Booked in here and had our evening meal which I have to say looked quite expensive compared to other places BUT we both have to say it's one of the best meals we've ever had at a B&B it was fabulous, taste, presentation, service all first class. Highly recommend it. Our room was good and breakfast was lovely. Staff very friendly and a lovely place. Highly recommend staying

From the moment you arrive you are welcomed with a smile. It’s the staff that make this hotel. We were there for 3 nights food on all nights was excellent. The service is a little slow but that’s a great excuse to try out the many beers they have on offer😂

Our second stay in less than 12 months. No complaints the first time but this time was a real let down. The bedroom was fine but the bathroom was shocking. The walls were filthy, the shower cubicle was unclean and full of limescale but the most disappointing was the fact that the shower was unusable as the water was scalding. The temperature gauge didn’t work at all and the water was too hot to even put your hand under. A pathetic apology was offered when we mentioned it. There won’t be a third visit. After paying £150 for one night, I’d expect to be able to shower.

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this review. After very many years of exquisite impeccable delicious Sunday lunches, todays was a complete flop. Cold, poor ingredients: both for the vegetarian and the meat eater. The previous chef was fantastic and equally surpassed the only other excellent Sunday dinner in town: ours!!! If you want to stay open get a replacement chef, bring back the crispy roast (NOT rosemary) potatoes, the Carrott purée, the fat less roast beef, the delicious veggie Pithivier, the maple roasted parsnip, the proper gravy (not dishwater thin and flavourless one you served us and remember it’s supposed to be a hot roast dinner not Luke warm!! )After numerous satisfying delicious Sunday dinners … sadly we won’t be back…. Until it improves…..What a terrible shame!!!

I was very impressed with how management dealt with out original complaint about a previous visit. My family were invited back for another Sunday lunch entirely complimentary on the house. The service was superb and the food was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and all of us enjoyed the food that we got on this visit. Happy to tell our family and friends how well customer service was taken by this team and how enjoyable the food was. Thank you to all the team on Sunday in particular Becky and Zoe. It made our 35th anniversary celebration really special.

Great Sunday lunch with family. This pub is massive and great to have Sunday Roast with some space around you all. Service was great, Car park was spacious and food was very good. I have nothing bad to say about my experience and the whole visit.

The Bird in Hand is a lovely place to stay, somewhere to enjoy both dinner in the evening and Sunday lunch too! We stayed 2 nights and held our Golden Wedding celebration in their beautiful function room, as this was our wedding reception venue 50 years ago! We also had a large table for a family dinner the evening before our party and this meal was delicious and beautifully presented by courteous, friendly staff. Our party the following day was perfect, with a superb meal where everyone was presented with 3 courses of beautifully arranged plates of food! Zoe and her team did a wonderful job ensuring that our event ran smoothly and that everyone had a great time. Our guests certainly left leaving plenty of compliments! A big thank you to Zoe, Suzy, and Carrie for all your help in organising our very special day! We will definitely be booking in for the next big anniversary celebration.... it would be sooner if we didn't live abroad!!

Today we had a family lunch for 8no persons. Food took an hour to arrive when it did 2no pork dishes were inedible and were sent back. The remaining Sunday roasts we had with the exception of the vegetarian dish was at best pathetic. Little or no vegetables sloppy. Yuk. The beef portions were very small to the point that they should not be on the plate. Roast potatoes were tasteless and hard. The overall food was probably microwaved. We ordered dessert which again was slop. The ice cream was melted, the strawberry dish just gew. Drinks very expensive. The meals that were inedible were replaced with chicken which was much improved and they did take the cost of the meals off the bill, hence why the 2 stars, otherwise this would be zero. Overall SLOP. Don’t go eat elsewhere.

