Johnny Baghdad's Cafe On The Square. in Harrogate

Pleased that we found this little gem, great coffee and a panini to die for. Yorkshire ham with Wensleydale cheese with a chutney was our choice, served with a Mediterranean salad, it was beautiful. Very fair prices, too. We will return.

What a gem - don’t be deterred by outside appearances - inside warm, friendly welcoming staff . Basic but more than adequate

Wonderful brunch spot with easy parking. We came here for brunch before doing a local walk. Both my Malsham full english breakfast and my partners hot breakfast sandwich were delicious. The hot drinks are huge and cold drinks were served crisp and cool. Would definitely visit again.

We had breakfast here two days on our break. They are lovely, so welcoming, good fast service and the food was delicious. I had the smoothies both days and they are good. Love the fact that they've quirky stuff on sale too like artisan bags and scarves. Would love to make this my local but good to look forward to coming back

Good range of dishes from small to large. Panini was very good! Salad served with it. Crisps come with sandwiches too!

We stopped at this cafe’ after a family walk on the river path. We had some really tasty burgers from the daily specials followed by a scrumptious cake. We will surely be back if again in the area.

This is a great little cafe. I stopped for a breakfast sandwich and it was very tasty and brought out quickly. It was nice to sit outside and watch the world go by. The staff were lovely too, as the lady was bringing my coffee a little leaf from the tree above dropped into it, she quickly apologised (not her fault at all) and set off back to get me a replacement before I stopped her - I didn’t mind fishing said leaf out and drinking that one. It was lovely and I will go back.

Fabulous cafe in Masham with a varied Middle Eastern twist to the menu. Excellent choice including the specials board. My husband had the lamb koftas which were excellent and I had smoked mackerel pate and toast ... too full to try a cake!

Popped in twice on our recent stay in Masham. One time just hot drinks and the second time, for hot drinks and sandwiches. Everything was fine, the ham and cheese paninis are very good.

Enjoyed a lovely pot of tea and bacon and sausage roll sitting outside the cafe with the dog. Nothing to dislike at all. Staff friendly and service quick even though people queuing to sit inside. Thank you we will be back.

My fiance and I visited for breakfast on a not too busy morning. We sat down and the menu had 4 breakfast options....full English, a veggie full English, jam on toast and something else on toast, so that was quite disappointing. The decor gives a hippy vibe which goes inline with the name of the café. I went for a panini with roasted red peppers, mozzarella and pesto sauce, my fiance went for a sausage batch. Granted the panini was quite large but it was slim and served with a side salad drowning in a vinegarette dressing. I had a glass of water that was served in a glass that was covered in scratches so guessing it's seen better days, the water was lukewarm in temperature and when I asked for ice the waitress brought back ice scraps that had dirt on most. I alerted another waitress to this but she didn't offer to change the ice or get me a fresh glass of water. Definitely won't be going back if we visit Masham again.

We visited this cafe four times in a week for lunch as the food and service were so good. Interesting changing menu complemented by great regular dishes. Service from all the staff we encountered was refreshingly superb. It was always deservedly busy but we were served quickly every time. Good value for money for fresh food.

Had a tasty hot breakfast sat outside in the lovely square in Masham. Great service and friendly staff. Damp weather did not spoil the food and the umbrellas over the tables kept us dry. Good quality ingredients used. We will return.

We stopped for a quick, rather delicious coffee on a drizzly Friday morning. The cafe has some seating inside but we enjoyed sitting outside sheltered by the large parasols, watching the world go by.

My wife and I called in for lunch with a friend . Although the staff were very friendly and efficient, our food was below par. The paninis were bland, and our friend said that his scone was “just about all right.” The worst, however, was my cheese sandwich : the bread was too thick and more suitable for toasting, the cheese was rubbery and tasteless, and there was some salad in there as well as on the side of the plate. As I said to the waitress, the best part of the offering was the solitary olive. I left half of my sandwich, something I never do. I have never written any review complaining about an establishment, but feel that our experience yesterday was most disappointing and unacceptable, and certainly not worth the price we were charged. If the staff would like to learn how to improve their cheese sandwiches, I suggest they pay a visit to Barker’s cafe in their big store in Northallerton. I am sorry to be sounding so negative, and I do not want to be unpleasant or rude, but one must take the criticism with the plaudits.

The decor in this cosy little cafe is so Bohemian and a pleasure to sit in soaking up the atmosphere !!!The staff were so attentive and the menu covered everything for lunch and a great specials board. We had soup with bread and it really was the tastiest and most clearly homemade and GREAT VALUE . We then had a fabulous cup of steaming hot coffee and the LEMON DRIZZLE and CARROT CAKE .We arrived freezing and Hungry, we left warm and full up all for £20.Thank you so so much all staff

I was recommended to stop here as I was rushing past.All I wanted was a tasty take away sandwich. Ham salad , not difficult eh?£4.65 for two bits of sliced bread with a slice of processed tasteless ham and a limp lettuce leaf.I don’t class a lettuce leaf as a salad. I really hope I just got a bad day because it was tasteless, silly expensive and was obviously made with no care at all. What were they thinking?

