The Atlantic Cafe Bar in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Needs a coat of paint at the back seating area. Not a very nice aroma emanating from the loos.

Did a 4hr hike and ended up at Portreath Beach. Looked in at the Atlantic Cafa Bar, saw it was busy and thought it must be good. Got fish and chips to take away which cost a whopping £12.50. The food was ok however, it was served in a polystyrene container and the oil was dripping out of the box. It really needs to be eaten at the beach or in the cafe itself. So you are eating it immediately. It tastes better that way. The food was basic but for the price I thought was way too expensive. If you sit outside you are facing the carpark and subjected to the constant disturbance from loud, reving motorbikes.

Stopped by for takeaway chips as the smell was incredible. Quickly received the order and they were cold and old. Went back in to ask for a hot portion, told by the older lady behind the till she’d get a fresh batch. Was given the same portion back. They would have been amazing if they were hot. But a fiver for old cold chips is a joke. We live locally so a real shame to be duped.

Had the most fantastic late lunch here on a damp Saturday afternoon. The greeting as we walked in was a nice touch, the staff were all so attentive and constantly checking that we were ok. The food, outstanding! I had tofu in chilli jam on the best fries. The taste was brilliant. Some days you just see something that talks to you on a menu. This did and didn't disappoint.

The rain was pelting down when we found this little oasis of calm. Good beer, delicious food all served by charming, kindly young women. Heartily recommended.

Average rating for a bar out of season, two people with a dog, falafel with beetroot in my opinion too dry, hummus average. However, the fish and chips were one of the best we ate in the UK. Portions of the right size. It's a pity that for a dog-friendly bar, they didn't even offer water to our pet, but there was water on display outside. Overall ok.

Passed this many times but popped in for a coffee and completely seduced by the Eton Mess, at £6.50 for two scoops of ice cream , fruit compote, meringue and cream it was a winner. Lovely friendly staff with a warm welcome on a cold winters day . Will be back.

Fish and chips takeaway was very nice. Good job there. Service wise, not bad. Great sun spot in the afternoon! I've seen this place change over the past 20y from a quaint seaside town cafe into a more modern, polished restaurant. It has lost a bit of its charm along the way but it seems very popular these days.

So looking forward to fish and chips , ordered from the bar don’t know what I paid wasn’t told didn’t look , I was soo hungry waited outside which was fine , got food walked over to car in the car park 10 seconds away couldn’t wait opened lid chips stone cold , I could of cried and cold under the fish , such a shame as it was huuuge and looked beautiful I ate the fish and the chips ended in bin . I should of turned round when the lady gave me them but didn’t ah well moment on lips lifetime on hips .

I actually wish I'd taken a shot of the fish and chips I received the fish was huge it was the best fish and chips I've ever eaten the atmosphere was nice as well its great it is a dog friendly place as well I would certainly highly recommend I certainly intend to go again

Food was excellent, portion sizes generous, and the staff were friendly and very quick with food. Would definitely recommend eating here.

On the plus side the fish was decent, the chips much like classic chip shop chips and the portions were good, really could have had one fish and chips between two. However, the servers forgot about us and did not take our order while taking orders from people who came after us. We went up to the counter to order and then they forgot us again and did make our food, requiring us to go up again to ask where our food was. This severely detracted from the experience and meant it took about two hours to get food. I have given a low atmosphere rating mostly because of the amount of crying kids, but appreciate that is largely put of their control. But equally can't give them a good rating when the atmos was pretty horrible.

Always come to The Atlantic when visiting Cornwall. The best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Always delicious.

beautiful warm restaurant a perfect cosy atmosphere after a windy autumn walk on the beach with the dogs . fantastic hot food and drinks served promptly really good prices aswell which suprised me . brilliant customer service and the dogs enjoyed getting warm and having a fresh drink inside . looking forward to another visit too with friends

Me and my daughter had chocolate milkshakes which were basically flavoured milk with cream on top. The milk was not even close to being chilled and it definitely did not have a chocolate taste. At over £5 per drink I was expecting something quite special but was very disappointed. Also, why are they serving using plastic cups. They should be using glass. Not at all environmental friendly. My mum and dad were happy with their pot of tea. We provided feedback when paying and were told the milk is kept it a fridge. Perhaps they should retrain staff or check the fridge is not broken.

Quick service, decent home cooked food and cakes (the portion size of the fish they give you is outstanding!). Can be a bit greasy though so that's the only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5

Slightly chaotic service in low season makes you wonder how bad it can get at busier times.

This has got to be by far the worst food iv had, ordered 2 battered sausages and chips with salt and vinegar, No salt and vinegar, greasy and over cooled, tasted awful, sat on the beach and ended up tipping out for the seagulls which hovered above and wouldn't go near them àswell as dogs on the beach who would also not eat them. Very disappointed. Wouldn't eat here again!!