Our suite was absolutely beautiful. Furnishings were gorgeous, bed was comfy, complementaries and minibar items were really good. Bath and shower were fantastic Had a great nights sleep. The front of staff however let the hotel down. Totally disinterested, sarcastic, cold, unhelpful and actually plain rude. We waited 50 minutes for a ‘soft brioche bacon bun’ this morning (see photo) The woman that served it banged the plates down hard on the table and walked off. The bun was totally inedible and rates as the worst breakfast I have ever been served. When we checked out of the hotel this morning, the 2 middle aged women front of staff (one of which had served our breakfast) were at the bar, drinking coffee and on their phone. No acknowledgement WHATSOEVER that we were standing 5 yards away from them!! We asked if we just leave our room key on the bar? ‘Yes’ one snapped. Appalling. I work as a manager in a public sector service and there is no way I would let these two women be in a meet and greet role in my workplace. They appear either to be either completely burnt out from their job or just hate working there. Such a shame. I will not be returning anytime soon.

Friendly courteous staff, well equipped comfortable room. However let down by our evening dinner experience average fish and chips, long wait times between courses, truffle fries saturated with truffle oil.

We booked for 11 - a family group - and sat down at 8pm. We ordered and those that had starters received them almost 60 min later. The main courses arrived at 9:40 pm and apart from the fish & chips, the rest were one worse than the other. Sweetcorn gnocchi 🙄 probably made most Italian grandmas roll in their graves! The burgers were tough, overcooked and the buns were like biscuits. The chicken thighs dish was so sad with only 2 tiny bits of meat and 4 inedible charred chorizo sausages. We should have realised it was a bad evening when the first beer arrived and it was sour. Gordon Ramsey would have closed the kitchen down.

The room we were allocated was lovely, couldn't fault it, there is a nice outside area for a drink, dinner was fine but the herb crusted cod had too much herbs on it for me. Breakfast was ok but my husband had to ask for a replacement egg as his was seriously over cooked. Over all a good stay

Stayed overnight after spending time with family at Legoland which isn't too far away (10ish miles) before venturing further South into Dorset. Really friendly team, great easy check in and check out. Lovely room and nice, home cooked breakfast! Would highly recommend for a stopover, would have loved to spend some time in their hidden beer garden out the back.

Served my daughter raw chicken, food average at best and over priced. The bar maid was nice but was left in a difficult position as they didn’t have key items from the menu, like mashed potato. Lots of potential but won’t be going back

Food was nice and service was good. However, I only noticed we had been given the wrong bill after we had left. I have used the "contact us" option in the website but no-one has bothered to get back to me to try and correct this.

Hmmm … what was my favourite part of our overnight stay? The long winter walk in the woodland behind the pub before lunch? Warming up on our return with a pre-dinner glass of wine in front of the log fire? The amaaaaazing roast dinner and pud? (crispiest roasties ever, tender meat, good variety of veg). The afternoon kip while watching an old film in our room after lunch? For that matter, the comfy bed and beautiful dog-friendly room? The welcoming, friendly staff when we woke up and ventured back to the bar for a cheese board and a night cap? The delicious breakfast (tasty fresh mushrooms, good quality sausages & bacon, and HOMEMADE baked beans and artisan bread toast)? On checking out, the very reasonable price for the lovely stay and delicious food? Ok, I’ve made my decision, I think it was the roast dinner – best one I’ve had in a long time. Thank you Bird in Hand and Butcombe Inns for a really lovely stay. We will be checking out and visiting your other pubs if this is the excellent standard 🏆🥇👏

We used the private dining area for a family Sunday roast to celebrate my 50th birthday. The day was perfect, staff amazing and the food was without doubt one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had. We also stayed in the family room overnight and the accommodation was just as good The room was spotless and had every attention so detail that you could want for.

This is a very well presented pub/hotel. Our room was a decent size and tastefully decorated. There is a decent range of beers and wines at reasonable prices.The rooms sit over the pub but there is no noise (except for the odd car door and farewell shouts).Breakfast was 5*.Clean hotel, courteous staff.

It was 7pm, when I went to the bar, I was a guest at the hotel and a woman at the bar refused to serve me, I admit I had a few glasses of wine, but not in a state to he refused a drink. . My niece was told to leave cos she was too loud apparently. I have never been refused a drink at a bar in my life. What a rude woman. I left without complaining but am doing so now. We were not roudy at all. If I was I would not be posting this. The beds are comfortable but the bathroom silicone had a lot of mould. Well for breakfast.. Bacon like cardboard, sausage was flavoursome but the skin was so tough cos it had been kept warm for so long. The worst was a bacon sandwich for my father. It was so dry he could not eat it. We looked in between the bread and there was such a smidgen of butter the bread just fell away from the cardboard bacon and he could not eat it. We'll for a 122 pound a night never again.

