Marks & Spencer in Harrogate

Went with my, extremely reluctant pre teen, daughter to get fitted for bras, as I’d spent a small fortune buying ones that didn't fit. The lady who fit her was fantastic! She tried her with many styles until she got the perfect size. Thank you!!

Good food, busy for a Saturday lunch

I am an m&s addict and will admit that I literally shop here everyday since I work just a few doors down. The staff have always been super helpful and friendly, can’t fault any of them at all. Food is 10/10 always the best quality you’ll get from any uk supermarket. Love how there are always new, interesting and unique products for sale. Keeps the options fresh and varied.

Fine. Pity only have one checkout on ground floor

The store is clean and well set out but I needed some help to find a gluten free sandwich in the Food Hall as this is not my local M&S. I asked for help from an older colleague who sent me in the general direction; sometime later when I still couldn’t find what I was looking for I approached her again as another employee helping shoppers near by had been gone nearly 10 minutes. Perhaps this colleague was having a bad day but her exasperated attitude when I asked her to show me exactly where I should be looking, was very disappointing. I shop in lots of different M&S stores and can honestly say that this is the first time that I have been made to feel a nuisance.

6/2024 Ok ... I keep hoping things will improve with this M&S. Sadly I get such mixed experiences here. The store is nicely laid out and there is no questioning the quality of the M&S brand, BUT what is with the staff? There is a real Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde tone to the service. The staff are either very nice or it is service with a snarl ... the cafe is a microcosm of this. I attempted to use the app today after being asked repeatedly if I had it. It was not without trouble and the experience was very unpleasant. I find I do not come to Marks very often due to this issue with their staff. Very disappointing for a British icon like M&S. Simply not good enough. 2/2024 Excellent store and well provisioned as one would except from M&S ... BUT the cafe leaves something to be desired. There seem to be real supply issues with items; it's easier to find a Faberge Egg than a ciabatta here and much of the warm food options rely on ciabatta (never mind there is a food hall below bursting with rolls of every kind!). I asked if the warm options (bacon, egg, etc.) could be put on a toast instead?? 'Not allowed.' With the menu being limited to start with, this makes for a very unreliable dining experience. If you just want cake and coffee, no worries - but anything beyond is hit or miss. I have spoken to the manager about three issues within one week in the cafe and she said she 'took onboard' my 'feedback.' Watch this space.

Cheryle who served us was outstanding with regards to customer service however the store let her down. No cargo trousers with zip removable legs, no swimming trucks in my husbands size as for me no post surgery swimming costumes. Drove over an hour to visit the store, so disappointing. Nearest collection point if we ordered online over 20 miles away. Come on MS you can do better than this.

Lovely cafe experience however it was quite busy and we had to wait a while for a table to become available. The selection of cakes and teas was plentiful and it was a great stop for my husband whilst I shopped around so if your partners are anything like mine and would prefer to sit down then this is the place to go .

Very disappointed with service today. There was a very friendly young girl with brown hair who helped me chose a cake and was great with her recommendations! however, there was an older woman on the till with dark hair who was very impatient with my 87 year old grandmother. She had an awful attitude and was so unfriendly and kept going too fast for my grandma (who is slightly deaf and can get confused when rushed). It was very obvious that my grandma needed extra time and care when being served however that just wasn’t given and I left feeeling very upset with how staff handled a very simple situation. Working both in care and in hospitality it is not hard to cater to a customers specific needs. Moreover, she was exchanging glances with a man who was also working there.

Best food of any supermarket. You pay for quality and reliabilty to say nothing of good taste...it's not only for the middle class either...so roll up!...the prices are appropriate but not as high as for say Waitrose reflecting overall a better performance

After 30 years of being a customer had an awful lunch . And this was there reply . Marks and Spencer not the shop it use to be . I had told them what i had ordered in my last email . However after five days still no reply . Until i received this response today . Thank you for your email, sorry for the long wait for a reply, your last email did not come through to us correctly. Without the receipt we are unable to issue a refund as we do not have the amounts paid and the codes of each items that you purchased.

Popped into the M&S cafe for cuppa and a slice of cake mid-afternoon. Cafe very busy, managed to find an empty cleared table by chance. Many of the tables were piled high with the lunch remains from previous customers. Clearly not enough staff in this branch to clear and clean the tables which does not look good or create a good impression. Coffee was enjoyed by hubby and my tea and cake was very pleasant. Customers will be more inclined to return if they can find a clean table.

