Portreath Beach Cafe in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Visited Portreath beach cafe today and after years of looking I had a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows that was actually hot! Great value at 2pounds and with a large tea cake smothered n butter again for 2pound bargain. My friend had a small cheesy chips and to quote her, wow , what would large look like! Thank you Portreath Beach cafe, thoroughly enjoyed.

£12.50 for sub-standard fish and chip takeaway. Fish was not fresh, batter was overcooked. Taking the p*** because they're the only ones for miles.

As you will see from my previous reviews dating back many years my parents absolutely loved visiting this little beach cafe and we probably went most days . However, first few visits this week and we noticed the prices had gone up quite a lot but that is not our complaint .our complaint is with regards the new staff/owners who do not seem to be very customer friendly . Today we visited and one of the burgers had a great big long hair inside which actually made me feel sick especially in these times where extra care should be taken . Again these things happen but it was the actual response from the lady who now seems to be in charge instead of an apology she shouted quite loudly that’s it referring to the hair didn’t belong to them. The hair in question was a very long one and three of ladies there all have long hair all in our party have short hair. What a shame that these people are not approachable like the last people and they can not even give an apology for a problem from a customer who has been visiting for many years . We did say we didn’t want anything back from them but an apology would have been nice .

Nice visit on a autumn day for a lovely bacon butty and a cup of tea. Good value for money and a great view.

To be honest we didn’t expect a great deal as we walked up to the front door. Inside the cafe looked fab with loads of tables. It was fairly busy and the service was excellent. We had a couple of coffees followed by beef burger and chips which was excellent and my wife had beetroot/falafel burger which was fantastic. Finished off with an ice cream. 10/10 all round.

We loved the fact you can get breakfast all day and the baps are great value with lots of filling! Chief was very accommodating. We will be back

A lovely naughty treat on the morning of our departure, sitting outside in the sunshine munching on freshly cooked breakfast baps. We had a complicated order, but the owner didn't make a fuss and all arrived as ordered. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped for a cuppa on a 5 mile walk. Tea & coffee were very good. Service was excellent - very friendly & offered to help me carry the 3drinks out to the table. Good pit stop

Excellent fish and chips,new head chef we were told ,best I have had ,really scrummy fish and moist chips ,that don't stick have way down .

We stopped off for some wave watching, breezy and found this little beach cafe down the steps to the beach on the right. Lovely little find, outside tables right overlooking the beach .

Only had a coffee but it was quick and good coffee, not too expensive either. Saw others eating and food looked good and tasty. Brilliant location in the wall right as you go down to the beach views from here are great... Give it a try

I’m a coffee addict, you could say a coffee snob... but damn this little cafe built into the sea wall with picnic benches overlooking the beach serves some of the best fresh coffee I’ve had all week! The breakfast butties are pretty special too. If you get chance to stop here for an hour to watch the waves and have a cuppa it is well worth the effort! Enjoy!

Great little cafe. Enjoyed sitting outside eating our bacon butty looking out over the beautiful Portreath beach. The young lad in there makes a smashing cup of tea too.

Lovely friendly service - we instantly felt welcome. Free parking on the hill with access to the beach or a sizeable car park just above the beach. Good ice creams.

A friend and I often go on a little ride on our motorbikes and we always make sure we finish up in Portreath to get a cup of coffee. Great views of the waves and very good prices. Would highly recommend.

Friendly staff, swift service, good location. This makes for a good place to stop off for a bite to eat or a drink when visiting Portreath's pleasant beach.

Ideally located right next to the beach with a good selection of food & drinks at reasonable prices. We unknowingly went just before closing but they offered to keep the kitchen open, which we thought was great service! Very friendly staff and good coffee.

great little cafe, very good prices and a nice choice of snacks available. A great place to sit and watch the sea rolling in and the choppy waves crashing over the harbor wall. Nice to chill and free your mind

An exciting hot chocolate and great chips. An excellent place in winter or summer with a cosy fire and good reasonably priced food. Our only reservations were about the lady’s loos. Just not really nice enough and a tad smelly

We came out of the Tate straight in to this lovely restaurant although it was very busy we were served promptly and the staff were very attentive. We had mixed orders my husband had baby squid which was amazing he said and I had the frittata and salad which was just scrummy so I would definitely recommend and very reasonably priced with a fabulous view of the beach what more could you ask for . Thanks guys for a good job

Lovely staff. Made some great cheesy chips even on a day they weren’t serving food. No complaints. Nice atmosphere. Friendly welcoming staff.

