We stayed at the hotel here while travelling to Cornwall. It’s set in a loverly location and has some stunning views around the pub/hotel. The rooms were very well appointed and were very clean. They were perfect for what we needed. We chose to dine in at the restaurant and I’m very glad we did. It had loverly food which is locally sourced with many products listed as from the farm over the road from the pub. Service was great and staff were friendly and very helpful. Service was quick and we didn’t have to an extended time for any of the meals. The team at the pub looked after us well and helped with everything we needed. The following morning the breakfast was equally just as delicious, left us all with full tummy’s ready for the rest of our journey. I would highly recommend this Pub/Hotel and would happily stay here again if I was in the area

Avoid at all costs. Accidently booked the wrong restaurant for dinner this evening, thought we would try it now we’ve made the mistake and it was the worst mistake ever made. We were the only people in the pub yet the food took over an hour to come out. The kids pizza was a microwave Pizza which had extra cheese on it that hadn’t even bothered to melt , was like a greasy sponge cake. The macaroni cheese was made with shell pasta and was like a bowl of grease. No flavour to it just disgusting. Will never be returning.

Great Pub, Great Food, Great Atmosphere Since the new management have taken taken over my wife and I have visited on several occasions, sometimes just for a quick drink, sometimes for a meal and another time for an evening of entertainment. Every time we have visited we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff and customers. The food we had was fabulous and very reasonably priced (unusual in current times!) It's a PROPER PUB which is a joy to find these days. We met Stella (the pub dog) and found her to be a big softy! Yes she may bark sometimes when you arrive but so what, she's just saying hello. A great range of entertainment advertised for the coming weeks too ..... Sam and Dean have certainly turned this pub around and made it somewhere we want to spend more time. Highly recommended 👍

On arrival to fox and hounds in scorrier redruth we was greeted by a very aggressive Alsatian type of dog, who turned out to be the land lords dog, maybe they should prevent this as it’s quite large and intimidating on arrival, we ordered drinks and sat down, shortly later we ordered food, food wasn’t too bad but average really apart from the Alsatian urinating on the bar, it rather put us off, safe to say we won’t be returning next time we come on holiday to lovely cornwall, no stars not impressed

Carvery was nice, plenty of meat although it could have been hotter. Staff were polite but need to check on tables a bit more as you are not supposed to leave the table unless for the toilet and we did run out of drinks. My only issue was the number of flies! The chef dropped some garlic bread on the carpet runway to toilets then asked if it was ours we said no . To which she replied thank f**k then brushed it down and gave it to the right person . I should have intervened but let it slide only to be served with a cold 3 meats curry and my friend found what appeared to be a pubic hair. So we drank our beer which in my case was a Guinness laced with pipe cleaner . Got in the van and left without paying and can confirm it was the worse meal I and my friends have ever eaten in a pub . We think it should be closed down and the chef should be either retrained by Gordian Ramsay or go on permanent gardening leave .

I arrived at 0945 to wait for friends as we were going to the Great Estates Festival. My friends were arriving at 1000. We were greeted by the landlord coming out shouting that he was on the phone to police. Not one word to us to move or anything, just straight on the phone to the police. I politely said we would be leaving in the next 10 minutes as we were meeting friends and then leaving. He left this poor young lady to deal with it. There was a sign as I entered the car park which stated" no overnight parking or festival parking" I was not over night parking or parking for the day for the festival. I then got told to move as their customers would be wanting to use the car park. I asked what time they opened, which was 1130-1200. I then reiterated that I would be leaving in 5 minutes now as some time had passed. This was all done in front of my child with the landlord threatening me with the police which was very upsetting for him. However I did not relent, I even spoke to the neighbours who were also upset with the way this landlord was acting. There were 2 vans and 2 cars in the carpark at the most at any one time with us all leaving at 1000. Just disgusting behaviour from someone that is supposed to help the public and especially in front of children!!!!!

Called in for lunch on a beautiful sunny day for a glass of the local Keltek Beer. This looks to be a CAMRA pub next to the Coast to coast Mineral Cycle Path. The landlady was welcoming but some of the beers weren't available. The pub however is stuck in a time warp ( not in a good way) The menu was very old both in appearance and style of food. We both had baguettes but unfortunately mine was inedible as the baguette and bacon were both raw. The landlady apologised and refunded me without any issues. It's a pity as this pub could be such so much more.

