Good prices and a great Sunday roast

The very last time I was in this pub, was 50 years ago. It was an enigma then and in a small way, remains just the same? Very friendly staff and locals, which in Cornwall is a rare thing. The food portions are huge and VERY popular with the strong, local population. I didn't eat on this visit, but I'll definitely be trying their Sunday roast...it looks astonishing. I'm not sure of the exact year, but I'm guessing 1972ish... and the village was in turmoil when a bull escaped from the local market/abattoir. I was safely ensconced in The Silver Ball, whilst the police were called to deal with the bull. By the way...a pint of Director's real ale is an astonishing £4.20!!! Albeit the abv is now under 4.5%. And while on the subject of ales...it was a real pleasure to watch the landlord cleaning the pipes of his beers. The aforementioned Director's Ale, was absolutely pristine in taste, clarity and presentation. I wish my local pubs had someone with his skillset looking after their cellars and ales. 100% first rate. And this from an ex publican of 18 years. Fantastic value. Highly recommended.

Pay no attention to previous reviews this pub has new owners and has had a re fit, the staff could not have been nicer, the Sunday roast was fantastic. Will definitely be going again.

Always enjoy dropping by the Silver for a pint. Pub is clean, atmosphere is nice and the prices are reasonable. There's a good selection of different beers available.

Friendly local pub. Recently refurbished. Food on Thursdays and a carvery on Sunday. Quiz nights every Monday. Bingo on Wednesdays. Occasional live music. Pool table.

Banging Sunday lunch and warm welcome

Had a Sunday roast with the family. Good choice of meats, sides etc. Staff really helpful and welcoming. Very good value when you consider other pubs charge higher and you get a lot less, we all left feeling very full up. Also doing a takeaway option is such a good idea. We will be going back but.

I am honest person and from my experience the sliver ball pub is positive amazing pub to visit there no negativity (Y) am from newton abbot but my parents have caravan near by :) i visited the sliver ball two night ago from posting the comment :) the atmosphere was very welcoming, everything was clean :) if you want a a good night out i recommend definitely checking out the sliver ball its good pub in the amazing parish of st columb :) i want to say a big thanks you to sliver ball staff for the welcoming :)

The Silver Ball isn’t trying to be an upmarket pub. It’s fine to pop into as you pass but not the kind of pub you’d stay for the day.

Good afternoon in the traditional pub lovely people very friendly

This has to be the greatest pub in the whole of Cornwall. They have a pool table, table football, a big TV with BT sport, bingo and quiz on alternating Wednesday nights, a packed weekend live music calendar and the friendliest of bar staff. What more could you want? I'll tell you. A beer loyalty card, giving you the chance to see off 9 pints and get a free 10th. Who doesn't love a free pint? This pub makes me want to move to St Columb Major so it can become my local.

Awful place, smelt of sewage and there were awful drunk grown men rolling around outside the pub shouting obsenities. Was not the welcome we were looking for!

Always a friendly warm welcome in the Silver Ball. There’s a good rotation of real ales, a great ale loyalty scheme, a swish selection of gins and some great live entertainment. They support the local community beyond providing a great place to meet and have a drink. Will always go to this place whenever I’m in town.

It's got possibilities ! But will need lots of hard work and flare with perhaps a brush up outside ?

Lovely people, good beer, had a buffet supplied by them for 50 people, fab food and very reasonable

New management taken over. Retained current clubs making them very welcome. Open to suggestions from regulars with what they want from the pub.

After pranking a friend with fake parking tickets and the locals in the pub being part of it, we had a great afternoon playing pool. Very friendly bunch and hats of the the land lord and land lady for putting up with us.

Went here the other day for a few drinks with friends and family there was a great band there and all the locals, had the best night and the staff are so friendly and chatty loved it here would highly recommend to everyone

Frecuentado esta pequeña joya varias veces a lo largo de los años y tres veces durante las vacaciones de Navidad. Hay siempre una cálida bienvenida, cervezas y bromas bien cuidado desde el Jolly encargado, señora y su familia. No tuve oportunidad de comer allí, pero me dijeron de que la comida es fantástica, especialmente el gran desayuno frito.

Este es un pub bastante sencillo pero cómodo estándar - no hubo nada particularmente notable, pero no hay nada que no me gustara. Tiene una mesa de billar en uno de los extremos del bar, pero no soy un pub "gastrónomo y tener no distinga no es un pub que atrae a los visitantes por lo que sirve la comunidad local.En una época en que solía servir comidas, pero no había ninguna indicación de que ellos hacerlo ahora, aunque a su crédito hay un anuncio fuera que invita a los clientes a traer llevar comida para disfrutar con una bebida. No es a menudo que ver eso!Aunque hay un par de plazas de aparcamiento en la parte delantera (y en la calle), hay un aparcamiento en la parte de atrás (entrada al lado del pub).

Nice old pub in very quiet town St Columb Major, which has been bypassed by the A39, and by about 50 years. Quite smart inside pub, with yard & garden for smokers and families. Doom Bar plus lagers, ciders, keg beers... Looks like they get quite a young crowd in here. Food in the evening. The name "Silver Ball" marks the annual Town Competition where two teams compete to carry a silver ball across the town.
