So sorry for the low rating. Maybe at 15:30, you're staff are tired. My rating is based on how you made us feel, and staff approach. The barmaid looked stern, and the garden table's was dirty.

Having eaten here many times over a few years, we were taken by surprise by the hiked up food prices and more importantly, the welcome (not!) we received when we walked in. There were a group of “locals” leaning on the bar in what we assumed to be the “snug”, who, when we said hello, just glowered and stared at us as if we were not welcome! The young man behind the bar was very courteous and took our orders for food and served us drinks with a smile. We understand that this establishment has recently changed hands, so that could account for the increase in prices. Our food was very tasty and there was a good choice of drinks, but we won’t be going in again as we felt as though we were trespassing on the “regulars” territory! What these people forget is that without us “foreigners” spending money in Cornwall, they probably would not have a pub to be rude in!

This pub is unlikely to win any awards for its food but if staying locally after a long drive the food served is reasonable pub grub. Its a bit pricey i.e. scampi chips and peas £19. The burger and sausage and mash filled a hold and were quite tasty.

Lovely Cornish pub , food was nice , the lady who served us was also nice . What let’s this pub down is zero atmosphere and it came across as not a very friendly pub , unless you were a local , it was a bit clicky!! And there was an elderly lady ( she doesn’t work there ) that randomly comes up to your table asking if you have finished with your glass/ cutlery etc ( she wasn’t quite with it !! ) she was a nuisance and even came to our table whilst we were eating , made us feel a bit awkward we told the lady that served us and she said she is in here all the time doing this and that they tell her ask her to leave and that she just comes in again but then then she is given half price drinks !! So that doesn’t help to discourage her

Went as a group of 4 for the Wednesday quiz night and dinner. The good stuff: Food was tasty, well presented and served in a timely manner by cheerful, well mannered staff. Drinks were slightly on the pricey side but no more than you would expect in any other holiday area of Cornwall. Other stuff: The quiz was entertaining but it would be difficult to describe it as General Knowledge. More like a music/entertainment quiz with the odd general knowledge question thrown in! We were shown to our table when we arrived and then went to the bar to order some drinks. We were told, quite insistently, that someone would come to our table to take a drinks order. Thought nothing of this, and they were good to their word, the order was taken quickly and drinks arrived promptly, and this continued throughout the evening. When the bill came we were slightly dismayed to find that the 10% service charge had been added to the food AND drinks order which made quite a difference to the bill. I know the service charge is discretionary and, in typical British style, not wanting to make a scene we paid it. It did leave a slightly sour taste though as we had made it clear by our actions that we were quite happy to order our drinks and pay for them at the bar.

We came here for dinner after reading the good reviews. A lovely little pub with friendly and attentive staff. Menu was varied with lots of choice and nice vegetarian options. My friend went for the veggie curry and enjoyed it very much. I had the vegan lasagne which was yummy! We both had the treacle pudding, which I'm not sure if it was homemade but it was certainly very tasty! Reasonably priced food & drinks. Would return and recommend.

We are local but have not been for sometime as we had heard differing reports about it since its been under new ownership. What a very pleasant suprise then to be greeted by friendly attentive bar staff and an interesting range of beers. Food menu is good basic pub food, and aĺl the better for that. We shared a panko prawns starter followed by sausage and mask and a fish pie my wife asked for a side of veg which wss served hot and tasty. Will go again.

Really good size pub, staff were really friendly and took intolerances very seriously. My wife is Gluten free and there was plenty of options available. My wife had the fish and chips, luckily she ordered the small option as it was a very generous portion! I had the fish pie which was fantastic. If you like a good sized meal then this is a must. Lots of positive reviews but I don't see why? Long long wait for food, the portion size was small and the big kicker, they add 10% service charge automatically, no mention of it at all, but it's on the fine print on the bottom of the receipt. I guess they do it that way because after the wait, you would not volunteer it. Disappointing, avoid and go to better places in St ives!

Arrived as a group of five which caused a problem straightaway as tables for a maximum of four. Young man (Joel?) rushed off his feet and tried to sort a table. Asked if games room would be ok but table too small and beside pool table so no room. Ended up outside on picnic table so had to put up with smokers. Before this an older gentleman came to show us to a table of four and when we pointed out we were a group of five he huffed at us and said he couldn’t sort it and walked away. Food - don’t order ‘home made’ curry. Awful. Tepid, soggy, no flavour. Fish and chips were deemed okay until a hair found in it. Drinks - given a wine list. Ordered a Sauvignon - didn’t have any! A pub on a Friday night and no Sauvignon! There’s a Tesco 1 minute away, go and buy a few bottles! Then a 10 minute wait for drinks to be brought to the table. Overall, made to feel unwelcome This , food poor and service below standard . But Joel, you were trying. Perhaps more staff. 2 obviously not enough. Won’t be back. This is the first time I have ever written a poor review which shows how disappointed we were.

Our plan was to have a few beers, play a few games of pool and then have an evening meal, well that didn't happen. First round and the San Miguel was off. We returned this to the bar and reluctantly after tasting it the lad behind the bar replaced it. He replaced it with another larger he tried before serving. The IPA was flat but our other drinks were ok. Obviously aggrieved by this he must have gone to tell the owner and he announced himself by speaking to us in a very kurt and rude manner. Well his manner sealed the deal for us and we left after finishing our drinks. We moved up to the Gannet and had a super evening. Never again you arrogant .... The last time we were in this pub was 1998 watching England play when some Plymouth fans wrecked the joint afterwards, i thought it was because England lost but maybe it was the landlord?

We booked this by email yesterday as their website asks for Sunday lunch at 1300 today. We received the reply that it was all booked fine. We arrived at 12:50 and they seemed a bit awry. Said hold on a minute we are just checking a table then came back and said they were fully booked and tried to put us on a tiny round beer table in the bar with just enough room for two very small plates and just room for a little stool to sit on on one side. We are 70 and cannot, nor want to sit on a bar stool for Sunday lunch when restaurant tables were there but they would not sit us at one, although many were not taken at that point. Utterly useless. No apologies or anything, the young girl just said they were fully booked and we pointed out, yes and we were booked also. She then made the excuse that she was not there yesterday, as if that makes a difference. Steer clear as it was difficult to find anywhere else without going in to St Ives. Numpties!

Fantastic evening spent at The Cornish Arms. Nathaniel was a fantastic host and everyone loved their meals…The mussels were amazing. (Thai style/coconut) We will definitely be back when next in the area. Thank you.

The Red River Inn is a lively, welcoming establishment, in the midst of Storm Darragh it provided a warm comfortable haven from the storm. The landlord is very friendly and accommodating. The food is excellent (compliments to the chef). There is a wide range of ales and lagers, many of them local, as you would hope. Thank you for looking after us, the dogs enjoyed their treats. We hope to return before too long..

The food really is excellent and the range of desserts quite outstanding. The service was very good, and everyone friendly and helpful. Very popular and rightly so.

Genuinely The very best fish and chips we’ve ever had, and all other food was spot on as well!!! I’d say this is a must visit spot for food if anywhere near here with family
