Tichborne Arms in Winchester

Went to visit for Sunday lunch after hearing good things. Whilst staff are great and food came out quick, was a let down considering the price. Potatoes were not roasted and both the meats were poor.

All I can say is that the service was below par. The food is extremely overpriced the quality was poor. You should be ashamed .

Good location, pretty countryside. Buzzing atmosphere. Great service. Thought the roast beef excellent but meagre in portion size - only 1 slice. Also disappointed with the roast potatoes - not crispy nor fluffy inside.

Such a shame about this place, we sat down and felt quite rushed then proceeded to order a starter which was nice but as soon as we finished a waitress held her hands out and expected us to pass her the plates. After that within 5 minutes our roast dinner came which is too soon. I’m not sure where to start with the roast it was AWFUL!! The potatoes tasted frozen and undercooked with a chewy skin. The pork was tough and bland, tasted very cheap. The only thing that was nice was the carrot. Like I said such a shame as we we’re excited to come here as it looked like a lovely place for a roast but for the price I was expecting a lot better as it’s more expensive than other places I’ve been. Definitely do not recommend for a roast.

Was very excited to come here as it looks like a lovely pub for a Sunday roast. We got there and straight away felt rushed. The waitress came over to take our drinks order but we wanted to look at a drinks menu first, she bought one over and stood there waiting for me to look so I asked her to give us a few minutes. Fast forward and we have got our starters about 5 minutes after ordering and as I took my last mouthful and was still chewing, the waitress came over and asked if we were finished and proceeded to hold her hands out so WE could pass our plates to her. (didn’t even ask us if we could kindly pass them over to her). Not even 5 minutes later our roasts came out. I’m all for fast service but it was way too rushed and fast. We ordered the striploin beef roast and the pork - the potatoes were white and basically tasted boiled the beef tasted cheap and like something I’d had at school, honestly it was not good at all!

Lovely pub, been many times, fabulous food on a varied menu….just the staff weren’t quite on it today, hopefully just a blip🤷‍♂️

Our first visit to the Tichborne Arms and certainly won't be our last. Beautiful pub in an idyllic rural village location with large number of outdoor tables set amongst the stunning garden with fields beyond. All of the staff were enthusiastic, engaging & provided great service. The food is very high quality, including the pizzas which are freshly made in the outdoor pizza oven. A good selection of local beers & wines too. Very popular so worth booking ahead.

It is such a shame ! The food at this pub is nice however the service was so, so bad. We waited a long while for our drinks order to be taken and then had to re-order numerous times as we were told items were available but when we ordered them, they were sold out. We had to chase most requests and at the end of our meal we sat with empty glasses for a long, long time as we were never ever offered more drinks without us asking. I would recommend but do not expect any sort of service.

Fabulous lunch on a beautiful summers day. We turned up at opening time (midday) and were offered a great table in the shade. Staff were very welcoming, hospitable and accommodating as we had a new born baby, pram and German Shepard with us. It got a bit busier shortly after we arrived which we saw as a good sign. Food was delicious. I had the Pork and Chorizo burger and my Wife had the beef burger. Both were excellent and the chips were also very good. For dessert my wife had some Jude’s ice cream and I had the Chocolate and Blueberry cheesecake which was also scrummy. The cost was normal for a typical pub lunch and considering how tasty it was, I was very happy to pay for it. Staff were excellent and attentive and the young gentleman serving us was also very polite. The gardens and view are serene and it seemed like a lovely place to have food. We will certainly be going back.

The food and service were good, however I was a little concerned by the loud banter between the kitchen staff and the serving staff. I understand that in a pressured work place that this is often normal but the customers should not hear it,as it's unprofessional. Also I did hear a comment 'it's ok, he loves it '. As a previous high level manager, this caused me to think that someone is being bullied. .

Just popped for a morning coffee on Wednesday 26th June. Fantastic welcome from an outstanding member of staff. Garden is beautiful. We were regulars of the old pub and highly commend the change which has made so much of this super location. It was lovely and quiet, am sure it gets mega busy, but on a super sunny morning it was bliss. Congratulations to all.

Another lovely meal today. Just a light bite of salt and pepper squid, a salad and some fries. It's such a gorgeous garden to while away an hour or two. Great to have Big Drop AF on draught and I have to say every time we come the quality of the fries/chips are outstanding! The perfect crisp, fluffy within and nicely seasoned.

We were lucky enough to stay here in our camper, which gave us the opportunity to use the pub for drinks, evening meal and breakfast. Apparently this is second summer for the management and they must be congratulated on the job they are doing. The garden was lovely with several different areas for sitting, eating, and kids to play. Views were great and there is plenty of nearby walking. Food and beer were very good and well priced. The staff were very friendly with good interaction with the customers, which obviously came from the manager as his interactions with customers and staff were very relaxed and good to see. Luckily the pub isn't too far from us, which means another visit will be easy to make.

