Porters in Portsmouth

This is our go to when we come to Southsea to go to the Kings Theatre. Located handily just accross the road, its friendly, the food is good, the quality is good and the pricing cheap. Next time we are at the Kings we will return.

Seen them posting on Instagram and it looked awesome. Right up my street. Decided to go for our anniversary and try something different. It was a Sunday when they opened. Nice and quiet. Clean and comfortable. The menu is small, but there is enough to mix and match. Nice selection of drinks and all reasonable priced. When the food came, we were shocked! The portions are huge! We shared a pulled pork burrito and chicken nachos. We were stuffed. Each dish was packed full of flavour. Made with fresh ingredients and you can taste it isn't corporate packet stuff. 10/10. Highly recommend and are planning on returning with friends.

Feel food is outdated and not as nice as it used to be! Menu needs jazzing up! Used to have specials but not any more! Boring same stuff!

I am absolutely disgusted with the service in this place. We were 8 of us for a birthday night and one young skinny with long black hair waitress asked us to move to a table that was smaller than the one we were already. When she said "Do you mind to change table?" Well, I didn't but when I saw the table we were being change to, I then said to her, "Actually, yes, I do mind. They're 8 of us and the table is too small for all of us" She then gave me the "look". Me and others were not happy the move but we still did so. At this point, I then saw, the waitress and other staff in the kitchen looking at me through the window so I went to see them and was going to ask if we could be change back as there was not enough room for all of us and before I could say that, the other staff said to me turn around, walk away. I was absolutely gobsmacked. I went back to my friends and before you know it. The 2 doormen came to our table and told me that I made their staff uncomfortable and that I needed to leave????? We all left disgusted and went somewhere else to carry on our birthday party. This place is unbelievable, no respect for customers that questions their actions. I will never go there again.

Absolutely awful service. Staff are untrained and speak down to customers. Will never visit that pub ever again, that's for sure!

Bar tender was a bit uppity felt he was “too good” to make cocktails, there was a fly on my glass when I went to drink thank god I had a straw and there’s so dusty old cupboard with an empty mouldy mayonnaise bucket we didn’t even get there late just past 8:30 so felt like a pisstake also the signal was shit and they had no public wifi

Came in with a group of friends for a couple drinks and asked for a cocktail which was denied by the ginger "strawberry blonde" bartender with no explanation yet other people were able to get rums and vodka with no trouble. One of my party also then heard him state that he didn't look like a guy who made cocktails to other patrons. Once sat down we found a used Mayo bucket which had mold covering the bottom of it. Would not recommend this pub.

Popped into Porters for some food before the show at the theatre across the road. Ordered e burgers and chips Nachos and a veggie option. Burgers were under cooked so were sent back. The replacement Burgers came out overcooked and like an old boot. Nachos were tasteless Veggie option ok but not worth the money. Will not be returning for food.

Came in as a large group over Goodwood FOS weekend. Great choice of beer. Food was good but nothing memorable.

The Diet Coke had a funny taste, but the burger and chips were nice. A friendly welcome.

Amazing food, amazing craft ale (solar days) and amazing atmosphere, will be visiting again in future. Keep it up guys.

Great beer and seating outside in the sun

Had a nice meal and a drink here with family members the food was a nice but there was a bit of a wait for it but then I guess it was cooked to order and there were lots of other diners to cater for. Overall its nice, I have used it before and would use again.

Popped in here for a meal before attending the Kings Theatre across the road. Great meal, sensible prices, cosy relaxed atmosphere and freindly helpful staff. All these things put together made for a great experience.

Amazing food and a great price! We had the burrito deal (£12 for a burrito, wedges and a drink). The drink can also be alcoholic. Definitely recommend it here!

Porters is always class. Great for food or a catch up and less hectic than the rest of the Albert Rodeo

Love this place. has a nice feel about it. We had the fajita's for two, absolutely fabulous. more than enough for us and we are big eaters . The price was amazing considering we were right opposite the theatre. been here a few times before going to the theatre and always been more than happy with the menu.

Booked for Sunday evening 7pm told sold out of pretty much everything so went to the excellent Indian Haldi instead, either improve your supply chain (it’s Sunday you know on average how many dishes you sell) or inform me before I arrive you can’t cover most of the Sunday menu

Went for Drinks with my colleagues, prompt service and nice selection. Only had chips to nibble on but they were nice

Superb place that serves very generous portions of tex mex food. Normally packed, so well worth booking a table if you want to eat. Decent selection of beers and right in the heart of Southsea strong island.

