Great Sunday lunch and really good value. Lots of veg and meat was cooked to perfection

Can’t understand why it was so quiet, had a great light lunch on a Saturday while the market was on, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and great beer selection

We had a lovely stay and would come back again. Clean, comfortable and central location. The decor in the room was cute and the bed was comfy and big! A bit of noise coming from the bar but only background noise and didn't bother us or effect our stay. We only stayed for one night for my birthday. There's parking which was great as well.

This historical hotel is perfectly located in the Heart of Newbury. Powerful central heating keeps the rooms toasty warm, beds are comfy, and the breakfast excellent. Rooms are of a reasonable size compared to others in the city centre. The decor though is eccentric and requires some maintenance / upgrading.,As usual one of the lights was not working (this time over the bathroom sink).

Would have given 5 stars. But there wasn't a marshmallow to be seen even though it was included in the hot chocolate possibilities. They were good enough to add extra cream however.

I recently had the pleasure of staying on business at the Elephant at the Market for a month, and what a delight it was! The staff were all friendly, polite, and were willing to go the extra mile to make my stay as enjoyable as possible. The bar area is relatively small, but there's still a solid range of beers on tap, coupled with a well stocked spirits selection. The food is excellent, I heartily recommend the Chorizo, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and the 10oz Ribeye Steak is divine. The location is convenient, being in the centre of town, it's not even 10 minutes from the train station, and less than five to the bus station. There is also good parking at the rear of the hotel. The rooms are clean, tidy, well presented, and spacious enough for almost any need.

Food was great and came out quickly, service was lovely from luke and it wasn't too expensive. Definitely coming again soon.

Met up with friends in this pub and had the lunch menu. The food took a long time, tasteless and overcooked chicken tenders. The melt in the middle chocolate pudding was dry not really melt in the middle chocolate pudding, wasn’t really nice and the ice cream on top was just frozen whipped cream- tasteless and horrible.The latte was cold. Would not come back here

Centrally located with rooms and parking. Great you might think. To be fair the room was nice, clean towels and comfy bed. However I have lost count of the number of pubs with rooms where the tv does no work! This no exception…..could only control by the wall socket and permanently stuck on ITV2!! Bearing in mind this is Marstons pub…..only one real ale….really? Food a disaster. Ordered the fish n chips. The batter shattered and the fish….think it was fish…..was so dry. Plenty of other eating option within a 100 metres Sorry guys, you were well off the mark tonight

Have to say after our meal yesterday it was awful, lots of errors undercooked food and most were cold it took a long time for the food to come out far to long the place was empty. Two desserts took half an hour maybe we were just unlucky but it's a shame after spending nearly 300 quid in the place. Never again

Had our work Xmas meal here. Very well done by the staff and only one wrong order (mine). Would still recommend!

Friendly welcome and service, great food

Really simple to book a table from the website, the service was really good and the menu had some great options. The food arrived fairly quickly (but not too quick) but there was no pressure or rush to eat quickly. I had the steak (perfectly cooked medium rare) and my wife had the chickpea curry (beautiful). Will definitely be back and will recommend to anyone to give it a try.

Our server Mikele, was absolutely amazing, nothing was too much trouble, the food was plentiful and delicious. A massive improvement from my last visit there, the team work as a team and were very professional. From start to the end of the night, we were given an great service. after being let down by our Christmas party the team accommodated us with all our little quirks, and were fantastic with our many allergies. thank you all

We were greeted nicely and shown to our table. Soon after a male server came over for our drinks order. After short while a female server came to take our food order. We were a bit disappointed that they had run out of steaks so early in the evening , however, after another quick look at the menu we ordered different dishes. The starters arrived promptly and they were very good. After a good break our food arrived. All hot and nicely plated. We were all very happy with the food. The female server then came to ask if we would like to replenish our drinks and soon returned with them. Our desserts arrived after after a short break between courses and were delicious. It was fairly busy in the restaurant that night but at no time did we feel neglected or ignored. The service was great, and the food was hot and tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive. We were all very happy with our experience at The Elephant in the Market and wouldn't hesitate to return. Many thanks for a lovely evening

Our annual Christmas party was last night, Thankfully The Elephant in the Market were able to accommodate us after being let down in November. The team were very helpful we had some strange requests but these were meet without any issues a very can do attitude from Cass when I called ( more than once ) On arrival I spoke with Harry And the lovely Mikele who again were very friendly professional and helpful Mikele was amazing he was on hand for our every need while not being over intrusive, although the restaurant was full with other diners we actually felt we were the only people there as a large group this isn’t always easy to achieve. I personally felt the service was outstanding, The food was of an excellent standard Hot and all our weird allergies were taken care of. The food was also plentiful we ordered extras which were not really needed Well done to the whole team And thank you for making our Christmas party so special

Went for an unplanned lunch, the staff were very accommodating and helpful in providing a table, drinks and checking effectively that everything was good during our visit. The food was lovely with good portion sizes, well cooked to perfection, leaving us both full. Will definitely be returning for more

We had an area reserved in the bar for a colleague's retirement send off. The service was great and the food they provided for hot nibbles (sharing pizzas and fries) was hot, plentiful and delivered exactly at 6:30pm as we had requested (& enjoyed by all). Thanks to all the staff - would highly recommend you pay them a visit.

Visited last minute, glad we did staff were friendly food was delicious, best chicken burger ever apparently. Definitely returning soon. So nice to have staff and chefs that cared.

One of our group said it was the best chicken burger he'd ever had and we're all going back now to try it!

Great Sunday roast. There was a big table of us and we all had a fab meal. Cauliflower cheese could use a bit longer cooking as it was slightly hard but that is being super picky! Staff are nice and helpful, especially with the kids.

