Second visit after we so enjoyed the first 18 months ago. Food was good, but confused for us if punching for a Michelin star. Menu very similar, if not the same for some courses. Large beetroot bread roll, no beetroot flavour but great bread… size large to start filling you up. Next 2 amuse bouche , starters v good. Roast beef main course, hearty and pleasant, but seems at odds as hearty as I say rather than michelin, plenty of local pubs do as good or better. Two desserts attempting to be back on michelin spectrum but too similar…. Just nothing stand out. This time we used a voucher, so rather resent having to pay a service charge then on its gift value, but we didn’t quibble. Drinks expensive, so for the total price of the meal and drinks we weren’t convinced this was value for money, would prefer to spend elsewhere, so may not return in the near future. Still a lovely setting.

The elegant, opulent dining room is the ideal setting for the excellent food that is to follow. One does wonder what this restaurant has to do to get a Michelin Star, it is well worth one. We ate there two nights, had the set menu the first night and then they provided a different menu for the second night. The service is precise but unobtrusive. The wine list comprehensive but not over the top. A great place to eat. We are looking forward to return stay there

It's a curate's egg. The Dinners in the old dining room are first class. The library and lounge are splendid rooms, and the main staircase is superb. Not-so-good are the rather cramped accommodations to the rear, and the large room used for teas and breakfasts. Albeit light and airy this big room is uncarpeted and a bit noisy, and also serves as the throughway to the back rooms. I have not seen any of the bedrooms in the main part of the house so I can't comment. The staff are generally very good. The booking system is annoying. We received an endless stream of reminders and requests from the automated system. They should use a different one.

We have eaten here several times since Josh Barnes took over, and had great meals. So we were a little disappointed to find that someone else had just recently taken over as Head Chef. We needn't have worried - Daniel Ife is absolutely excellent. Each course was superb. From the canapes to the pudding - every course was so well thought out and balanced and absolutely delicious. We had the extra optional cheese course - one between the two of us - and two of our party had the wine flight. Again all wines were excellent - we will be back.

Goldsborough Hall is set in gorgeous gardens and includes an impressive vegetable garden, most of which is used in the acclaimed restaurant. Lunch is £50 plus service and only served on Saturday and Sunday. Therte is no choice unless you arrange this beforehand. The restaurant was rather dark and misterious although it was a lovely day outside. It only had 10 covers on three tables and seemed rather lifeless with hushed conversations. No music though which we did appreciate. The food is for food lovers and was immacually prepared. Like all fine dining, it is carefully explained on the menu and by the server at your table. The portions are tiny. My main course of duck came on a large plate. The duck was no bigger than the size of my index finger; the accompanying potato was 2cm square. It took the server longer to explain what was there than it did for me to eat it! This was a disappointment as I expected it to be the highlight of the meal. The starters were unusual and the two puddings were among the best I have had of late. Both were lovely chocolate concoctions. Coffee and petit fours in the lounge were additioanl. So, go for the experience but maybe pass by Betty's in Harrogate on your return.

What a amazing find, I have visited Harrogate many times as I have family here, and have tried many hotels, from the start to the finish brilliant. We arrived to find we had been upgraded to a suite what a treat, the room was large and the four poster bed was so big and comfy. My husband and I really enjoyed the jacuzzi bath just like having our very own hot tub. We had our meal in the restaurant and wow, from start to finish the service was faultless. From our canapés to our tasting menu that really show cased the care the chefs feel for there food. To use the amazing produce from there kitchen garden and local food is to be commended. There was truly nothing we could fault and highly recommend.

We went for New Year’s Day lunch for £45 per personand we’re disappointed with the menu - 3 starters, 3 main meals and 3 starters to choose from. The meals were of average quality for a 5* hotel and then expected to pay 12% service charge on top, which I refused to pay. If the meals had been exceptional I would have paid 12% service charge but they were absolutely not. We used to go to Goldsborough Hall on a regular basis before Covid and it was good - but I have to say the food quality and choice has plummeted.

Had the most perfect lunch in beautiful surroundings at The Dining Room, Goldsborough Hall . Everything about our new year's day lunch felt special, and it was a great way to start the year. All produce is locally and sustainability sourced, and all the vegetables are grown in their kitchen garden. The Festive menu was £45 for three courses, which was very good value for the quality, presentation, setting and experience. Staff and service was excellent.

I was extremely disappointed with our visit today. The afternoon tea was £35 per head. We had to ask to move because the room was so dark we couldn’t read the menu. The scones were stale, we had to constantly ask for more tea (no new tea bag given so was very weak), the cakes were frankly unpleasant tasting. The veggie option was frightful. Very small amounts of sandwiches. Lovely location, but this is a total rip off. Incredibly disappointing. I would have taken it further but we were there to treat a relative.

