Wetherspoons in Guildford

You know when you come to most Wetherspoons pubs that you are going to get a decent meal and pint of beer for no great outlay and this place is no different. £1.79 for a pint of Greene King IPA is absolutely amazing. It's £7 in central London non-Wetherspoons pubs. Food is always good. Never had a bad meal here.

Having used spoons in Guildford for a number of years went today Sunday 6/10/24 Spent most of the day there with friends bar staff lovely until. Evening staff took over was greeted by a very rude woman no please or thank you it was do you want a drink not can I help you and also did I forget something as you still at bar in a very abrupt way. I spend a lot of money in spoons I do not expect to be treated this way as I try to be polite to staff and customer s and expect to be treated like wise .

I came here today, and a couple of weeks ago, an about a week ago after that (and a lot more) and I am never disappointed!!!! I love coming here as I love the food, service, accessibility, facilities and the environment. The food is affordable and very tasty! I love the large mixed grill, very yummy. The desert is… ooh yeah (absolutely incredible). Toilets are good, service good! Recommend for a lovely lunch. If you’re interested, if I’m feeling lucky this is my usual -> one large mixed grill with chips (ketchup and mango chutney on the side) and for dessert a warm cookie dough sandwich! Very filling and yummy!

IT WAS 10:40PM. I SAT DOWN. I ORDER RAMEN, PEAS AND STELLA ON THE APP. A YOUNG LOOKING GENTLEMAN WITH A PATCHY BEARD DELIVERED MY FOOD. OH MY, THAT CAKE WAS WONDERFUL. I WILL BE RETURNING FOR ANOTHER MOUTHFUL😛😛😛.

Haven’t looked at any other review but shocked to see how low the average is! Went here for first time today for a pre theatre meal with my 10 year old daughter and I literally could not argue with the value for money. We had 2 courses and a drink each for £20, perfectly decent pub food, the atmosphere was good, the loos clean, for the price it is having 5 stars or circles. Now off to look at what others are complaining about.

Nice venue but they've stopped doing music on peak nights, don't see why - I thought that was the point of a Lloyd's No1... 20 mins for food on iorder, my drink didn't arrive with the rest and had to chase, food was wrong but...

Service was terrible but food was perfect, after spending 5-10 minutes waiting to get served because the barman lost track on who came first, spent a extra 5 minutes getting it clear to him what I was ordering, so then I paid something very reasonable...

Visited with family on their suggestion this past Sunday evening (1st March). Where to begin. The Tennessee burger I ordered was like chewing into a flip flop or rubber. Almost completely inedible. Same goes with the bacon inside it which was way overdone to the...

Been coming here for years went after they stopped the music and not the same will never go in there again as just not the same no more better places to go with music now shame..

Food was cold, hash browns were undercooked, butter was liquid, toast was disgusting.. worst place I’ve eaten in my life. Can’t believe I spent my money on this place. Service was also ridiculous, que of people waiting to be served and no one came over for 15 minutes even though they saw us waiting.

Visited with friends. 6.00 pm.on a Friday . Half the menu not available. Food served line warm. However drinks ok and cheap.Not the best place to eat unless you just want a cheap bite to eat .

A group of 10 of us went out last night and all the men in their 20's was refused access. When I asked why our friends wasnt allowed in the bouncer said big groups wasnt allowed in. However the bouncer had just refused other men from the que which looked the same age, and allowed a 2 other groups of women in to the bar with no problem. No one was drunk as this was the first bar we went to so for some reason weatherspoons was just refusing access to younger men. Great excuse to refuse access. They where also very rude to the rest of us who where allowed in when we was asking why our friends wasnt. We immediately left to go with out friends and we got further a use from the bouncers

Wetherspoons prices and choices in a historic building. Nice place to stop for a drink and a bite, take a break from the shopping!

We went there for a business social gathering. You can try different beers before you order. Order a food+beer combo is the best choice.

Popped in for a bite - very busy but found a table placed my order and service was good despite being very busy. Meal was tasty and good value - great selection of beers both lager and ale Will go again

Decided to go here for something to eat before the panto and wished we had gone anywhere else! Over 50% of the menu not available and ended up asking the disinterested staff what they did have. Ended up having the tepid chicken strips and chips. There are far better eating places in Guildford than here. Please try anywhere else.

