Great non-resident breakfast last week. Full English in a cosy country pub - what's not to like!

A very nice meal and excellent staff.

Wonderful lunch here. Warm friendly welcome and the best sausage and mash I have ever had! I want to go back again tomorrow!

Staff always lovely. Our first Sunday Lunch, The vegetables were amazing. I had beef, which unfortunately was very stringy, too much fat and very hard to cut. Cauliflower cheese again lovely except two pieces unable to cut. Will go back again just to see if this was an off day. Did tell staff before leaving. they did say they would tell the chef.

We visited last night and had such a disappointing meal. The staff were friendly and service was okay (quite slow) but the food was shocking. I have attached some pictures, we ordered the prawn and chimmichurri flatbread which arrived and we couldn’t even tell what it was supposed to be! It was essentially a whole bag of shop bought lettuce mix on a soggy piece of dough with only 4 prawns on it and feta which was not mentioned on the menu either! Calamari and patatas bravas was okay but don’t come here expecting authentic tapas! Tomato bread as you can see was charcoaled - I can’t believe they served us that with a straight face. We did agree with the waitress to have the flatbread taken off the bill (would’ve been £18!!!) but I have to put this here as if we’d come for a special occasion we would’ve been SO disappointed. I will point out though the Rose wine was very nice but that was the only thing we enjoyed about it. Also the whole place had a very strange atmosphere.

Stopped off here for afternoon Tapas. Very good food & relaxed atmosphere.

Popped in for a quick meal. The staff were friendly and efficient. Food was good (although a limited menu due to availability). Can't comment on the rooms as we did not stay there.

Actually the worst experience I have ever had out For dinner , food was horrendous, service so so poor. Such a shame as it’s on our doorstep. Serves a Ok pint but that’s the sum of there ability’s. I am sure it will be closed down soon as so much better around.

Lovely pub and garden. Friendly professional and attentive staff. Good menu. Spent a delightful midweek lunch time with a friend in their sun trap garden overlooking rural outlook. A really nice find! I’d love to come again.

My family and I were customers of the Bunk. We went for a family meal during the england match this evening and was taken aback by the manger who appeared to be drinking half pints while on the job. When serving us he appeared slightly disoriented and unable to speak clearly. As the Bunk is a normal place my family and I like to visit, I was taken aback by the way no-one said anything about the manger drinking on shift and how confused he seemed to be with a system while we were settling our bill. On a positive note all the staff were very helpful and deserving of congratulations of dealing with the business of the evening- our server Jacob was very attentive and helpful with everything.

Under new management! Very quiet foody place, prompt service, excellent ale, really good food, new menu.

Liked the rooms but it gets hot in the rooms. Even though they've provided a Dyson fan...it's just too hot. Service was great. Nothing is too much and always smiling. The food was good so overall a comfortable stay.

Great Sunday meal on father's day.

Myself and six friends stayed 3 nights. Bed breakfast and evening meal. The rooms were acceptable say four star but the food was not. Breakfast was generally overcook and there were shortages as the days passed by. The choices of dinner was very limited. Again there were lots of shortages. On the third evening one of my colleagues had to chose four times before they had a dish he could have.

Didn't eat here as we arrived rather late and tired, the staff were great. The beds are very comfy and the room quite clean too. Plenty of hot water and a good shower. However the noise from rooms above the ground floor rooms is still not resolved (2 years on reading a previous review). Every floorboard above us creaks as the occupants walk around, and all the slightly drunken giggles are fully audible. Not very pleasant. All a little in need of a spruce up.

Six of us had a fantastic meal at The Bunk - we couldn’t fault the food at all! The staff are all so friendly and the young man who served us (Jacob?) was very attentive. It’s a lovely country pub that’s well worth a visit. We’ll definitely be back! Thank you Bunk Team!

