Came here with Friends, the Sunday roast's are exceptional. Parking here can be a bit of an issue, as the car park is quite small, however, there is plenty of parking on the green opposite if you have a 4x4.

The sea bass starter was fresh, flavoursome with a slightly crispy skin. I was very impressed. If you are a fan of pork belly, the main in the picture is a must. Packed full of flavour and surrounded by crackling, the rich gravy fresh vegetables and creamy dauphinoise really complement. The cheerful service and busy atmosphere make the Elm Tree a great place to visit. Highly recommend 👌

This place is excellent, we really enjoyed our time here! Both the locals and the staff were really friendly and welcoming and there were plenty of seats. Dogs are welcome and they even have jars of biscuits! The food is absolutely amazing, the portion sizes are HUGE and not too expensive. We had the Olives and Padron Peppers and cheesy chips - all very tasty! Hopefully going back there in the future!

Thank you guys. We came, without a booking and with a Great Dane and a baby, for lunch today and the food was excellent. The staff were also lovely - the young lady, I think it was her first week, was really great - she made our little one smile and made us feel really welcome. The gent there also made my in-laws (American/mexicans) feel really welcome. We’ll definitely be back again.

Firstly in the summer, the view over the fields from the outside area is pretty nice. I don’t often like a pub roast, they tend to be extremely average and overpriced for something you can do a lot better and cheaper at home. However I do enjoy the roast here. Generous portion size and pretty tasty. I don’t think it will ever beat a home cooked roast but it’s pretty good. The staff have always been great. The price for the roast is what I’d call fair. I haven’t had any of the normal menu but will definitely check it out one evening. Overall a great pub.

Absolutely awesome evening. The service was great, friendly welcoming and above all else the best dining experience we have ever had. This was our first visit and we only live 10 mins away, we have been missing out!! We ordered a simple nibble, my favourite, padron peppers 🌶️ they were delicious! We both ordered a burger, I ordered mine deconstructed as I like mine in bite size chunks, rather than all in a bun (I know a little fussy). My word I could not believe how amazed I was when I saw the chef bringing it out for me, followed by the landlord with my wife's burger. This was the best service we have ever had. The burgers constructed and deconstructed were absolutely delicious and huge portion size (wish I could eat it all). I was over the moon with the service, delivery, food and best of all the homemade chilli that the landlord gave to us to take home (maybe I should not have shared this, but, what a touch of kindness). We will definitely, definitely be eating / visiting here again. Thank you Jaz (Head Chef) and Adrian (Landlord) for making our date evening one to remember. ❤️

Lovely setting overlooking the countryside with places to sit inside and out. Staff were friendly and there was a reasonable menu choice. A drink and a main was about £20. Half the seats outside, I’d have said, were designed to sit out on a patio with a drink. Unfortunately they were used to eat at the table, so were far too low, inappropriate and uncomfortable, and I’m 6ft tall. We had booked a table so were sat down and given menus. The pub was busy, but it shouldn’t have taken nearly fifty mins to take our food order. It was an hour and twenty mins before the food appeared. Some people had starters which they enjoyed. The mains were disappointing however. I had battered fish, chips and peas. The chips were dry on the inside, the peas appeared to be peas in pods which had been blitzed in a processor. This was very unappetising as pieces of hard stalk remained. Everyone who had this menu choice didn’t finish either the chips or peas. The batter was greasy and hard, rather than light and crispy, and whether the fish was cooked or not was debatable.. An hour after we’d finished someone came and took half the plates away. We weren’t asked if we wanted desserts or any other drinks, and it took three attempts to get the bill. I’ve not been to this pub before so can’t comment on if I was unlucky on the wait and the quality of cooking. Yes, the pub was busy, but if you take bookings for that number of people all wanting to eat at the same time, you need to have the appropriate levels of kitchen and waiting staff, or stagger the seating times.

Outrageously brilliant! We love the Elm Tree. The food, staff and ambience are wonderful. The Bourek and sea bass starters and pork and aubergine doubara on the mains are great and the falafel burger is excellent too. Adie and Ryan run a highly efficient ship out front and Yaz and Michaela and team are awesome in the kitchen. The staff and all very attentive and lovely. We had an outdoor table booked for two and were shown to a table with just one chair. After having sat down for 5 minutes once a second chair was arranged we were asked to move table to accommodate for what I understand to be a group of locals who hadn't booked, but wanted a nicer table to sit and drink. The manager was rude, and the waiting staff woeful. We sat and waited for 20 minutes before anyone came to even ask for a drink order as we had gotten up to leave the restaurant. Single handedly the worst pub experience I have ever had. Such a disappointment as the venue was quite lovely.