After a cinema visit we thought a little dinner treat would be in order we have eaten breakfast and lunch/dinner in a number of Wetherspoon outlets, this is by far our worst experience. All 4 meals were served cold! My money was refunded easily (almost too easily) which though a bonus was perhaps a sign of how often this happens! The chain should get a grip and get this location sorted based on the other poor reviews too.Give it a miss and go to somewhere like the whitehouse instead.

Came to this spoons for drinks with friends, the bouncer Danny offered next level customer care, I would have him at mine for Christmas!

Stone cold breakfast. Food hygiene is not up to the 5* rating from the Food Standards Authority. Guildford borough Environmental team need to make a visit and check food is heated to the proper temperature. Complaint to manager was greeted with argumentative attitude and blatant hostility and told to go elsewhere to eat. Waitress returned with refund till receipt and threw it on the table. Manager of the establishment needs to be trained on how to deal with customer complaints and refused to give his name. Not good for JD Wetherspoon’s to fail in this way.

You know what you get with a Wetherspoons, big place, cheap beef, decent food and in or close to town centre. This one has all this plus friendly and efficient staff. Would go back again

Really bad service- unfriendly bar staff- long wait on good without being told- not impressed and wont be coming back. Been coning here every week for a while and this is the worst experience we’ve had.

Had dinenr in here on a sunday evenin, prices were great, the venue clan and tidy and staff friendly. A good meal served in good time. Better than your average clientele.

Bad place. They don’t accept foreign drivers license. They expect you to bring your passport. Absolutely ridiculous.

Great location just across the road from the station. The pub/restaurant is quite big. Service at the bar was friendly. Food was nice. Ave size portion. Drink included. Great value for money. The only down side is the cutlery, table and menu. They were all sticky which ruined it a bit. Otherwise, it was great.

Typical wetherspoons establishment, basic but good value food served quickly. Good selection for vegetarians and vegans. Pretty busy early evening midweek, but food served quickly.Only downside was the range of beers. They were advertising a 'beer festival' but only appeared to have one of those beers available.

Working on site staff really friendly and gave me excellent responses, very happy with my visit and an excellent meal at lunch time on top

This is a Weatherspoons pub,so you get what you expect. Good staff, food was decent and priced to match. Cleanish, the floor was a bit sticky.. Not much more to say. Can imagine at weekends it gets very busy.

My friends and I came for casual drinks (as uni students do) and we were served by Jlo, she was incredibly kind and attentive and offered to take photos when she noticed our shortish arms were failing us. You can tell that the staff genuinely enjoy their jobs and are happy, and that makes such a difference!

I go to Guildford regularly for business and pleasure, there are many fine pubs in town and this is not one of them.Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of Spoons, particularly in Surrey when a pint can be half the price of elsewhere even without any discount. Most Wetherspoons either get the food right or the bar service right (seldom both), the Rodboro buildings distinguishes itself with failing at both. The only good point is if you make the mistake of going it won’t cost too much!

I called in today only to pass some time and partake of a few cups of coffee. I was served politely, the coffee was fine and the ambience pleasant. Thank-you

Lamb Rogan Josh not properly heated through. Rice cold. Poppadoms cold. Naan cold and doughy as if it had never been heated up at all. Onion bhajis were good but I found a potato chip in the bottom of the bowl. What was that doing there?Overall nearly as bad as it could be.

This is only the second time I have been to a Spoons and I have to say we were impressed, the service was pretty quick and friendly in a very busy bar. The food was pub grub at a reasonable price we alI loved the beer range, we stuck with the Loxhill Biscuit which was on top form.This will not be our last visit to the pub and the building is iconic.

First visit here with my wife for a Sunday meal. The server Lettie was disinterested and unprofessional in carrying out her duties taking my order at the bar. Could not deal with her abrupt manner, called the supervisor who took control of my order courteously and apologised . Last visit here, plenty of choice in Guildford.

