The gammon was very fatty, a good choice of vegetables but only luke warm. Rhubarb crumble was very good & HOT

Beautiful staff, nothing is put on they truely go out of their way to make sure everything is okay and they mean it if not they will fix it for you. We travel always from Basingstoke to here its so wonderful, food, staff etc. You can't go wrong at this Toby keep up the great work

Good food at reasonable prices. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. Good choice of meats too and a great selection of vegetables. The service was excellent too. Will be back.

Visited this Monday lunchtime had booked a table. Very efficient and the food was good and plentiful. Staff very attentive and good atmosphere.

We went out for a family meal, staff friendly and clean as well. We will return in the near future for a nother meal. Really nice evening.

I love a Toby Carvery and this is the first time I have visited Lower Earley. I am pleased to say that this was by far the best run Toby Carvery. We were immediately greeted at the door by who I assume was the shift manager- he was a male and I didn’t get his name but I hope he knows who he is if he sees this! He seated us straight away and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. My 7 year old daughter, indecisive as always, wasn’t sure. The male member of staff crouched down beside her to talk to her at her level and explain the different options in an enthusiastic and child friendly way- this was so great to see! Drinks ordered and they arrived very quickly! The carving deck was being run efficiently, it was well presented and tidy with a huge selection of vegetables. Food was excellent quality. Our waitress, again my bad I didn’t take her name, was quick to clear our plates when we finished and we ordered our desserts. We were able to pay our bill swiftly. All the staff here seemed really good- attentive and quick to attend to patrons needs. I will absolutely be choosing Lower Earley over Frimley or Caversham Bridge in the future!

This Toby was the best I had been too. The staff were very efficient and polite. We didn’t have to wait too long for food and was in and out within an hour. Well done. Great customer service

Thank you so much to Jen who went out of her way to check if any of the foods contained an ingredient that my Auntie is severely allergic to. Jen even brought the food fresh from the kitchen to make sure there was no chance of any cross-contamination. The waitress who served us was also very good. Thank you for a lovely meal and the excellent service.

Great if you donr have much time and your hungry , you can get your meal straight away. Nice and hot .

Got here around 8pm. Told the restaurant was 'full' and to order at the bar and sit in the bar area. When we checked the restaurant side, most seats were empty and only two tables were taken so maybe the employee needed to go to specsavers! Anyway, we ordered and sat at the bar seating and I was told my food would be brought to the table as I ordered off the menu. 20 mins later, still waiting. So my friend asks one of the employees there and he says it is waiting in the restaurant area and I need to go up to get it and show my receipt. Not what I was told previously but okay. I told him no one called out that it was ready. He replies 'we have been busy' No apology or concern. And I guess the customers have to be mind readers to figure out if their food is ready and where to get it.

Sunday roast carvery was hot and delicious. The staff were excellent. They were really accommodating when I told them my son has a couple of allergies. A waitress even noticed my young son's cutlery were adult size and came over with smaller cutlery for him. Very pleasant friendly and attentive staff. We will be returning and would highly recommend.

I met two friends for lunch at the Toby Carvery and we had a lovely time. We had the carvery roast dinner which I love as I can choose exactly how much food i want to eat and exactly which meat and which vegetables. Also how many toast potatoes. The drinks are very reasonable including the cocktails. I had a liqueur coffee after the meal. The waitress was excellent. Altogether we had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, for a reasonable amount of money .

Always a pleasure to dine here. Standard of food has always been good and value for money. Meat choice is excellent and cooked to perfection.

It's not bad overall, the stuffing looks and tastes more like cheap minced beef. The roast potatoes are not the best but I have had worse. The cauliflower cheese, well they as well not bother as there is a tiny bit of cheese sauce drizzled over the top of a pot full of cauliflower. Like I said I have had worse roast dinners.

Can’t fault this Toby Carvery. Good food, nice pub, great price, great staff. Been here so many times over the years and have never been disappointed.

Wife and I recently visited. We opted for the beef/Yorkshire and helped ourselves to vegetables. This was a mistake as the beef wouldn't cut even with a serrated knife. The Yorkshire pudding was dried out and the vegetables were cooked to death.The waitress was advised that the chef should be informed to stop serving the beef but this didn't happen. However, we were reimbursed for the value of the meat.The World Turned Upside Down pub/restaurant is far superior and a better option at this price range.

The service we received was first class, professional and hardworking staff, interested in making 'you' the customer happy, the atmosphere was a happy one, the restaurant was very clean and the food was plentiful and very tasty! This was a first visit but we will definitely be back again.