A quick stop in Portreath to see the beach, it was around lunchtime on a Sunday afternoon. It was busy, but we were able to sit and our order was taken quickly... However, we were not warned about the 45 minutes wait on food. We don't mind waiting, so long as we know we have to wait. My children were getting restless, other diners were in the same boat as us and looking around for their orders to arrive, disappointment all over them as the next table was served!

Really great beach cafe right on the beach by main car park, the cafe is down a few steps and you sit outside overlooking the beach. Very friendly staff. Full breakfast with a drink for £6.00 was really really good. Will be back plenty during our stay here. Thanks

This little cafe is perfect for something to eat or drink while in front of a beautiful view. We had lovely breakfast baps admiring the beach. Good options and prices.

Took lunch here today as we had been before and enjoyed it. Today we arrived after a large group of school students were ordering. That said we did not have to wait long.

This place is such good value for money and does a really good breakfast. My family and I were in Poetreath for three days and came here every morning. The sausage and egg bap was particularly good!

Had a wonderful quick family lunch at the Beach Cafe before spending the rest of the afternoon on the beach. You simply can't beat it. Great food in a Great location

This small cafe is more of a hut under the car park. Until you go down the steps towards the beach, you won't even see it. Food is basic but freshly cooked and good value. There is no seating inside but plenty outside giving wonderful views over the beach towards the sea. Not always open out of season.

Great cafe super good value hot and cold food. Lovely coffee and the owners are so friendly we visit with friends and family every week to eat good food and treat ourselves to an amazing view! 100% our favourite lunch venue that will not disappoint or break the bank.

Grab yourself a tea for a bargain price of £1. Perfect for walking along the beach with! Also serves coffees and other snacks. Inc delicious sweet potato fries.

We love to walk along the beach first thing in the morning and its great to have a coffee at this beach cafe always friendly and welcoming and on cooler day a hot drink watching the waves is just perfect

Only 10 minutes from our house but nice to sit by the beach with a cuppa or a bowl of chips! Good prices and good food!

Not long moved to Cornwall, this is my local beach, the cafe is great! Reasonably priced and the food is really tasty with decent portions! Nice little seating area overlooking the sand and sea.

The small Café is directly on the beach. There is an outdoor - sitting area. They offer snacks, coffee and refreshments.

We visit this cafe with my parents when we are on holiday in Portreath, burgers, hot dogs, chips or full english right by the beach with a great view. Definitely not fine dining but everything nice and reasonably priced, staff always pleasant.

The Best views in Portreath for food an amazing little sun trap , with plenty of outside eating or takeaways . Good for Breakfast , lunch , or just drinks . Lovely coffees

great place to grab a bite whilst walking the dogs along the beach or stop for some lunch if your here for longer.we have had the chips and burgers, hot drinks are served in proper mugs! none of these awful travel mugs that make brus taste horrid. i look forward to visiting every time i go.

Lovely friendly place to sit and have coffee and watch the sea. The breakfasts are excellent too. I like to sit here on sunny days out of season. It's always busy in the summertime and is run by some lovely friendly people.

Good clean establishment with really nice staff. Sometimes the wait is too long but the products are a high quality.

Having decided on a Sunday morning walk on the beach at Portreath we then stopped for a coffee here - lovely coffee, great service and fabulous views across the beach..everything you could want for a coffee stop.

Hadn't eaten here for years and it just used to be a very ordinary fish and chip cafe. Now it is a very smart but reasonably priced restaurant with very friendly staff and a good menu. You can still get fish and chips, but there is also a good choice of baguettes and light bites. Very nice, I will return!

Fantastic place to sit and watch the waves whilst enjoying a well priced coffee and sandwich. Food ok, coffee lovely service great. All in all very good value, with a wonderful view.

A must if you are visiting the beach. Famous cheesy chips. Great for keeping the kids fed. Good quality reasonably priced food. Staff are friendly and love a bit of banter.

Great little cafe, right on the beach. My nieces (10 & 11)first visit, said they were the best vacon butties ever, due to the amount of bacon!!!Prices are great along with the staff! Always good whatever time of year!Highly recommended.....

Found portreath beach cafe on our travels. Been wanting a crab sandwich all week, but refused to pay the prices charged in the rest of Cornwall (approx £9) could not believe the cost was £4.95 and what a sandwich, fresh granary bread, crisps and a small salad the crab was plentiful.

We looked for a nice restaurant, seeing this was a "Cafe" we thought we would give it a go, and so glad we did, we had not reserved a table but were given one straight away, the staff were great and provoded a really good service. The food was not what we expected, we choose the tapas and it was really tasty and a pleasant surprise. Would recommend this to anyone. Booking may be advisable in high season.