Have just been for a meal with my family to celebrate my daughter moving into uni - to to say I was disappointed would be an understatement! My lasagne was stone cold and my husband's scampi was burnt to a crisp. The fried egg with his gammon could have bounced off the floor; the gammon itself and the tomato with it were also burnt. We politely flagged this with our waiter, who in fairness did offer to replace some of our food, however the second lasagne to come out was no better. In fact, it appeared to just have been blitzed on the outside, leaving the middle still freezing cold. The scampi was replaced with another portion, 5 pieces of which were improved, but these were sat on top of 3 previous burnt ones. None of our food was beyond lukewarm, but we did not feel that we could complain any further in the restaurant given that our initial concerns had been addressed so poorly.We did not stay for dessert and will not be returning any time soon. One to avoid.

Food good and service to tables good. My boyfriend went to the toilet and while he was going one of the female staff walked in to do a toilet check. She didn’t even knock. She just covered her eyes and carried on doing the check. My boyfriend was embarrassed to say the least as was another man in there. Maybe they should just get male staff to check male toilets!

This place is my local and I visit regularly. The staff are always pleasant but on this occasion I took my father out for dinner. We ordered 2 steaks medium and rare however unfortunately my rare steak came out medium and my dad's was totally overcooked! To be fair on the waiter he was prepared to swap them but at this point we were already half way through so just finished them. Shame about the cooking but otherwise a good experience as ever.

Shockingly bad service and cocky under aged waiter. Ground floor waiter refused to serve group of mum's before spotty12 year olds. When questioned barred ladies and refused to serve. Shocking and disgusting

Was here soon after opening time, hence why it was quiet. Had my usual favourite, the American breakfast, quick and very enjoyable, good coffee too.

Very close to the bus station and central Guildford generally, The Rodboro is an old industrial building converted into a good Wetherspoons. We had a standard Wetherspoons meal with some excellent beer. The service was friendly and quick. A useful place to know

We stopped here after a days walking to get some food and sat down at a table on a Sunday evening and were greeted with the paper work advertising the app to order. It was so easy just pick and choose your food if it not sold out, but I guess that is what you get for the popularity. It's easy to get everything breakfast, lunch and dinner just click, click and wait and ahh errh it comes what a great experience more place should take this approach simple easy and welcome to the digital world of pub food experience. Furniture is a bit worn but the atmosphere is vibrant with lots younger folk making it busy and fun.

We had breakfast 3 days in a row because the location was ideal, but the food was lukewarm, took ages to arrive and the staff was anything but motivated...

I’m a fan of J D Wetherspoon’s establishments. But I’ve visited this one twice and I won’t be back quickly - the first time I visited was in June and they were running out of beer (because they were cleaning the lines overnight - sod the customers!) and then again in July and this time all the tills were down so you could only buy with cash... okay, these things happen but then there are queues of people waiting because the bar staff can’t cope. Not good enough JD - this manager wants a good talking to about his staff and their ability or otherwise to do the job! The customer is definitely coming a distant second at the moment!

It's a Wetherspoons - it not particularly exciting but the food and drinks are cheap! I've been here a few times and sometimes teh staff are great other times it's lik they dont want to be there at all. We had a server who was great and we had a laugh with him - this is the kind of service I'd like to recieve everywhere so well done! (sorry can't recall his name)

I came here a few weeks back with a group of my friends whilst staying in the area. I was extremely delighted by the staff that served me and my friends, in particular the dashing young man who served us who goes by the name of Ryan. He was friendly and accommodating. Will be returning on my next visit!

A popular choice in Guildford it would seem as we struggled to find a table when we arrived just after 12 o’clock on a Saturday lunchtime for a bite to eat. Typical Wetherspoons menu, you know exactly what to expect. On this occasion we both opted for the small fish and chips which was actually rather good, portion size spot on, batter wasn’t at all sickly as is often the case, just enough chips and mushy peas. Service was efficient, plates were cleared away as soon as we had finished our meals. I’m only knocking a point off because they didn’t have my first wine of choice (a Zinfandel, nothing fancy).

This is a Wetherspoons pub you know what to expect on entering it. There’s the normal selection of wines and beers on offer. The staff were really nice.

