Had a lunchtime crab sandwich and chips. The service was excellent and the food well prepared and excellent quality. I would have awarded 5* had it been a little cheaper, £18 I felt was a bit expensive however, I appreciate the difficulties Cornish hospitality face in the winter months - would highly recommend and great menu. Well worth a visit.

Regular visitor to this lovely cafe. Sometimes latte, sometimes teacakes but this morning I had smashed avacado on kernow cob sour dough toast, two poached eggs, tomato relish. It was delicious. Linda makes lovely latte and is friendly, remembering the locals names. Lee the chef makes lovely food. The cafe has parking, free WiFi, and is dog friendly. Highly recommend

Called in on a Thursday evening. Was really pleased, nice lay out. Great selection of drinks. Menu was a traditional Pub Grub, all the favourites that we like. I went for Garlic mushrooms to start, nice. Gammon for main, very tasty, and a proper man size portion, very filling. Side Salad was fresh and crisp

Visited as a lunch out treat. Couldn't fault the service or the food which was served in a timely manner . We enjoyed the Hake with clam chowder and hubby had the chicken burger which he said was cooked beautifully and wasn't at all dry. Would highly recommend here for a good quality meal with friendly service and topped off with a sea view.

As a local family that has spent a lot of time (and money) in The Waterside our latest visit with a group of friends really left us questioning whether or not we would go back again. This is not a complaint about the food or the service of the waitresses at all but the owner. We were sat in one of the booths by the till. As a frequent visitor of the Meadery, I remember the days pre-Covid when the booths had netting separating the tables rather than the brown leather(?!) screens. The addition of these and the insistence of keeping them post-Covid has meant that these booths now have less air flow, making them hotter. This was also the case last year when we visited during Golowan - it was uncomfortably warm. During this visit, it was so hot in our booth so we rolled up the brown screen a little. This provided some ventilation. The owner came down and he was so aggressive and rude towards us and as locals we felt that this was unnecessary. He told us we had ruined the screening because we had taken all of the drawing pins out - we hadn’t. We had in fact taken one out. He then stormed off. This ruined our experience at the Meadery and we will not be returning before it is sadly knocked down. What was once our favourite restaurant seems to be a million miles away from how it was in its heyday. If the owner wishes to open up elsewhere then perhaps a course in customer service would not go amiss. The Waterside Meadery will be a huge loss for all of us in Penzance and the surrounding area but the customer service of late will not be!

Sadly, in our opinion, the Basset Arms has gone downhill. The roast was not good, it took an age to get to us, the vegetables arrived a good 5 minutes after the main plates, the cauliflower/broccoli cheese was very crusty, the roast potatoes were like leather, the chicken portions were very small and the service was poor. It was very disappointing!

Of the meals we had, most were ok. Unfortunately the ‘Specials’ chicken burger was special because it was a tiny mini fillet of chicken in a burger bun and £16.50 for this mini fillet and chips (which was no different to the child’s portion of chips) which was just outrageous. We didn’t complain at the time as we didn’t want to ruin our night and we were rushed for time - but basically we wouldn’t recommend the place. Our garlic bread was £4.50 for a bap with butter on and pricey for what it was. The other meals were ok, but expensive for what they were and unfortunately not hot when they came out and came out not all together. It was busy, others seemed to be enjoying themselves but for us it was disappointing.