Very helpful and courteous staff. Clean and comfortable room and tastefully furnished throughout. We enjoyed an evening meal and breakfast and would definitely like to return for a longer stay.

Well located for exploring Henley on Thames, Marlow and Maidenhead. The luxury rooms named after birds are spacious, well appointed and worth the extra cost. The meals are very good. The food is well prepared and the surroundings what you would want from a country pub. Large car park and a petrol station next door.

A great place to stay if visiting Windsor, Henley-on-Thames and London. The Bird in Hand did no disappoint us whatsoever, from initial booking and throughout our stay. We were made to feel very welcome, the manager and his staff were so accommodating and friendly. The bedroom was so comfortable, there was everything you needed. The room was replenished every day with bottled water, biscuits tea etc and fresh towels too. Couldn’t fault the breakfast and the evening meal. Will definitely be going back there!

Haven’t been here since their refurbishment which was quite some time ago. It’s definitely a more pleasant environment but there’s a strange odour in the bar area which would benefit greatly from having some scented diffusers around the place. Perhaps it needs more airflow or to have all the windows and doors flung open in the mornings before guests arrive.

Called in yesterday, been before. Excellent sea bass fillets with olives and sauteed potatoes. Very nice beans, well cooked all round. Also had the chicken burger with fries and veg. Very good. Service excellent. Nice warm dining area on a chilly late afternoon. Wadsworths IPA well kept and a nice full pint. Good Sauvignon Blanc for the lady.

Having lived in Twyford for many years we were very nervous to return after many years to host a special birthday party for our old neighbours SERVICE FOOD COST Excellent

We called in completely by chance one freezing cold Sunday lunchtime, and were greeted by a warm log fire, and friendly staff. We all ordered traditional Roast Chicken Dinners. The huge plates arrived laden with chicken, and a very generous, and tasty, selection of veg and trimmings. Delicious ! We all ordered different desserts - and they were all knock your socks off great ! (And I don't usually like puds !!). We had a lovely relaxing Sunday lunchtime and would not hesitate to go back. Incidentally, when I opened this trip adviser page to write my review - I was shocked to see the extremely negative remarks some other people had left. All I can say is our experience was absolutely nothing like their's - all three of us loved our Sunday lunchtime here and would not hesitate to return.

Overall experience of the food served at this hotel is very poor. Friday night meal was as follows in our group, over cooked rare steak with soggy chips, very greasy fish and soggy chips with something green and runny in a pan. I think this was supposed to be peas but looked revolting. Third meal was a burger which was not very nice and nothing like burgers eaten elsewhere and again soggy chips. No-one asked whether our meals were okay which is normal practice in restaurants. Did ask for a sweet but was told this wasn’t possible due to ovens being needed for something else. Breakfast was undercooked sausages and over cooked eggs. Very runny beans and certainly not Heinz as advertised. Asked for poached eggs again the following morning to be served something white and yellow that was so rock hard it got left on the plate. Played safe and just had cereal and toast on final

Advertised was Friday night is steak night so you think the chef would know how to cook them. I asked for a rare steak got a medium to well done one with limp soggy chips.

First time here for a number of years. Was not disapointed. Very good range of ales and the menu was extensive and very reasonably priced. Service was very good

We stayed here overnight with cousins from USA. It is competitively priced, with so many little extras included in the price. The room was extremely clean & extremely comfortable. We were very happy with the whole experience & felt it made a good impression on our American cousins. The location is good for visiting Windsor or London, but you feel you are in the country. Will certainly stay again if in the area. I opted to have scrambled

We arrived about 8.45 and last orders are 9.00. The vegetable tagines we ordered tasted lovely but one portion had no vegetables other than some onion and tomato and was impossible to eat with a fork. The flatbread and couscous were very dry. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely. One of the staff reduced the bill for us which was appreciated.

