Bay Horse in Harrogate

We went for lunch. The food was good, as was the service. It was a week day and not very busy so the atmosphere wasn't buzzing.

Lovely Sunday dinner and delicious desserts. Just eaten there now and we’re happy and full. Great service, friendly and relaxed.

Whether you are just dropping in for a quiet drink or dining, the Bay Horse is an excellent choice. The menu includes pub favourites - fish & chips, burgers, bangers & mash - freshly cooked. They are also very willing to accommodate any requests to the food. Sundays get really busy with the roast dinners. Occasionally, there are special nights such as Burns Night, Valentines etc. In my view, this pub serves the best food in the area. On the bar, there are usually two cask beers with Kirkstall’s “Three Swords” being the regular. There is also the usual selection of lagers, Guinness and cider. There is a popular quiz on every second Sunday. Well behaved dogs and kids are welcome too.

We visited the Bay Horse last night and had a fantastic meal. Excellent food, excellent service and a generally all-round good evening.

El personal era amable, el ambiente era acogedor. . nos encantó. . tanto que llamamos para el almuerzo el 1. 1 . 25 . El pub estaba lleno a la hora del almuerzo en el día de Año Nuevo y pensamos que nos rechazarían ... no lo hicieron y tuvimos otra comida fantástica. No veo la hora de volver. 10 / 10 .

Visitamos este pub / restaurante como parte de un grupo para una cena de celebración de Navidad. Se solicitó un depósito y pedimos por adelantado del menú de Navidad y había discutido los requisitos dietéticos directamente con el chef. Antes de servir, el personal comprobó que todos estuvieran presentes antes de distribuir los alimentos, incluidos los cuidados con las opciones dietéticas específicas. Las bebidas tenían que pedirse y obtenerse en el bar, lo que podría ser un poco inconveniente. La calidad de las comidas y el tamaño de la porción era bueno, aunque el pudín de Navidad era muy pegajoso y denso. El valor total fue razonable.

One of us had the chicken pie that unfortunately included a very large piece (as big as the surface of the pie) of crispy plastic. The man behind the bar was generally unwelcoming - but he was a bit better when we complained about the pie. The pub is advertised as dog friendly, which it isn't. Dogs are allowed but the pub is not friendly towards them. The fish and chips were a 5/10. We won't return.

My husband had a chicken pie that had a large piece of plastic in it. The chap behind the bar wasn't very welcoming both when we arrived or when he took our order. He was apologetic about the plastic though! We only booked because the pub said it was dog friendly - it's not. Dogs are allowed but that's all - it's not what I would call friendly.

Como resultado de la recomendación de boca en boca, mi esposa y yo hicimos una visita a este lugar para almorzar. Esto supuso un viaje de ida y vuelta de 80 minutos. Fuimos recibidos por un pub arquetípico del pueblo inglés situado en un entorno próspero. El interior es pintoresco, no demasiado grande pero cálido y acogedor. Parece más preparado para comer que beber, pero alguien local puede ser mejor para informar sobre ese aspecto. El menú en la primera visualización se parece a numerosos menús de pub que he visto a lo largo de los años. Fue solo cuando llegó la comida que era obvio que estaba lejos de ser comida de pub "ordinaria". Nos atendieron de manera eficiente y cortés frente a la casa. Empecé con pudín negro. Sí, sé que todos están pensando en las cosas que les sirven fritas dentro de una pulgada de su vida para el desayuno en cualquier número de hoteles. Piense en lo lejos que pueda, era casero, ligero, bien condimentado y maravillosamente sabroso. Esto ha establecido el estándar para el futuro. Vino bien presentado con una salsa de mostaza bien combinada. El principal fue pato con remolacha y patatas hassleback en una gran salsa fuerte, de nuevo perfectamente combinado, excepcional. Mi esposa había horneado feta con miel y nueces de nuevo un ganador. Su principal era besugo en una corteza sazonada, 'el mejor pescado que he tenido en mucho tiempo' era el veredicto. En resumen, un pub encantador con algunos platos imaginativos. Lo más destacado para nosotros fue la calidad de los ingredientes y la experiencia de la cocina. Inténtalo, no te decepcionará.