Worn rooms with white moths and red spiders. Cold and slept badly. A breakfast hostess who seemed to hate her job, also expensive and bad breakfast. Don't stay here.

This is a marvellous establishment with excellent customer service. Notably the young woman with the black hair, Jess I believe her name was, had a stupendous attitude and a clear care for her job. Would highly recommend and look forward to my future visits!

Came in with my family for lunch and had a lovely time place is beautiful and staff are very friendly food was perfect would recommend!

Accommodation is good as is location in the centre of Newbury. But what has made it the perfect short break is the service. The staff will go above and beyond to make you comfortable. Charlie, our waiter in the restaurant, ensured our meals addressed dietary requirements and couldn't have been more helpful.

We popped in before going for a meal, my friend and i decided to take advantage of the 2 for £12 on coctails, we have different tastes, only to be told that you could not order different drinks they had to be the same, we ended up with coffee, this was a loss of £5 maybe more as we then decided not to stay or return, this is a very silly policy, you need to up your game.

the server was very friendly and accommodating as there wasn't much to choose from on the menu for a pescatarian so I asked for the chicken Cesar salad but to remove all meat which they provided. We used to visit all the time but when the menu changed, there is limited options for people that don't eat meat The old menu had much more options

Booked a meal with some family and friends, food was amazing loved the new menu, Kyle and Alfie served us and we're extremely helpful and knowledgeable and couldn't have done anymore great staff!

We popped in for drinks, and ended up staying for dinner! The food was delicious and Kyle (who looked after us) was absolutely incredible, making sure everything we could’ve wanted was delivered flawlessly!! He looked after us with a smile and made the experience magical! Would definitely recommend coming here!! :)

Had a birthday meal today, slow, bad service, veg was cold they warmed it which dried the meat making it like cardboard, food for 9 people not one of us had a good word about the food, first time of going there, wont be a second

My husband and I visited Newbury for a few days, and the Elephant @ the Market was definitely the right choice for us! The location is top notch and everyone's very friendly. We were helped by Michael and Harry, who managed our stay expertly. We stayed in one of their rooms upstairs and absolutely loved it. The decor is a blend of modern and traditional style, very tasteful and comfy. We also had breakfast and drinks in the dining room/pub downstairs, which was very convenient. Couldn't ask for more!

Half way through a three night stay, no air on in the room just a fan that was broken (replacement was provided but just blows hot air around the room) Practically no WiFi in the room, I couldn’t use it to work and any app requiring WiFi takes minimum of 30 seconds to load if it loads at all! WiFi I might add that took the staff 10 minutes to help with because the app will not allow you to submit a date of birth and I was just met with “we’ve lost count of how many times we have reported this” Towels were replaced after the first night but bed has not changed or even made. Nice looking hotel but lacking in basic amenities and I wouldn’t recommend staying here especially at the prices they charge !! Great location Restaurant not tried

Car park at the rear of the hotel. I arrived late and had to go looking for staff to check in. Rooms basic but clean. Good location.

We’ve been coming here more regularly over the last few months, and we receive such a warm reception from the team every time! Brandon, Jess, Kyle, Alfie, Olly, Kieron and Doug… (sorry if I’ve missed anyone). Just had a Sunday Beef roast, and it was amazing. Red hot, tasty and HUGE! Great value for money! A must try for the food! We’ll be back as always! Keep up the good work!

I have gone to the this pub many times and always have great exprience. The bar staff are always friendly and very helpful. Both Mikey and Doug have served me and they are a credit to the team. Always ready to help customers with any issues. Would reccomend the elephant the elephant to anyone. One of the best places to drink or get food in Newbury

Nice place but deceiving drinks menu so be careful. It’s not clear that the 2-for-1 cocktails deal only applies to those with a star in the menu. The requirement of which is hidden at the bottom of the drinks menu and not with the promotion. Also the promotion contains an image of a mojito which itself is not included in the deal. Very misleading. Really deceptive and a shame as it lets down the entire place and ruined our trip accidentally ordering two Aperol Spritz only to pay for both. Watch out for other misleading offers and menu items. Edit: I want to also add that when ordering I specifically asked for the 2-for-1 cocktail deal but the bartender did not point out the Aperol Spritz did not qualify.

On clearing the mains, desserts were offered and so we proceeded to look over the menu only for the waiter to return a few minutes later to advise us ‘you can’t have dessert as the kitchen is closed’. Shortly after, we were presented with the bill. There was no apology and we were not informed of a closing time of the kitchen during our visit. Having worked in hospitality, standard practice is to keep the kitchen open for remaining courses for those already dining. The whole experience was lacking in customer service and sadly I will not be returning anytime soon

Came in for a meal with my partner to celebrate moving to the area. Served by Kyle who took amazing care of us and spent the time after his shift finished going through local attractions and what's good to do in the area. The pizzas are amazing and Kyles drink recommendations really topped it off. Doug on the bar really knew how to make delicious cocktails andbyhe team that took over belive, they where called Brandon and Ollie really finished the evening of nicely. Will definitely recommend and definitely be back. Maybe mynnee local!!!

Lovely venue, the staff are fabulous and well knowledgeable on the items they are selling and even personal recommendations to try. The food is simple but tasty and very reasonably priced. I come quite regularly and the entire team are very enthusiastic and always go the extra mile. Mikele, Brandon, Tylan, Alfie, Ashlyn and Jess are expecially welcoming. The best place to stop by, have a bite to eat in Newbury. Hidden gem next to the Corn Exchange, lovely food even better drinks! The service is definitely five stars, from Mikelay, Kile, Alfie, Ashlyn and Brandon, you know it’s always service with a smile! Thank you guys