Absolutely appalled! I study at ACM. I also have a lot of mental health issues. After a uni gig (which I was performing), me and my fiancee decided to grab a drink from this establishment before our train home. We could have gone anywhere but we decided to go with "spoons". My partner had no ID on him so ordered a coke. I had a pint and we were chatting with other artists from the performance before going outside to finish our drinks, have a fag and leave. My partner was rudely told he couldnt be in here as he didnt have ID. He politely said fair enough and sat outside to wait for his coke. I was served then rudely stopped at the door by security. I was spoken to so rudely I was almost upset. I asked politely "could you refund the coke as he wasnt told he couldnt have a coke, he was told he couldnt be in here" to which I was rudely shut down by the manager 'almost' shouting "I told your friend he couldnt be here so now you're trying to sneak around? I will not refund your drinks because you've already been told" To this I got very upset and destressed as i've had spiteful encounters with bouncers before (due to my mental health issues). What the problem was I will never know but just a word of warning... the bouncers turn up and the lovely daytime pub turns into a rowdy hole. I still cant get over the plain disrespect for buying my fiancee a coke! After 7pm I would avoid at ALL cost! You will be wrongly mugged off either way unfortunately. The night shift managers are as helpful as rude snotty kids. Very sad turn to what was a lovely night.

I see the policy on dogs not even allowed outside has still not changed as I walked in from shalford with my grandchildren and dogs, with no sign saying no dogs allowed outside the pub only on the door so you would think it was they could not go in to then be told to go to any other pub in Guildford but not here is a shame for Wetherspoons

Went here Friday 31st May 2019 at 6pm-8pm. Got charged twice because the stupid Wetherspoons app glitched and decided to double up my order before I'd even placed it. So about 5 of the same drink and 4 halloumi fries came to my table. We didn't touch them and asked, reasonably, for a refund, as we hadn't ordered them. The manager was incredibly rude, as were the 'waiting' staff, who all appeared to be about 16, grinning sheepishly and shrugging their shoulders. The managers refused to refund saying the app was 'nothing to do with them' despite the app effectively paying their wages, taking no accountability, so I was effectively charged £50 for 2 barely alcoholic drinks and a halloumi fries.

Great place for a quick and varied lunch or dinner. Stopped here on the way to Guildford 5 for a show and was delighted with the range and price.

I never thought I’d be giving a Wetherspoons an excellent rating. I’ve been to a few and they’ve been pretty mediocre. I didn’t even want to come here today, but I was outvoted by my family.

Called in for drinks and quick meal. Found it busy but received speedy service. Prices were good and food was tasty. Considering it was Sat afternoon and busy we did get good service at the bar and food was served quickly. Would visit again.

We lived for nearly 15yrs in Guildford back in the day and I remember when this ‘Spoons opened - in fact for some reason I believe it was one of their first establishments. It’s located in the the old Rodboro building which at one point (circa 1900) housed a car factory over 3 floors - these spaces are now drinking areas and there’s still an industrial atmosphere but no “atmosphere” as such, which is a great pity. However, I did enjoy a couple of ales from the Langham Brewery (Best Bitter and LSD). LSD was the stronger and more to my taste - funny to see the look on the young bar girls face when I asked her for an LSD (her reply in all seriousness was “we don’t sell drugs here”!). There was a potentially nasty incident when a “street chap” went to the bar and asked to borrow a cork screw so he could open his shop purchased wine and on refusal started shouting and looking for trouble - fortunately one of his “mates” persuaded him to leave.

The food was hot but not of the best quality which was disappointing. Was very busy for a midweek lunch, the building is quite dark inside despite there being a lot of seats.

We came here early on a Saturday evening. It was difficult to get a seat - the place was full of quite intoxicated people - quite a few of them with out of control kids in tow... Wetherspoons isn't my favourite place since they banned dogs - who on earth thought that was a great idea in this day and age? Maybe they are understaffed, but there were too many empties on all the tables the whole time we were there. I guess if you want a cheap drink, it's the place to be. If you want a pleasant evening, definitely not...

The food was rubbish, the beer tasted like the pipes hadn't been cleaned and the glasses looked like they hadn't been cleaned properly.

Great location, near the station. Friendly atmosphere. A great selection of Gins, it was hard to choose which one to try first.

Visited for business lunch. Usual Weatherspoons menu. Reasonable enough meal if not a bit tasteless! Had the chicken strips. Service was quick and emotionless. Staff bit ‘disinterested’. Just about says it all.

It’s well known that, by and large, you get what you get pay for. But ordinarily Wetherspoons do try to buck that trend.

