Beautiful food and great service.

We went as the pub actively seeks live music. As such, we didn't plan to eat, but there was certainly a nice selection of food available, and it looked nice. The band Rellix was great, and we had a great evening. We would certainly look to visit again to see more local talent

Excellent hot food with superb service!!! Atmosphere was typical of a traditionally old pub, which we loved as was tastefully decorated, nicely lit and felt homely. Will be definitely going back again soon 😁

Popped in on Sunday afternoon with my wife for a few drinks. We are regular visitors to the area and always enjoy ourselves in New Alresford. The pub was busy but never had to wait long for our drinks , the service was friendly and welcoming. After seeing the standard of the Sunday lunches being served we decided to sample them for ourselves and we were not disappointed. I had the three meat lunch with all of the trimmings, it was lovely. The meat was tender and the selection of veg was tasty and well presented. It was a tasty way to round off my stay, I am sure the deserts were lovely but I didn't have room for them unfortunately. Thanks to all of the staff and I look forward to returning.

We had a lovely meal with Alex as our server. He was very helpful and friendly and was more than happy to help accommodate my dairy intolerance. I had a lovely steak and ale pie and the potatoes and veg were gorgeous. My mum had the braised beef and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The pub itself is lovely and quaint, it’s much bigger than it looks! We’ve been here once before and we had a lovely meal then as well! Would highly recommend here, well priced for a local pub.

We were out for our usual lunchtime walk on Monday this week and as we were passing the Horse & Groom we decided to have a spontaneous lunch out! We were greeted by super friendly staff and lovely to see Cruzcampo on draft!! We ordered two beers and two sandwiches. Now, we have eaten here before the change of ownership last year and the food was nice, but our lunch on this day was by far the best we have had. I am a BIG chip critic, and I honestly couldn't complain about them! I had the roast beef and horseradish sandwich and my husband had the vegetarian halloumi and roast pepper - both came with chips and coleslaw. The beef was really tender and the lightly toasted bread was such a nice touch. My husband said the halloumi was delicious too. The staff were great and checking in on us during the meal. All in all a great lunch choice and really affordable too. The saddest part was we had to go back to work so we couldn't stay for longer!

Lovely atmosphere and great food

We visited the Horse and Groom to celebrate Mother's Day. We were met with a warm welcome and all the staff were lovely during our time there. Our server George was lovely. Food came out fast and was really good quality. Will definitely be back!

While the food was very good, decent value, and nice quality, what made our visit truly worthy of a review was the service we received. The new Associate Manager, Alex, made our evening a special occasion by going above & beyond. His genuine care and consideration made us want to return! Kudos to the Managers who hired him!

Lovely friendly welcome. Had a nice table in corner. Service brilliant food very tasty and enjoyed by us all. Lovely atmosphere. Will certainly visit again.

Lovely pub. Served quickly and efficiently couldnt ask for more. Were left to our own devises once sat not hassled felt comfortable. Lovely pub in a lovely area with decent parking.

Excellent food couldn't fault it

We were given a friendly greeting as soon as we arrived. The beer was good. We had haloumi fries and burgers. Portions were large and the food was delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. Recommended for beer and food in that area.

New chef Johnny surpassed expectations !! The menu has been lifted !! Venison haunch was amazing !! Served with rich jus and chips !!

Great food, we ordered a mixture of starters, sides and soup to share which were perfect for lunch. Lovely sitting by the fire and enjoying some time off!

Venue, food and staff were all great. However be aware that the wait for your food might be longer than expected. If you've paid to park for a couple of hours, it was a niggling worry.

The staff at the Horse and Groom are always incredibly friendly and welcoming. As an autistic guy it is one of very few places where I can relax fully and enjoy my meal free of anxiety. I had the steak and horseradish sandwich and it was very tasty. The kindness of the manager really made my day as he paid for my food. As an autistic guy going out to eat is super daunting but it is small steps, made easier by the friendly staff.

Wanted to try somewhere new, found the drinks to be rather expensive. £24 for two double shots with mixer. Was lovely however that pricing will most likely put us off returning

Had a lovely lunch here. The fish pie was delicious. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and was nicely decorated. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming, and was happy to make a few adjustments to food options for some of our group. Would definitely return.

First visit to the Horse and Groom, we will return. The pub has a real pub atmosphere with space for drinkers and a nice eating are, very traditional. There is a wide choice on the menu and a bar snacks menu. Our food was well prepared and very nice. All the staff were very friendly and our waitress, Holly was very professional and attentive. Our family of 5 were served in a timely manner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I understand the pub changed ownership 3 months ago all credit to the new owners, keep this up and you can only succeed

The countryside around Alresford is very good for walking and Alresford is a good place to stop for lunch. The Horse and Groom offer very good sandwiches that come with triple cooked chips. Many pubs these days do not serve food on Mondays and Tuesdays but this pub serves from Tuesdays. Could not fault the food and drink together with very good service.

Really good authentic pub food at a reasonable price, and a nicely kept London Pride. Only minor issue was rather overloud music which was impossible to get away from.

Basically please cater for vegans, just one thing on the menu, it's 2023 and vegan is normal. Very disappointed in the 1 choice and confusion with staff looking baffled when I enquired.