We have eaten here in the restaurant several times and the food has been excellent. However the Afternoon tea did not meet their usual high standards. Although the sandwiches were good, the sausage rolls were dry and lacked flavour. The scones were not fresh and also dry. If we had not been with friends we would have complained but the whole experience was underwhelming and the kitchen needs to up its game to match the quality of the food in the dining room and justify the cost

We went to a wedding ‘evening do’. The building itself is impressive but for the wedding there was a makeshift tiny bar in the doorway with one member of staff serving, this in itself caused the service to be very slow but to make it worse the barman had no idea on the prices of drinks. Each drink had to be looked up on the menu to establish the price and then unbelievably he had to go onto his mobile phone to find the calculator to add up the bill! They had one lager on draught and for some reason it tasted really sweet which wasn’t great. We brought this to the attention to the bar staff and he totally agreed with us stating that he believed it was a bad batch. Why would such a large establishment not be able to change the barrel to alleviate the issue? As a consequence we spent the entire night drinking small bottles of lager at £5.50 a go! Not impressed at all.

We were eight for afternoon tea which was not up to scratch at all. Taken to a separate room in the building which was fine ... even though the glaring limited edition print of Sir Alex Douglas Hume on the wall provided some merriment ... but proved a let-down when came the tea in about four different pots, all under temperature. The girls who served were having a bit of a struggle with the service side of things and the cakes and sausage rolls were some tasty, some awful. The scones were actually good. It's a pity ... for the building and grounds are actually wonderful to view and magnificently kept. Fortunately, we had a special pre-agreed price for our party ... but even that could not placate our disappointment. Doubt very much whether any of the company there that day would wish to return.

Visited for an overnight with dinner after they reopened on August 1st. The grounds and hall are stupendous and the kitchen garden to die for. The meal however left a lot to be desired. Service was friendly but rather haphazard - the right hand not appearing to know what the left hand was doing. The food was average to poor apart from the fish course. A complete lack of any vegetables apart from puréed blobs on the plates - which were mainly black or dark coloured so the food looked very dull as well. The dessert was so strongly flavoured with chicory / coffee it was inedible. So sad as we have previously had outstanding lunches there. Very disappointing taster menu.

After visiting twice before and treated as you would in such establishment we were extremely saddened by our latest visit which was for my fathers birthday. This building has a special place in my fathers heart as he use to board here in his younger days. We arrived to no one on reception. A chap finally arrived told us to wait in the library. As he entered the kitchen I heard a very derogatory comment about us. I nearly followed him to confront him but decided against it. A very sharp, rude, abrupt and argumentative chap appeared and asked if he could help. I advised we had a lunch booking but he kept saying lunch had finished, we were late and they had tried ringing us. No idea who they had rung but it wasn’t us. He went to speak to the chef, returning to advise he had agreed to provide lunch for us. Nice of him seeing as we had travelled well over an hour. We were shown to the dining room where I showed the abrupt and rude man an email on my phone confirming the booking, which proved the time we arrived for i.e. we weren’t late. It would appear since our last visit there has been a change in chef and waiting staff. Very small portions. Poor choice on lunch menu - All struggled to choose something. No vegetables with main courses just the meat. Nothing explained on ordering and I certainly do not expect to pay extra for such food accompaniments. General lack of attention throughout the visit. Left very disappointed and hungry. Not acceptable.

A very helpful young man made us very welcome and brought our drinks. We weren’t rushed and after a while we went into the conservatory for tea, which consisted of a selection of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and desserts. We couldn’t eat it all and were offered a box to take home our leftovers. Something I noticed other customer were doing . We had taken advantage of the voucher offer on Travelzoo but I would have gladly paid full price for this fab experience. Well done Goldsborough Hall. Very disappointed with the Gluten Free/Dairy Free option served for the afternoon tea. Only one type of bread for all the sandwiches, very dry hard scones with no cream alternative just jam, shop bought Bakewell tart. Party organizer had informed of dietary requirements at booking and was contacted on more than one occasion prior to our visit to confirm requirements. I suggest staff take a trip to Mama Doreens in Harrogate to see how a GF/DF afternoon tea should be presented.

I have been to Goldsborough many times, and have a loyalty card, as a local it has been a great place for special occasions. However, on my last visit they have had a change of chef with a new concept!! a concept way too far in our opinion. The canapes were inedible, no choice of breads, the starter was so small I couldn't identify the mackeral. Main course I had the duck, it wasn't sliced and difficult to cut, no vegetables with the meal, I do not expect to pay extra for those. Given that they advertise growing all their own the choice was deplorable, and certainly nothing that would go with rissotto which my brother had. £5 for a bowl of new potatoes is shocking. Previously we had a choice of warm breads offered, but not now. We decided against a sweet as the size didn't warrant the extra price. The response at reception was unhelpful and not concerned that customers were unhappy. Overall very disappointing and we left hungry. My go to place is no more, and my loyalty card has been torn up. Let me know if the chef leaves and I will come back, otherwise sorry I will not be returning.