Lovely xmas lunch and great value

El almuerzo del domingo en este pub del pueblo local fue muy bueno. Una sensación íntima al lugar con una buena selección de ales (3 Espadas y Ovejas Negras por nombrar solo dos) y una limitada, pero bastante adecuada, selección de vinos a precios razonables. La carne asada y el fish & chips fueron pedidos suplantados por el queso coliflor y la col roja. Vegetales y asados gratis incluidos con la carne de res. La carne de res se servía rosa (sí, incluso a las 5 de la tarde) y era muy sabrosa / ‘real’ sabor a carne y tierna. F&C fueron descritos como ‘VG’ - el eglefino parecía dinamitado. Pud puds de manzana y baya crumble, pegajoso café y chocolate deluxe eran VG; lástima no - uno pidió la tarta del tratado! La próxima vez. Servicio atento. Con una botella de Rioja, 2 pintas y 4 softies & propina alrededor de £ 50 por cabeza. Volveremos. Muy recomendable.

Premier league chef , 2nd division service. I’ve never ever felt the need to write a review but feel the need this time . Ok, succinctly. Food - excellent , top notch . Sunday lunch was sublime . Service - When you have to stand up whilst still eating to go to the bar to ask for another drink then something is wrong. The bins in the urinals were so overflowing that there were dirty tissues all over the floor. There were large areas of dried urine all over the tiled floor - the toilets hadn’t been attended to in a long while. Three tables eating and one of which had finished yet it still took over thirty minutes for two desserts to arrive - excuse … ‘The kitchen is really busy’ . It isn’t though, is it ? Look around the decor and see weeks of dust and dirt and crumbs and god knows what down the back of the seats . This place serves excellent food and the chef is clearly talented but the management and staff are letting him down. Complete lack of hygiene standards , attention to details and basic customer service . Annoying … because the food is so nice .

Not gluten free or coeliac friendly. Thad a strong reaction after eating there. Vomiting, total diarrhoed and had to spend rest of the day in bed. I had made them aware of my needs, and rang afterwards. They said they would look into it and get back to me.....but nothing! Need reporting. Don't claim you do gluten free, if you don't.

We had Sunday lunch at the Bay Horse, spent £20 - 30 per person for two courses (starters & main) and I'd recommend it. The starter of homemade black pudding was excellent, I then had the roast beef served rare and my wife had the roast pork. Both were delicious. The only criticism is that I had to wait nearly half an hour for an espresso after the meal, but even with this I'd still drive back there from Sheffield for a meal.

We visit the pub regularly. Food is fabulous. Service is wonderful (Maggie). We’ve tried most things on the menu - all delicious. Sunday lunch is the best we’ve had - consistently excellent. Fish and Chips superb. Steak - can’t go wrong. The lasagne - wow!!

We had two dinners with over 10 people each time. The first went pretty well but we had problems on the second visit with the food service being delayed for a couple of the party. However, a really great place overall with great food and friendly service. I wish I lived closer!

Superb as before. Mid week treat that delivered. Both our starters and mains were just great. Defiantly will be going back.

(Spend about £60) Consistently good food, and well kept drink. Service can be outstanding depending on the member of staff otherwise average. Really it’s a hidden gem. I would personally though change the seating and the tables. I’m a little bit obsessed with such things. No hesitation at all recommending.

Had the Bay Horse burger. It was 10/10, so delicious and juicy and flavourful. Everyone minding their business. Had a corner to ourselves at one point.

First Christmas Dinner eaten at a pub in 15 years, so pleased that the Bay Horse was the pub we chose to go to. Exceptional food, really good service team and a good choice of beers, wines and spirits.