Me and my dad went for breakfast- the woman at the host stand was very assertive and not friendly at all. We had a young waitress who was lovely and polite. The chefs behind the carvery were the most miserable staff I have ever seen, they effectively threw my food on the plate and when I asked for toast ‘tutted’ at me and put marmalade straight on the top in a dollop. Food was good, however completely ruined by lack of customer service and after realising they obviously hate their job I questioned the skill in the kitchen. Acted as if it was a chore to be paid. I am the general manager of another pub and if I saw this in my establishment I would be considering more than a chat with the men in question- puts the pub to shame.

Really impressed. Been here before but it's all changed due to restrictions. Not easy for staff but they were fantastic and the roast delicious.

I arrived with my family and we booked a table and we had a really nice time the food was very nice and also I had a rosé wine and that was nice as well it was sweet. The service was very good from start to finish. The only thing that lets it down was the fact that I couldn’t put my potatoes and veg which I’m not blaming them I know that they have to do it this way but it’s not the same as when you go in and choose your own potatoes and veg. I loved my banoffee sundae which was amazing. Only thing I would say is if you don’t like someone putting food on your plate then at the moment Toby carvery isn’t for you if you do not mind then it is very lovely experience and I do recommend it.

Extremely friendly and wonderful staff, extremely consistent, happy every time I’ve been! Would definitely recommend to any family looking to leave content and full!

First night able to eat out again after covid, got ignored for 35 minutes with people arriving after us going straight up and then argued with by an older blonde waitress when we asked why we hadn’t been escorted to get our food like everyone else and when we could get our food, she was very rude and argumentative in front of other diners which made me and my partner feel so uncomfortable that we ended up leaving, the manager told us not to worry about paying for drinks but didn’t really seem bothered about the situation, we both love carvery and have never had any issues before but this has upset us so much we’ve written a review...

My family and I decided to return to the Toby Carvery, where my wife and son had previously been a couple of times with friends and enjoyed their meals here. We had to queue to be served buffet style, but this was in view of the Covid-19 guidelines in place at the time, and the restaurant was compliant in every way. There was a wide choice to choose from, and we enjoyed all that we had chosen to eat and drink. We would certainly be happy to return.

He visitado este Toby muchas veces y encontré que la comida era muy buena, sin embargo, en esta ocasión, debido a las reglas de Covid, marque qué comida necesita en una hoja que se le dio, lo cual no fue un problema. Éramos un grupo de 3 y esperamos 20 minutos por nuestra comida, nuestra reserva era para 8. 15 pm para que el restaurante no estuviera lleno.Como se vio antes en una visita, las camareras estaban charlando y luego se dieron cuenta de que no nos habían servido nuestro pedido de comida, lo cual estaba bien. Finalmente traen nuestra comida y las 3 cenas tenían los alimentos equivocados sobre los que explicamos, lo devuelven y luego regresan con los mismos 3 platos y nos dicen que la comida es correcta. Les pedimos que miren la hoja de papel porque está mal. No contentos con nosotros señalando que han cometido un error, se van y en este punto uno de nosotros va a ver al gerente, después de explicar lo sucedido, finalmente accedió a hacer la comida nuevamente. Las primeras 2 cenas vienen y son correctas. La tercera cena es incorrecta, la verdura equivocada estaba en el plato, repollo en lugar de zanahorias, que claramente son de un color diferente. El gerente no estaba contento y dijo que el chef no había leído la caja. . . lo que puede suceder, lo sé porque trabajo en hostelería en Heathrow, por eso fui tan paciente. Pero para llevar la comida equivocada a una mesa 3 veces, cualquiera se sentiría infeliz y no sería muy comprensivo, especialmente cuando no hay disculpas y tratando de culpar al cliente. . Popped in once as I've never been before and it was about what I was expecting, not mum's home roast but not a half bad meal. Some of my broccoli was a little hard if I'm nitpicking but in general the food was solid. It was busy but we were sat at the next possible convenience without a reservation and the food was very filling and overall very good for the money we paid

Food not bad, beef was actually edible for once, seating absolutely ridiculous, waitress with a bit of effort could almost be pleasant!!

We popped in for breakfast on our way to a day out. The waitress was very friendly. Although it was a little cold in the restaurant.There were lots of tables available so we had lots of choice. There was a good selection of food. All the hot food was hot (always a good thing) and delicious.I would return if we were ever in the area again.