Store good Cafe was lovely and quiet Away from the bustle.. View over the street and at bunting level the Yorkshire Flags Enjoyed our time here each visit Had coffee and cold drink.. Lovely service Thank you

Very spacious and nice branch of M&S. - M&S cafe on the 1st floor. - M&S Foodhall in the basement.

My review is more specifically for the cafè. Really lovely food there. High quality produce and the coffees are great too. Not a huge selection of options but theyre varied so you'll likely find something you'll like. Staffare really friendly and its a nice quiet atmosphere. Child friendly too.

Not a great place to shop. Trying to find clothes in any kind of order was difficult, you could have been in tkmaxx for all the organisation. No staff on the floor, had to get the attention of someone in a back stockroom because 5, yes, 5 members of staff were having a good gossip. If you dont want to do your job, work elsewhere and give it to someone who does. Changing rooms were out of order, offered the mens, I dont think so, so now I have to take the clothes back as the fitting was all wrong. Wont be back, I wasn't the only customer not happy either.

Great store for all your food needs, very friendly and helpful staff.

£17 on cold food and uncooked chips

A fine selection of well-presented, quality foods.

The large cafe it used to be is now half the size, which is fine. But I was disgusted to see that everything is given using throw-away items - no real cups or plates or knives etc any more. What happened to "use & re-use" idea rather "using & chucking" for the sake of our environment ?

This shop is quite big and the café serves nice food 👍

Came with me and my mother and was only on my first cup of tea and the lady comes and takes our tray with my pot of tea, spoon and sugar and says “you don’t have to rush just moving your tray” without asking whether I was finished with it. I didn’t even have time to say “hang on a minute im not finished” I had to chase after her and say “I need that it’s got my pot of tea on” she then takes the pot of tea off and then goes to walk off again and i said “No I need my sugars” and she apologised but still had my spoon so I had to stir my tea with my finger. Far too eager to take trays. Made me feel rushed and uncomfortable didn’t even get to drink the rest of the pot. Leave people to enjoy what they paid for and take trays ONCE the customer has left.

A supermarket that strives to be somewhat upmarket.

Disappointed and Hangry: went there to change a jumper and there were beautiful photos of eggs Benedict claiming I could get them in the cafe. Inspired and hungry we headed to the cafe. My wife went to order and was told they had no eggs. My wife offered to nip downstairs and get some (which surely they should have / could have done) and they declined my wife’s support in this matter. Very disappointed.

The cafe does not provide saucers for any hot drinks which is bizarre, particularly when drinks are all served in cups not mugs. I saw customers standing their cups of tea on serviettes to avoid drips. I did ask staff for an explanation and apparantly its all to do with saving water when washing up. Strange, as more paper in the form of serviettes now being used to mop up drips. Think it's more of a money/staff saving exercise.

The Food Hall is amazing, lots of variety and presented like an American deli.

Friendly unhurried service looking for the required sizes. Good quality clothes, no quibble returns and plenty of changing rooms. They are not the cheapest but well worth what you pay.

Bit busy yesterday more than usual. Usual range of food and drink with bakery inside. Fresh flowers, alcohol,cleaning goods plus large selection of pre prepared meals and basic commodities like milk , flour,butter, eggs,breakfast cereal, biscuits, chocolate,fruit and veg. Like Tesco local os JS local but nicer quality and slightly higher prices.

Went for breakfast in the cafe today. Ordered the sour dough toast with poached eggs, bacon and beans. The toast looked like ends of the bread that would have been thrown in the bin and the eggs were hard and cold. The guys who were bringing out the food looked scruffy and uninterested. I expect a lot more from M & S.

Convenient for us for clothing.

I visited the cafe in Harrogate today with friends and was most disappointed. Other M &S cafes I have visited have served nice food. Today the food was terrible. Two lots of jacket potatoes were barely warm and two cheese and ham toasties were burnt as were the chips. This is most unacceptable and needs looking into.

Excellent service from Jo on customer services in the food hall. Sorted out a problem, easily and had a very friendly attitude. Thanks Jo. Your bosses should be proud to have you.