Me and a friend came along for some dinner and a catch up. Food great, plates still on table an hour later though.

Great place apart from the door staff. Was told to leave after kissing my partner. The door staff are not very nice! I've worked in the pub trade, and these are not the people you want working your doors!

Visit lots of Wetherspoons as it's a very cheap lunch and you know what you're getting. Usually you get hot food quickly. Delighted to find large well located branch when visiting Guildford on a busy Saturday. Went just before noon as Wetherspoons are popular and fill up quickly. Good job we did as out food took about 50 minutes to arrive. Panini and chips adequate, all day brunch looked like it had been hanging around all day and salad rather sad. Good points are the price and friendly barman but kitchen staff were letting the side down. No apologies or asking if food was ok which you get in almost every other Wetherspoons. Letting the side down!

Came to this wetherspoons and ordered my food and have been waiting for it to arrive for about half an hour now, other people's food has arrived before mine ( the foods cold) very unsatisfied and won't be returning. Feels like they are shipping the chicken over from China just want my burger.

Over cooked yet cold food, intolerably slow service, acoustics that impede decent conversation, dark and depressing decoration and all in need of a good clean. Dreadful place, truly dreadful. Dozens of other places nearby - use them instead.

Lasagne was rather cold which strikes me as dangerous. No-one interested in finding out if the food was OK. If I'm ill in the next 2 or 3 days I'll know where to point the finger.

I ordered at the bar as normally....the young lady was nice and kind....I ordered burger and beer...when they took me the food, the waiter just disappeared....I had no sauce on the table, no salt, and none to ask for something....I had to search by other table to collect what I needed....none asked me if I was fine or I had any other need...I went to buy more drinks, but none asked me first....!!! That’s all.

Hit this spoons on a night out in Guildford. It's essentially not a spoons on a Friday night - it's a full on nightclub. Great building so gives something a little different. Slow service - to the point someone can jump the queue and the bar staff serve them first, that does need to be improved. But would go back - a pleasant surprise!

I've been a loyal Wetherspoons customer in Guildford for about 15 years. Over the last 3-4 months the staff have been some of the worst i've come across, almost always the male staff, the female staff are excellent. They're mostly students I suppose, half of them keep repeating 'what' when making an order! Most are more interested in chatting nonsense with their colleagues than serving customers. The queue jumping is a bit over the top as well, but that isn't always the staffs problem. Waited nearly an hour for fish and chips which usually takes 10 minutes! No apology.

Not bad for a Wetherspoons. Light and spacious interior and good value food, in a you get what you pay for way. One of the few Wetherspoons I will use these days.

Got to weatherspoons at 11.35am to order breakfast. Was not aloud to order as busy had to go back to bar in 10mins. My friend went back to the bar at 11.45am they were saying that they were not taking anymore orders for breakfast seeing as we can order up to 12 noon. I then decided on ham egg and chips and my friend a brunch. My eggs were rock hard ham cold. My friends bacon was like leather not an enjoyable meal at all. I will not be recommending to any of my friends to go there for a meal it has gone down hill rapidly

Rude staff bad service cold food. I have visited Many wetherspoons around the UK. This has to be one of my worst.

Does pub chain food - it is what it is. Its ok but its Wetherspoon. Like the proverbial Marmite - you either like it or you don't! I like their fried breakfasts - simple as that so if you like your breakfast fried, then fill your boots!

This budget pub is situated in an old car factory and is popular with the local students and is one of the nicer, better managed JD Weatherspoons franchises. This restaurant has a better menu than the smaller pubs having a Pizza choice with options. Tables are always cleared quickly and the staff mainly students from the nearby university much better mannered than the seasoned professional table service elsewhere. I would definitely recommend that if you visit at a quieter time as it can get very loud in the evenings after 8pm when the music starts and they serve drinks in plastic beakers after that watershed. The door staff (bouncers) are courteous and thorough in keeping trouble out of the venue.

On a thoroughly wet day I took cover in this imaginatively designed W's pub for lunch. I ordered a baked potato with chilli con carne which came with a glass of orange. My meal was well cooked and tasted good. The cost though was £4.75, although in many other W's it is usually £4.39 ......hmmmm that's an 8% hike.

Given the location of this pub you would expect higher prices but it's not the case. We got two drinks for under £5. Good fast service too.