We had a beautiful family lunch there and was amazing. The beef was perfect . The variety of vegetables as well was just all cooked perfectly. The service was fantastic too . The best place in Reading to have a roast dinner. I also have Toby Carvery app on my phone which I was able to get 2 roast dinners for £12 and also get rewarded with a stamp which means if I get a certain amount of stamps I will firstly get a free desert and then after that when you reach you continue with the stamps eventually you will be entitled to a free roast dinner so I advise you to get the app on your phone.

Biggest criticism is the “school dinners” approach mostly at the serving deck, you shuffle along In a long queue get the meat slapped on the plate by some unsmiling, uncommunicative carver (how does he manage to cut the meat so thin!). You then attempt to serve yourself what veg might still be available without getting third degree burns from the serving utensils. The only thing missing would be the dinner ladies to patrol around the tables!!

We had booked for 2.30pm and despite the place being extremely busy on the Sunday, we were shown to our table upon arrival at 2.15pm. The choice and quality of the carvery was as expected - excellent. A superb selection of both meats and vegetables; all fresh and piping hot. Very pleasing to see given how busy they were. Staff were efficient yet friendly and really couldn't have fault either food or staff. Behind the scenes a different matter. Toilets were very tired, urinals out of use and broken lock on the cubicle door. Very disappointing that Toby Carvery just don't see this side of the operation as equally important.

I love Toby. The food is tasty, the staff pleasant, the prices reasonable and you never feel as if it's busy. There is no loud music, it's perfect for a catch up with friends.

You may wonder what £11.95 for two courses (£3.60 to add a dessert) might bring but it proved to be a safe bet here for our gathering of about 18. Nothing too unusual but generous melon slices for my starter and, as carved meats are not my thing, salmon baked in paper - moist and freshly-cooked. Ample choice of carvery vegetables to select. Yes, they sit on the heat and the red cabbage, carrots and peas all dry out a bit, but at this sort of restaurant I think people are more interested in the roasties and I was told the roast potatoes in beef dripping were great, and I enjoyed the cauliflower and leeks and roast parsnips. Good service from a charming waitress and free crackers on the table - so great value.

Good reception with booked table prepared and available immediately. Food was of excellent quality and very good value for money.

Visited on a midweek lunchtime , it wasn't really busy so served straight away, the turkey and beef I had was really tasty and the array of veg and potatoes was good. You can go up and have more veg but I was pretty full as you help yourself to that part. The soft drinks are refillable via a machine and puddings and starters are available if you have room.

I’m in a wheelchair and all the staff can’t do more for me. Especially Luke. I now go in there at least once a week and would never go anywhere else now. They are more than excellent in all areas. The food is always very good. Waitresses are excellent in every way and in the help they give me. Luke is excellent in his hosting and also keeps an eye out in case I need to top up my drink which he does if he isn’t with other diners. It is now the only restaurant I use because the service and food is excellent

Celebrating my 51st Birthday and suprise early dinner for the four of us

Popped in for a quick beer, normally pretty good, however, there were four loud guys swearing !! (Obviously locals) and it was only 7.45pm.

This place might appear a bit rough and ready at first but it's warm and welcoming and clearly popular. The buffet breakfast is good value with a good choice.

I've been here many times over the years and it's always been good. Clean, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good selection of food. I'm sure I'll be back!

Friendly staff who are waiting at the door for you. Table already waiting for us 15 mins before our reserved time and during their busy period. Many tables already full and yet no long que to wait for food. Beautifully cooked turkey that was decently served, no pathetic thin slices. No over cooked Yorkies. No dry veggies. Full food containers so no scraping and they are regularly swopped with fresh. Staff so friendly they actually went to my partner whom was getting gravy, to ensure he gets his drinks order! What a considerate thing to do! I wish I got her name!

Visited a couple of weeks ago and ordered some meat rolls at the bar they duly arrived accompanied with a small bowl of soup, a Yorkshire pud and a bowl of gravy! Was very impressed with this so returned a week later and ordered the rolls again, this time we only received the rolls and a bowl of soup! Upon querying this the reason was we were told that it was a new chef and he had been sending too much out! ...pretty weak excuse if you ask me!!!

It was my first occasion visiting a Toby Carvery. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t what I had hoped it might be.

Had breakfast meeting here and we found the food was average (long wait for eggs )but better than some Toby’s It was early on a Sunday morning so plenty of parking Just one young lady on arrival that took payment was very pleasant and welcoming

Hannah and Manny made sure we were looked after, they are always very friendly and helpful. Eating with a new born is never easy but they made sure we were served quickly and looked after so we could eat fast as you never know when he will wake up. The food was good quality and a decent portion size, great value for money. We will be back for sure.