The standard of service has slipped (and I cant blame young inexperienced staff) but the quality of food remains high... We ordered starters that never arrived (staff never mentioned this) just straight on with main course & waited so long for the dessert order to be taken that we just paid and left, going further down the road for dessert and coffee... No apology, nothing... not even a gooddbye...

To start with the waiting staff( gentleman) had no interest in us the customers. We stood at the bar for ages before we were even acknowledged, He then proceeded to take our order after waiting 1.5 hours! He definitely had no interest at all and we wondered at the time what we would end up with as he didn’t seem to have a clue.The food eventually arrived at such long intervals some had finished before the other dinners arrived. When they did arrive, I can honestly say it was the worst roast dinner myself and the other dinners have experienced.

The chap that took our order offered a large or small Sunday roast we choose the large option.

Wir hatten Tajine mit Taboule und einen Burger mit Pommes. Der Burger war frisch und Medium gemacht und mit wunderbaren glasierten Zwiebeln, sehe zu empfehlen! Die Bierauswahl ist groß.

The Manager provided a terrible service. I over heard her talking rudely about our children which I was extremely upset about and she didn’t even apologise.

Well I must say reading your reveiws below you were lucky to even get a meal. I tried booking for 30 people for a Tuesday evening meal. I was shown a lovely private room we could use and it was free for the date we wanted. The landlady promised she would email me a menu within a few days. A week later I had not heard so rang and she apologised and promised I would have the menu with a couple of hours. Two weeks later and still nothing, so I have gone somewhere else that obviously wants the business. I was really disappointed as it looks a lovely pub and the private room was a real bonus.

The menu was varied and had a lot of gluten free meals on it. The food was superb and well worth the money. I woudl recommend this place to others as the food was so good.

Family get-together celebration, in a family friendly country pub with very good quality food, excellent coffee and first class service.

We had Sunday lunch 3 weeks ago and it was just perfect. Service a little bit and miss but we weren’t in a rush. The beef was cooked to perfection and rest of meal very good too. We then visited last weekend when family visited and again excellent meal, but again service very hit and miss. Will definately be back.

Service was poor and not impressed with the meal. Waited a long time and was told that they had misplaced our order. They served the roast beef on top of the vegetables which is not nice. They do the roast potatoes in garlic which surprised us, as my husband is not keen on garlic and it did not say that on the menu....not good. Not everyone wants garlic with their food and certainly not a roast. Not a very good experience after not visiting for a long time.

Evening meal (Sunday roast) was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent with a good choice available.

Our meal was excellent. The services staff were untrained but pleasant. The DJ was very good, he had everybody up dancing. A most enjoyable New Years Eve.

We were with family and friends. 15 adults and 5 children. Nice big room with plenty of space around the table. The service was very good, nothing too much trouble. The food was excellent and well presented. We had pre ordered from the Christmas menu, some turkey, beef, vegetarian, gluten free,and fish. Plus the children's choices, all arrived together. Nice size portions with plenty of vegetables. We had 3 courses, and thought it was very reasonably priced. Many locals eating from the normal menu as well. The bar area was warm and welcoming.

The menu stated 5 courses. The 1st being canapés on arrival... however we never received these. When seated at our table, the waiter/waitress didn’t ask if we would like more drinks. overall starters were lovely apart from one. The Onion tart tatin. This was a large piece of pastry with a half cooked onion in the middle and salad on the side. Main course was lovely however the pigs in blankets were slightly under cooked and the meal was covered in gravy. Selection of veg was limited. If you didn’t like Brussels then your choice was carrots and red cabbage. (Luckily our family like Brussels) Oh and there was no Yorkshire Puddings!! If the gravy was placed on the side and Yorkshire Pudding was included, the main course would have been good . Desert was good each option delivered with a large portion

Good food with good service. Decided on fillet steak which is rarely available in many restaurants. It was nicely cooked and prepared, I enjoyed very much.

They were really friendly and helpful when making the booking. The restaurant was full so they offered us a table in the bar. The food was wonderful. The only slight hiccup was that we had to ask for our desserts as the waiters had all disappeared for rather a long time! The desserts appeared fairly quickly and were delicious so it didn't spoil our experience.

