Was having the time of my life at rudding. A Room and Dine indulgent Xmas prezzy to each other. Amazing room, spa and experience at first. Drinks reassuringly expensive but fine in the context. Then made the mistake of eating in the clockhouse on Saturday evening. The main dining room stank of fish so moved to other room. We were Still upbeat at that point and smiling and enjoying ourslelves...then...Caesar salad to start made a mcdonalds salad look gormet. Then...the £105 tomahawk for two arrived carved up like dog food and cold. I demonstrated this to the waiter by putting my hand on the 'sizzling hot stone'. Dissapointed but we gave them constructive and reasonable feedback and left. The picture of "tenderstem" cold broccoli sums it up. Such a shame. So close yet so far. Was worth the money up until it wasn't. I'll be marching to the front desk shortly for further feedback giving and reparations. I'll go back to using our usual treat spa place in Durham. Ribroom at ramside is a proper restaurant and know their onions. Might go over to Devonshire Arms for Sunday dinner to salvage.

Had breakfast and dinner here, both good experiences, the staff are particularly wonderful. Food quite pricey and not the biggest portions but ok when it’s included in your hotel package. Clocktower feels much nicer when dining alone as it’s more formal and quiet

Been to Rudding loads but not to the Clocktower before. We had a charity raffle voucher and booked in for lunch. Very friendly staff and prompt service throughout. Food was tasty, squid and truffle quavers, squash tortellini and meatball linguine then treacle tart and crème brûlée. Everything was tasty and well presented, the puddings were the stars of the show. Lots of staff and maybe too many looking after us which can confuse them. Can’t fault our visit though, was fun and tasty.

Food was very tasty although we'd all have preferred a larger sized portions for the price of the meals! What was disappointing was the price of a non-alcohol beer which cost £6.00! With the 10% service charge that was £6.60 for a bottle of beer! I can buy this drink in the supermarket for under £1.00 so the mark-up in my opinion is unacceptable.

We visited the clock tower restaurant and it was a beautiful setting. The waiting on staff were very attentive. The starter was excellent and the main course very good, however the banoffee pie was terrible, it wasn’t set and should not have been served. The waitress was very kind and removed from the bill. One of my friends had coke and it was flat, they replaced with another flat coke. An establishment this good should be doing these little things better.

We were bought a £100 voucher for our wedding which we used at the clocktower restaurant. Easy to book and the food and service at the restaurant was lovely however when it came to paying the bill, we gave the server our voucher and the card machine wasn’t working so I had to go up to the till to pay. A different person took the remaining payment and we left, when we got home we had been charged the full amount and the £100 hadn’t been taken off the bill. My husband rang rudding park multiple times to get this refunded and eventually it took 10 days to get this back, after spending to many different people. Always make sure you check before you pay!!

I want to say a huge huge thank you to Charlie and the team at Clocktower today for our brilliant lunch. As allergy parents, visiting somewhere new for the first time fills you with anxiety. We are so grateful for the time and attention given to us to ensure our son had the best lunch despite his multiple allergies. Desserts are off the cards 99% of the time for him and we had settled on the idea of him just having a bowl of fruit, but he was presented with a whole host of off menu treats! Meringue, vegan cream, chocolate ganache, raspberry coulis, fresh raspberries and strawberries! His smile was just amazing to see and we really appreciate the extra touches you put into place for us. (Despite what the other diners we were with may have said, that was all that mattered to us and we wanted to make sure you all knew that!)

Been to the Clocktower Brasserie today for lunch - very disappointing!! My husband's burger was served 10 minutes before my salad - he said it was mediocre. My salad was no bigger than a starter and the melon tasted funny,I told the waiter it was disappointing but he couldn't have cared. I had to ask for napkins and water - will not be back!!

We booked an afternoon tea in the conservatory and had high expectations when we walked in to the beautiful setting. Unfortunately everything went downhill from there. We were seated at a table and provided with our Prosecco, tea was ordered. Had to ask twice for milk, asked for a tea strainer, waited until tea was stewed and had to get up and get strainer myself, no teaspoons, no sugar. Waiter came and presented our3 (dry) sandwiches - no napkins on the table. The wait between sandwiches and cakes was probably around 30 mins but felt longer as we stared at empty plates, empty glasses and empty teacups and were ignored by all the staff milling around. (Of which there were plenty!) When the cake stand arrived we asked for more tea, as did the ladies at a nearby table. Theirs arrived, ours never did. We didn’t get a clean plate for desserts and had to steal spoons from another table for the mousse cake and clotted cream. Just didn’t expect this level of shoddiness at a hotel with such a reputation. Certainly would not recommend

