Visited here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. This visit however, the fish was really over done and the chips, fish and chicken bites were really greasy sadly. All food is cooked to order so there was quite a wait. For the takeaway 😔 The portions were very generous though!

Staying in Porthreath had a takeaway which was amazing , very generous portion sizes, good quality food, good value for money. Having being impressed we decided to eat in the restaurant, although they were extremely busy, the staff were friendly & efficient, special thanks to Chloe for the excellent service she provided to us. Again could not fault the food . Would highly recommend a visit.

So came to Portreath Beach for the day for my mums 80th. After reading reviews of this place thought it be ideal as not too far away. The place was lovely and clean. We ordered quite a bit of food most was very good, however, there was a couple of draw backs. Lets start with the pro's: Nachos were fantastic, my wife loved them, the fish and chips were also good my parents enjoyed them, the humous was also very good. Cons: Fish and chips ok its sad that a cafe by the beach uses frozen chps and the price was a bit OTT, i expect to pay a little more at the beach but not that much, the fish tacos, my-self and my brother had these and have to say, these were not good at all. Very greasy and i think the goujons were frozen! Again at the prices they charge i would expect 100 times better than what was served. Sparkling water, served luke warm as they had non in the fridge! Had to ask for ice. All in all was an ok visit, i would go back but wouldn't order the fish and chips nor the fish tacos as they were either overpriced or just not good to eat.

We stopped by here to catch up with friends. Staff were pleasant. The drinks were good and the cakes were nice. Also dog friendly :)

The food was incredible! We shared the seafood platter which was huge!! My favorite was the warm smoked mackerel. I hadn’t finished my tea yet so I got a to-go cup which was nice.

absoluletly amazing the food was beautiful i had fish and chips my partner had bacon chicken melted cheese and peppers served on chips and the ladies that served us was so lovely friendly and nothing was too much trouble we are going back tomorrow and we carnt wait 😀

We booked a table for yesterday evening, and just wanted to leave a review of how nice the staff were. Also, Food - was spot on! We’ve had takeaway from here on quite a few occasions, but I’d definitely recommend taking time out of your day to enjoy food in there too! The kids meals are so generous, the salads - oh my goodness, delicious! And the cocktails - perfect! Will certainly be back!

Visited on a busy Sunday evening. Generous portions, good service and a nice vibe. Bit of a wait for food but they were busy and did advise us they’d be a wait.

We had fish and chips with curry sauce. The curry sauce was quite good. The chips were flabby and undercooked. The fish was nicely cooked but it was an inferior piece of fish and there was something odd about the batter. So, altogether a disappointing dinner. I think it was a dinner aimed at visitors who the owners know won’t come again or they are using untrained staff

Nice place where we had a delicious meal for reasonable prices. Cozy atmosphere, you can also have a nice beer there. Later a DJ came with quite loud music; you just have to like that.

Amazing food, great portion size for the money

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Atlantic Cafe Bar in Portreath, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The service was absolutely amazing and warm, thanks to Connie, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and attended to our every need with a genuine smile. The fish and chips were simply gorgeous – fresh and perfectly cooked. My little one was also thoroughly delighted with her hot chocolate and calamari rings, which were crispy, tender, and delicious. Beyond the food, the ambiance of the cafe bar added to our wonderful experience. We loved the gorgeous paintings of the sea and the stunning sunset photographs of Porthreath beach that were framed and displayed around the venue. The addition of fairy lights created a charming and cozy atmosphere. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and beautiful decor made our visit truly memorable. If you're looking for a fantastic meal with top-notch service in a lovely setting, The Atlantic Cafe Bar is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Popped in to get out of the rain and absolutely loved it. Food was delicious, huge portions too! Staff were really accommodating and attentive. Decorated lovely and nice and clean. Will 100% be returning!

Good atmosphere, lovely place in an ideal location next to the sea with delicious food and big portions of chips with the meals. They make wonderful milkshakes with locally sourced icecream and very quick service. No complaints

Fantastic fish and chips x 2! It was a superb plate of food. The customer service was not as customer focused as it should've been, but that didn't mar the 3 hours or so we spent meeting friends.

Nice fish and chip place by the sea. Good selection of drinks in the bar. Ice creams and food menu ok Seafood platter not fresh all deep fried Baked cod was a good alternative for GF Tables wasn’t cleaned down enough and the wait was quite long with only two staff on the til/bar.

Very generous fish and chips, even said I might have ordered too much, instead of just taking my money (I bought it anyway). Ice cream excellent and very generous portions, vegan too and they helped me with ingredients for my child who has allergies. Friendly and welcoming.