Best cheesy chips in Portreath, can't get your food much closer to the beach if you tried. Roger and rich make the magic happen.

Open most days I believe. Friendly staff and great way to have a hot drink and watch the waves. Food is basic but reliable. Go for the relaxed local atmosphere. Not at all pretentious or posh. Is a take us as you find us experience I imagine for the locals as much if not more than the tourists. Area is expanding with lots of new builds so hope retains its character

Cycled from Devoran on the cycle trail (Tramway), 20 mile s return, well worth doing...I digress, we stopped at the Beach cafe for a really great tea. would have eaten but we were in a hurry to get back. I rate it 4 because i have been here before and had the 'all day breakfast' which is amazing. Nice lady serving and great views. Great to see a small business doing well. Will return soon for sure.

We visited here a couple of times during our stay in portreath and really enjoyed this little cafe. Great views and tasty food.

Love this place. Cheap and cheerful. Would stay away from the sausages personally but the rest of the food is good and the tea and coffees are priced to fit any pocket. Very Cornish and all the better for it - long may it thrive. On the long car journey down this is my holiday start breakfast in Cornwall - tradition.

Spent a lovely afternoon at portreath beach today .the tide was out so spent time with children in the rock pools caught loads of fish and different things , the beach is so nice easy access end sandy the beach cafe is good for a cuppa and snacks there is also a toilet over the road a very pleasant place to be

Really pleased to find that a cafe in such an idyllic place was still charging normal if not below average prices for cups of coffee and butties etc. I know it wasn't lobster but for a bowl of chips and a cup of coffee it came to £2.70. I think they could charge 3 times as much as that and people would still pay. Put a smile on my face.

A cup of coffee priced like a cup of coffee should be priced, Cheesey Chips that don't break the bank, but fill the gap. And friendly (but busy) staff. Combined with the seating directly over the beach. H-O-L-I-D-A-Y mode achieved.

We visited here a couple of times when staying in Portreath. Situated almost on the beach it is very handy to pop into for drinks or a snack. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are very friendly and chatty. If you are in portreath and want a drink or a snack you can't go far wrong if you visit this cafe.

We've been to Portreath beach cafe on many occasions and always feel that we have had an excellent snack. Apart from the good food,you also get a fantastic view of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. I would defineatly recommend anybody to visit when on the beach of Portreath.

Went back as it WAS my favourite its place to go! What has happened? It has gone so down hill. Went on my birthday - the service was very poor and so was the food. The waitress dumped our food on the table. Never spoke. Had to go to the bar and ask for condiments, which didn't go down very well. When I popped to the loo, a male member of staff whispered to the said waitress and she smirked! How uncomfortable! Change of staff needed! (esp the girl with dark curly hair and the small bloke with blue eyes and a beard!!)

Great place to have a snack with great views.The bacon baps were very good with plenty of bacon.All the seating is outside but that is why you are on the beach !

Great value, great service and great food, best parts were meeting Bella the dog, the Exeter fan who wants to be a Yid supporter! Who I guess is STILL waiting for the electric board to com come and change his meter!!Fantastic place!!! Defo recommend IT to anybody walking past

This is a basic no frills beach cafe, but it has excellent tea, coffee, sandwiches, chips, breakfasts etc at great prices and served with a smile right on the beach -

I sent my husband to check what hot food was available - even then I said lid love a chip butty. Off he went and came back with a toasted bap filled with chips and extra round it - which he had as mine were overflowing! It was hot and fresh. He had a sausage in a roll and said it was delicious. The man in the cafe was more than happy to oblige with the request. Nice and clean too

We were recommended this establishment by a café in Truro, and it certainly did not disappoint. They were the best fish and chips we've had in a long, long time. The beach was clean, the café was busy, yet the food was cooked to perfection.A gem to be remembered.

On our last day we decided to eat out for breakfast/brunch before setting off home and being able to sit virtually on the beach eating a full English was great.

We travelled from Newquay several times to a super beach and village. The cafe is fantastic. Reasonably priced which made us use it even more. A mug of tea was £1. Very friendly staff, who remembered us from previous days. Got very busy, such the quality and value for money. Used by many of the locals as well, but service did't suffer.Thanks for helping to make our holiday. We will be back!

Chose the beach café as they had a wider range of food than the chippy. Can't fault the staff. Really pleasant and helpful. Had to wait 20+ minutes for food but it was freshly prepared to order and I was told in advance of the wait.

This has to be my favourite view of the beach, over a mug of tea and a bacon sandwich. I was worried the storms might have shut it down, but open for business as usual!