My wife and I were treating ourselves to a meal at Clocktower Brasserie so we could use a voucher we had been given for our wedding. Local to the area, but not regulars at RP. We arrived 15 minutes early and took a seat at the bar to have a quick drink. At this point, it took the staff (who were generally very nice) at least two minutes to even acknowledge our arrival. There was only one other couple at the bar, so they were hardly overrun at this moment in time. Having gotten our drinks, we then made our way to the restaurant entrance to be seated. We were informed by one of the bar staff that someone would be with us momentarily. After a couple of minutes of standing, with no sign of someone coming to look after us, one of the waiters hurried over to again let us know someone would be with us shortly. After another minute or so, said waiter then took it upon himself to ask who we were and what room number we were staying in. We informed him we were not staying in the hotel, however, had a dinner reservation. After scurrying through the paperwork, he could not find our reservation and informed us he could clear a table in the conservatory which would be ready in a few minutes. We were instructed to sit back at the bar. The staff then made light of the situation by saying we should have never gotten up and just shouted at the restaurant when we wanted to sit down. On reflection, this all seemed a little unorganised, unprofessional, and not the premium experience I had expected. Once seated, we were then given food menus, but no wine/drinks list. This was only provided once asked for. We decided on prawns/scallops to start and cod/lamb rump for our main. Generally, the food was very nice although, herein possibly lies one of the main negative points of our experience. If you are charging £22 for king scallops, you cannot serve three measly-sided scallops with a little puree and chopped cauliflower. It just seemed like extremely poor value for money. In total, the meal, sides, and bottle of wine (£40) totaled over £200. For a midweek meal for two, this seemed excessively pricey based on the service and food we received. To put this into context, RP's new fine dining restaurant is offering midweek tables including a drink on arrival, six courses, and a drinks pairing for £120 per person. Maybe we would have been better off trying to book this experience instead. In summary, what could have been a nice evening fell short of the mark and left an unremarkable memory when thinking about whether we would recommend or return again. Sorry team RP!

Been a few years since we last visited and very impressed. The conservatory is a beautiful place to be on a sunny day and the food was simple yet excellent quality and well executed. Why not five stars?? The service was friendly but a little spotty with staff needing more training and the wine list and food could be better. Keep up the good work!

Visited the Clocktower restaurant with friends for a light lunch. After being shown to a nice table outside on the terrace, we waited over 20 minutes for someone to take an order for drinks and food. As no one had appeared, I went inside to find someone to take the order. After a further 10 minutes, a waiter came to take the order. The food arrived after a further 10 minutes - but no cutlery, napkins, bread or drinks. The waiter went back for the cutlery but failed to bring a soup spoon. Off he went again returning with the soup spoon and had to be reminded that the drinks hadn’t yet arrived, so around 50 minutes after our arrival, we finally had our order - the pea and watercress soup, a caesar salad and a coconut prawn salad. The soup was very a very small portion, the caesar salad had minimal dressing and no parmesan shavings. The prawn salad (£22) had 5 prawns, no coconut, a few strips of unripe mango on a pile of lettuce. We raised the issue with waiter and when he brought the bill he deducted the cost of the prawn salad. A fair response but it doesn’t answer the question of why such a poor apology for a dish was served in the first place. When the bill appeared, I indicated that I would pay by card and the waiter said he would return with machine. 15 minutes later there was no sign of him so I went to the desk and paid there. In summary, poor overpriced food and no service at all.

Having been a supporter of Rudding since it opened, it is always a pleasure to go to the clocktower. The last visit bordered on a disaster. Inadequate service and below average food. The two course meal took 2+ hours. The service was slow and a waitress was sulky. It turned what anticipated enjoyable event into a frustrating and bordering on miserable afternoon. The only positive is that the manager waive the bill as it had been such a disaster. Only hopes they get their act together and returns to inform spectacularly good self.

Been twice in the last week due to various engagements. First was my partners birthday dinner with family. Drinks took ages to arrive and when glasses were empty no further drinks offered until I asked. Food was great. I’d arranged a ‘birthday plate’ to arrive for him which was bought to the table in a very casual manner ‘is it someone’s birthday’ and plonked down in front of him. No candle, no special effort made which was disappointing for such a big occasion when I’d called up to request it in advance. Second was a business lunch a few days later. Ordered 4 drinks (2 soft drinks and 2 beers) and half an hour later (and starters finished) still no drinks arrived. Ordered Caesar salad for main with anchovies, they forgot the anchovies so had to bring them separately on a plate. Staff and food are always lovely but I’ve found service levels have fallen a lot recently for somewhere that prides itself on being ‘Award Winning AA 4 red star’)

Went for an early evening meal with my wife. I've been to numerous family occasions in Rudding PArk, and in particular at the CLocktower. It's always a really lovely experience, and the food is always of the highest standard. This was no exception: friendly staff, prompt service, and of course great food. We both started with the scallops, which were outrageously good. Then my wife had another starter as her main, while I had the cod loin. Again, just superb. We'll keep going back.