We tried to get a pre order on the phone so it was ready for us when we get there and they said no it will be fine. When we got here they said that it will be £10 fr two portions of chips and to make it worse made we stand in the rain.

Did not think anything could compare with fish n chips that comes from the Northeast of England, but this place does. Thick white fish with perfect 'crispy on the outside, soft on the inside' batter. Impressive. Went back again and will visit in the near future. AAA+

We came in a large group and our meals were delivered quickly and efficiently.The food was delicious and were very flavourful.The staff were extremely nice as well! The decor is a lovely beach like vibe.

I just had fish and chips takeaway the chips were absolutely gorgeous, crispy outside and so tasty and plentiful. The fish was so fresh and I actually squeezed the lemon with parsley garnish over it. It brought out the freshness and flavour of that perfectly cooked fish

We stopped here for fish and chips on our holiday. We were told 25 minute wait which was fine as our little boy had ice cream and we had a drink whilst we waited. However, over an hour and 20 minutes later and no food, even though it was just one portion of fish and chips. People who ordered 40 minutes after us received their food at the same time. It seems they had forgotten our order or someone else had taken it but they wouldn't admit it and no apology whatsoever, even though they were surprised we were waiting so long.Shame as the fish and chips were nice but by the time the food came we had to scoff it down as we had an unhappy newborn and bored toddler. Poor service and a real dampener on our day and experience of Portreath.

Portion sizes are mental. No complaints here! Waited for 20 minutes and had the facility to take beer away to enjoy the sunset. Really warm and friendly staff, especially on a Friday night!

We had fish & chips, the piece of fish was so big that I couldn't see the ample chips & plate hidden underneath it. Absolutely delicious. we've here a number of times over the years it just keeps getting better. Well done to all the staff for a friendly welcome & great service.

Did a 4hr hike and ended up at Portreath Beach. Looked in at the Atlantic Cafa Bar, saw it was busy and thought it must be good. Got fish and chips to take away which cost a whopping £12.50. The food was ok however, it was served in a polystyrene container and the oil was dripping out of the box. It really needs to be eaten at the beach or in the cafe itself. So you are eating it immediately. It tastes better that way. The food was basic but for the price I thought was way too expensive. If you sit outside you are facing the carpark and subjected to the constant disturbance from loud, reving motorbikes.

Stopped by for takeaway chips as the smell was incredible. Quickly received the order and they were cold and old. Went back in to ask for a hot portion, told by the older lady behind the till she’d get a fresh batch. Was given the same portion back. They would have been amazing if they were hot. But a fiver for old cold chips is a joke. We live locally so a real shame to be duped.

Had the most fantastic late lunch here on a damp Saturday afternoon. The greeting as we walked in was a nice touch, the staff were all so attentive and constantly checking that we were ok. The food, outstanding! I had tofu in chilli jam on the best fries. The taste was brilliant. Some days you just see something that talks to you on a menu. This did and didn't disappoint.

The rain was pelting down when we found this little oasis of calm. Good beer, delicious food all served by charming, kindly young women. Heartily recommended.

Average rating for a bar out of season, two people with a dog, falafel with beetroot in my opinion too dry, hummus average. However, the fish and chips were one of the best we ate in the UK. Portions of the right size. It's a pity that for a dog-friendly bar, they didn't even offer water to our pet, but there was water on display outside. Overall ok.

Passed this many times but popped in for a coffee and completely seduced by the Eton Mess, at £6.50 for two scoops of ice cream , fruit compote, meringue and cream it was a winner. Lovely friendly staff with a warm welcome on a cold winters day . Will be back.

Fish and chips takeaway was very nice. Good job there. Service wise, not bad. Great sun spot in the afternoon! I've seen this place change over the past 20y from a quaint seaside town cafe into a more modern, polished restaurant. It has lost a bit of its charm along the way but it seems very popular these days.

So looking forward to fish and chips , ordered from the bar don’t know what I paid wasn’t told didn’t look , I was soo hungry waited outside which was fine , got food walked over to car in the car park 10 seconds away couldn’t wait opened lid chips stone cold , I could of cried and cold under the fish , such a shame as it was huuuge and looked beautiful I ate the fish and the chips ended in bin . I should of turned round when the lady gave me them but didn’t ah well moment on lips lifetime on hips .

Food was excellent, portion sizes generous, and the staff were friendly and very quick with food. Would definitely recommend eating here.

