Food was very tasty although we'd all have preferred a larger sized portions for the price of the meals! What was disappointing was the price of a non-alcohol beer which cost £6.00! With the 10% service charge that was £6.60 for a bottle of beer! I can buy this drink in the supermarket for under £1.00 so the mark-up in my opinion is unacceptable.

We visited the clock tower restaurant and it was a beautiful setting. The waiting on staff were very attentive. The starter was excellent and the main course very good, however the banoffee pie was terrible, it wasn’t set and should not have been served. The waitress was very kind and removed from the bill. One of my friends had coke and it was flat, they replaced with another flat coke. An establishment this good should be doing these little things better.

I want to say a huge huge thank you to Charlie and the team at Clocktower today for our brilliant lunch. As allergy parents, visiting somewhere new for the first time fills you with anxiety. We are so grateful for the time and attention given to us to ensure our son had the best lunch despite his multiple allergies. Desserts are off the cards 99% of the time for him and we had settled on the idea of him just having a bowl of fruit, but he was presented with a whole host of off menu treats! Meringue, vegan cream, chocolate ganache, raspberry coulis, fresh raspberries and strawberries! His smile was just amazing to see and we really appreciate the extra touches you put into place for us. (Despite what the other diners we were with may have said, that was all that mattered to us and we wanted to make sure you all knew that!)

Been to the Clocktower Brasserie today for lunch - very disappointing!! My husband's burger was served 10 minutes before my salad - he said it was mediocre. My salad was no bigger than a starter and the melon tasted funny,I told the waiter it was disappointing but he couldn't have cared. I had to ask for napkins and water - will not be back!!

We booked an afternoon tea in the conservatory and had high expectations when we walked in to the beautiful setting. Unfortunately everything went downhill from there. We were seated at a table and provided with our Prosecco, tea was ordered. Had to ask twice for milk, asked for a tea strainer, waited until tea was stewed and had to get up and get strainer myself, no teaspoons, no sugar. Waiter came and presented our3 (dry) sandwiches - no napkins on the table. The wait between sandwiches and cakes was probably around 30 mins but felt longer as we stared at empty plates, empty glasses and empty teacups and were ignored by all the staff milling around. (Of which there were plenty!) When the cake stand arrived we asked for more tea, as did the ladies at a nearby table. Theirs arrived, ours never did. We didn’t get a clean plate for desserts and had to steal spoons from another table for the mousse cake and clotted cream. Just didn’t expect this level of shoddiness at a hotel with such a reputation. Certainly would not recommend

If we exclude the event this is a 5 star hotel with 5 star staff and facilities. The staff are fantastic as are the facilities. So why the 1 star? We went for the New Year event in the Clocktower which was advertised as their own ad hoc club for the night. Well any working mans club could have put on a better event. The package up the the "club" was great. We enjoyed the afternoon tea and the spa facilities. Dinner was excellent. After dinner we were wondering where this ad hoc club was and could not believe it was just the bar. Whoever had come up with the evening did not have a clue about a club. Now we were not expecting MoS, Pacha, Hi etc but the setup was not a club. The DJ was set up so that the dance area was the walkway from reception to the other function rooms. It was not a proper dance floor and those coming back from the other functions had to navigate around those few who were dancing. The DJ could have set up further back or at right angles on the raised area he was working from ,but that was too much like common sense. Then where did they get the DJ from? We were not expecting Martin Garrix or Camelphat but at least someone who knew how to beat match, harmonic mix and be able to transition. The type of DJing you get in a proper club. All he did was ask for requests (no good club DJ would do this) and did not even organise them properly. He was hopeless - this is an example of how bad he was. He played Insomnia by Faithless still a club classic released 1995 (it was the radio edit though not a club mix, he also played it end to end - more poor technique) then announced he would then be going old skool. The next track was that great club hit (not) Cotton Eyed Joe by Rednex which was released the year before! Overall I could have done a better job with my smart phone and spotify. Would we go back yes its a great hotel and spa but not for an event.

Myself and My Girlfriend visited The Clocktower Restaurant on Monday the 4th of November 2019.We had not been before but it had just been a Big Birthday for Her so i decided to treat Her.Luckily We have the Tastecard which gave us 50 per cent discount off all the food. Now Firstly i have to say that on the whole My Girlfriend enjoyed the meal and i thought it was ok.But Pricey and Slow service at times. We saw a couple of tables next to ours where one person in the party was celebrating a birthday as a waiter had brought each table a plate of chocolates with Happy Birthday written on in chocolate sauce,We mentioned to a waiter that it was My Girlfriends Birthday but we got nothing! In Fact You would think choosing a High end Restaurant/Hotel for a Milestone event Celebration that They would at least give you a free drink? The Food is Tasty but Pricey in My Opinion. We ate off the A La Carte menu as i think You have to when using Tastecard. And like many Dining Experiences the Bill Rises Dramatically with Drinks added. We had a three course meal each.My starter was The Liver Parfait with toast and onion chutney i had to order more toast(At no extra cost)to eat up the rest of the Parfate(Pate). My Girlfriend had a Crab starter which was small but served on a large empty plate. She said it Was Lovely though. For our mains She had the Sea Bass priced at £25.00 normal full price and i had the Clocktower Burger which was tasty priced at £18.50 normal full price i believe. For our Desserts which at full price are £9.50 each I had the 3 scoop ice cream trio and She had the Panna Cotta. At Tastecard half price of £4.75 these are fine.I had one pint of Bitter priced £4.90.My Girlfriend had a glass of wine priced £9.50 plus a bottle of different wine priced £29.50.Total Bill was £87.15 after discount of £43.25 for using Tastecard. So Normal full price would have been £130.40!! Phew!! You do get free water to drink so perhaps Come for a meal here and use Tastecard but just drink free water? There are lots of waiting staff but at times Service was Very Slow.

