Another excellent supper at the H&G last evening, the Sri Lankan fish balls were divine and Simon’s bream was apparently delicious 😋 Other regular diners (says a lot about a place) agree that there are numerous reasons we love the H&G and the food and service are at the top. It’s so good to see such a mix of people enjoining the great food and buzzy atmosphere - this is what a village pub should be, families and friends relaxing with their dogs enjoying life and eating great food in a village pub.

Great food and service. Very noisy atmosphere with a child and a dog running free around the tables. Great food has to be enjoyed in a relaxed environment. It doesn't matter how good the food is if the ambiance is punishing. It's worth avoiding and that's a pity that all the hard work is wiped out.

Good sized generous portions , all very well cooked and presented. Friendly service and nice atmosphere, popular venue but not too noisy. I was really looking forward to the cauliflower cheese as part of my roast dinner , but I didn't know they had run out until my plate arrived . Hopefully a guaranteed extra portion of that next time!

Very friendly greeting, lots of choices on the menu, food was lovely & all home made which is an important factor for me. We were served by a very nice young man Nathan who looked after us well. My wife and I called in one evening on our way home after a busy day in town. Initially we were just going to have a drink but decided to stay and have a meal. Turned out to be the best decision we’ve made for a long time. The food was amazing. Now I love pies and I can honestly say the chicken pie I had was the best pie I’ve ever eaten in my life and I’m 66 now. It was FANTASTIC. The pie also came with vegetables, chips and gravy. Yum yum. My wife chose the sea bass and she was equally impressed. Also good selection of wines and beer. The staff were FANTASTIC. Very friendly and attentive. We look forward to returning very soon

This is a pub in transition under the new owners who have made a success from the get go in August with great food. The Landlord Lucky is the chef, and his wife Lisa is a great host. This is my local and it’s been busy since they arrived… still needs lots of work to improve decor but the food is excellent. Had a family Roast yesterday and it was lovely with great service. Started with. Home made cauliflower and Stilton soup and followed with the beef… lots of veg too… the full works. Because it’s been so successful and busy I suspect it’s proving hard for them to get on with the decor … in between a full compliment of diners and beer drinkers ! This is becoming a 1st class local 👍🏼

We went here as a family gathering for lunch and to have some food. We were quite blown away by the selection of food, so many good options. I had a lovely bowl of mussels, which were really good. Not many places do mussels, especially pubs, so I had to seize this opportunity. My group had their starters too, which they enjoyed like paté and camembert. For mains, I had a massive burger, which I enjoyed so much that I forgot to take a picture. For dessert, I had a delectable sticky toffee pudding that again I again forgot to take a pic of. I just want to shout out to the lovely lady server we had that went out of our way for our child and got a special strawberry on top of their ice cream, which my child loved. The service was great. We loved the atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

We decided to visit here for a change as haven't been for a couple of years..certainly wasn't dissapointed! Greeting was very friendly and welcoming and a drink brought very quickly while we perused the new menu. Quite a lot to choose from - both light bites and main and certainly a good choice for vegetarians for a change. Opted for a delicious goats cheese on toast, with egg, pesto, pine nuts and watercress ... lots of taste there to tickle the taste buds. Mum opted for a traditional ham egg and chips...a 'plate plenty' for the hungry! we decided to treat ourselves to a sweet - well...apart from the tasty traditional puds like apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding, and cheese a board - there was a baileys Brulee, and a white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake! Made on site, incredibly tasty and beautifully presented with a chard of chocolate on top ...Its the tastiest, lightest and not sickly sweet cheesecake i have had in a long time - and I travel a lot!! The pub we were told had just been taken over, and we certainly will be visiting regularly, lovely pleasant and friendly staff and pleasant, comfortable surroundings..very good and reasonably priced food. Well worth a visit. Thankyou.

Of two pubs I visited in Mortimer, I much preferred the Horse and Groom to the Turners Arms. Not much between them for beer and looks; but the staff at the Horse and Groom–two women–were friendly; and the landlord at the other pub was chilly, obtusely so. A good atmosphere makes all the difference to me.. The Horse and Groom is a small, bright, clean pub. Patterned carpet; varied seating, and cosy spaces. Quite a few in, creating a convivial vibe. Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker’s very decent.

As we went in we were greated by Landlady Emma who explained the new layout. We placed our drinks order through the newly fitted screens at bar ( good workmanship). Bar staff very happy and polite . We moved further around the bar to pick up said drinks . Very well organised. We were shown to the garden to a table . Lots of people enjoying themselves so nice to see. Food available was provided and cooked the Mortimer Sausage Company who were Bbq all day long . We chose a cheese burger and a hotdog quite tasty ...Emma and Dan moved around pub to check on all punters ( all abiding by guidance) . Dan came and spoke to us quite a bit and regaled stories of his adverntures with his friend Ross ( he sounds such a character) . Was very happy to listen whilst sipping my beautifully presented gin ...lovely afternoon will definitely be back...next time will bring the dog 🐕 free treats for the fur babies ... lovely pub lovely new owners 🥰

Whilst the atmosphere was busy and buzzing, with very attentive friendly staff, the food was lacking in imagination. It was a limited set menu, which was no problem considering the occasion. There was a shared starter which was quite large but mostly all battered. Our mains were Very bland. I had a dry colourless chicken breast, with No sauce or gravy, chips, hard carrots and over cooked broccoli. The other meal was steak, chips & veg. OK but you had to pay extra if you wanted a sauce. The pudding was also a shared selection which was minuscule compared to the starter and hardly enough for two. The new landlords are obviously working hard to improve this pub, but they will have to Up their Game in the food department.

The lamb was not edible, too thick and chewy, vegetables prepared in advance and not done and microwaved. Shame really staff trying their best in “front of house” but food dreadful. We popped in before going for a meal, my friend and i decided to take advantage of the 2 for £12 on coctails, we have different tastes, only to be told that you could not order different drinks they had to be the same, we ended up with coffee, this was a loss of £5 maybe more as we then decided not to stay or return, this is a very silly policy, you need to up your game.
