaxed, homely feel at the same time. The bar area was busy and had a great atmosphere. It had a mix of locals/regulars and pre dinner drinkers all enjoying a Friday night tipple or two! The menu is extensive and has lots of starters and main courses to choose from. It offers a perfect balance of traditional pub classics along with other dishes like curry etc., so something for everyone…. The pub has a great range of beers and Italian. American and Belgian lagers. I tried the Italian Primitivo a smooth, fruity balanced red wine and perfect with steak. We have booked Sunday Lunch next week, as we enjoyed the food and warm hospitality so much. Looking forward to returning… A special thank you to Steve, Gillian, Janice, Holly and anyone else who looked after us. Thank you for going the extra mile - genuinely appreciated. I highly recommend that you try ‘The Victoria’ it is well worth a visit for food, drink or perhaps both!

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.

Nice appearance but it ends there We were asked for our orders before we had ordered drinks we had to ask for a wine menu. A bottle was then plonked on the table unopened. The starter arrived very quickly after which was bland and warm at best. As soon as we had finished we were Told to go to the cavery and the chef would carve our meat. The display did not look appealing the Beef was pre sliced and was swimming in a sauce I made the mistake of having Gammon it was dry and grey around the edges. All of the vegetables were dry and over cooked. My wife had Lasagne which was again bland and was swimming in oil and fat. We did complain and the Duty Manager came and was very apologetic and said they would not charge us. We did not complain for free food. For £19.95 you can not expect fine dinning but do expect it to be edible. As we were still hungry we both had stick toffee pudding. This was hot in the middle but cold on the outside the sauce was cold and very watery the chef clearly did not leave it in the microwave for long enough. All around the hotel they are pushing an app to showcase the facilities and menus. Whilst talking to the manager we asked why we could not have the al acarte menu she knew nothing about it.

Was having the time of my life at rudding. A Room and Dine indulgent Xmas prezzy to each other. Amazing room, spa and experience at first. Drinks reassuringly expensive but fine in the context. Then made the mistake of eating in the clockhouse on Saturday evening. The main dining room stank of fish so moved to other room. We were Still upbeat at that point and smiling and enjoying ourslelves...then...Caesar salad to start made a mcdonalds salad look gormet. Then...the £105 tomahawk for two arrived carved up like dog food and cold. I demonstrated this to the waiter by putting my hand on the 'sizzling hot stone'. Dissapointed but we gave them constructive and reasonable feedback and left. The picture of "tenderstem" cold broccoli sums it up. Such a shame. So close yet so far. Was worth the money up until it wasn't. I'll be marching to the front desk shortly for further feedback giving and reparations. I'll go back to using our usual treat spa place in Durham. Ribroom at ramside is a proper restaurant and know their onions. Might go over to Devonshire Arms for Sunday dinner to salvage.

Eight of us visited The Kestrel for lunch. We were greeted and shown to our table immediately. The room was lovely and warm with a nice atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and efficient, she brought crayons and a puzzle page, for my grandson without being asked. Some of us chose the Christmas menu which was available without ordering in advance. We all had two or three courses and everything was nicely cooked and presented. Hopefully we can visit again soon.

Mi esposo tomó un desayuno completo y dijo que no hacía mucho calor. Tuve un huevo y tocino bap y fue encantador. La taza de té estaba muy buena.