First day of pizza and ran out of dough before 1800 very disappointed had 3 adults and 4 children to feed and thats what we came for ☹️

We stayed overnight in our campervan during the Easter weekend and enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the pub. Fabulous location, lovely staff and excellent food and drink. Cannot recommend highly enough - go there!

We stayed overnight here in our motorhome, as Andy, the manger, was happy for us to stay in the car park. It's a lovely pub in a lovely village. The staff were incredibly helpful, the beer was great, and dinner was amazing. Top marks!!

It is off the beaten track but worth finding and booking a table. It has recently been refurbished but in keeping with an old pub. the quality of the excellent food in nice surroundings makes this a good place to meet friends for a meal. Parking can be limited

Met with family for lunch as worked well with their journey. I was aware of some reviews about slow service but ours was exemplary. Great bar area, relaxed atmosphere, really friendly staff and landlord, delicious interesting food and decent low alcohol options to drink including a beer on tap. What's not to like?

We went for an impromptu Tuesday night Father and son dinner and fortunately the Tichborne Arms is one of few local pubs open 7 days. Great meal, loved the home made pie and mash, fish and chips also very good. Good beer

Another lovely meal with family. I opted for pork from the specials board. The best pork dish I’ve had since way back when at the Fox, Bramdean. Anyway. Great service and lovely atmosphere.

This is an absolute gem. Excellent, fast and friendly service, and the food was exceptional. Every element of my dinner was superb, faultless. I was particularly impressed when the kitchen made me some fresh mint sauce (fresh leaves) as they didn’t have any. Highly recommend.

Lovely staff and nice setting. Food poor overall, and over priced. 12.5% service charge too high for serving pub "grub" . Warm welcome, nice if bare table, and service simple but very friendly. Smoked salmon pate nice, soup good and savoury pear attractive and tasty. However, mains were very disappointing: the "whole plaice" was minuscule; pie of the day was burnt to a frazzle and dry: chips were too large and terrible. Price too high for simple pub food.

Our first visit, but The Tichborne Arms is definitely our favourite pub in Hampshire now! What a gem this pub is. In the pretty hamlet of Tichborne, south of Alresford. Large car park. Roaring fire. Very warm welcome. Three excellent local bitters on hand pump: FFF Moondance, Hogs Back TEA and Meon Valley. We were lucky to be given a large table for two by the cosy open fire in the main bar. Our meal was a definite “Wow!”: I had the home-made warm Scotch Egg, made partly with black pudding, with a perfect runny egg. My wife had Salmon Roulade. We highly recommend both starters. Main course was Roast Beef for me, and a large Pork Chop for my wife. Both were perfect. With large Yorkshire puds and lovely gravy. The veg! - roasted carrots, the best roast potatoes I’ve eaten anywhere, lots of greens and red cabbage… and then best of all: sprouts which had for once been cooked perfectly! Rounded off with tasty Xmas Pud and an Americano. Oh and the pot of horseradish I asked for was, unusually, of a decent size. Nothing was too much trouble for our waitress. All the staff were lovely. We'll be back in January. Highly recommended!

Took my dad here for lunch. What a fantastic pub! We were greeted warmly by all the staff. They were busy but very still patient with my dad who has dementia. Food was amazing- best vegetarian dish I’ve had in a long time. Will definitely return.

This gorgeous pub in pretty Tichborne is a gem. It's really lovely with a large outside area which is under cover in the winter and is very cosy. The staff are super lovely and the food is amazing and beautifully presented. We live in Poole and our friends in Surrey so it's a great halfway meeting place for a long very leisurely lunch. In the summer there are lots of little hidey places in the garden where you can enjoy the lovely countryside. This really is a completely gorgeous place.

We visited Hinton Ampner and could not get a table at nearest pub ( and their staff were not helpful) so drove a little bit further, and what a delight. Very friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere, interesting menu and great draft beer. Best lunch in a longtime in a beautiful part of the country.

Having preordered in a group booking, we did not expect to wait two hours to be served. We had eaten here twice before and enjoyed our visits, but not the case this time. The food was poor and the service was appalling. Won’t be visiting again.

Really nice buzzy atmosphere on a chilly Saturday lunchtime with the pub full of customers and the fires lit. Difficult to choose from a menu full of tempting dishes and half a dozen daily specials. We had prawns pil pil which were good but would have benefited from a little more garlic and chilli. The mouclade of mussels was an excellent version of the dish. Big fat moule cooked to perfection with a lovely broth that was full of curry notes and a little spice. Asado Venison pie and a piece of deep fried haddock to follow. The batter was almost tempura light which shows a deft hand in the kitchen. Always enjoy the draft Big Drop when here but great to see a selection of non alcoholic cocktails on the list as well. Work is happening to extend the car park which is understandable as one of the best places to visit in the Alresford area.
