Such a change to find a pub/restaurant that caters for vegetarians as well as vegans. If I'm eating out I want real food, not fake meat and fake cheese so it was a real treat to be offered apricot and Stilton pate and cheesy Wensleydale potato cakes with salad. Very friendly waitress and she was happy to check the ingredients of some of the dishes for me as I do have an unusual dietary restriction.

Visited the restaurant while on an overnight stay. The Coach House is a relaxed venue with friendly, well trained staff. Drinks were served to our table with impressive speed while we perused the menu. Service slowed from there - especially between starters and mains. We enjoyed the beautifully presented beetroot and asparagus salad- and the wild garlic soup was well received though a small bread roll would have been welcome. The white pork T bone got a thumbs up but there were issues with the flat iron steak main course. The meat was well prepared and served medium - as ordered. However, it came with chopped lettuce leaves which masqueraded on the menu as a ‘house salad’. There was also a half of a medium sized griddled tomato and chips (fluffy and crisp) which had just as many ‘scrappy’ examples as there were ‘chunky’. Just a little extra on this plate would have made all the difference. A further disappointment was the pan au chocolat bread and butter pudding which seemed to be void of the spices usually associated with such a dish and came with a really meagre quenelle of ice cream. I can understand why this restaurant is popular but I feel there is a question mark over value for money.

We were riding the Swale Trail from The Dales Cycle Centre to Gunnerside with our 5 year old and 2 year old. We battled wind and rain for 4 hours and finally arrived at Gunnerside exhausted (especially the 2 little ones) and decided to have a drink and dry off. We purchased a Pint, a half, two glasses of apple juice, Mini Chedders and a Twix for £15.10. We asked if they were serving food, the bar lady explained they were not. Having taken a seat inside, our kids were starving so we gave them sandwiches from their pack lunch that they were unable to eat on the ride as it had been pouring with rain for most of it (we didn't think a twix and mini cheddars were enough sustenance for a 2 and 5 year old). We were exhausted, but happy after a hard ride and thankful to be inside in the warm during heavy rain. 5 minutes later, someone from the kitchen headed over and tells us the kids can't eat their own sandwiches in the pub! I explained that we'd just bought £15 of drinks and snacks and unfortunately they were not serving food and the kids were starving. The lady told us rather rudely that "we should have planned better" and insisted the kids could not eat their tiny sandwiches. Frankly this attitude was so unnecessary and petty. We were going to spend another £15 on another round of drinks, but given the attitude and being made to feel unwelcome we instead headed home. What seemed like an ok pit stop on a bike ride is actually a tired establishment with a bad attitude. Would not recommend.

Returning to Yorkshire after many years, this confirmed the superiority of fish and chips in the county. Wonderful haddock in delicious light batter, which you don't get anywhere else. Lunchtime special a bargain, fish and chips, hot drink and bread and butter all for £11.95. In Cheshire, the price of a starter! Very friendly and helpful staff.

We would normally have gone to nearby Wetherspoons for breakfast but it was closed so we headed to Cafe V as it is number one on Trip Advisor. OK, it was our first time there so we didn't really know about the standard operating procedure. There were menus on the table so we took a seat, perused the menus and waited ...and waited ...and waited. Finally got up to where they were taking take-away orders and tried to place an order but were told to go back and someone would come to you (which they did). Anyway, moving on. The light breakfast was small but looked even smaller on the large plate it was served. Toast came on a separate large plate. I think it would have been visually more appealing to have had it all on the same plate. Food was tasty enough although the bacon was rather tasteless. Everything was hot (including the drinks). A bit on the pricey side and, all things considered, although we would go back, we won't be in a hurry to do so.

Average Sunday lunch. Not great, not poor just average. Being nearly Christmas the menu included Turkey which we had. There was a lot of food, in fact too much for the plates which made eating it difficult. Absolutely drowning in gravy as well. Vegetables were OK apart from the almost raw sprouts. I am not keen on mushy sprouts and prefer them to be firm but these were definitely not in the pan long enough. Service was very slow even though it was not too busy. They should invest in larger plates.