Did not find the staff very welcoming or friendly and the service was indifferent. Carvery is set up next to the bar, but there is not really room and so while queuing you are constantly in the way of other people. Selection of vegetable was limited and quite poorly cooked, meat was rather tough and the food was only lukewarm. The dessert menu was small and the bannoffee pie was definitely a mass produced one and the ice cream was tasteless and full of ice crystals. On a positive note it was dog friendly.

We weren't sure if the pub was open at first when we got to the car park. Once inside, despite there being 6 people at one end of the pub, we still weren't sure!! We were welcomed by who transpired to be the landlord at the bar, ordered drinks and looked for a private place to sit and order our food. After waiting at the bar for a few minutes, the landlady appeared and took our order. The starter was some garlic bread which was a pale looking baguette, sliced length ways and put on a plate.... no garnish or attempt to 'jazz it up ' The main meals came in good time, however I was disappointed with mine. The mushrooms were obviously microwaved to heat them up. The rump steak was cooked to my liking but the best part of the meal for me were the chips. My partners scampi was ok, but maybe they could ease up on the balsamic vinegar dressing on the scarce salad that came with it. I had finished my meal, but as my partner took a little break from hers, the landlady whipped the plates away before looking back and asking if we had finished...…. well, obviously we are now love!! We were joined by another couple sitting across from us ( not invited or known to us ) who kept looking at us, as did the stuffed fox that was in a glass case fixed above the fire place. We declined the offer of 'sweets ', paid up and left. Im sure the landlord and landlord and landlady are lovely people, but the pub was, in my opinion, a local pub for local people.

The Fox and Hounds at Scorrier has been a vegetarians dream for many years. The previous proprietor used to cook fresh, home made food, with the most wonderful veggie dishes. Also, we have always had a soft spot for this pub, as we had our first date there. However, we will not be back. Today my husband ordered steak and ale pie, which was bought not home cooked. It came with chips and peas, very exciting. I could have ordered chilli, but I don't like it, and the other veggie dish of mushroom stroganoff was unavailable. I ended up having eggs chips and veggie sausages, something I could easily produce at home. The lager choice is either Fosters or Heineken, again, very exciting, but to top it all we were charged 40p for a dash of lime!. The man who brought the food over asked who's the pie was, and plonked the plate in front of my husband, and mine in front of me. We both said thank you but did not receive an acknowledgement, and at no time did anyone approach our table to ask if everything was OK. It's Friday today and they did not have fish and chips on the menu. We also noticed the locals who used to come in for a lunchtime drink were no longer there. Tourists may pop in there, but the locals are leaving in droves.

Always on the lookout for a good Sunday roast we tried the Fox & Hounds, not long after it had apparently reopened. Unfortunately first impressions were not the best; the interior is very dated. Looks aren’t everything though, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, so we reserved judgement for the food. Sadly, this too was not the best. Far from it. Although the turkey and the pork on the carvery were moist, the beef was overdone and dry. The vegetables were all simply boiled and very bland, and the gravy was thin and very salty. Overall, pretty poor. We tried dessert looking for some kind of redeeming feature but the ones we tried were obviously from a cheap wholesalers and very lacklustre. The cheesecake in particular was almost tasteless. We are really keen to keep local pubs alive but if this carvery was representative of their food in general I can’t see it lasting long, especially when there are much better options not too far away.

Waited a long time for it to reopen. Supposed to have been refurbished..!!!..would not have liked to have seen it before...Dowdy oak furniture and copper topped tables are definitely out of fashion. My wife asked for a toasted sandwich on brown or granary bread. The barmaid replied they did not have any as they had only just opened. Weird excuse.!!!.So she accepted ordinary white bread. When it arrived it had obviously been made in Breville toaster device. It was rock hard and burnt underneath. The side salad was 2 limp lettuce leaves and a strand of red pepper. My chilli con carne was lukewarm and the rice was cold. When the replacement arrived it looked like something out of a baby's nappy and tasted like it as well. We eat regularly locally but will not be going back there.

Asked for a glass of wine and a pint and got a very sour reception and then we went to pay by card and the response was "TEN POUNDS" so I said oh ok then can I start a tab? "WELL ONLY IF YOU ARE HAVING ANOTHER DRINK" um yes well why would I ask for a tab if I wasn't?? "WELL IT STILL HAS TO BE £10!" And give me your card!!!! I had no objection to their £10 minimum rule but the way the woman spoke to me was so rude and unnecessary. We won't be visiting again anytime soon or recommending to anyone!! Look after your locals !!!! She could have said the same thing in a polite manner and saved themselves a local customer!!!!!