I wasn't going to add a poor review, but as I've had no response to my email I can only assume that the management are not concerned when their customers are unhappy. I'd booked afternoon tea for my family as a celebration for a special birthday and was expecting great things following the review given in Yorkshire Life. Sadly, we experienced slow service and a general lack of attention, a poor choice of sandwiches for those of us who preferred a plain selection (even though I'd discussed this in advance). There was an issue with the scones which tasted bitter and salty. We needed to return these and were only told that 'the chef agrees with you', we were given some more fruit scones but had to ask for more jam and cream. Also needed to ask for more tea. No-one asked if we were ok. We left very disappointed and felt uncared for on the day and afterwards. Certainly not worth the amount I'd spent and not a good experience. Very unhappy that we have not had the courtesy of a response either.

I got a travel zoo lunch deal of 2 courses for 4 people. Unfortunately we couldn't get 4 so it ended up my husband and I and my mum who was in a wheelchair. Arrived into first carpark which due to the gravel paths was fiend is to take a wheelchair over. We were very early arriving about 12.50 for a 1.30 booking. After finding out there was further parking at the front we were put in the drawing room to wait for lunch with the plan to take mum out the front to the other carpark. We were brought drinks and got menus to survey at about 1.15. Our choices were taken at 1.40 and as mum was having starter and pudding and as there were only 3 of us my husband and I thought we could use the absent persons option of 2 courses and have 3 courses each. At 2.10 I asked when we were likely to be taken into the dining room and was told they would have to check with the kitchen. Another 10 minutes later we were taken through but the waitress didn't know which table we were to sit at. Eventually we got water and bread otherwise my mum was going to know my arm off. Also the light in the disabled toilet was broken and I had to use my mobile phone torch. Husbands starter wasn't to his taste but I have to say the duck and mashed potatoes were amongst the nicest I have ever tasted. Pudding was good too. However the main issue was when my husband went to pay for the drinks we had been charged extra for starter and pudding as they weren't part of the deal and a service charge had been added to the total of drinks and voucher. Now the staff were lovely but it did feel slightly faulty towers like and disorganised. I think our wait was excessive so wasn't happy about tip being automatically added and the fact we were then charged for 2 courses which were paid for, just a fourth person wasn't there I felt was disingenuous. Lastly the grounds are lovely but it was by no means wheelchair friendly as there were no disabled parking areas and no effort to offer a ramp for stairs necessitating a long trail around gravel and paths. I rarely do a bad review but on this occasion whilst entertaining in its own way I felt left with a bad taste in my mouth and not from the food which was largely delicious.

Fabulous hall and certainly looks the part but when we booked for an afternoon tea we were shoved by ourselves in a converted office by the looks of it, which was cold, lacked ambience of a dining room and was next to the loos. The food was lovely but they didn't have a common form of tea and despite paying up front in advance when we left they charged additional money for a lemonade when one person didn't drink tea and they added additional gratuity fee on an already expensive treat. The courses were well presented and of a 5* quality and most enjoyable. Would suit a romantic evening and also a friends/family get together. The game, fish and local meats were outstanding all with great service, do visit soon.

We loved our visit here last year so brought two friends along to see the magnificent array of snowdrops along the woodland walk. There are teeny tiny ones about an inch high through 50+ varieties to some the size of daffodils. Spectacular.

Tucked away in a lovely village. A delightful Jacobean country house - well preserved longe and library areas. The staff are professional and enimently competant. The drinks menu is plentiful and a decent selection of gins.

An excellent, quiet and most comfortable hotel to satisfy the get away from it all syndrome. Friendly and welcoming staff ensured we had a super stay by providing excellent service and making us feel important to them. Super food, extensive grounds for a quiet walk and outside patio for taking in the view of the grounds.

We attended the evening reception at a wedding celebration, and the venue is just beautiful. However it does lack intimacy as the extensive rooms lead to fragmenting of the wedding party. The staff were polite on the whole but quite aloof. The evening buffet was the usual modern fare of bacon and sausage sandwiches, but were pretty small and sparse. We went back to our B&B in Knaresborough searching out a takeaway !!! As regards the bar service it was very expensive, which is not minded if to a good standard, but the draught beers were not available, the bottled beers were served flat and the prices increased every time you went to the bar for the same drinks. The venue looks amazing, but other than that wasn't overly impressed.

A delightful 2 night stay here in a hotel that feels and looks like a private house. The rooms are all individual in design and all have good views of the parkland and the gardens. The food was local sourced and creatively cooked. Light lunches are of good quality and the space for lunch quite opulent. The grounds are beautiful and there are lots of interesting twists and turns as you explore.Service very personal. You really do feel like an honoured guest.