We stopped here for a relaxing lunch treat but it turned in a slightly stressful affair. On entrance the ladies working were much more interested in watching the tennis. We took a table outside which was a little scruffy but nice. The Menus were dirty and tatty and we were not given the lunchtime menu. When the food arrived there had been a miss communication and only three meals delivered. There was no cheese on the childrens pasta and no sauces offered. The kitchen made up the misses sandwich fast. The sandwich was fresh and tasty and the chips lovely and crunch. In all the service was rubbish but the food was nice. Bathroom was rather dirty too.

The food is consistently good. The goat cheese & shallot tart is amazing! I'd like more of a summery dessert menu though - there's ice cream, but all what I'd call wintery puddings apart from that. I see lemon posset on the online menu, but that wasn't available to us. I would definitely go here again though - it's a good pub with pleasant surroundings and a nice outside area.

Great pub, warm welcome from friendly staff, shown to a table which was perfect. It was a dull rainy Tuesday so we opted for the pie and a drink option for £15.00. Tasty, filling meal, perfectly presented, lovely selection of veg, creamy mash, tasty pie and lovely gravy. Lovely feel to the pub, highly recommend a visit here if you're in Arlesford.

Very quiet being a Monday but some pubs were closed. Food was very good. Reasonable in cost and service was good.

Mixed views really with no great faults but not raving about it either. As a positive this appears to be the only pub locally that does food on Tuesdays now. My Tuesday pie special was great. The plant burger my wife had lacked any imagination. As it was for a veggie a salad garnish would have been nice. Just had chips with it something I always find disappointing with any burger meal. Add peas or salad, and make the plate look properly used. Staff were really friendly and it is an oldie worldly setting. Would go back but if eating in the area again on a different day of week, will try somewhere different to compare what's available. Four main meals at lunchtime with one beer and three waters was £61.

Had a terrible meal, and when asked to speak to the chef, i was met with a incredibly disrespectful and rude young man, i think his name was Smithy. After asking him where the lamb sauce was for my meal, he proceeded to tell me to 'bend over and i'll show ya'. horrified to say the least. Wont be revisiting

Always a good place to visit for food and drinks. However, a glass of presseco which is a small one-serving bottle is way overpriced at £10 and tastes cheap and vingery. Considering you can purchase a normal-sized full bottle costs less than £10 and tastes much better. So it won't encourage me to drink presseco in there again at those prices anyway.

Sadly the overall experience was poor. The restaurant was cold, the service was very slow with the staff apologising every time they came to the table - but not explaining why. The meals were at best average. Two had the steak and ale pie that on it's own was OK, but the mash looked and tasted like plastic, and the veg was limp and sad looking - the whole dish needed seasoning - it was tasteless. Two had Ragout of tomato, chilli, sweet potato, chickpea & red kidney beans with basmati rice, this dish had a kick of chilli however both their dishes were dry as if the ragout had been sitting for hours somewhere on a hob or under a lamp - the diners had to resort to adding gravy from the side dish belonging to the pies!! The highlight if there was one was the small desert menu with hot drink - great idea, but please add a little more ice cream and sauce.

Visited recently on a Sunday to meet with family. A really old pub that is modernised but still retains its history & original charm. We had booked & were warmly greeted & shown to our table. Throughout our time the staff were attentive & polite/friendly. A very dog friendly pub with a doggy station where you can borrow a blanket & get a treat or two. Good varied menu with options for everyone. We were a table of 4. 2 diners had starters of homemade soup & whitebait. Both I’m told we’re tasty & good portion sizes. Mains were 2 x mixed roast 1 chicken roast & 1 prawn & salmon linguine. All dishes were nicely presented, warm & most importantly really well cooked. We finished with a couple of deserts & a coffee. All in all a very pleasant few hours with family enjoying good food in an excellent pub. Definitely recommended.

We’d originally booked another restaurant for dinner as a family of 6 but left as their menu was so limited (3 out of the 9 main choices were unavailable). Having 4 hungry teens with us we asked whether the Horse and Groom could accommodate us....

Had a great meal. Lentil and spinach curry. The customer service was excellent! Katie was in incredibly attentive and genuine. Very impressive, credit to the establishment. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and clientele. Shall definitely return.

We have had a lovely Christmas Day lunch and afternoon at the Horse & Groom. The pub is so cosy and welcoming with open fires and dogs allowed in. A big thank you to the staff for working so hard (excellent service) and a special thank you to the landlord for going the extra mile and to a couple of the locals who introduced us to the board game Mancala which was completely new to us! Thank you for making our Christmas Day so enjoyable.

We booked our table for 18.00 Pre-oredered our meals online, from being seated to eating was 45mins. Some food was cold but some was hot. The manager delt with my complaint by giving us 50% off food bill. Was a nice gesture, but I personally won't go back.

Great atmosphere, great service and fantastic food. What more is there to say. If you need a place to eat and you are in the area there is nowhere better.

Nice atmosphere and good homemade burgers

One of our parties is unfortunately ill and undergoing treatments, there are a limited number of things they can eat. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was nothing suitable on the menu. They went above and beyond to make s something that worked.

We’re sitting here now…5 staff on the front of house all chatting like a social club. Ignoring customers. Waited 15 mins for plates to be taken and the same for desert order to be taken. Hardly any other customers here…but totally ignored. Terrible customer service!...