Went in for coffee and cake, Tammy was clearing pots and engaging with customers as doing her work especially the elderly. A credit to your store, general service was great, enjoyed the coffee and cake, could tell all made with quality ingredients

This chain represents England for me! They everything; from food, clothes, shoes, cosmetics, gift items (wrapping, cards, etc), home textiles and more. Many of the items are M&S own brand and they keep a high standard for all items.

Lovely lovely happy staff on all departments very pleasing to see and very helpful.... ladies toilets not very clean today...wonder if men like sitting on wonky seats, it does appear that marks think women can!!! I will leave it at that !

Great service fantastic product quality

Today I tried the Mango Mint Smoothie, absolutely delicious, thirst quenching.I shall be back for more.

Tall elderly man was following me around and claiming i was stealing because i was holding my items in my basket despite me walking towards the counter no where near the exit and further got in my face and accused me of stealing i which i put my items back and left

my friend says his water has a good crackle

Called in about 2 .30, it wasn't that busy but long line waiting to pay was very slow, then after paying, the wait for the coffee was just as slow. Little choice in sarnies to. All in all a pretty poor show.

Nice shop but quite expensive still

I bought a £15 Birthday cake here and was so disappointed, the cake was so dry and horrible really not edible if i lived in Harrogate and had the energy i would of taken it back, after all the hundreds of pounds we spend in this store ..we have never had a issue the food is lovely ...What a utter disappointment this cake was and to make it worse it was my birthday cake 😪 P.s The cashier was lovely and helpful.

Cafe was terrible went in on sat 23rd April stood in que for a very long time to be served, only one serving one making drinks the rest stood around talking and saying things customer's don't wish to here .And looking around all the table's were full of dirty pots afew people walked away all the staff we saw were young one's not a adult ,supervisor or manager in sight to tell them to get on with some work.a big let down for the store.

Sad. Nice enough building but it's sad to see that M&S is reduced to this. The menswear department is dismal but that's a general observation of most stores these days. As usual I'm waiting by the front door yet menswear is upstairs instead of being where men tend to be.

The poor female member of staff bullied and berated in front of customers in the female toilets at harrogate store 12.12.21 at 13:00. Needs repremanding for his appalling behaviour.

Poor service, despite the web site listing stock, when I arrived and asked a member of staff I was told.. 'tbh it could be anywhere in the stock room, our system is poor so please dont trust it' basically he didn't want to even look... Very poor service and not what's expected from m&s

Poor service particularly at the end of the day when staff wanting to get home. Waited 15mins for a ‘manager to come’ and address a minor problem.

Excellent food store but clothing a little dated

Refused a return with the receipt as unknown to me, though I am a regular customer both in store & online M&S have changed their returns Policy, returns now only allowed until the date now printed on your receipt. Irronicly tonight on TV channel 5 12/11/21 the program Inside M&S has just been broadcast, giving great acclaim to their returns policy. I am/was sad disappointed & upset & embarrassed because I did not know of their policy change. BEWARE of the embarrassment of being refused a return, LET YOUR FREINDS & FAMILY KNOW, 35 days. No longer the company with a reputation to uphold.

Dear God! Awful Cafe, seating area awash with uncleared dirty tables, staff incompetent and slow, utterly grim.

If you start putting your staff's pronouns on their badge i.e. he/him/his - then I will stop shopping in M&S for good, your decision M&S, you can either comply with these far left ideologues that are taking over our institutions and claim there are 100s of genders, or you can grow a backbone.

The cafe does a nice jacket potato with beans and three cheese. Although if you go after 2pm they are likely all gone unfortunates!

I loved to shop here but now customers are bombarded with dreadful music blaring out. Thank God for shops like Primark, Aldi and Lidl who don't bombard our senses with such awful drivel!! I now rush in and out as It's just too awful to to stay in the shop and browse. If ever there was a case to drive customers away it's this! I

The store was very busy,but it's a large shop and well laid out. There seemed to be plenty of staff and all I spoke to were very helpful and pleasant.

After waiting in a queue for over 30 minutes we went to order the bacon roll as shown in the big poster just outside the entrance to be told it wasn’t available. Most if the staff stood around not doing anything and one order point open on a busy Saturday .