We stayed for two nights with our dog while we were moving into a house around the corner. The room was fantastic and it also had an outdoor area to sit with a coffee in the morning. Extremely dog friendly. The food is amazing and we stayed for both breakfast and dinner on both days. The staff are friendly and make you feel incredibly welcome which is great seen as this is now our new local. We will definitely recommend for friends and family to stay when they come to visit. Looking forward to summer time in the lovely enclosed garden and winter nights by the fire.

Celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary at the Bunk Inn yesterday. Enjoyed a delightful lunch where the kitchen staff had made a special effort to recognise our anniversary by plating the food in a heart shape. Lovely gesture. Service was fabulous as always. Attentive and friendly. Thank you to the whole team! We’ll be back very soon.

We went for dinner at the Bunk Inn. The menu has a good variety to choose from. The pub allows dogs inside. They also sell dog dinners too. Our dog enjoyed his roast dinner meal. We will pop back to the pub for dinner again on another occasion.

We enjoy coming here, it is convenient to get to from the motorway and plenty of parking. Sadly on this occasion both regular cooks were off but they did their best to feed those booked in, from a reduced menu, which was good. Things were not as slick as we would have liked but we understood why. Just an off day and kudos to them for ploughing on!

7.30 booking on a Sat evening. Their website looks awesome and I was excited with a different menu. Walked in and was immediately greeted by a bar that was covered in dirty glasses. We were finally greeted by some staff who were all young, and showed to our table. Feels like it generally needs a deep clean (clean on the surface). We looked out to the garden which also needs a good tidy. Ordered drinks, they had to come back and check, ordered food, got part of that wrong. . For dessert I ordered a Macaroon and coffee, macaroons had a shop bought feel to them and waited about 8mins for the coffee, which wasn’t worth waiting for. The food was ok, but on par with a Wetherspoons. But the cost wasn’t.. don’t think their website represents the experience. Young front of house staff whilst friendly has little professional Customer Service and general dining etiquette.

Fantastic roast dinner, so much food for your money and great quality cooking. We love the atmosphere and character of the pub itself.

Our campervan trip took us to the Bunk Inn Pub. A friendly welcome, a cozy interior, incredibly good cuisine. This pub fulfills all wishes. We had an excellent meal and were finally allowed to stay in our motorhome overnight in the quiet parking lot, right next to a horse paddock. Hired private area for baby shower. Absolutely fantastic. Ordered food for 15 people, there was so much, staff helped box it up to take home Area was just right, staff were wonderful, food was excellent. Definitely going back !!!

Pulled off the motorway and found the Bunk Inn. A very warm accommodating welcome and lovely meal for myself and my brother. I had the Haddock and my brother a selection of the Tapas (the veggie bits) Would seek out the Bunk Inn on future trips.

stayed here for 3 nights with the dog. Such a friendly place, Gavin and his wife were outstanding, welcoming us and making us feel at home, laughing and sharing stories of the area and life. Truly lovely Bar and restaurant staff and nothing was to much trouble. The food was a revelation, freshly cooked and not mass produced. We had varied items of food over the 3 days and it was all cooked beautifully, tasted amazing and we ate the lot. I would recommend the Bunk Inn in a heart beat, So worth every penny and were coming away having had a super time, feeling very refreshed and certainly well fed and happy. THANK you Gavin and the team...excellent JOB.

Had my sisters baby shower here and the staff and service couldn’t have been more brilliant and welcoming (particularly Gavin, the manager). Food was delicious and generous, and they made it a proper event for us. Honestly fantastic all round, and a lovely pub. Thoroughly recommend.

I cannot recommend this venue enough. I had my baby shower here today and the staff could not do enough. The food and drink were top quality at a very reasonable price. Beautiful venue and great time had by all. Thank you to Gavin and his great team!

