Our go to local,new owners have transformed the pub to a very welcoming,dog friendly pub which offers food now 😍

Found this pub on a Sunday walk. Wanted to get a pint but ended up with roast dinners. We had beef and chicken. It was great. Love the food, the people are fantastic and the pub offers comfy seating area, a spacious conservatory and a big garden (with tent!), best for children, furry friends and apparently you can have your events here too! The food was gorgeous… the horseradish is another level altogether!!!!! I’ll definitely come back again.

I've Lived within 400m of this pub for many years and only went in for the 1st time Christmas day, and then I was asked if I wanted to go here for a Sunday dinner and it was the best roast lamb that I've had in a long time, there was a large crowd of us the bar was busy and when the food came out it was all together unlike some places where it comes in dribs and drabs, the staff were very friendly, the price is very reasonable and the atmosphere was lively, we're going again soon, already got a booking 😋

We held a wake for a family member here. Helen and all her staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Good communication with Helen. Food was plentiful and a good quality. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous Sunday roast dinner - lamb, nans special roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were amazing. Great pub as a stop on way to Heathrow just off M4. A warm welcome and log fire.

Had my mum's surprise 80th Birthday outside in the tepee. A lovely venue and the buffet was amazing. Everyone said how lovely everything was. Bar staff are so friendly and just a great place for events. A massive 'Thank you' to Helen and all your staff for making us feel so welcome.

Helen catered for a funeral wake and she’s just brilliant! Everything was seamless from start to end. Beautiful garden, delicious food and the staff were just lovely. We will definitely be back again. Thank you all for making our Mum/Nans send off so special ♥️

This pub is fantastic! The food is excellent, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are wonderful. The landlord and landlady truly pour their heart and soul into this place, making it a great venue all year round. Highly recommended!

Absolutely amazing place for everything. Food, entertainment and hospitality

There is a lovely lady that works in here 3:30-7:30 Monday to Thursday and I just have to say her customer service is sensational! She goes above and beyond for every customer and I cannot say enough positive things about her. She has a positive happy go lucky attitude everytime I see her and it just makes me want to keep on coming back! Pub is brilliant beer is brilliant and landlord & landlady are brilliant!

They are working hard at renovating the great beer garden and I am looking forward to the summer and enjoying it in all it’s its glory. Whatever day you visit, you will be welcomed. Excellent pub. Loads always going on. Great friendly bar staff. Helen & Ian have done wonders with the pub and still more to come. Good to see bar food back on.

Great food at the weekends. A great local pub where everyone is welcome. Wonderful fireplace with comfy seats. Great prices on drinks and the new owners are making a big difference for the whole community

Desirably ordinary in a refreshingy old fashioned way. Very cis-masculine. One of very few old buildings in a sea of 60's suburbia. A welcome oasis for ale, decent Guinness and crisp lager. Very local; it's the only pub for miles - as the door closes behind you a hush may ripple through it. Owners - friendly. Regulars - a bit edgy, probably friendly if not a bit territorial/judgemental. Heating on high and sports screens all around. Games: darts, scrabble, chess etc. available and a back room to retreat to, to play them. No chips, probably for the best. Wet-led. Sofa by the fire, nice toilets, carpet, no pool table, hard floor out back, visiting-on-lead dogs welcome, car park with smoking terrace. A back garden as yet unseen. You'll probably stay for another pint.

Took my dogs here the owners are fabulous and the locals are very welcoming Sadly one member of there staff who looks after this pub is a bit grumpy We all know that dogs have a little bark but my dog wasn’t continuously barking Keep your dog under control or your out

Excellent pub. Friendly staff and locals, real cider available as well as well-kept ales. Option to play darts was taken up and fun was had. Its a bit outside my patch but I look forward to revisiting this pub and would consider it worth the extra effort to get there.

It’s a very unusual pub for the area in as much as it’s a proper drinking establishment and the bar staff are very friendly especially on a Wednesday early evening. It’s a lovely old fashioned pub and the second best pub in Tilehurst behind The Royal Oak

Cosy little pub, staff pleasant helpful and friendly. Toilet clean and well maintained. Parking available. No longer serving food unfortunately (since covid lockdowns). Would return if in area.

Well , very good atmosphere and the beer very good, and staff all good , it's a shame its a long drive from my place, shame its not my local,

Not the best pub but that's mainly because of the clientele and the intrusive TVs showing whatever sports happen to be on everywhere you can possibly sit, even when nobody's watching. Beer not great and limited choice, usual Amstel, Kronenbourg, Guinness and John Smith's (didn't even think that was still a thing) and usually two real ales. It would be a far nicer place were it not for all the loud, obnoxious blokes swearing and shouting at the bar, especially when they get excited playing darts. Especially unwelcoming if you're the only woman in the place aside from the bar staff. Not a very pleasant atmosphere if you're a women. The garden is big but not even close to achieving its potential and the covered area is only good to sit in if you're a smoker. Picnic tables are shabby, uncomfortable and need replacing. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming though and it's dog friendly. But it needs to attract a more balanced mix of people and get a slightly better choice of beers. Be interesting to see what it's like if they start doing food again. I won't give up hope as it could be so nice.