We have had dinner at the Elm Tree several times and the food and service has always been outstanding! To celebrate our daughter going travelling we came up for lunch and were not disappointed. A beautiful sunny day and you could have been in the hills in the med with stunning views from the terrace watching the combining. Michaela, Tilly and Pedro are awesome in the kitchen - Michaela’s lemon cheesecake special needs to be a main dessert! The portion sizes are great and the Mediterranean salad was delicious. The chicken Caesar salad also looked delicious and very substantial. Service as ever was excellent with the ever efficient Rory behind the bar, Tom taking our orders and the always entertaining Ryan making sure everyone was happy, with a hint of that inimitable dry wit. Really can’t fault any of the meals we have had at the Elm Tree in the last 6 months. Adie and team are doing a fantastic job and the staff are lovely. Keep it up!

What can I say - The Elm Tree is an incredible country pub. I moved to the area in the last year and came across the pub when looking for a Sunday lunch spot. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the place. The staff, particularly Adrian, the new landlord, and Ryan, who took over as front of house, are fantastic. They're not only professional but also incredibly welcoming, making every visit special. In a testament to the kitchen staff, particularly Yazz & Mikaela - the Sunday roast at The Elm Tree is, hands down, the best I've ever had. I've taken many friends and family there, and they all agree with me. But it's not just the Sunday roast that stands out; the regular menu is also outstanding. The quality of the food is always on point, with every dish showcasing the care and expertise of the kitchen. Also, my partner is vegetarian with specific dietary preferences, and they consistently excel in accommodating these, offering tailored and satisfying options that cater perfectly to her needs! The atmosphere in the pub is just as impressive. We were welcomed with open arms and have always felt comfortable there. It's more than just a place to eat and drink; it's a community hub where we've made friends with the staff and other locals alike. This was particularly great for us, having only recently moved into the area. Moreover, The Elm Tree's dog-friendly nature has been perfect for our 2-year-old Black Lab, Jango, who loves visiting as much as we do, especially to see Ady and the team. I truly see The Elm Tree as our local pub, and I hope to spend many more years enjoying its friendly atmosphere, delicious food, great beer and excellent service. It's clear that this place is not just a business but a passion for those who work there, and that's what makes it so special.

We went on a fine day and the views were phenomenal. The wheelchair access is on the main road where you cannot park - even stopping for the wheelchair user to get out is a bit dangerous. REALLY recommend this place. Went there for a Xmas party with 40 cyclists of “advancing years” (so a bit of forgetting what they’d ordered) arriving in wet kit (so lots of needing to hang / dry damp cycle clothing) and they did a really good job of making everyone comfortable and getting everyone served in good time and getting what I ordered. Plus when it was clear that, despite a couple of requests to the (younger and clearly not super experienced) staff for my extra veggies that they had, indeed, been forgotten, I spoke to the manager and he resolved it very quickly. The best bit is the Food! I eat a lot of pies and a the chicken and tarragon was without a doubt the best I’d ever had! absolutely delicious. Don’t be put off by the slightly wacky decor. Personally I think it gives it a fun family feel

Fab 👌 roasted spuds and all veg cooked to perfection. All brought together with a decent gravey. Sticky toffee pudding to finish 😋 plate picked clean 😋 👌 All in all a good do was had by all. Possibly the best Sunday pub lunch we've had in a long while. Meat tender enough for the old folk with plenty of gravy. Delicious vegan options that would shame most establishments, who seem to think a generic chickpea and sweet potato curry is good enough - as though vegan people don't enjoy food or eating (unless it's a mushy chilli type affair) and vegetarian options to match. Everyone felt happy, well fed and included. Plus friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Well done The Elm. We shall be back!!

We have just had a wonderful well cooked, well presented, extremely tasty and good valued dinner at The Elm Tree, Beech Hill Road, Beech Hill, near Reading, Berkshire. We had a lovely welcoming from the proprietor Adrian who couldn’t do enough for us and was so caring and considerate. His chef Yazz was amazing and came out from the kitchen to see if everything was ok and that our steaks had been cooked to our liking. He was obviously so passionate about his cooking and wanting to ensure everything was just right. He really wanted to make sure we had a great experience. There was also a young waiter called Rory who was Courteous, well mannered and had a very pleasant disposition when serving the food. He just added to the whole experience. It is not often that I want to do any reviews, so this is a rarity, but being so impressed I really needed to leave one. If you find yourself down that way I would thoroughly recommend visiting this establishment for a culinary delight and staff with plane old fashioned values.

I was a little sceptical as our booking was at the end of service, but the Sunday roast was amazing. Now, myself and my son both have a good appetite but we were beaten by the amount served. Ample portion of roasted meat of choice and more than enough veg selection to go with it. No room for pud! Beware, your plate will come swimming in thick meaty gravy, which is fine for me but not everyone, so ask for it on the side if you prefer. Excellent attentive and polite service too.

