Came hear with friends as had heard that the food was amazing, when we got there we were told we were ok to order only for a few minutes later to be told the chef had gone home, this was still quite a while before their advertised time at which they stop serving food, in addition their pints are more expensive than central London unfortunately this once great pub has now become one to avoid

Nice enough pub. Cracking garden which is a real sun trap. However, £5.90 for a Wychwood 4.5% ale is expensive even for Wokingham.

Long time since last visit, was nice to revisit. Staff friendly, good choice of ale and especially fond of old chairs/sofa with fire tucked away in the corner.

Arrived soon after opening and were the only customers. Lovely old, low beamed pub serving a variety of ales, including some local brews ie Elusive and Siren. Si, our now favourite barman, drew a freshly tapped Elusive Pin-ball Mild. Great.

A warm welcome, precautions in place and the place is looking fresher after lockdown. Sun trap garden still one of the best in town. Private room available for up to 12 people at very reasonable rates ..

Friendly bar staff, some slightly eccentric ... Sun trap garden and a decent range of well kept beer. Worth a try.

I came here for a drink with my wife after work and we were not made to feel at all welcome by the decidedly bored staff. We did not go back there. Cannot recommend that pub .

I bet you thought I was going to write a put down sort of review. But you can't be more wrong. This is just the affectionate name we gave to the best pub in Wokingham. Like some people say 'Bad' for 'Good'. Such a friendly traditional pub with excellent beer, a darts board, sofas, a beer garden. Some accommodation for those who need it after all the beer. As I said, best pub in Wokingham by far.

We live in Bracknell which suffers from a severe shortage of decent Pubs. The Hope and Anchor is a great little gem and the quiz night is awesome. Will be looking forward to our next visit.

If you want the good old pub experience then the Hope and Anchor delivers. It's got good beer to choose from, has darts, a juke box and a nice garden. If you want more of a night out then go when a live band is playing. I've seen several hard rock tribute bands play and it's always a good laugh. Definitely recommend.

The food has always been amazing here, if you like Thai food, you should give this place a try. If you’re lucky like we were last time we went you may get a chance to put a team into their pub quiz. The staff are polite and attentive, plenty of parking and food it excellent.

This is a well maintained, clean and comfortable accommodation with nicely decorated rooms, great staff, and beautiful flowers outside. I would note that the lighting in the room and bathroom is fairly low and the only outlet in the bathroom is for an electric razor. Also, the bathtub is on the higher side with no grab bars which can be a challenge for those of us who are getting older. There could be more area for storage in the bathroom for personal products. We would definitely recommend this motel and stay there again. There were several options for breakfast and it was delicious and the service was fantastic!

My wife and I went to The Stables to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We got married at Cantley House Hotel (the hotel linked to The Stables) and have been coming back to eat in the restaurant for our major anniversaries. We booked for a Friday evening as it was just one day after our actual anniversary. We need not have booked - the restaurant was almost completely empty - not a good sign. The menu does not seem to have changed from when we came five years ago, apart from the more gastro-pub additions of burgers and pizzas. The main part of the menu does not offer a huge selection. When we first came to the restaurant, it was in the fine-dining category - now it's definitely aiming lower. There was nothing wrong with the food per se, although my wife's chicken dish was in serious need of a splash or three more of the sauce. Avoid the deconstructed coconut cheesecake - style over substance. The service was efficient, but not very friendly. The worst part of the dining experience was that the staff started setting up for the next day's breakfast at about 20:30, right in the middle of our dinner. It made us feel like we were in the way of them getting their job done. I appreciate that this is a hotel restaurant and they had a lot of people to cater for the next morning (the hotel was full), but we came to eat dinner, not breakfast! I mentioned the Anniversary on the OpenTable reservation, but no mention of this was made by the staff. In all, we were disappointed how The Stables and Cantley has changed and we have decided that we won't be coming back for future Anniversaries.
