Very disappointing visit as used to be a lovely pub. No precautions in place for covid - no details being taken from visitors and just 1 small token bottle of hand sanitiser on the bar. Big groups of very young people (made me feel old in mid-30s!)with no attempt at social distancing. Toilets were dirty and smelly. Won't be going back!

Service was appalling. We were told the reason was that there was a function on upstairs! Not my problem. Either employ extra staff or do not take bookings for the restaurant if you can’t give a proper service. Cauliflower soup, watery, main course lukewarm. Arrived at 12 midday, received main course at 1.45 !!! Won’t be visiting any time soon.

We came here to watch the rugby but left pretty quickly. Dirty toilets and rude bar staff, when asked why the beer is being served in plastic cups, we were told that only regulars get glass. One way to ensure that I don't become a regular I suppose

You know when you come to most Wetherspoons pubs that you are going to get a decent meal and pint of beer for no great outlay and this place is no different. £1.79 for a pint of Greene King IPA is absolutely amazing. It's £7 in central London non-Wetherspoons pubs. Food is always good. Never had a bad meal here.

Jacket potatoes looked good but potatoes were barely warm . It would have been nice to be believed but understandably a food thermometer was used to check our opinion. Apparently the temperature they choose to serve them at seems to be the one we judged as barely warm . On the plus side new potatoes were then offered without any fuss but we rather lost the will to live when they were pretty much like the first .Cheese tasted cheap . Bits of salad and the baked beans were ok .. . but not for £13 !

Very disappointing experience, I visited with friends and we each ordered a chicken caesar salad at a cost of £15.50 each. The salad was presented in a throwaway box with a plastic lid, mainly lettuce leaves with a minimal amount of small chicken cubes, 2 anchovies and croutons, very uninspiring, lacking in creativity and extremely overpriced. Why serve meals in throwaway boxes? We sat outside on the terrace, but this is totally unnecessary in today's society where we are all trying to conserve plastic use. We saw all the boxes with rigid plastic lids go straight into a bin with food waste so obviously they are not recycled. All water is served in plastic throwaway cups too, this is really not acceptable - the RHS sustainability strategy highlights elimination of all single use plastic on its website! I welcome your response.

As a regular visitor to Squires, weekly, often two or three times a week, I’m saddened by what seems to be a lack of consistent friendly service, the staff that wait on the customers have a friendly approach and do their very best, however a very hostile attitude towards them which is very noticeable to us as customers, from the newly appointed manager seems to be causing a decline in positive service and the kitchen is regularly unable to offer full service. The change in regular long term staff is incredibly noticeable and the general feeling is not so welcome anymore.

I read the review of the golf course below from 2017 but nonetheless looked forward to my visit. I have too say that whoever designed the golf course did a great job and the layout is impressive. There were also a few greenkeepers out on the course keeping the bunkers raked etc. Overall though the condition of the course was disappointing with a capital D. The tees and fairways were scruffy and the first cut of rough poorly kept. The greens however were decent with few pitch marks thereon. The trouble with Merrist Wood is that it lies in the heart of rich golf territory but has clearly made a conscious effort not to compete with the better courses nearby and alas it shows. In the clubhouse the lights didn't work in the toilets and still didn't work four and a half hours later with calls into question the quality of the facilities management. Food and drink was competitively priced and of acceptable quality. Having played over 300 courses in the UK the big question is would I return? Despite the great layout the answer is very unlikely. Very nearly rated poor.