We stayed in a twin room for 1 night. The room was large, well cleaned with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was also very cleaned, quite large with a walking shower. The door however didn't shut. We had a lovely dinner in the pub restaurant and a great breakast the following morning. The host was very accommodating and my daughter had a vegan dinner/breakfast. I only gave 4 stars as we were in a bedroom on the ground floor and being an old building, we could hear people above walking and going to the bathroom. We felt they may come through the ceiling! May be some carpet on the 1st floor bedroom would help with the floor noise issue.

Menu looked great. Tapas was cold and sent back to reheat. Eggs on ham egg and chips were hard. Steak was very good. Overall disappointed and not inexpensive. Won't be rushing back.

8 adults and a child Sunday lunch. Great choice on menu. We arrived at 12 and so first table. Cannot fault the food and the service. All of us really enjoyed it. Would happy go again and recommend. Only issue would be the kids menu chicken was very peppery and my little one didn’t appreciate it- but mentioned it and there was a chicken breast delivered for him in 2 mins. Faultless service. Can recommend the 5 mini puddings and the flatbread chorizo and prawn.

Bedroom was surprisingly spacious but the windows weren’t double glazed so you did hear cars on the gravel car park outside. Had bacon and cheeseburger with Chucky chips which was very good. The only thing that let down my stay was breakfast. Was expecting a sausage bap but sausage came within two slices of white bread which hadn’t been toasted. Everything else very good and found staff to be super helpful…PS a neighbouring table got the full English - it looked very good!!

Been there twice now in 1 year. Again great, great staff, especially Max. Great room, top breakfast and fantastic dinner. The perfect location as a base for major cities such as Windsor and Oxford.

This is the second poor experience at The Bunk after having been once previously and been happy. Like that it is dog friendly. How to describe the ambience today... Greeted by a v stressed guy who advised that he was not sure when he would be able to get to us. Several punters were subsequently advised that food was not going to be possible. Last time we had sticky food-covered menus and were seated in the cold empty conservatory. If you are looking for charm and a great welcome this may not be the place.

We came to Newbury for the Waster weekend and we wanted a place to have our Sunday lunch and we came across here online and it didn’t disappoint. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman when we arrived and shown to our table. We each ordered a roast and it was beautiful. The presentation was really nice and it tasted as good as it looked. I had roast beef. For dessert I had Biscoff cheesecake and that was just delicious. If you are in the area looking for somewhere to eat then I highly recommend The Bunk Inn.

Very friendly and cheerful service. Haddock and chips was the best I've had in a long time. Fish was delightful and batter was nothing short of outstanding !

A delightful cosy and slightly quirky pub.I was intrigued by the menu tapas,flatbread,and some traditional pub food.Our room was large with a very individualistic stylish decor and a spacious shower.Getting a feel for the place we anticipated a touch of style with the food.Alas this is why it does not get 5 stars as it was the usual pub "out of a packet"fare.The tapas was encased in little ramekins one of us had fish and chips and supermarket came to mind.Another had the pie which was ok it is that the pub and menu promise so much but is everyday.Dont misunderstand me there was nothing really wrong just it promised so much.Cazz our waitress night and morning was a delight and was sorry that a expresso martini we ordered was just a syrupy sweet concoction that did not resemble in any way a cocktail and after a few sips had to be returned. Apparently the brewery are to blame guessing it's a syrup base that does not see vodka or coffee liqueur. Breakfast menu is good and the scrambled eggs soft and buttery tried the sausage cheese muffin with packet hash browns it was interesting .Thanks again to Cazz for her friendly and helpful attitude

We've enjoyed eating at the Bunk House many times before. Today, one of our party had chicken which was pink. The waitress took it back to the kitchen and came straight back with it, telling us very assertively that the chef said it was pink because it was leg meat. We honestly know the difference between the colour of leg meat, and the colour and texture of undercooked chicken. Most mothers cook roast chicken all the time - we know when it's ok, and when it's not. She made no offer to cook the meat for additional time, just left it in front of my husband and walked straight off to serve another table. We just looked at each other, completely amazed by her lack of care or courtesy. My husband did not want to ruin Mothers' Day by making a fuss, so he left the chicken and ate the vegetables. The same waitress collected our plates at the end of the meal, clearly saw the uneaten chicken and didn't even comment. My food was luke warm, and cold in places. The kids' tomato pasta was unpleasant. Nobody asked if we enjoyed our meal. The whole thing was rushed, and the service was the worst I have experienced in a very long time. Such a shame, as we always look forward to coming here! It's a busy day I know, and I would completely understand a bit of a dip in service / food quality, but this was extremely poor.