Regularly visit with my elderly father and had another delicious meal. The service was prompt and charming as usual and a lovely ambience with a large crackling open fire.

Stayed here for one night whilst away on business. Can not comment on the food, as only had breakfast (nicely cooked and flavoursome), but the evening menu had mostly fairly standard pub fare. From observing other tables, the food looked well presented and tasty.

I have just had my 50th birthday party at the Bird in Hand and couldn't recommend them highly enough. My guests and I had a wonderful evening with full and exclusive use of all the dining areas as well as the lovely outdoor courtyard. There is also a wooden floor ideal for dancing. The staff were so friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make the evening special and the food was very tasty and well presented. We stayed the night in the George III suite which was a real treat. My family who stayed in the hotel were very satisfied with their rooms as well. We had breakfast together in the morning and there was a great choice of fresh and well-prepared food on offer. Service was again friendly and efficient. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Bird in Hand for making it such a pleasant and memorable occasion! We will be back soon!

We visited back in the Spring when clearly the place had been refurbed and it was beautiful and the welcome fabulous. We have been coming here as a meeting place for many years, sometimes eating, sometimes for drinks. I suggested we meet family here on Bank Holiday Monday for lunch.

Comfortable restaurant, pleasant and efficient staff. Not a comprehensive menu but a reasonable choice. Also provided a separate menu for gluten free.

My father, wife and I had a lovely lunch here on Saturday. Although they were busy the service was polite and prompt and the food was the usual excellent standard. My father's ploughmans was enormous and my soup very tasty.

We enjoyed a lovely meal again in the bar area that evening, service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant.Large car park at the front of the Inn. and 2 garden areas which were planted beautifully.Our room unfortunately, although clean and peaceful was extremely dark , the window was overshadowed by an enormous tree, which although gave privacy made the natural light very poor which was a disappointment.

The refurbishment of this favourite haunt of ours looks good - the facilities are of a high standard, it's light and airy, with a good menu and adequate wine list. Wadsworth ales are renowned for their quality and so we had high expectations of our family lunch for 11 to celebrate our daughter's engagement. We have been coming here for years and were eagerly anticipating a great experience. To cut a miserable tale short, the service was unbelievably slow. Ordering was slow, one starter didn't arrive but was later delivered with no apology. Little attention was given to service of any kind which resulted in meagre wine sales for them as we were all in the mood to party and would have needed little encouragement to order more. Plate clearing had to be requested. Lo and behold a main dish was also missed. We had nearly finished our mains when the forgotten one arrived - the sole was poorly cooked and barely edible but the diner concerned was too hungry to complain. We had been encouraged not to wait before starting our food as not one of the mains arrived piping hot. What good Sunday lunch provider runs out of crackling for the roast pork? The presentation was reasonable but not impressive nor delicious like yesteryear. Again, plate clearing had to be requested and staff were, with one exception, quite surly.Dessert menus were chased and orders eventually taken - the cheese board was a little measly but tasty. The other desserts were average at best. We pleaded for coffee which, after more than three and a half hours, we felt it in dire need of. Luckily I was at the far end of the table and was unaware of the rudeness of one waitress to my daughter on several occasions. After nearly four hours, we left, bitterly disappointed. To add insult to injury, we received a call half an hour later to say that there had been a mix up and a drinks tab which we had started before the meal had been missed, together with some of the desserts. Being the honourable diners we are, we returned to the pub and paid the balance - a little irritated since my husband specifically asked them to check everything had been included on the first bill as he had thought it looked very good value!!We left - for the last time. This lovely old hostelry has the potential to be great again but Wadsworths would do well to keep a close eye on it before its reputation is tarnished beyond repair and regulars like us patronise the competition.

We called in with friends one Sunday afternoon on our way back from a day out as we knew it had only recently re-opened and wanted to try it, the new owners (Wadsworth Brewery) have completely refurbished the restaurant and it now looks modern and very inviting. Every member of staff we encountered were friendly, warm and very welcoming and the Sunday roasts which we all ordered were amazing.We don’t live too far away and will definitely be back again soon.