We had vouchers for lunch and were shown into the very tasteful conservatory with a mature olive tree in the centre. The meal was lovely and a mix up with our order was dealt with by offering to take the wine off the bill- a big saving as the wine was quite expensive. When the bill came, the wine was on it, also £4.50 or so for a bottle of water though we'd asked for tap water and over £4 per portion for veg/potatoes- a bit steep we thought. The wine was deducted and bill paid and we did feel we'd had a nice meal but would probably not become regular visitors due to the high prices and quite formal service.

We attended the spa at the end of last month for the supper and spa evening. The spa was fine; however, there was an issue with the supper that reflects the attitude of the spa as a whole. In the deal we had already paid for a 2 course supper. However, at the end of the meal we were issued with a bill of £10 for 2 cups of tea... £5 per cup of Yorkshire tea! This is an utterly ridiculous price and in no way should a cup of tea (without any hot water) cost this much. I proceeded to email "guest relations" about this issue directly about this. I was greeted with a patronising and dismissive response stating this price was "competitive". Competitive against whom, exactly? I have never been charged £5 for a tea bag and hot water. Besides, a tea bag, water, wages, utilities and vat should only warrant a £2.50 charge for substantial profit; I was not born yesterday. This email proceeded to state they were glad I'd had a good time at the spa itself (which was clearly not the subject of the email and demonstrated a disregard for objective criticism). As such, this reified my irration at the matter. Yes, indeed, Guest Relations, as your stated in your email, "we will have to agree to disagree".

Came for a surprise 25th birthday meal from york got told the day before and was really looking forward to it, came the waiter knew nothing about the drinks my girlfriend's cocktail came just tasted to strong and I drink whisky neat. Sat down for food starters came out scallops cooked well but nothing to the dish my girlfriends pigeon look really nice, I ordered fillet steak my girlfriend turkey diner which came out first followed by her veg 5 mins later then my medium rare steak came out well done with what looked and tasted like frozen chip ? I later realised alot is bought in because I seen the chef taking the boxes out to te bin, so I told the waiter I asked for medium rare and there wasn't a single hint of pink left he took it back, I went to the toilet and came back to my girlfriend laughing, while I'd been to the toilet my food had been brought back very well done this time, at this point I wanted to leave and go find a McDonald's or something my girlfriend had already finished her meal and was starting to look annoyed eventually it came out, very chewy, cold chips that had sat under the hot lights but the peppercorn was nice. The worst part of this Was the way one of the managers spoke to the waiter for doing what he was told by what seemed to be a higher manager Right in the middle of the restaurant worked as a head chef for a good few years with some poor staff and never had to speak to anybody like that. This was without doubt the worst restaurant I've been to save your money and go somewhere nice in Harrogate, we left and went to find somewhere for dessert and Harrogate looks like it's full of nice places.

Celebratory meal with a former colleague. Had booked on their recommendation and previous good experience there, but prices seem to have risen somewhat since then...

Have a lovely breakfast, plenty of things to choose from and also have an option to either order to be served or do self service. Excellent staff service. Thumbs up for all.

Mariynmm was spot on with her review - this has become a very pretentious place with staff who seem to judge very quickly. They also have very little personality.

We enjoyed a three course meal and the food could not be faulted at all. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area or staying at the hotel!

Popped into this wonderful hotel as I have on and off for 30 years and can only say the clock tower bistro is in danger of disappearing up its own trouser leg!!!

This was my third visit to this restaurant and each time it has exceeded my expectations. The staff are superb, and very willing to assist. The menu choice is very good and the food quality is excellent. There was sufficient gap between courses to allow for digestion and conversation alike. Overall a very good place to eat.

Was treated by the family for Father’s Day surprise afternoon tea. What a lovely place and great staff. The little touches meant so much .... staff really spoiling us ... delicious beer cake ... and fab wines. We will be back very soon, for another treat as we really enjoyed the food. Thank you!

One of the best fish and chips my mum ever had. Fresh and light batter and good portion size. Warm and welcoming friendly staff.

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