Found this pub as a stop off from Thirsk racecourse. The service and food was lovely. My only downside was that the website showed a more extensive choice. Would definitely go back, doggy friendly and would recommend booking in advance it soon filled up.

Absolutely lovely pub/restaurant My husband and I popped in on a casual drive out to the area We find new places as a bit of a hobby We shared large mussels and fries and fish and chips Everything was delicious fresh and hot Gorgeous plump juicy mussels and the fish and chips was a 10/10 In closing the two mains we had a sparkling water and a pint of premium lager Bill £40 plus we left a £5 cash tip Great value efficient and friendly We will be back

I was very surprised at how good this pub was as I gambled on and stopped here for a break on the way to Alnwick. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and was good and great value compared to similar pubs in the South East.

Fantastic food not the cheapest but worth it

Popped in on a quiet lunchtime and had a really excellent meal accompanied by a couple of pints of really well-kept beer. A very well stocked bar, a great choice of food, goos atmosphere and excellent staff. What's not to like?

we stayed at the castle inn spofforth we had a lovely meal there but thought it was very expensive at £80 for 2 people the following evening we came to The Bay Horse and had a even better meal at £ 45.great pint of black sheep as well

This truly local pub has every asset to commend, from the moment you enter, the community sprit, clam and gentle ambience surrounds you,. The staff are kind, established, unintrusive and highly professional . We have just had the most marvellous buffet after a funeral which was superb. The choice was exactly as requested, all of it freshly made to a wonderful standard, everybody enjoyed everything. We were allocated a good amount of space that enabled us to be feel comfortable and we could interact freely. In short this has made a grim day better. We are lucky to have this amenity on our doorstep and wish the best for it's continued success.

Went for Sunday lunch today. It was not the best experience which was a shame as was for Father’s Day. The tables were too close together we had to move ours ourselves to allow the people on next table to get into there seats. The starters were ok. The main meals were terrible although the person that had the lamb said that the meat was nice. The nut roast was £16, far too much for what it was, a very small nut roast on a huge bed of red cabbage which was over powering and 5 huge roast potatoes. There weren’t enough vegetables for the table either but yet more red cabbage. I left most of my main course. It would be better to offer vegan or vegetarian, as a vegetarian I would have much preferred the mash and pudding over what came with mine. The crumble was nice but the lemon pudding had disintegrated before it reached the table it had sunk from the edges and looked like a half portion. Very disappointing overall, we won’t be back which again is a shame as mid point for a family get together. Plus side we had a lovely walk after round the countryside.

Went for a Sunday lunch as a large group, the food was great and service good, it was a little quiet on the day we visited , only downside for me are wooden chairs with no cushioning . Not much parking availability is the other downside

A fantastic little pub. It took us ages to choose what we wanted to eat because the menu was so good we wanted to eat it all!! Some "traditional" pub grub choices but lots of other amazing options. We couldn't resist having 3 courses. Catered well for our table with one lactose intolerant and one peanut allergy sufferer. Friendly staff and atmosphere with excellent food - highly recommend.

We only live a short walk away but first time there, great tasty homemade fare, great service. Loved the place.

Early lunch booking, clearly clean as smelt very strongly of disinfectant throughout. Wasn't aware it was a dog pub - own fault, not marking down due for it. Food tasty, service friendly, but took 20 minutes to get the bill paid once it was busy. Expensive for what it was - true of many places. £63 for 2 adult, 2 children's lunches, 2 deserts, 3 soft drinks. Would have welcomed bigger portions eg some veg with it. Overall, if you're eating out with a dog I'd recommend The Bay Horse.

A quiet tea time when we visited, nice beer and really excellent fish and home made chips.

Visited on Sunday 7th Jan 2024 for Sunday lunch. Probably the best roast beef dinner I've had in a pub. Really good roasties and everything was tasty. We ordered pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese too but didn't need it as the standard meal was so filling. Great service too. We will be back again.