I ordered four portions of chips with curry sauce. I get down to the beach to eat them and had to go back for my curry sauce that they forgot. The chips were overcooked and greasy. The were terrible. The seagulls didn't even touch the chips they were that disgusting! Totally disappointed 😞

Had the whitebait which was substantial, delicious and filling. In fact I couldn't finish the side order of chips.

Always the best brownies and service is great. We often visit and it is always great. Fair prices and lovely atmosphere.

Came for dinner at 5:30, upon arrival they told us we had to sit at the front of the restaurant because the back was closed already…we didn’t mind but it was strange. Drink/food order took ages just overall the service was very slow. Took 45 minutes for loaded chips & a ‘chicken tortilla bowl’ which in reality is a wrap not wrapped 😂 I should’ve sent it back really! The chicken was so dry, salad was cheap and the wrap was so crispy from being under a lamp I had to leave half of it! For £14 you would expect more! We felt like an inconvenience as they were closing/cleaning up around us. Sorry we didn’t realise you closed at 7:30…maybe if your service was quicker we would’ve been out of your way 😅 all they were bothered about was chatting about who’s going to take more shifts/hours (which none of them seemed keen) odd vibe overall. The actual place is also very dirty, I get it’s by a beach but why are the toilets so rank?

Our visit was off the cuff, and the restaurant staff were also catering for a wake at the same time-service was first rate, considering dealing with the public and a sad event too. Our food (fish and chips, plus divine curry sauce} absolutely mouth watering.........i am the member of public who wanted to purloin the wonderful teapot the tea arrived in....however resisted.....great place, great staff and i can send my address if a teapot needs to be sent xx

I came in just to order a portion of chips for myself. I’ve got greeted by a friendly enough chap who promptly took my order. It was only one portion of chips. Upon paying he just tapped the top of the card machine, partially covering it with his other hand. I asked how much it was. 6 bloody pounds :o I was shocked! I said I only want a small portion and he said it was a standard size, then asking how big this standard size was. He repeated just a standard size. I said okay well can you show me with your hands and it was about the size of a burger box. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s safe to say I told him not to bother. I get the cost of living but £6 for a small box of chips is a serious piss take. The owners must be very very greedy.

Brilliant venue right down on the beach front. Good selection of fish but also other cusine as well. Portion size is generous and the cost is on par with other restaurants locally. Rattler tasted brilliant so clearly lots being sold. Didn't try the desserts but might have to sneak back for one.

This place looks quite unprepossessing from the outside, but inside...oh my... We were there on a stormy day, so the fairy lights were on for cheer. And from their first twinkle, to the mouth-watering menu (with so many vegan and vegetarian options it was a joy) this place had our hearts. The ladies loos were clean, and I could access them on crutches, though you might need a hand if you have greater access needs. The staff were lovely though, so I should imagine whatever you need generally they would try to help with if they could. We were very tempted to come back for supper and the promised live music as well, and probably would have done, had not torrential rain intervened. So if you're in Portreath, I'd recommend to anyone that you give this place a try.

Basic but on point, your order is taken at the table, food comes quickly, you pay at the till. Exactly what I would expect from a fish and chip shop/cafe. Food - First Visual Impression: . The fish and chips are one of the best see the pic, only small bit of feedback is I wish it came on a larger plate. Food - Taste and Quality: . Best fish and chips I have eaten, not only was the fish and batter cooked to perfection and not greasy at all, the chips are amazing! Environment/Cleanliness: . Very inviting and spotlessly clean. Value: . Excellent value for great quality food. Other (wifi, Parking etc): . I did not use WiFi, parking is the sea front car park which costs a couple of £. Overall Summary: We visit Cornwall every couple of years in the motorhome and have been back here 3 times now, the food is superb, excellent service and a great location! Highly recommend and we will be back again! They are dog friendly! You can reserve a table which I recommend you do as sometimes it is queued outside the door, you can walk past the queue and get taken straight to your table. Be aware on a hot sunny day the front tables can get a bit hot as there are large glass windows with no blinds, so it is like a greenhouse, they do open the windows but I did find there was a continuous supply of wasps as well, they have a back room which is more shaded and less waspy!

I mean, I don’t know where all these negative reviews have been to eat but it can’t be this place. We’ve been here from South Yorkshire on holiday & eaten here twice it was that nice! This picture of from our second visit… the seafood board! Wow! As fresh as it gets. Absolutely outstanding food, live music on tonight too which just added to the ambiance of a beautiful sunset in Portreath. We will definitely be back when we’re next in Cornwall.

Not a lot to say, other than a pleasent place for lunch . I wouldnt say there was anything particulary outstanding but for a lunch by the beach with family thats not a bad thing Pleasent atmosphere Decent food and helpful and pleasent staff, and service was as good as expected. Definetley a reliable place, where you can rely on a decent lunch if youre staying in the area, and next time we are visting family will no doub go back.