Why is that M and S NEVER have enough staff manning their cafe areas. Lunch time and twenty in the queue but only TWO staff serving. Lots of empty tables but 15 minutes to get served . Food came out quickly and staff were friendly . We have visited numerous cafes in store and they all appear the same but no one ever comments or listens

Went to M&S Harrogate for breakfast. Ordered scrambled egg on toast. When it arrived the eggs were not cooked properly in my opinion. They were quite watery and egg white was in lumps. I returned this and was told we serve eggs wet will make you another. I expected the second one to be more cooked (given the reason for returning) which it wasn't. Couldn't eat, didn't want tummy troubles. Without waiting a queue there was no one to speak to about this. Left eggs at kitchen counter, so they will know about this. Husbands bacon ciabatta was not nice either. Expensive non breakfast. Will not visit again.

It's a good store but didn't have the shoes I wanted.

Waited ages to be allocated a table. Numerous staff on restaurant floor. One member of staff on till, unbearably slow! Note to management you will lose customers if you don't manage your team correctly. Was told the cafe was short staffed, this is crazy as the amount out of staff I counted from sitting at my table was 7!

The service in the lingerie department was excellent. It was my first time shopping in M&S Harrogate. Although their fitting room was closed, Aubrey still let me try them on. Aubrey was very attentive, friendly, and was willing to go the extra mile. She made sure these lingeries are fit and comfortable. She was also very knowledgeable and told me the different types. I will definitely come back for more shopping. Great customer service!!

Bought a cardigan for my better half. Many quality clothes on offer & well presented. Nice people to deal with & smiles all around. Thank you.

M&S used to be a great place for clothes shopping with good style and quality. Unfortunately, in recent years I observe that quality of materials goes drastically down. M&S starts resembling low budget disposable clothing shops.

Had lunch in cafe. Coffee and sourdough toasties. Excellent. Very impressed at covid safe organisation and continual cleaning of tables, seats etc. Stall friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

It's a mark's and sparks It's always nice a bit pricey on a few things. Staff are very friendly and helpful to your needs.

Tried to get into Betty’s but people were queuing to get in, so we went to the M+S cafe in Harrogate Town Centre instead. So glad we did as my wife and I really enjoyed it (so much so that we’ll not go to Betty’s again while ever this place is here to be honest; it’s such good value). I had tomato and basil soup and it was superb; I’ve had it in 5 star restaurants and it’s not been as good. I then had a fish finger sandwich and that was excellent too, on lovely white bread. A couple of sachets of their own brand ketchup just finished it off nicely. My wife had a jacket potato with tuna and mayonnaise, served with a lovely dressed side salad, and she said she really enjoyed it. It was a proper oven baked potato with loads of filling. The tables are well spaced out so we felt safe. The staff are really friendly and keep a good distance. The chap that served me was called Daniel and he couldn’t have been more helpful, as we had not been before so we were not too sure of the setup. As people left the cafe, the staff were thoroughly sanitising the tables AND chairs before the next customers went to them. Whoever is in charge of this place can be really proud of themselves as it is spot on; I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you; we’ll definitely be back the next time we are on holiday.

Whoever buys the ladies clothing needs to update a bit. Size 16 hardly ever in sales!

We only went to the toilets and then the Food Hall so I can't really comment. Well organised.

Run out of Superlatives for this Store and the Staff. Absolutely marvellous shopping experience here. Thank you for the Training your Staff receive. Will always visit M&S of Harrogate.

Not able to claim my £5 Sparks bonus, very disappointed.

Would be better if they stopped rearranging the stock. In the current climate I like to spend as little time as possible in shops. So instead of shopping for 10min you spend half an hour looking for items because everything has moved. Poor.

Clean and tidy, with a good range of clothing, household wares and food, all well laid out and with easy access so that social distancing can be accomplished easily. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. There is a good cafe on the second floor selling really excellent coffee and delicious cakes.

Much like any other M&S and with a large area of sale rails divided in size order. Queuing at the checkouts was particularly long despite only a few people in the line as the sales staff took an age to sort out issues and process returns.

I go for specific items and always find what I want. Friendly and helpful staff. Good quality material. I've never had problems swapping items.

I get my clothes there but they have a very poor selection of jumpers

They have a toilet which is open during the current crisis, as always clean and well looked after

I've always been a M&S fan! All my life in fact, my mother and all the family too!! Good quality goods, at a good price. We used to buy food too but not much now because, unfortunately, most of them contain palm oil which we try to avoid!