We visited the Bunk for Mother’s Day. We preordered our food online as was requested by the restaurant. It was marginally busy, but to wait 50 minutes for a pre ordered meal was ridiculous. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks order as well, and didn’t even have an apology added on for the wait on them. When we asked how much longer our food would be, a young male waiter rudely told us it was next, and gave us a strong impression he didn’t want us there, and we were being inconsiderate. We appreciate they were busy, however, to be rudely spoken to and acted like we didn’t matter wasn’t appreciated. We were out celebrating all our women in our family and our mother and this gentleman nearly put a damper on that due to his arrogant and rude manner. He was young, but he has a lot to learn in terms of his behaviour towards guests . The food, thankfully was very good. We had a mixture of meats- beef, gammon and chicken which was all beautifully cooked. The potatoes were undercooked, the mustard seeds were an added bonus but the potatoes were the lowlight of the meal. The mammoth Yorkshire pudding was smaller than the potatoes and was okay. The vegetables, carrots especially were beautiful. The restaurant was nice, the food good, but the atmosphere was tense because of how stretched and anxious the waiting team were. They didn’t really make anyone feel comfortable for being there and more of an inconvenience that they had booked with them on Mother’s Day. The 12.5% added service charge is a joke. I would recommended for the food, but not necessarily for the service.

February 2024 visit, stuck to lunch menu. Just the job. Again circular walk. Warm welcome good service. Pretty much perfect. Lovely setting. Lunch with friends after a local strut from the pub car park. Warm welcome from the landlady, open fire, excellent selection of beers on draught. Quality, tasty food, much enjoyed. Just maybe would have preferred some ‘crackling’ on the pork chop and maybe some apple sauce… personal preference. Incase you’re wondering my friend did order the steak 🥩’well done’ 😳. Lovely crumble and custard to finish off. Highly recommend, we will undoubtedly return.

Really disappointing! The bunk has been my favourite local pub for a while now, always had friendly staff and a lovely environment with nice music playing and a fire on. As of recently whenever I walk in there is no one there to greet you and if there is they evade eye contact to avoid assisting you in drinks and so forth. There’s no longer any friendly faces to make you feel welcome. There’s a cocktail menu which used to be one of my favourite aspects that sets the bunk aside from other local pubs, however whenever I ask recently they don’t have the ingredients or it seems as though they can’t be bothered. I bring up our own glasses from the table as no one ever comes over to check on you. The fire is rarely on now and it’s just cold and last time I came in there wasn’t even music, just buzzing. I think I’ve given up hoping it will be nice again, but last time I visited there was a lovely younger girl who seemed to be doing most things herself and she did look after us well, despite seeming very new so that was much appreciated.

Good service, but the Menu had a few items which were not available, which was strange for a Saturday evening. On the positive side they accommodated a party of 14 at very short notice.

Really need to sort out order taking at the bar. Ordering a bacon sandwich and a coffee is painfully slow especially with seven in the group

Book table for 8 turned up with 13 .you sorted extra spaces food all arrived to table prompt and hot and we all enjoyed are meals.will come again thanks John l

Visited today for lunch taking my lovely mum out. Lovely country pub and welcomed when we arrived. Service was very good by a lovely lady Suzy who took our drinks and food order. Didn’t have to wait too long before the food arrived. Food was very well presented, piping hot and well presented. Compliments to chef Max 👏👏. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Would visit again

My wife myself son and daughter in law booked for Sunday lunch, I must say that we found it to be a most relaxed atmosphere and the food was excellent, we were served by Ella who was charming,polite and friendly and a great asset to the your business. Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon.