Top notch selection of craft beer from many local small breweries. Very nice outside seating area too. My only (minor) complaint is it's quite expensive, but that seems to come with the craft beer territory.

I felt extremely confortable in this pub under present circumstances. The utmost care is being taken with sanitisation, track and trace and social distancing. Enjoy!

Great local pub, will kept ale and friendly staff and locals. I didn't eat but the snacks were good. Car park fairly cosy with only a few spaces. Accessibility for disabled may be difficult due to the physical building.

This is an excellent pub. Very friendly and welcoming. It clearly has a lot of regular local customers which is always a good sign. Food is not served every day but it is very good indeed - try the jam sponge and custard. I wish I had a local like this but, sadly, I live too far away to use it regularly.

Best pub in Tilehurst - or for miles around!

i was visiting relatives over the Easter holiday not seen for some time in the past we have visited the fox and hounds Tilehurst for a bite to eat i understand it has changed hands in the last few years since i last visited. but all ways been good drink and a small bite to eat and a chat well all i can say is how it has gone down hill since my last visit some year a go it looks like to pub has had some work carried out but not sure what it,s trying to achieve the problem started when i went to the bar to order food and drinks i could not believe the language i was hearing in a family pub from other customer in the bar area ,,,is this normal ? i found it most embarrassing to hear and i am sure the nice young lady serving at the bar wasn't to impressed i was in their with relatives in their late 60s and early 70s and i just hoped they dint hear any of what was being said i guess it was the landlord dint take any notes and seamed to be more interested in spend his time playing with his phone and not really interested in the customers only had two real ales on the standard doombar what is sold up and down every pub in Britten and another one that seamed to be on it,s last legs past it,s best the food was ok and hot but on the expensive side for a pub i also found the gents toilets look like to floor not been cleaned for weeks and the hand drier dint work would i go back ,no next time i am visiting relatives there plenty of other put to chose from in the surrounding area how a nice old pub can change in a few years

Old style pub, good beer and low ceilings!

The beer is in good condition, and you shall more than likely receive a warm welcome in this local pub. Carpets at the front and plenty of sport on show, you may well feel like you are at home.

Popped in for lunch and had their version of the Stack Burger. Wow is all I can say. I couldn't finish it there was that much. Good to see a sign up letting people know there is a Christmas beer festival. Will be returning to try some new real ales

A small local pub. Small both in terms of the numbers of people that can fit in, and in terms of height (I hit my head in there last week on a beam which had a "mind your head" sign on it). Tends to be different crowds depending on time of day and the day of the week - early evening its people finishing work, so mid thirties upward. Evenings older folk. Nice atmosphere, no trouble. Landlord is an ok sort.

A great pub, good bar food, lovely staff.

They serve great cold beer, they have a simple decent menu and a lovely garden with swings and a climbing house. Cant think what more you need from a local family pub!

Customer service on zero points. They refused to do anything gluten free as I have high allergy to gluten. They also wouldn't aloud me to eat other gluten free food what I brought with me! We had to leave. There was 7of us, so they could have really good profit. I wouldn't rate a star 🌟 if possible.

This is an Intesting place. You never quite now what your going to get. One day it could be really crowded the others, it could be quite calm. But over all the pub is rearly nice and welcominget. It is also dog friendly which is always a plus.

Good local pub, with a welcoming. atmosphere. Good choice of beers etc. Large family friendly garden. We also had a blt sandwich which came with a side salad and was excellent value and very tasty.

Great pub, great staff, great beer.

Popped in for a bit of lunch. Never been before, but we had a very generous sausage sandwich each and shared a portion of chips. Great value for money too. The pub is small, but looks like it is a survivor and a credit to its local community.

I had the most perfect pint of Guinness poured for me.

We have had some nice meals here, Service is always good, foods is exactly as described and not too expensive.

Friendly - fun and great food - love the Fox and Hounds and Liza and Tom are great patrons. Check out their Beer Festival in May - its always fun.

They have a couple of good ales on tap. The bar staff and locals were very friendly when we visited on the Wednesday night CTC ride.

Walked in via the back. Restaurant resembles a seaside cafe in a forgotten coastal town with plastic tables and laminated menus. No staff in sight, spent ten minutes at the bar waiting to be served and thought better of it. Only two ales on. The food could have been nice, shame we weren't made to be keen to find out.

I didn't eat here, but have been to the pub many times and they do some really decent real ales and in particular Doombar. Great beer!

Poor selection of beers, Doom Bar and London Pride - uninspired.
