Very disappointing visit as used to be a lovely pub. No precautions in place for covid - no details being taken from visitors and just 1 small token bottle of hand sanitiser on the bar. Big groups of very young people (made me feel old in mid-30s!)with no attempt at social distancing. Toilets were dirty and smelly. Won't be going back!

Went to celebrate my birthday as a treat from my wife. Served by Frenchman who did not introduce himself. Had to wait half an hour for drinks and a further half hour for food. My calves liver was acceptable and tasty. My wife's meat pie was far too crusty which she was unable to cut easily and the contents were minimal but the vegetables were very nice. Although the restaurant was not crowded the service was very poor.

Sports Bar with a great atmosphere and remarkably good pizza. At first look, it's not obvious that it offers food and, whilst it's not a large menu, the quality of the food is excellent. We had a great Friday night - thank you to the team!

Our party of 5 persons came here for a late lunch recently. We had a few difficulties maneuvering my mother in her wheelchair but we found a section of this large place which we could access comfortably. Having settled in, I tried to use the Wetherspoons App to order our food and drinks. However, each person wanted something special so, in the end I gave up and went to the bar. There, a helpful "no worries" guy helped to key everything into the computer behind the bar. I went for a local pint of bitter (Firebird Heritage) and the vindaloo meal which was reasonably spicy. Everybody else enjoyed their meals which were served directly to our table. The toilets were located further and deeper into this establishment. They were acceptably clean and fully functional. All good.

Jacket potatoes looked good but potatoes were barely warm . It would have been nice to be believed but understandably a food thermometer was used to check our opinion. Apparently the temperature they choose to serve them at seems to be the one we judged as barely warm . On the plus side new potatoes were then offered without any fuss but we rather lost the will to live when they were pretty much like the first .Cheese tasted cheap . Bits of salad and the baked beans were ok .. . but not for £13 !

Very disappointing experience, I visited with friends and we each ordered a chicken caesar salad at a cost of £15.50 each. The salad was presented in a throwaway box with a plastic lid, mainly lettuce leaves with a minimal amount of small chicken cubes, 2 anchovies and croutons, very uninspiring, lacking in creativity and extremely overpriced. Why serve meals in throwaway boxes? We sat outside on the terrace, but this is totally unnecessary in today's society where we are all trying to conserve plastic use. We saw all the boxes with rigid plastic lids go straight into a bin with food waste so obviously they are not recycled. All water is served in plastic throwaway cups too, this is really not acceptable - the RHS sustainability strategy highlights elimination of all single use plastic on its website! I welcome your response.

We went for brunch as a family of 9 (two babies in high chairs) for my husband’s birthday as it suited all the sleep times etc. When I booked we were asked to pre-order which was absolutely fine. The staff were great and bought us everything we needed. Food was good- drinks could have been bigger cups or free refills for the price. Overall a lovely start to the day with our family.

I read the review of the golf course below from 2017 but nonetheless looked forward to my visit. I have too say that whoever designed the golf course did a great job and the layout is impressive. There were also a few greenkeepers out on the course keeping the bunkers raked etc. Overall though the condition of the course was disappointing with a capital D. The tees and fairways were scruffy and the first cut of rough poorly kept. The greens however were decent with few pitch marks thereon. The trouble with Merrist Wood is that it lies in the heart of rich golf territory but has clearly made a conscious effort not to compete with the better courses nearby and alas it shows. In the clubhouse the lights didn't work in the toilets and still didn't work four and a half hours later with calls into question the quality of the facilities management. Food and drink was competitively priced and of acceptable quality. Having played over 300 courses in the UK the big question is would I return? Despite the great layout the answer is very unlikely. Very nearly rated poor.