Locating a local spot open on a Monday lunchtime proves challenging, and discovering one that delivers both excellent food and service seems nearly impossible. By chance, we came across the Bunk Inn and were pleasantly surprised. The service was commendable, and our ordered food arrived promptly, featuring high-quality ingredients and delightful flavours. I highly recommend this venue and plan to return.

We stayed just one night before after a long late flight into Heathrow. Despite arriving late and leaving early we were welcomed by the friendly staff and made to feel at home. The room was really well furnished and equipped, with a really comfortable bed. We enjoyed an amazing breakfast (at a cost) in the lovely pub the next day. Highly recommended.

I went to The Bunk last night with friends. We rarely get together and were looking forward to an evening out. To start with we were told there were no steaks at all. After 15 minutes we had to chase to actually order drinks! 15 minutes later, no drinks and the waiter came back saying they don’t have the ingredients to make a Pornstar Martini. Every drinks order we had to chase because it just didn’t arrive. Despite ordering our food and the waiter reading back our order, one of the starters was missing. The service was terribly slow. To top it off we were taking advantage of the free starter or dessert and it took them 25 minutes to get the bill right! Appalling! It’s a real shame as the food was excellent. It really did ruin a nice evening with friends. Disappointing.

We obviously visited on a busy night (although it didn't seem that full) as they'd run out of some dishes. The waiter seemed to be a new starter and wasn't as confident as he might have been but I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon.

Made a large booking of 28, and for some reason (despite being told we would be spread over 5 tables) come the day we were all shoved onto a table no where near big enough in a cramped space. Made the whole meal extremely uncomfortable. On top of that, the food was rubbish and the service mediocre. I would not recommend this place.

Disappointing to say the least! We came in New Years Eve for their New Years Eve Event - 3 course meal and quiz. I didn’t even mind that the service was So Slow as we weren’t in a rush. But the meals were appalling!! Seriously,...

We were in the restaurant on the evening of 30th December as a party of 10 for an 18th birthday celebration. The food was first class, delivered as promised, portion sizes were just right and it was hot and very tasty. We loved the food. Our waiter was polite but clearly not comfortable with what he was doing - I got the impression that this wasn't his normal role. The service from the bar was awful though, we were in the venue for 3 hours (we were booked to stay longer) and managed 3 rounds of drinks to the table, the average wait for drinks from order to delivery was 30 minutes. For context, there were total 18 guests in the pub, my 10, another table of 6 and a table of 2. There were 3 members of staff on duty, our waiter/food runner and 2 members of bar staff. So there clearly was not a staffing issue causing the delays. At one point we went to investigate why our drinks were taking so long and found the bar staff were setting up the breakfast section for the next morning. I finally ran out of patience when our waiter poured coffee over my sister in law and could only manage to mumble something about napkins, so we asked our taxi to come and get us. There were no apologies for delays in service, no offers of money off or taking some drinks off the bill - we did get given some scratch cards to 'win' between 15% - 25% off our next visit - which felt like an ironic gesture given the circumstances. We won't be returning, back of house did a fantastic job, front of house let them down.

We live locally and enjoy popping in for a drink by the fire but hadn’t eaten there for sometime so booked a Christmas meal with friends. We all had the pie which was excellent! The staff struggled to cope with a very busy night but...

We waited over 40 minutes between starters and mains despite me chasing twice. When mains arrived they were either tepid or cold! It would appear they could not cope with the number of covers. After complaining we did get a 25% discount but it didn’t...

Stayed here at the start of the month. Booked a reservation for food, which was delicious and served with a smile. Slight wait on drink however they did have entertainment booked, a singer who was enjoyable! So could understand a busy bar delaying our drinks...