Good food, good amount of seating, both indoor and outdoor. Good location near the beach. Parking and accessibility is good. Very busy over summer months. Food is okay, not huge menu, portion sizes seemed okay but very expensive - probably due to location and people being willing to pay it. Be warned, anything cooked in the friar had a fishy taste to it... Made for interesting halloumi fries

Lovely fish and chips. Staff were lovely and polite. Unfortunately you have to go inside the restaurant to order your take away food. We had to wait quite a while for our meal as it was quite busy BUT the food was worth it. Again like everything else down here, quite expensive.

Omg where do I start.... Best food ever had from a seaside fish and chips restaurant. The loaded fries are amazing, I couldn't finish them, nothing normally beats me. Staff amazing so friendly and engaging. We were on hoilday for 2 weeks and came 3 times!! You have to eat here! Trust me! Thanks James, Adrianne, Harry, Amelia and Keira

It’s a shame that the staff have a poor attitude and few customer service skills. The food looked okay, however due to a colleagues’ bad attitude we did not stay and eat.

Excellent fish and chips.Very crispy light batter and piping hot chips which were not in the slightest greasy.Was quite a long wait but worth it.

Very nice interior and a very big menu I had chicken and chips the chicken was lovely , the chips were good but not amazing great for lunches . Also there are very big portions

I thought it was a little pricey at first but then I saw the size of the portion.. footlong battered sausage and a massive portion of chips (which were cooked to perfection). The batter on the sausage was a bit thin and no proper mayonnaise anywhere was a shame. Took a little while to come out but staff were quite friendly.

Popular and well-run Beach front takeaway and restaurant. Ate here twice and a takeaway too, wasn't disappointed. Good choice of meals, not just a fish & chip emporium plenty of other options including nacho bowls and BBQ chicken etc. Service pretty quick considering the numbers coming through the doors - the takeaway hatch system works well. Good local meeting/drinking spot too.

Really enjoyed the food and service was fast enough and efficient. Had the BBQ chicken basket.

Had a lovely meal and drinks here! The waitress was very attentive and food was really quick to come out, and it was delicious. The cocktails went down a treat too!

Don’t bother, bring food with you

Oh man I was so disappointed with my food and in heinsight I probably should have sent it back. The servers were really nice and the sun was shining which is why I think I didn't. But anyway I ordered the king prawns. It was around £12 and I got 5 prawns. I understand prawns are expensive and I don't mind paying that price if they are good, but they werent at all. They weren't fresh and they had obviously been frozen. I could tell because they were said to be fresh but they came out warm. They were really tough and they were so dry. It's really disappointing because going out is such a luxury these days with everything going up and then to have the food been way way way below average is a massive let down. My partner did have some really nice sausage and chips though I'll give them that.

Service is very bad!!! Food is not good!

I had loaded fries with breaded chicken. To be honest the presentation was one of the worst I have ever seen. Undercooked fries lay in the bottom of a cereal dish with melted cheese and ham and a chicken breast cut into thirds piled on top with four small slices of chilli. I was in fear of the whole lot landing on the table as I struggled to cut the food up for fear of tipping the dish. I thought about asking for a plate but the undercooked anaemic chips put me off. Sadly, I only ate about half of it. It would have been better in a rimmed pasta dish or on a plate. The service was faultless and staff were very polite.

Service was good. Young lady polite and efficient. I had takeaway sausage and chips. (£7). It's a foot long sausage. No wooden fork or anything available or offered. Chips had been cooked in fat that was obviously not hot enough, as they were all soaked in fat instead of cooked and crispy. They need to work on that. Maybe allow the fat to get upto temp especially between batches of chips. Couldn't take em back as I was too far away by that time.

I’m afraid that you should avoid this place for food. Very overpriced and the food is quite frankly disgusting. Chips were so greasy that I could still taste them hours later and the fish was absolutely tasteless. To cap it all the service was atrocious...

Small beach bar with a small selection of food

Expensive, £3.60 for a small cappuccino seems excessive. Takeaway fish & chips. Fish was dark and dry, chips were passable , plus my family had upset tummys afterwards. I won't be eating there again.

Large takeaway fish and chips. Chips tiny and rubbery, fish two pieces, finger size and grey. Most expensive £15.00 and poor quality ever had! I don't review but this place is not a good chippy, plus waited 30 mins as the only person at the rear collection hatch. Definitely not recommended.

Absolutely beautiful view of the sea ,excellent food and staff are so polite and helpful …. my disabled Son made his way here once he spotted the building and smell of food. He was quite agitated but the staff were amazing and fully accommodated his needs. While my Son ate his meal I ordered a cappuccino…… so if your looking for the best cappuccino in town they definitely do it! And it’s hot…… not luke warm 😊👍

The food was delicious and very filling. Little disappointed they charge extra to have a can of coke sitting inside but don’t provide a glass. Why am I paying extra for this?? £2.75 is over the top. Otherwise a great place

Service is terrible! 40 mins just to be served takeaway chips! I had to ask and got a bit of a cold fronted lady. Be quicker to drive to Redruth or Camborne. Poor service , didn't value customers views when I asked
