This cafe is always so delightful with its quaint style of making you feel in the South of France ! Sitting outside the staff were attentive polite and smiles all round. Lovely hot coffee and eggs nothing better on a Friday morning. Not rushed like I have been in other places in Winchester ! Do visit, the staff, the ambience and quality of food make it a pleasant cafe in the heart of Winchester

We were visiting Winchester for the weekend and fancied a roast lunch. We were a group of five and found this place online that had good reviews. It was a short walk from the centre of the city, but it was so worth the extra steps. We found a beautiful little pub with loads of character, and had one of the best roast dinners that we have all had in a very long while. Between us we had the beef, pork and chicken , all of which were beautifully cooked, with the most perfect roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, and really flavoursome vegetables. The roasted parsnips and carrots were particularly good. And the gravy you could quite easily have drink from a mug, it was that delicious. After all that we thought dessert might be a bit of a let-down, but quite the opposite. The orange marmalade bakewell tart (yes you've read that right) was amazing. Beautifully thin, short pastry and the tartness of the marmalade balanced so well with the sweetness of the frangipane and the (nicely thick) chantilly cream. And to top it all the service was really friendly and attentive. We all agreed that, if this was your local, you would never go anywhere else.

We stayed at this spot while attending a wedding nearby. Once we checked in the owner was very apologetic explaining how the Wifi was not working - he then took us up to our room which was small but cosy. We had dinner on the Friday night and the food was to a good quality and price bracket not bad also. The highlight of this place is the breakfast in the morning - nothing is too much bother and it is presented really well. It is easy to access the property if you are coming in late at night and there is a car park as well. Really well run and very clean! Worth a stay if you are close by!

A perfect hidden treasure in the centre of Bishops Waltham, ideal for a quick snack, tasty sweet treat, tea or coffee or apparently during the evening live music and the monthly quiz night. I will certainly be visiting it again to experience the great food and drink and excellent customer service and amazing host - Chris. Look forward to visiting again and certainly worth a visit.

On arrival we were welcomed by a very enthusiastic member of staff who took our drink( 2soft drinks and a beer) and food order. I chose the fish of the day, skate wing with brown butter and capers and new potatoes, (£26) and my family chose the double beef patty burgers. After a reasonable time, the food was served, and we were asked if we wanted any sauces. I replied that I was waiting for the vegetables. I was told that the skate came with potatoes, and if I wanted vegetables I could order seasonal vegetables from the menu, which I was given. Vegetables cost an extra £6, So I decided to decline, as when I have eaten a fish dish before in other places, vegetables have been included for a similar priced meal. The skate wing was the smallest I have ever been served(? Maybe half a skate wing), and the edges well cooked, thus leaving very little edible fish. My family were disappointed with their average burgers, and felt they would have been better value if they had been served with some salad leaves or coleslaw. We were all very disappointed with what we felt was a below average meal. I did not complain at the time as I was treating my family and did not wish to cause a scene. A service charge of £9 was added to the bill which I did not realise until after I had paid. I’m sure there are better value food options on the menu, but alas, we did not choose them. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Just re-opened and it looks very promising. Really welcoming and friendly landlord and lovely waiting team. There’s a definite focus on the food, which didn’t disappoint. We tried the sirloin steak, cooked perfectly and the lovely risotto, creamy and very tasty. We will definitely be back - must try the Sunday roast!

I came in a had a panini and I am not happy for a number of reasons. I was greeted by a lovely lady with a welcoming smile. I ordered a panini on its own. Which came to me very quickly, however the bread was slightly burnt all over. In my first bite I pulled out a black curly hair from my mouth. Napkin that the cutlery was wrapped in was squashed against my panini leaving sauce everywhere making the napkin unusable. And as someone who doesn’t like a lot of cheese there are limited options available. As someone who is autistic the cutlery was uncomfortable to use as it was clearly from two different dining sets.