Had lunch at the Clocktower Restaurant with 3 other girlfriends. There is a lot of work going on with a lot of drilling noise for our first hour we were there which I realise has to be done but think we should have been told on booking! Also a very limited menu so we all had 2 starters each! The service was not good at all. I had to go to find someone after being there for 15mins & not even offered a drink. It was very disappointing which I am terribly sad about as I’ve been to Rudding for many different occasions & I’ve always praised everything about it.

I live in the local area and visit RP fairly regularly so decided to treat myself on my birthday and have dinner in the Clocktower. Unfortunately this time, I left feeling really underwhelmed by my experience. I had booked back in November for 6.45pm as they said this was the only time available. I emailed a week or so before asking if there was any possibility we could move the booking slightly later but they said that they were fully booked until after 8pm. Absolutely no issue with this but the Clocktower was virtually empty until at least 7.45pm with plenty of other tables available! The service was great (as always) and the food was tasty but the course did seem to come out very quickly and we almost felt a bit rushed. We had a voucher to use so we put that towards the final bill, however if we didn’t have a voucher, I would have felt begrudged to pay so much! The prices definitely seem to have increased and I understand RP is a luxury five star hotel but it did seem overly expensive! I do love Rudding but this time it just seemed to have lost its special spark.

Afternoon tea for Mother’s Day, food excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive, at no time did they make you feel you needed to rush. Booked for 7.30pm on a Saturday night. Hotel and surroundings are beautiful although the works to the outside driveway and car park do not make access pleasant, especially in the rain. The menu was ridiculously priced, but their 50% off food offer made it sensibly priced. £24 for fish and chips, most of which was oily batter, would have been crazy. The food was acceptable, nothing more. We also had a long wait between the starter and main course. We did not bring this to anyone’s attention but a member of staff came and apologised, saying that a large table had come in just before us. Perhaps decent staff training would have prompted him to offer us another drink to make up for the wait, during which time we all finished our £10 a glass of wine. The biggest problem was the noise. We were on a table near the bar where there was live music. It was far too loud to have an easy conversation whilst eating. We complained on a number of occasions but nothing was done to remedy this, other than a member of staff closing one of the double doors leading to the bar, which was immediately followed by another member of staff opening the door. There was absolutely no need for the musician to set up so close to the restaurant. The bar was big enough for him to have set up and the opposite end of the room, well away from diners. So all in all a very average experience, certainly one not to be repeated anytime soon.

Met a colleague to catch up over a light lunch. A very smart but relaxed place to meet with good prompt service. However, I have never seen such a small sandwich (both of us), made from the end of a tapered sourdough, with a small bit of slaw accompanying it. The ingredients were excellent, but for over £12 each you really expect a proper sandwich. Also what does it cost to put a few kettle chips on the side! Don’t mind paying a price for the venue, but you expect portions to be generous. Very disappointing, but given the other reviews this may have just been a one off.

The starter was really nice, the pudding was even nicer. However, when our Sunday dinner arrived the yorkshire pudding was flat compared to what we had seen coming out. That didn't matter too much we just got with it and started eating. Then we tried the beef... and noticed it had a bad smell. It was both our beef. We left the beef and spoken to Richard once he had taken the plates. We told him about the beef and asked for him to smell it. He said he would check with the chef. He came back and said he smelled it and it smelled fine. I asked did you smell ours on our plates. He said no he had thrown that in the bin already. I can only describe the beef as having a pungent smell. Like it was past its expiration date or left outside the fridges for hours on end or something. But it 100% didn't smell right. We had already paid upfront (voucher for 3 course sunday dinner) so was left disappointed and a bit fearful about possible food poisoning. Its only been a few hours so far but aren't happy about our experience

We were greeted by a polite member of staff and taken to our table, and our waiter for the evening, Drag, was amazing and very attentive throughout the evening. The food was great — we opted for the steak and the Venison and both were amazing. Salt and chilli king prawns were also very nice. Would have been nice to know more about where the game meat came from however. Only major let down was the decor. The restaurant was extremely bright for an evening and the overall decor felt very outdated. All food was served on the same white plates which often made dishes look a little boring. The cheeseboard was served cold (should be served at room temperature) and the butter was solid and cold again. At breakfast time, the continental breakfast was great with good options for fruit and cereal. The breakfast was advertised as being served on sourdough however this was not the case and was served on regular white bread, not really what you would expect at Rudding Park. However the staff again were lovely and we could not fault them. Overall, some modernisation needed for the decor, and some more attention to detail on the presentation of food, especially for the price you pay to stay there.