Walked in whilst going round Masham Square and have to say they serve excellent coffee. Flat White and Latte both very good.

It might be a small cafe but it has a big heart & a big and interesting menu! Covid restrictions meant queuing to order at front entrance table, so need to be dressed accordingly! All 3 of us chose bacon rolls with 2 teas & a coffee . Both food and drinks were very well received on a cold but dry day and the bill came to £12.30. Service was very efficient and the queues were handled quickly.Highly recommended! Will definitely visit when we can eat indoors.

Visited here for lunch on a particularly rainy day. We chose to sit inside and it was lovely and cosy whilst also feeling safe within the current pandemic. The interior really brightened everything up and the staff were so friendly and attentive. I would DEFINITELY recommend the chicken shawarma with flatbread. I’ve been trying to look up a recipe since because it was so delicious and warming - especially on a wet Autumn day.

We secured the last inside table in this small cafe and chose a bacon roll and piece of carrot cake to go with our tea and coffee. Both food and drinks were very well received and the bill came to 11.50. Service was very efficient and it was noted appreciably that care was taken to disinfect the tables and seats between diners.

We called in twice to this lovely characterful little cafe while staying i n Masham for a few nights. Beautiful soup and sandwich for lunch the first time, then a return visit next day for afternoon tea and cake, both times food was delicious, staff, friendly, helpful and efficient well worth a visit

Popped by for a coffee and cake on a busy Saturday Market day. It was raining really hard but we sat outside under the big parasol so kept out of the worst weather. Had the dog so better outside. Really fast service really nice staff and excellent coffee and cakes. So good we called round in the morning for bacon butties. Again excellent service.

We stopped here for a coffee and panini......we had a lovely outside table (two labs meant outside was a better place to be!!). The coffees came promptly and were really tasty. The panini’s were very full and delicious. Last but not least, the waiting staff were attentive and polite. A fantastic lunchtime.

After finishing a walk sat at a outside table, prompt friendly service, they cleaned the table and chairs before we sat down, I chose a tuna, mayonnaise, sweetcorn and mozzarella cheese panini, and my husband had Ham, wensleydale cheese and hot apple chutney, both served with salad, delicious, and a pot of tea for two, would return here next time in the area.

If we want lunch or light refreshments in Masham we always come to Johnny Baghdad's. As it's often busy others obviously have the same view of the place as us. We like the funky decor and it creates a relaxed atmosphere. The food is pretty good too, particularly the chicken shawarma with its hot sauce and delicious filling and accompaniments. A nice range of cakes are usually on offer but we find these can be a bit hit and miss. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. Certainly a place to recommend.

This was our second visit whilst on holiday in the Dale's. The service was lovely as well as the ambiance and the food.I had chicken shawarma on flatbread and it was delicious. My other half had fritatta with peppers again delicious.Great coffee and covid track and trace taken care off. Will go back on our next holiday for sure. Thank you guys!

As a Coeliac, it’s very difficult finding a place to eat at times. Especially as I don’t eat red meat either.Popped into Masham for a look around, on our holiday.Had been there before many years back. Lady from a shop in the square, recommended this cafe.When we got there, only had to wait a few minuets. They were very busy and we had to wait for them to disinfect the table and chairs.Had to eat outside under the shade of a lovely tree, such a hardship haha. I asked about Gluten Free options and settled in a toastie instead of a Panini.It had tomato, pesto and buffalo mozzarella, served with a bit of salad. Had to make sure they did not give me any raw onion on the salad, as allergic. The toastie was the best I have ever had.Hubby had a sausage, bacon and egg hot roll, he’s not Coeliac. He had a pot of a Yorkshire tea. He thoroughly enjoyed his lunch. He won’t eat out anywhere, unless he knows I can have something as well.We both had the Eton Mess cake, which was yummy. Best cake I have had since coming off gluten.At one point, we thought I had been glutened. My husband looked over and saw the cake menu by the door and noticed the other cakes were marked as GF, but not the one I had half eaten. I kind of panicked thinking there had been an awful mistake, as the cake seemed too good to me GF. Our fears were extinguished when they said that i could have it and they needed to correct the mistake on the board. Never been so happy.Am writing this review, as so impressed with both the food and service. They went out of their way. Will be returning maybe later in the week before we go home and when we next come up.Very reasonably priced as well.Would highly recommend this lovely little cafe..

This cafe Is a little gem in a beautiful setting-in the corner of Masham square. There is a range a food, but the Moroccan style food in particular is superb (I recommend the chicken shawarma and flatbreads). Staff are friendly and helpful. Covid19 measures are in place, particularly indoors. My only thought is that perhaps the staff could wear visors?

The Masham Sheep Fair (in 2019 around 5 October) wonderfully transports you to an older, gentle, rural Britain. And where better for a bite to eat than this place, on the town square. We enjoyed their soup of the day, ham and cheese sandwich and they do good espresso. The bill for two came to £14.15.
