The best restaurants serving British food in Wokingham South East

My wife and I had an absolutely superb evening at the Dog and Duck in Wokingham. A clean, tidy, warm and very hospitable atmosphere. All of the food was yummy scrumpy delicious and the staff very attentive and friendly. Given the very high standards all round, and its central location in Wokingham, I can’t believe the excellent value for money. We will definitely be going back again and again… why wouldn’t you!

I have been to this restaurant about 4 times before and have enjoyed their lunches and dinners. Great in summer to sit outside and have a white wine which enjoying some sun. Also really nice inside for cosy dinners -big shout out to Daniel for great service and made us feel welcome. Hosted my friend's surprise birthday party in the last visit- the food was good and the service was excellent. Big shout to Renata who made sure we were taken care of.

Amazing place. Lovely food, good choice and exceptional staff (especially Matt 👏👏). Staying at hotel itself, so we had lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal. Highly recommended 👍👍

Fantástico pan de masa agria y aguacate. Personal amable y un ambiente concurrido. Nos aseguraremos de volver y probar el almuerzo la próxima vez.

Went in for a drink on Christmas eve. Got a table in the back which was OK bit bright and bland. Took a while to get served as only 1 person serving, so not their fault, when we did get served asked for 2 different glasses white wine and one was not available, which happens but we heard this happen with other customers with different drinks, one person walked out as he asked for several different drinks and they had none. We overheard the staff complaining as we were near to the bar about not having certain drinks available. The place seemed to lack any management and obviously stock. After this experience we would not go back.

My daughter booked and paid a deposit for a Mother’s Day meal, we arrived on time, clearly they were surprised to see us and had no table in the restaurant set for us, they grabbed a chair from another table and sat us at a bar table, not a dining table. I asked to move as it was cold, they put us at another table in the bar which wasn’t set for a Mother’s Day meal! No one advised us that they had practically nothing left on the menu! When they came 25 minutes later to take the order they only had 2 things left on the menu! Non of which was what we wanted. They said they were surprised how busy it had been and were unable to predict what people would order therefore they had hardly anything left! Considering it was 18:30pm on Mother’s Day and a deposit had been paid for all bookings I would have thought they should have enough food to feed the people that had booked! Needless to say we didn’t stay, we were very disappointed with the service, the choice and the overall visit! They refunded the deposit and gave us a glass of wine and a soda water on the house (they thought they were doing us a favour!) We left and visited the Shire Horse down the road who considering it was Mother’s Day and very last minute they were so accommodating and the food was amazing with lots of choice, I will never go back to the Bird in Hand!

VERY POOR Way too expensive. Used to be a great pub with music on Sunday afternoon in garden . Garden is a mess £8 per pint it’s dead really sad place now.

Nice Saturday afternoon in the snug with family. Very nice atmosphere, only had a bowl of chips, but they were piping hot and nicely cooked.

Brilliant fish and chips! The quality of both the fish and the batter is great. One of the best in the area, from my experience! Chips are good too…

Dinner was nice but the slow service made the meal a bit of a bore to be honest. Breakfast on the other hand because it was buffet style was a pleasure and the ingredients all good quality. Looked like understaffed dining room was the problem with only one lady rushed off of her feet taking orders and clearing tables. Value was decent at £30 pp for a three course meal although the obligatory supplements were added if you wanted steak or lamb. Love the hotel but probably would seek to eat dinner out next time.

Fish and chips were terrible - chips uncooked, batter and fish had no taste £17.50 what a waste of money- the shop should be shut down
