The Cornish Bakery in Portsmouth

Only paper cups, no plates, no salt, no coke, loud music, unfriendly staff. I wondered why it was almost empty on a warm and sunny day. Now I know. Avoid. It’s worth waiting for a table in any other cafe in Portsmouth.

Sampled the croissants, pain au chocolat and pain au raisin with a pot of tea and a coffee. All served by attentive staff who were polite and on top of serving customers, clearing and cleaning tables and refreshing stock, I say this as although this seems the basics so many places don't do this well.

As a home barista with all the kit I rarely drink coffee out as it's usually awful but here made with a decent quality bean from Union you could actually taste the coffee and it was very drinkable, the hot chocolate wasn't over sweet which again is a massive improvement on most places, both served a little too hot but that's being very critical. The pastries were superb, the staff very pleasant and the establishment comfortable. Will call again and would recommend.

Took my grandchildren and it took them ages to decide what one to have as they like the sound of them all. Staff were very friendly and patient with them . Lovely family atmosphere will be going on our next day out .

The best sausages rolls around. Clean with friendly staff. I’ll definitely be back for more and might try something else! Get in ma belly!

We always pop in here when we visit Gunwharf or on the way home from the cinema. We order pasties to take home. You can't beat a traditional pasty. They also sell some lovely pastries which my daughter loves. Never tried their coffee or sat in to eat. Maybe it's time I did !

It was a lovely and calming building. The had a great wide range of drinks on offer. I really loved seeing Natasha’s law being carried out on every food on display! ☺️ Although, it would be nice to see some pre-packed free from cakes or pasties etc. Like I am gluten free and nut free and the only thing suitable for me was a packet of crisps.

First time at The Cornish Bakery and I wasn’t disappointed. What a lovely bright and airy space, the service was great. The staff were friendly, which is always a bonus. Most importantly the coffee was fab, what more could I ask for really. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend!

Wow wow wow! Hands down the greatest pasties I have ever tasted. The taste the texture the warmth was heavenly. My advice if you’re ever in Portsmouth don’t be a donut and go to the Cornish bakery! Staff was extremely polite and helpful great vibe and experience

This was the best Croissant we have ever tasted !! Really heavy because its full of cherry pie filling and almond paste, topped with loads and loads of sliced almonds and icing sugar. I nearly couldn't finish mine but I battled on hahahaha Really special and definitely recommend Thanks Guys x

Went to the store today as wanted to see what had been done while they had been closed for a refurbishment, as always wasn't disappointed. The shop looks lovely and bright. The coffee was excellent and the staff as friendly as ever.

The window advertised gluten free was available. I went in and asked what I could have and was told I could have the vegan pasty. Even if this was gluten free (which it wasn't) it was touching other pasties, therefore it was contaminated. Not good when you are a coeliac. They should train their staff to be more knowledgeable or not advertise gf

The staff here are so helpful and we had a lovely coffee and a piece of Cornish pudding before a lovely day shopping. Ideally placed at the entrance so you get hit by the wonderful smell of the bakery before you can see it.

We went into this cafe for a coffee and whilst one of us was going to queue, the rest of our party of four went to look for a table. We were all shouted at by a member of staff who told us to queue first, then find a table. Most unusual as it only takes one person to order drinks and food. We said that one of us would go to the counter but she still insisted on yelling at us. So we turned around and walked out. This member of staff needs a crash course in customer relations. We went to Pret A Manger next door instead. No problems there. Wouldn’t mind but the cafe we left was virtually empty anyway. Their loss.

Guys behind the counter nice but unfortunately we had a 2 inch hair on our jam pot! When we called the table server over to tell her, she just took it off us without an apology to start with and instead of getting a new one, she just wiped the hair off with her cloth, leaving the pot nice and wet! Not the best customer service especially as her sole job was to clear and clean the tables but ours had tea spilt all over it and she didn’t even offer to clean it before we sat down. Instead she just stood by the tables watching everyone and not doing much else! Not happy

This is a review for a takeaway large Cornish pastyThe pastie was as dry as old bones the pastry tough!The filling imo relied to heavily on pepper to mask it’s tastelessness.The meat wasn’t evenly distributed throughout the pasty indeed it was all at one end great lumps and clumps of dried meat , it ended up in the bin.Very poor wouldn’t want to repeat the experience.

that can one say about the cornish bakery sorry not a lot the places dont except the coin of the realm. not impressed at all.

Food wise, fine but the actual place doesn't feel/look clean at all. Food all over the floor, tables covered in used crockery/cups etc that were not cleared from previous guests, the tables that were clear were noticeably dirty. So its not too pleasant from the start. Cutlery was not that clean either. Unfortunately those issues far outweighed the food etc as we just wanted to finish and leave as you can't really relax surrounded by that.

Not a good experience really everything always too much trouble. Miserable staff, tables full of used crockery won’t be returning there’s plenty of other places to choose from.

Excellent pasties but best thing ever is the 'Cornish pudding'. Mouth watering, consistency of Bread pudding but with blueberry , white chocolate etc, all soaked in cream. Gorgeous.

Started our shopping at Gunwharf having coffee and pastries here early Saturday morning and the staff were the friendliest and most helpful they could be .We bought pasties to take home after our trip and they kindly let us collect them on the way back .We did this the last 2 weeks and would thoroughly recommend.Keep up the good work girls thank you