On the plus side the fish was decent, the chips much like classic chip shop chips and the portions were good, really could have had one fish and chips between two. However, the servers forgot about us and did not take our order while taking orders from people who came after us. We went up to the counter to order and then they forgot us again and did make our food, requiring us to go up again to ask where our food was. This severely detracted from the experience and meant it took about two hours to get food. I have given a low atmosphere rating mostly because of the amount of crying kids, but appreciate that is largely put of their control. But equally can't give them a good rating when the atmos was pretty horrible.

beautiful warm restaurant a perfect cosy atmosphere after a windy autumn walk on the beach with the dogs . fantastic hot food and drinks served promptly really good prices aswell which suprised me . brilliant customer service and the dogs enjoyed getting warm and having a fresh drink inside . looking forward to another visit too with friends

Me and my daughter had chocolate milkshakes which were basically flavoured milk with cream on top. The milk was not even close to being chilled and it definitely did not have a chocolate taste. At over £5 per drink I was expecting something quite special but was very disappointed. Also, why are they serving using plastic cups. They should be using glass. Not at all environmental friendly. My mum and dad were happy with their pot of tea. We provided feedback when paying and were told the milk is kept it a fridge. Perhaps they should retrain staff or check the fridge is not broken.

Quick service, decent home cooked food and cakes (the portion size of the fish they give you is outstanding!). Can be a bit greasy though so that's the only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5

Slightly chaotic service in low season makes you wonder how bad it can get at busier times.

I ordered four portions of chips with curry sauce. I get down to the beach to eat them and had to go back for my curry sauce that they forgot. The chips were overcooked and greasy. The were terrible. The seagulls didn't even touch the chips they were that disgusting! Totally disappointed 😞

This has got to be by far the worst food iv had, ordered 2 battered sausages and chips with salt and vinegar, No salt and vinegar, greasy and over cooled, tasted awful, sat on the beach and ended up tipping out for the seagulls which hovered above and wouldn't go near them àswell as dogs on the beach who would also not eat them. Very disappointed. Wouldn't eat here again!!

Had the whitebait which was substantial, delicious and filling. In fact I couldn't finish the side order of chips.

Always the best brownies and service is great. We often visit and it is always great. Fair prices and lovely atmosphere.

Came for dinner at 5:30, upon arrival they told us we had to sit at the front of the restaurant because the back was closed already…we didn’t mind but it was strange. Drink/food order took ages just overall the service was very slow. Took 45 minutes for loaded chips & a ‘chicken tortilla bowl’ which in reality is a wrap not wrapped 😂 I should’ve sent it back really! The chicken was so dry, salad was cheap and the wrap was so crispy from being under a lamp I had to leave half of it! For £14 you would expect more! We felt like an inconvenience as they were closing/cleaning up around us. Sorry we didn’t realise you closed at 7:30…maybe if your service was quicker we would’ve been out of your way 😅 all they were bothered about was chatting about who’s going to take more shifts/hours (which none of them seemed keen) odd vibe overall. The actual place is also very dirty, I get it’s by a beach but why are the toilets so rank?

Our visit was off the cuff, and the restaurant staff were also catering for a wake at the same time-service was first rate, considering dealing with the public and a sad event too. Our food (fish and chips, plus divine curry sauce} absolutely mouth watering.........i am the member of public who wanted to purloin the wonderful teapot the tea arrived in....however resisted.....great place, great staff and i can send my address if a teapot needs to be sent xx

I came in just to order a portion of chips for myself. I’ve got greeted by a friendly enough chap who promptly took my order. It was only one portion of chips. Upon paying he just tapped the top of the card machine, partially covering it with his other hand. I asked how much it was. 6 bloody pounds :o I was shocked! I said I only want a small portion and he said it was a standard size, then asking how big this standard size was. He repeated just a standard size. I said okay well can you show me with your hands and it was about the size of a burger box. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s safe to say I told him not to bother. I get the cost of living but £6 for a small box of chips is a serious piss take. The owners must be very very greedy.

Brilliant venue right down on the beach front. Good selection of fish but also other cusine as well. Portion size is generous and the cost is on par with other restaurants locally. Rattler tasted brilliant so clearly lots being sold. Didn't try the desserts but might have to sneak back for one.

This place looks quite unprepossessing from the outside, but inside...oh my... We were there on a stormy day, so the fairy lights were on for cheer. And from their first twinkle, to the mouth-watering menu (with so many vegan and vegetarian options it was a joy) this place had our hearts. The ladies loos were clean, and I could access them on crutches, though you might need a hand if you have greater access needs. The staff were lovely though, so I should imagine whatever you need generally they would try to help with if they could. We were very tempted to come back for supper and the promised live music as well, and probably would have done, had not torrential rain intervened. So if you're in Portreath, I'd recommend to anyone that you give this place a try.