No lo hicimos, olvidé reservar una mesa y tuve que comer en la zona del bar. El asado fue increíble como siempre y si comes en el bar, pagas las bebidas y la cena antes de comer y de esa manera no te sientes tentado a comer un desierto, por lo que Toby Carvery se está perdiendo porque tienes más posibilidades de no gastar tanto en comparación con el área del restaurante donde está más tentado a beber más y tener un desierto.

Reservamos en línea y pedimos mesa en una zona tranquila y nos dieron una mesa ideal al lado de la ventana frente al restaurante. Muy concurrida el viernes temprano en la noche pero servida rápidamente. Carvery fue excelente y el 1. 99 pudines caseros muy sabrosos. Dos refrescos, asados y pudines 25. 50. Tan buen valor. Volveremos pronto.

Frequent visitor to the Toby's, so no surprise at the great taste, well maintained good old perfect roast, cant beat it for greatness and value. Staff pleasant and professional, Good atmosphere, will visit again.

We popped in here a weekday evening to save cooking and it also gives us a bit of a walk from home to stretch our legs.

I visited for Sunday lunch as I have done for over a year following the Basingstoke restaurant’s closure. I rarely book since I don’t tend to plan my Sundays as I have to do that in in my working week. The food was very good as always and the service and staff friendly and efficient. The meat is first class and always cooked to its succulent best.

Never been to a Toby Carvery before so was looking forward to the experience, especially as it was a family members 50th. Not a good start with one of the party members slipping on the ice in the car park resulting in them being concussed and vomiting. Maybe, the car park should have been cleared of the ice, but not sure what the health and safety and liability issues are for this.

I received a voucher which was money off my main meal so we went and it was 20% off all our main meals which was the icing on the cake. The food was perfect and always go for the beef which I love. The service was excellent and food always excellent . I would always book if you go there because it is so popular . Believe you have not lived until you have experienced what a perfect evening is.

It is always a pleasure seeing that Clare is on duty when visiting Toby Lower Earley. She makes all of her guests feel individual, and knowing that we enjoy our meals " piping hot " always offers to reheat them for us. She is an Ambassador for Toby Carvery. Thank you Michael and Annie

we stopped using Toby's as they were not very good stopped at Toby Lower Earley on the off chance as we wee in the area thought we would see what it was like and we were very pleased with staff and the food it was a great meal and we will be going back we just wish all the other Toby's in our area could match them

Visited for lunch today with my wife. The food is absolutely amazing. Great selection of vegetables also. We were greeted and served drinks by Emma, she was so polite and helpful, a real credit to the company. Would recommend to everyone to try the Carvery. Great value for money. Top job!

Always come here when we want to meet our family part-way. As a vegan they offer great food options, as well as giving me the bigger size of the two plates to allow me to fill up on as many vegetables as my heart desires - haha! Great value for money as well as space for 12+ people to all sit together. Great place, definitely recommend.

Due to Festive season, booked a table, on arrival table already prepared & taken immediatly to a nice window table.

Three visits in as many weeks with my wife. Excellent selection of vegetables to accompany the mouth watering selection of meat. Will be back

Maybe Very Good is a bit too much but this was a little better than average...

Was greeted kindly and efficiently as soon as we walked through the doors. Server was brilliant, and chef friendly on the deck. All veg options were available and deck selection was clean and tidy too, which makes a difference to some carveries I’ve eaten at!

Went into Toby carvery on the off chance had to wait for an hour for a table

We have been to a few Toby Carveries and they are all very much the same. The food is fair but the meats can be dry. However, the gravey is lovely so that helps. The vegetables tend to be ‘squashy’ as opposed to firm but again this is fine as long as you know what to expect. As for value for money it is hard to beat as it is so cheap.

We took local friends out for lunch here on a Sunday. It was crowded so obviously very popular with the locals. We had a cramped table for 7 which meant if one person moved everyone had to. The deal is one serve of the meat selections per person but you can go back for the sides as many times as you wish. The problem was we were so squashed in and the layout of the food was such that if you wanted seconds you couldn't get to most of it because people were still lined up for their meat serves. Hence we didn't do that which, to us, made the meal expensive. Ten pounds 99p per person (about $18 aus) was I suppose ok by UK standards as we found most of the food expensive. What food we did have was a little bit average.

We take friends out about every 6 weeks to their local Toby and we have never had a bad meal there. It's the best carvery we know in the South! Our usual waitress, Claire, is friendly and helpful, especially to our disabled friend. The food is usually hot and there are nice puddings. My husband's favourite is treacle sponge with custard. In order to make room for this he just has 2 starters! He has had some very tasty starters and is quite happy with his version of the menu! And the prices are very reasonable. But please avoid Thursdays cos that's when we go and we don't want to crowd the place out!