We have been here many times over the years. We had to wait a long time while the food was cooked. But well worth waiting for. At least this proves food is freshly cooked. My husband had fish, chips & peas. The fish was small but nicely cooked according to my husband. I had mushrooms pan fried with garlic and blue cheese sauce on a large crouton. All I can say is. OMG it’s the best mushroom in garlic sauce I have ever had. It was delicious. It was classed as a light bite, but I found it very filling. I had a roll & butter to mop up the beautiful sauce. I even asked to see the chef so I could commend her on this beautiful tasty dish. Will we go back. A definite yes.

We hadn't visited this place for very nearly a decade. We used to go there fairly often but stopped for a reason I really can't remember.

We all enjoyed the food but it was a little expensive and more suited to a fine dining restaurant than a pub. Good choice. It was not very busy when we were there and this made the atmosphere a bit flat!

No hecho! Una experiencia muy buena.

Went for drink and a meal on valentines evening, the menu is not lavish or overly fussy but that is where too many places go wrong, a great selection of average, what they offer here is really well presented and well cooked food. Staff were friendly and courteous, the seating area was clean and well maintained yet comfortable, we will definitely be going again we thoroughly enjoyed it.If you want a huge menu of burgers, nuggets etc then perhaps not the place for you, if you like really nice, but not fussy food, at reasonable prices ( put in perspective it really is not that dear, a couple, meal and drinks £50 or so? ) added the fact food portions are very generous then I couldn't recommend more.

We stopped here after our original lunch plan fell through - the pub was pretty quiet for a Sunday lunch time. It's a traditional old fashioned pub, not at all modern, could use a bit of updating. We were made welcome & the staff were friendly and happy to accommodate our toddler with a high chair. Service was efficient too. We ordered one child's meal and two roasts. The food was lovely; the roast meat beautifully cooked with delicious roasters. The Yorkshire pud was a tad disappointing, a bit small & sorry looking which was a real shame as the rest of the food was quite lovely. The child's meal was a decent portion, 2 sausages, mash, peas & a small pot of ketchup. It was boiling hot though & took a long time to cool down enough for our daughter to be able to eat it, even the mash inside was red hot (therefore possibly an instant mash). We waited quite some time to order desserts so ordered at the bar in the end. Desserts were okay; sticky toffee pudding very tasty but bread & butter pudding a bit disappointing & only just warm - both had been reheated in the microwave we suspect. Two adult meals, a child's meal, 1 soft drink and 2 ciders came to almost £50 which felt a bit steep for a nice but not fantastic meal. Loos are basic & as expected, couldn't see any baby change area so had to change our daughter on the floor & no facilities such as a change mat or nappy bin.Would visit again.

Came in on a Saturday evening with my partner for some dinner, on arrival the young lady behind the bar was friendly we found a seat and had a look at the menu, in all honestly it's not a very good menu, it lacks much exciting, however we were there so we thought we would stay!Drink order was taken by a young chap who on all honesty had clearly not been given any training, he forgot his pad and had to run off, for two drinks?! I asked for a wine list so the girl returned asking if I wanted white or red, she reeled off three to choose from, but no Sav Blanc?! Now maybe it's me being fussy but I like to see where the wines are from and then decide! My wine came out in a god awful glass and the poor chap spilt the drinks a bit e dry time he brought them! Cutlery arrived, one fork filthy, napkin dirty, yuk! We just decided to share a garlic bread to start which was overall nice, only thing is garlic could have been chopped better!Main-I don't even know where to begin! My partner ordered "creamy" garlic and bacon chicken, he changed the rice for chips but it was a load of dry bits of chicken the sauce was bright yellow it wasn't thick enough to coat the chicken it was gross, he ate it but low and behold he's not been well today!I decided to have a steak, how wrong can you go with a steak?! Apparently very! It all looked nice but my steak was ordered rare, it was well done, chewy and pretty much tasteless! Half way through the landlady/chef comes out to ask how it's cooked because she "got caught chatting and simply couldn't get away" now I work in this trade and have had pubs myself why on gods green earth do you send out food you know isn't right! No apology no offer of having one cooked right nothing! Sorry to say clearly there is no love or pride in the pub or anything about it! Such a shame used to be an amazing place to eat! Terrible

This is a traditional village pub with beaned ceilings and the walls adorned with hunting scenes. It was very dog friendly,, both inside and out. We had the Fisherman's Crumble which was very good and the Thai curry. No complaints - friendly service and good food.

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.