Food good in here better than others the pizza is well decent and for a night out it’s better than others as has loadsa room up and downstairs and is cheap and plays music!!

I visited Weatherspoons last Saturday (16/06/18) and I was refused entry. This was because the bouncer thought I was drunk.. Not only that my friend asked why I was refused entry and the bouncer pulled him away...

Visited tonight , or at least nearly did. Haven't been out in Guildford for nearly 20 years. For a 55 year old man the first time I have been asked for I'd to enter a pub .

The building appears in a good state. Toilets are clean and staff are great. My only downside is travelling all over the county and Wetherspoons news on using uk products with Denbies wine in all pubs throughout the Uk. Why do we not get the same cider as they do in the West Country? We didn’t even get the said or promised ciders during the cider festival! Yeovil have at least 8 ciders on all the while. There is a demand for cider yet even mentioning to the manager and staff still no supply!

I really do not understand why dogs are not allowed on the pavement! The seeing eye dogs have exactly the same mannaers and habits of any well trained animal. I have had to cancel a visit to a witherspoons as i cannot leave my elderly pup by himself. Damned irritating.

Although it's brick facade and location in the centre of a roundabout may not initially seem appealing, this pub with its industrial style interior is worthy of a visit. I ordered a jacket potato with chilli and an orange drink and it was delivered in ten minutes and tasted good. The interior is tidy and smart and the carpet (a feature of this chain) non too garish.

I came here for tea and had bangers & mash and a pint of Blue Moon. The food was good and the pint very nice indeed.

We went into town on Easter Sunday and tried to get some food and this was one of the few places serving food. The cheesy chips were amazing and would recommend them to anyone not on a diet.

We have been visiting The Rodboro Buildings for years,for lunch,everytime we visit Guildford to shop. We usually go at least twice a month. Always sit upstairs and our favourite choices from the menu are Bagel with Smoked salmon,bagel with pastrami, beef lasagne,vegetable lasagne,chicken and bacon salad. Imagine our disappointment when we discovered that all,yes ALL ,of these dishes have been deleted from the menu!!!!!

Although this was a great night out, I suspect that was more to do with the company than the venue.

Not the greatest breakfast but well worth £4.99, plenty of it too. The staff were remarkable bright and chatty for 8am, will definitely go back. Great value.

Food was OK. Beer reasonable, but object to having it served in plastic glass! As for my single malt in plastic? Not on.

Drink and some lunch with friends. The food was ok and was brought out in good time. I found the service from behind the bar to be seriously lazy and bordering on rude. Asked for no ice, and when ice was in the drinks, I asked for it to be taken out. The guy acted like I was insulting him. Also asked for tea and the guy just gave me an empty mug. He didn’t say a word that the self service machine was around the corner.

2nd night on business in Guildford, having eaten last evening in the posh Jetty ( see earler review) it was time to return to a more familiar setting - I like Weatherspoons - rarely disappointed and often the location is off historical interest as well.

Went here Boxing Day for lunch after shopping at the sales, with my Son and Grandchildren.

Four of us had lunch here in the large pub. Plenty of seating and a good choice on the menu. Although busy the food arrived quickly and was very good.

Went to the Rodboro today (Saturday 16th December). As expected in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, it was heaving, but that said we found a table no problems.

Normally a very nice pub to visit before a night out but I had a very unsavoury welcome from a barman who was just downright rude towards me. Real shame this was.

Went for walk this morning with 12 friends and 3 dogs. Stopped at Wetherspoons for a drink and possible lunch. Sign on door said assistance dogs only which is fine so we decided to sit outside. Had to wipe tables and benches ourselves then got told by Duty Manager that dogs were not allowed outside either as it was against the licensing law. It may be Company policy but I do not believe licensing laws cover dogs outside. Even health & safety laws allow dogs inside. He was insistent.

This Weather spoons pub is good value.

The building is quite large, there is a bar upstairs and downstairs. They have a DJ playing on the weekends and a small dance floor. Cheap and cheerful. Expect a wait at the bar and get there early if you want a table.

The pub it's self is nice clean and tidy and the beer good IF you eventually get one!. I counted 53 people at the bar and 2 staff!!! An adverage wait of 15-20 mins to get served so we had 1 pint gave up and went else where.
