Spotted this place from across the way whilst we were leaving another shop. Warmly greeted as we came in, lady at the counter was friendly and the products looked really good in the display cases. We ordered sausages rolls, coffees, and some other pastries. We were asked if we would like some of the food heated up which was good. Coffees were nice, little on the small side for me but I like a huge mug and aware not everyone serves in those kind of cups. Inside was clean, tastefully decorated & light. Really liked the plates and proper knives and forks. Tip - if in pairs, get a table if one is free whilst the other orders! We saw this place fill up whilst eating so best to get a seat whilst you can.

I rarely leave bad reviews, but this place deserves it. First off, the prices were absolutely ridiculous for what you get — £8 for a pint that tasted like it came from the bottom of the keg. The food menu looked promising, but everything was overpriced and underwhelming. Worse than the prices, though, was the service. The staff were completely disinterested and borderline rude. Took forever to get anyone’s attention, and when they finally showed up, they acted like serving us was a massive inconvenience. No smile, no friendliness — just attitude. Most importantly there was no water in the toilet to wash your hand but they still decided to carry on as normal! There are plenty of better pubs nearby. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Lovely old pub, good atmosphere and very welcoming, unfortunately we thought out roast dinners were very average. The potatoes were white and the cauliflower cheese was very poor. We all had lamb which was quite dry and not pink like it should be served. Wouldn’t recommend or return for food.

Bello!

We stopped here as we'd just come out of the aquarium and fancied eating some fish! It's a small restaurant, so will probably get busy on weekends and bank holidays, but we went in on a Tuesday and it was very quiet. I had the cod and they were kind enough to remove the skin for me (one of my top "icks" is skin on fish!). My friend and her son both had the haddock. The chips were not your typical chip shop chips but the more fashionable triple cooked variety, but they were still good. The fish was excellent. Slightly more expensive that here in Folkestone (probably by around £4 more per meal), but you have to expect that in a town that still has a pull for tourists. The young lady who served us was lovely as well. I would definitely come here again.

Our car broke down in the car park last night and the staff were so accommodating and sympathetic; Boris even stayed open an extra 10 minutes so we could get some food. So grateful for everything he did for us, really made a bad situation better.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was uninviting. We were told to come in but immediately informed we had “only 20 minutes.” We had to ask for menus, and before we were even given a chance to review them, we were asked what we wanted. As we were still trying to enjoy our drink, we were pressed to make a payment because they were closing. What made it worse was that, despite other guests still sitting comfortably after their afternoon tea, we were told, “We are closed now—go and take your drink outside.” When I challenged a team member about the way we were being treated, the response was indifferent—they were only concerned about being paid. I have never been made to feel so unwelcome and worthless as a customer. This is shameful practice and speaks volumes about the lack of care or value placed on customer experience. Clearly, providing a warm and respectful service is not part of your mission statement

Went to the Bear for dinner with my sister and her partner who were visiting from Cornwall and we were all agreed that the experience was excellent. We are residents of Wantage and we have often enjoyed a nice lunch at the Bear but this was the first time we had gone for dinner. The menu was really good with a gastro pub feel and lots of choice and prices are very reasonable too. The pigeon and black pudding quail scotch egg with black berries was stunning, the cod dish, Thai style was a real treat. Excellent fish & chips (small portion is more than enough) and perfectly cooked steak. The place was packed and extremely busy with large parties but the staff were excellent, no untimely waits, great service with plenty of smiles - keep it up, you are all doing a great job and the chef and their brigade seriously know what they are doing! We will definitely be back!

Great pub food for a reasonable price, lovely friendly staff and quick service. The beer garden needs a separate smoking area but it very pleasant, someone has done a lot of work out there!