We have been to Clocktower many times. We joined the Foodies system. We ordered drinks 2 glasses of Rose but white wine appeared, beer came as ordered. Changed the wine fine. We ordered turkey for two of us and lishmans charcuterie for our friend. Turkey was modest and no roast potatoes. Subsequently noticed that roast potatoes was £5 extra, for two small roast potatoes. We think £24 for a modest turkey too much. Would have been happier if one roast was in the price. We then had coffees which was fine. We waited 15 minutes for the bill but had to search for staff so we could pay. We got the feeling all the staff were not very well trained . Think we will leave Clocktower for a while and await improvements.

A lovely meal this weekend, restaurant is light and airy , modern , no tablecloths but this I applaud as no laundry which helps support the environment. Two of our party are gluten free and this was very well catered for . Anyone GF knows this can be very restrictive when eating out , but not here . GF Bread rolls were delicious, the fish and chips with GF batter were fabulous . Apparently the chef is GF so he knows what he’s doing - clearly . Bravo . We had King Prawns, smoked salmon among the starters . Both very good , Excellant smoked salmon that had a light smoked flavour and not fatty . Our party had fish and chips, halibut, duck breast and venison, all of which were highly commendable, beautifully cooked and presented too. It isn’t a cheap restaurant but the quality and presentation was excellant. Staff were attentive and thoughtful . Thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We had afternoon tea at Clocktower to celebrate a birthday. We arrived slightly earlier than our booking but it wasn’t a problem! Our table was already perfectly set ready for our arrival but since it was a really nice day outside I asked if we could sit outside instead. I felt awful because they’d already set it out so nicely but with no hesitation they were happy to relay the table outside for us and we walked around the grounds for 5 mins while we waited. The scenery and surroundings are just beautiful and the staff were amazing, particular Cris. She was so professional, friendly and attentive! There was an extensive tea menu to choose from and coffee was also available. They even said we could choose iced coffee given the weather. Refills were complimentary. There’s also an option to add prosecco / champagne for an extra charge. For the food they brought the sandwiches first and it was great as you could choose which you would like to try, great for my partner as he didn’t like a few of them so they didn’t go to waste! Cris even came back after to ask if we would like some more! The sweet aspect was lovely, macaroons, tarts, cakes, scones. I mentioned I don’t like carrot cake so they swapped it for an extra tart. Again, appreciated a lot that they helped me avoid waste and be satisfied! There was also a fruit slice available that Cris put in a takeaway box for us along with the leftovers we had to enjoy at home. All in all, such a beautiful afternoon! Would recommend if you are an afternoon tea lover.

A real mixed bag. The service was 10/10. Our waiters name was Lua and he was fabulous. He was so on the ball and clearly he’s made for customer service, or any job where he can just be a people person. All the staff we encountered were polite, friendly, professional and just generally quite wonderful. The food 3/10 This place really lets itself down with the food. It’s such a shame. I don’t know where the chefs were trained but it was like the land of salt and pepper ( the only seasoning used in every dish). There’s a chapter in Alice and Wonderland where a lady in the kitchen is shouting “MORE PEPPER!!!” and adding it to EVERYTHING. I think she was in the Clocktower kitchen last night throwing her weight around. And the carrot cake for dessert… Nothing on earth can convince me it was made in the kitchens here. Mr Kipling does a better carrot cake. This hotel is amazing, but until they have really taken their eye off the ball when it comes to the food.

Had an 830 booking on a Saturday night, atmosphere was good but the decor is not to my taste, it's very odd, very colourful and playful and not very stylish. It was incredibly bright in the room also, taking away from any ambience, plus there was no music. Lighting and music are basics, both wrong in this case. Staff were all very pleasant, only comment is I think we were seen by about 8 different staff over the course of the eve, no idea who our waiter was. The food took a long time to arrive. I noticed tables that were seated after us receive their food before ours. Just as I was about to ask someone, it arrived. The food was nice, not amazing, but the prices are just silly to be honest. £38 for lamb which came with a tiny vegetable garnish and one, yes one tiny fondant potato! £20 for three tiny scallops with too much fennel and celeriac. Venison again was measley for the best part of £40. I was disappointed to discover that not one of the 7 or so deserts was warm, they were all cold, and all £12. Raspberry Eton Mess with no fresh raspberries and at that price. The wine menu has good choice is but the cheapest bottle of red wine is £36. I really get the impression whoever is in charge here is just trying to squeeze the customer for every last drop which isn't nice. Prices are not reflected in quality or portion size, for example just one tiny fondant potato with the lamb, that's just embarrassing! Will not return. There are many, many other places better than this at a less punishing cost. People will pay the prices and so the restaurant won't care, but the management should really think about this and try to show fair value for what's being offered.