It was a wonderful dinner for all the family. The roast dinner was amazing. I had the beef which was fantastic and mashed suede. The roast potatoes and the vegetables were perfect. I had the strawberry sponge with custard. The only thing was I wish I had more custard. My daughter had a big slice of cake with I think was caramel and she loved it . So this place is a must for everyone. Thank you for the wonderful service too.

Booked a table for four online, which was easy. Had an email confirmation and a a text message also. Arrived on the day and although it was busy, were seated swiftly with a member of staff taking our drinks and food order. There is a menu to choose from with starters, mains and desserts but we all opted for the Toby Carvery roast

I booked a table for my fiancé’s birthday on 28th October. I had pre-ordered a celebration package a week prior to our visit, in which it states on your website I would receive ‘table decorations/balloons and a card signed by the team’. I also requested the birthday brownie and for the team to sing ‘Happy Birthday’. When we arrived, there were no table decorations or balloons (despite having booked this under the condition we were at least a party of 4, which we were). I spoke with the gentleman at the front desk, explaining I had ordered the celebration package. He assured me he was aware of this and everything was under control, leading me to believe they may bring the balloons and card out with the birthday brownie. We ate our meal, which was fantastic and the overall service from Caitlyn was exceptional. After we had ordered our deserts, Caitlyn and another member of staff brought out the fudge cake my fiancé ordered (he chose this instead of the birthday brownie) which was decorated perfectly with ‘happy birthday’ written out in icing sugar and a candle. They sung while bringing the cake out as promised. Overall the service from Caitlyn was exceptional and I cannot recommend her enough, she was very attentive and very friendly. I was however very disappointed with the ‘Celebration Package’ as we did not receive the decorations/balloons or the card signed from the team. This is stated as the standard package when you pre-order for a celebration, so we in fact only received half of the promised package. I am very disappointed as your website states a ‘fantastic, hassle-free way to make some great memories’ and this was not the case as my fiancé was very upset. Having been extremely let down, I would not book with you again and would encourage other people thinking of booking with yourselves to celebrate a birthday or special occasion to reconsider and book elsewhere. As I said previously, the service from Caitlyn was very good and I cannot fault her. I have filled out the online complaint form and have requested to hear from you as to why my pre-ordered Celebration Package was not as promised on your website.

Visited this retaurant twice in the last few weeks, and my expectations were exceeded both times. Great vegetarian options, great service (our waitress Caitlyn was lovely, and attended to our every need). Will be back again soon for more!

I visited this establishment yesterday with my 2 children for dinner. Glad I booked a table as it was very busy. Was lovely to see a pub with drinkers as well as eaters doing so well. My children thoroughly enjoyed their food as did I. It was piping hot and a good variety of choice for veg and potatoes. As we all agreed, it was the best meal there so far! The staff were attentive and friendly and service was blindingly good. We look forward to visiting again.

Entonces, he estado aquí un par de veces y cada vez que me fui me decepcionó un poco. No en el servicio, que siempre es agradable, pero que la comida es tan normal. No está mal, pero tampoco es algo que te haga feliz de que hayas venido. Ahora este comentario es un poco injusto porque no se posicionan a sí mismos como un restaurante de primer nivel sino en un lugar de valor por dinero y definitivamente son eso.

He estado visitando a este Toby durante muchos años, y nunca decepciona, y siempre es un placer. Una cálida bienvenida de Caroline, que luego fue atendida por Clare, quien siempre nos cuida muy bien, incluso asegurando que nuestras comidas estén "bien calientes", después de haber recolectado la carne tallada por Arg, todo simplemente impecable.

This establishment is our go to carvery as it never disappoints. Staff are always so lovely and welcoming. Food is always fabulous. Highly recommend and keep up the excellent standards :-)

Celebrated my girlfriends birthday here as she loves Toby. Great venue, happy staff, clean business, and delicous food. Love it !!!!!!

Had an excellent meal and the in-house staff were really nice and helpful. My issue was once I left the restaurant and got home, I noticed that they were overcharging for refillable drinks. It was only a matter of 20p each but emailed head office to make them aware incase they needed to adjust the price on the system. The mail I received in reply was quite rude and unhelpful and to be honest if that’s how they treat customers then I hope they get what they deserve. I would have given the meal 5 stars but the experience afterwards with head office clouded the whole experience.