We arrived to find an array of acres of snowdrops in a backdrop of well tended parkland. The Woodland Walk with a catalogued array of differing snowdrops was delightful. The snowdrops ranged from tiny miniatures to some that were almost the size of small daffodils and we worked up a good appetite for a pre-booked afternoon cream tea.The tea was served in the Orangery. Everything was just so! Crisp white linen, excellent attentive service and superb views over open countryside. Lots of choice on tea and/or coffee and an excellent mix of sandwiches, accompanied by warm, fresh scones with plentiful strawberry jam and cream. There was also a good range of fancy cakes to finish with. The staff proved knowledgeable and helpful. The toilets were clean and fresh. The architecture, the public rooms and the furniture were all of great interest and there were leaflets available explaining the long history of both the property and the succession of owners. With the incredible mix of an interesting building, magnificent views, well tended gardens, excellent food and good service we declare it exceptional value.

Went to a wedding reception at the hall. Lovely venue beautiful hall and grounds. On arriving I was surprised to see how small the bar was with few bar staff and expected to have to queue for drinks. How wrong I was there was never a queue, not a result of efficient staff but a result of the prices, be warned you will run out of money before you get drunk.

Set in lovely grounds , lovely venue.Unfortunately the lovely venue was over shadowed by the prices. The buffet meal before the wedding day was massively over priced at £30 per head. It was a struggle to feed all the guest due to the tiny portion sizes . The only vegetarian had to make do with a bowl of vegetables. The Bar prices are extortionate 4 drinks for £27 , that is outrageous. We caught a member of staff , Maxine, taking the bottles from the wedding meals table , then Re stocking the fridges in the bar to resell to the guests. These were already paid for by the bride and groom.Like I said lovely venue, but let down massively by being vastly over priced. I think greed is an issue here . Luckily we had a lovely day due to the fact the guests were great.

I met up with a group of friends for afternoon tea and it was a wonderful time. The hotel is stunning, the staff couldn't be more helpful and the food was excellent. I'm gluten free and it's usually a disappointment but not here. I had the same choices as everyone else - sandwiches, scones and the most delicious cakes and all of it gluten free. Combined with an extensive selection of teas and coffees. The table was set in the conservatory but there was a large party rounding off a late lunch and we asked if there was somewhere quieter. Without any fuss they moved us into the library, rearranged tables and lit the fire. It was perfect - I couldn't fault anything and will be back soon.

What a wonderful find! Having stayed in Thirsk the night before we decided to stay on another night somewhere else. We searched trip advisor and this little gem popped up! Beautiful hall steeped in history. Staff were attentive, friendly and very welcoming. The public rooms were amazing particularly the library area to relax by the fire! We ate in the dining room on the evening and sampled the three course menu - food was delicious and great attention to detail. Room very comfy, crisp bedding, modern bathroom with luxury toiletries fluffy towels and bathrobes. Couldn't fault our stay - finished off with a very tasty full English to send us on our way!

We were at Goldsborough Hall for Sunday lunch. The nice surroundings were unfortunately spoilt by the poor quality food on offer. For starter my scallops were watery & overcooked, fortunately wife's Whitebait was OK. For main course I had the duck served on a bed of beans. The duck was tasteless, seemed like it had been warmed up from the previous day, or dare I say packet food. The beans (probably tinned) were overcooked, very mushy and dry, also appeared to have been warmed up. My wife had the BBQ Rib of Beef, which was very, very dry & sweet, and was unable to eat. We were surprised non of the staff questioned why my wife's beef was untouched.

Goldsborough Hall is a fine building, stately & imposing & perched amidst delightful manicured garden. Inside is a little less impressive as furniture is largely repro but the drawing rooms are pleasant, gentile, peaceful spaces & the Orangery elegant & sun soaked. It is a wonderful setting for weddings & for afternoon tea which was the purpose of our visit. We were very warmly welcomed & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves though the tea itself was unremarkable & at £25 per head (£35 with champagne) no bargain. Pastries were a little uninspiring but sandwiches fresh & there was ample to go round. Service was friendly & it was a very nice experience overall.

I stay at The Queens Head Inn Kettlesing on a regular basis and it is a great place to stay at. The rooms are excellent. There is ample car parking spaces at the pub. The food is excellent. Good bar with plenty of choice. Locals who go into the pub are very friendly and helpful. Owners Louise and Glen and their daughter Meghan are excellent hosts. There is also wifi available throughout the pub and rooms. I would strongly recommend a visit to the Queens Head Inn Kettlesing. It really is a fantastic village pub with excellent rooms and excellent food available. Great place to stay at and eat at!