The food was plentiful, delicious and beautifully presented. But,m then again, we expected that from Rudding. What made this perfect was the extra effort the staff went to. The way they made our daughter feel as much an important part of the tea as us. That the chef, without us asking, made sandwiches specifically for her taste (jam and chocolate spread), without us even asking. Yes this might be an easy guess for an eight-year-old: it was that it happened without us having to ask, and with a smile, that made it so good. Oh, and the slices of chocolate and banana cake she was given too. The eta was to celebrate my wife's birthday, so they gave her the glass of Champagne complimentarily with the tea. Again an easy thing to do, but done without fuss. What was above an beyond was the plate brought through with chocolate truffles and decorated in chocolate writing with happy birthday. All the little extras were what made the afternoon so special. And we even got very pretty boxes to take what we couldn't finish home. In terms of cost, we though it was excellent value given everything above. Can't say whether it was cheap or expensive. All I can confirm is that we left feeling full, happy and spoiled. I guess it is up to each person to put their own value on that. We though it was exceptional value.

We had a superb afternoon tea in the Clocktower brasserie. The service was faultless and the sandwiches, cakes and tea excellent and plentiful. Very well worth the visit and an extremely civilised way to spend an afternoon.

The food and staff were exceptional. I had the lamb rump which was cooked to perfection, with a pea puree which was to die for. My Partner's salmon dish was also impeccable. The desserts were also fantastic. The chocolate delice was everything you'd expect in a premium dessert. The staff were incredibly friendly and energetic. In particular, Nick helped to create a wonderful environment. The atmosphere was only enhanced by the amount of happy faces on the staff. My only critique would be that the prices were more than you'd expect for the food. Although, this is likely to be expected as it is a hotel restaurant and due to the surroundings atmosphere. All in all a wonderful evening. The staff deserve an incredible amount of credit. The only reason it is a 4 rather than a 5 is the price point.

Slow drinks and fast food. Had to wait 15 minutes for pre dinner drinks and then had to wait to be shown to our table which was like a works canteen. Then we were ignored for 20 minutes and had to ask a waiter to take out drinks and food order. Incredibly, the starters arrived within minutes even before the drinks we had ordered! We had to ask the food waiter to get our drinks. Within 5 minutes of finishing our starters the main courses arrived. We had to ask for a break before ordering any dessert. We had been served two courses in 20 minutes. This meal for two cost £172 and for those prices you expect better service and treatment. The whole experience was abysmal

Sunday lunch sadly was a big disappointment. 5 people in our party plus a baby, so not a huge gathering but the time it took to serve the meal was painful. No apologies given for delays and I had to asked for our main course to be served! Meal was poor, roast potatoes had obviously been under the heater and were dry tough and tastless, and when the carrots came they were only lukewarm! Not wanting to spoil our family occasion I didn't complain. However I did send feedback on their website immediately, however I am still waiting for an acknowledgement for that. Overpriced, poor value, and over rated. 2 stars for the overworked gentleman waiter. We have had far better and cheaper Sunday lunches in our local pubs in and around York, which is where we'll be heading to in future.

Very very disappointing meal. Bruschetta very ordinary. Tomato bowl - tiny portion - tasteless tomatoes, minimal accompanying leaves and dehydrated tomatoes added nothing. The only thing I would change in M&S cafe Harrogate would be the high partitions, I had a bad experience Saturday 17 November, I found a table as usual while my wife ordered our food, Because she couldn't see where I was I stood up to let her know where, A senior lady put her bags on the seat on the other side of the table, I said politely that I had chosen the table and just stood up to let my wife know, However I politely said I would sit at the next table, It wasn't a I politely exchange but little odd, I was stared at by a person who had nothing to do with it and didn't get the whole picture, I didn't say anything to the man but only to keep the elderly lady happy, Please lower these partition as it's better for light and more convenience, Staff there are faultless and very helpful, Food is ok too, Thanks Jeff.

Eight of us visited The Kestrel for lunch. We were greeted and shown to our table immediately. The room was lovely and warm with a nice atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and efficient, she brought crayons and a puzzle page, for my grandson without being asked. Some of us chose the Christmas menu which was available without ordering in advance. We all had two or three courses and everything was nicely cooked and presented. Hopefully we can visit again soon.