The food was amazing I had the homemade chicken Kiev with chips and my wife had the pie of the day (chicken,mushroom &bacon) with mash and gravy. Very tasty and reasonably priced! The staff were very welcoming and friendly and a really nice friendly atmosphere. They even had an open fire, dogs welcome. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

What happened to this place? I've been many times and the food never disappointed until now. I ordered a beef burger and frankly I think a complete novice must have cooked it. Burgers are not hard to cook. Chips were limp and soggy, the bun was clearly from a supermarket, the bacon was undercooked and there was a patty in there somewhere. Also the staff were hard work. I kept thinking "two soups". I hope the place can turn it around but I won't be going again for a long time.

Amazing pub lunch whilst staying close by. We were cheeky and even asked for some flour to make our pizzas that night and they kindly gave us a tub of flour! The food was so nice and service was second to none

This is customer service! Great pub in a stunning area and has a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff.we all had a certain request for how and exactly what we wanted from our food e.g one plain, one with no cheese and relish etc and there were no complaints about it, and chef did it perfectly! Will definately be back when in area again.would recommend this place

Absolutely excellent, had carrot and corriander soup, followed by lovely haddock and chips. We (18) of us went for a 100th birthday. Would definitely go there again.

She was lovely, didn’t get her name but she’s a brilliant worker, fantastic personality, a real character. Highly recommend the Bay Horse, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely country pub. Burger was epic so was the sausage & mash 🙂 very reasonable prices considering the quality. Good service too. They also seem to have various events on, coronation party etc. The only downside is the small rear car park. We had to park on the road out front. Definitely worth a visit 😃

Called up for a last minute table booking mid week and though it sounded like they were busy, they were very accommodating to find a way to squeeze us in. The service on arrival was even more friendly. Very tasty dinners and appreciated that there is dog friendly seating. We shared meals between ourselves as a family, but I was assured that kid sized portions of their mains could be provided.

Went on Sunday for lunch which was fantastic it’s a Brilliant Sunday lunch which you will receive, Yorkshire puddings excellent great selection of vegetables, and the beef ( which I had nice and pink ) we were a table of 6 with two little ones , the child’s roast chicken Sunday dinner was massive . Service very good and all staff were helpful throughout our duration, Very busy place which I’m not surprised due to the quality of food & service Definitely worth a visit but I’d say book ti make sure you get a table x

Met up with the family for a spot of lunch. We had been here many years ago; and it looked very much as we remembered. 2 x Korean Burgers ordered - Brilliant 1 x Burger - Very good 1 x Bangers and mash. Very nice, but small portion. Could have done with some mire veg. Friendly staff who were quite attentive.

What a little gem! Firstly the atmosphere was lovely, such a charming and welcoming place. The food isn't chepa but you get what you pay for! I don't really like pies but I tried my Mom's steak and ale and it we both agreed it was the best we'd ever tried. All home made on the property and you can tell. The meat was so tender and plentiful and the gravy so tasty. I had the special 28 day aged steak. It was cooked to perfection and tasted beautiful, cooked rare and melt in the mouth. My dessert was a miss as the brownie was supposed to be hot but was roasting on the edges and cold in the middle (microwaved?) and the home made custard (which was beautiful) was only luke warm. Other than that this was one of the nicest pub meals I've had. Would highly recommend this place and the 5* review is well deserved.

Family gathering Sunday Roasts okay

Yesterday was our first visit here, and we’ll be back. The staff were fantastic and the food superb!

Had fabulous fish and chips and apple crumble on friday evening. The batter was so light and crispy and the crumble was delicious. Definitely worth a visit. Thankyou for looking after my mum and dad too

So grateful to Bay Horse. They let me sit and participate in an online meeting with basically no notice. Wifi was rock solid. Nice environment. Friendly and helpful staff. And a great lunch with a good plant based main option. Hope to see you again!

The food was amazing, and the service was lovely! I had the lamb pie, and it was just so tasty! If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely be popping back!