Visited the Elm Tree for my Mums birthday, party of 6 adults with my 15m old Daughter. We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our table on the outdoor patio. The view across the local countryside is lovely and despite being very busy our table felt intimate. There is an excellent team of staff who were very attentive at all times servicing the needs of all customers. I have been to many pubs over the years where during busy times the service level drops but not here. Our drinks and then food orders were all taken in a timely manner with a laugh and joke shared. We went on a Sunday which has its own menu but is still very extensive considering the limited options you sometimes see with weekend service. The food was very tasty and presented excellently with generous portions. Several drinks later and two courses down we enjoyed the rest of our time in the fresh air where we were surprised by the staff singing happy birthday. All in all I can not recommend this pub enough. I have been here many times over the years and it is always great. I learned there has been a recent change of Landlord but all of the pubs qualities endure and Adrian and the team should be very proud of the environment they create. Please support this pub and if you haven’t already call in for a bite to eat. Thank you again team, lovely day with Family.

The outside area is relatively pleasant despite being on a main road. Inside is less pleasant particularly the loos which are in need of a bit of work - 2 loos in the ladies, only one has a working lock. Service and atmosphere both severely lacking. We live in zone 1 central London and the pricing here was so shocking to us that it warrants commenting. I will not return.

Our large group couldn't fault in the quality and variety of wonderful starters, main courses and desserts served hot with a smile and plenty of assurance we had everything we required. Despite the portions being very generous, everybody cleared their plates and talked about how wonderful the food and service was in this delightful pub. Many plan on returning with their families.

I don't think I could praise the Elm Tree more highly. We were 20 minutes late on a busy day. We rang and were told it was absolutely no problem. On arrival everyone was charming and service swift. The food, my goodness. Delicious (we had roast chicken, roast lamb, fish and chips) and huge portions. The setting is beautiful, with lovely views despite being about 10 mins south of Reading. I've been lucky to eat in many lovely country pubs around Reading. I would rate the Elm Tree the best.

Thank you Adrian and the team for making a 70th birthday truly memorable. We sat outside for drinks and melt in your mouth halloumi fries. Inside for delicious pâté, roasted pork and all the trimmings. Table was decorated and we had a surprise brownie pud adorned with candles - lots of fun and great food. Wonderful to see the pub busy and buzzing inside and out. Can’t wait to go back!

Lovely place in the country with views over the rolling hills. Had the falafel starter and the quiche. Both excellent as was the side salad. Will go again.

Jo and I used to live nearby 30 years ago and decided to have dinner at the Elm Tree for old times sake. WoW what a wonderful surprise to find such a great pub restaurant with fabulous views over open countryside. We have two large dogs who were both welcomed as we were by the manger and enjoyed the dog biscuit they were given on arrival! A pint of Timothy Taylors preceded one of the finest meals we have had for a long time! Great presentation, flavour and quality that would have graced the tables on Master Chef! When we paid the very reasonable bill we asked to pass our compliments to the chef who promptly appeared to thank us for eating with them - Michaela was simply delightful and a young lady who clearly has a very bright future ahead of her. Well done all at the Elm Tree if there were 6 stars you would have cleaned up!

Sadly the lamb Sunday lunch was swamped with gravy and the lamb itself was disappointing

Sat outside this wonderful country pub with lovely views. Friendly landlord engaged us in conversation. Halloumi sandwich and chips, just what we needed. If I didn't live 3 hours away I'd be here all the time.

Despite Adrian being an Arsenal support we had a lovely lunch! He has just taken over the pub and we just popped in for a bit of lunch on Bank holiday Monday (after the King’s Coranation) he was very friendly and welcoming. Food was great and an added bonus it’s dog friendly. We will definitely be visiting again soon

Oh wow! We weren’t expecting such an amazing experience! We’ve just moved to the area and been trying out the local places to eat from pubs to Michelin Star restaurants. It was a Sunday evening so we usually find this is not the best day to try a new restaurant but it was the only day we had! This however, didn’t influence our experience on this occasion! We were truly impressed with the food ( my duck was delicious as too was my wife’s, crispy skin salmon)! The wine list was extensive and more unusual than normal establishments. The service was friendly and just right too! Highly recommend A+++. Thank you

Stopped off on the way back from Old Basing house for lunch. The service was very good and the food was as well. We had the fish and chips off the main menu, and it was very good. Just one comment was a member of staff cleaned a table behind us and used so much spray on the table we could taste it We parked opposite the church as the pub doesn't have a carpark, but there is parking across the road as well

Excellent service from a very enthusiastic young man. Unfortunately several dishes were not up to the usual standard. The pork rib eye and beef feather were very good and presented well. The tandoori prawns on Naan bread were a poor substitute for the old garlic prawns and more reminiscent of a TV dinner. The chicken schnitzel presentation was poor. It came without the coronation mayonnaise and there could be more imagination with the salad which was just little gem cut up. Flavour, however, was good. The hot drink with small pudding was a winner as usual and delicious.

Have been a few times and it’s been nice but today it seems the owner was around for the first time that I’ve seen him. His attitude was something I can’t explain, rude to say the least! Comes across very intimidating and only seems to favour his regulars… after speaking to other regulars they all said he’s not been around for a while and that he likes to push his weight around when he’s on site. Definitely will not be going again. Shame really….. typical Irish