Another fantastic meal in here last night. The Burritos are to die for !! Really friendly service, good pricing and a clean bar and seating area. We always do BUT i would recommend booking tables as its always busy when something is on at The Kings Theatre and we always see people leaving because they cant get a table.

Located opposite The Kings Theatre, we decided to give it a go before a show last night. Great food. Fast service. Excellent pricing. We shall return, when we are next in the area.

Dog friendly! Plenty of choice on the menu, tacos, burritos, quesadilla, nachos and burgers. Me and my partner went for the tacos. We ordered one portion of the buffalo cauliflower tacos and one of the buttermilk halloumi tacos with a side of chips. Our friend had the burrito bowl. Everything was delicious and came out quickly. Service was efficient and you can sit inside or out.

The food wasn't great here. The chips were barely edible. Very greasy. I told the server but he wasn't bothered. The pepsi/coke tasted weird too. Second time coming for food and both times haven't been nice. Shame, as I like the atmosphere in this pub and the tables are spaced apart but won't risk it again.

Great food, good prices. Amazing portion sizes! Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Only down side was a group of VERY loud, drunken men at the next table, shouting and swearing and making crude comments loudly for everyone else to hear.

Nice pub with local fresh Ales and Mexican style food

Honestly I'm not trying to be cruel but it was not only expensive ( so I was expecting more) but it was in-edible. Had the chicken burger and chips. Can't be to bad right? The chips were so caked in old grease you could not eat them but on top of that they literally came out black and brown!!! How even the waiter didn't notice is beyond me. The burger I tried to eat, but it was so greasy I had to leave it. I have never seen anything like it. Honestly disgusting. My partner had the cauliflower taco.... She has felt unbelievable sick since. 25may 2023 at 4pm whoever the chef working was, for the love of god fire him. I wouldn't want someone to loose a job but this is taking the piss. He couldn't cook a microwave meal. Truly disgusting. If it wasn't so absurd that it made me laugh I would have got angry. Don't waste your money untill they fix the cook with a swamp of a fryer. Your health will thank you. Good luck to the owner I hope you can pull it around. Internal sabotage with awful employes. Waiter seemed nice.

I visit often and the food is consistently good. The portion sizes are large and everything tastes fresh and always looks well presented. There is always a good selection of vegan options to choose from. I do think Porters would benefit from a slight refreshment of decor as it is looking a little tired. The toilets weren't the most clean on my recent visit.

The roast was amazing! Fresh ingredients, the meat was gorgeous, gravy I would argue better than Toby Carvery. I would have included maybe one more potato. But the yummy veg made up for it. Overall 10/10 roast. Staff was very friendly and helpful! I will be coming back!!

Really nice bar in Albert Road Southsea. Had a cple of gorgeous orange gin cocktails. Very nice. Friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Gave it 5 stars. Didn't eat there so that was the only reason for not star rating the food. I guess its probably good though 😀

I'm sorry, but both my chips and chicken burger were over fried. £15 is shocking for something barely edible. I feel cheated and should have asked for my money back.

Wonderful Sunday lunch. Food was fresh and seasonal. I had the nut roast and my husband went for the chicken. Everything was cooked well and portions were generous. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

Overall very nice service. Also a very cozy atmosphere if it hadn't been so cold. My two companions liked the food, but I didn't like it at all. The fries would have been pretty good on their own if they hadn't been drowned in grease. Unfortunately the burger was a complete failure. Boring bun, very few vegetables and the worst patty I've ever eaten. And I've eaten lots and lots of burgers. Extremely dry, far too small in relation to the patty and seasoned very hard to get used to. If I were in the city any longer, I would definitely give the pub another chance!

Great little restaurant / pub with a good choice of beers and wine. Good food menu, choices include nachos, burgers, fajitas and burritos as well as chicken, beef and vegetable roast on Sundays. Service can be a bit slow at busy times but well worth the wait. Highly recommend.

Had a roast at Porters today. Great company, lovely staff, good atmosphere, average food. Beef was lovely, roast potatoes just right, not home made Yorkies, carrots were hard, parsnips not roasted enough 😬 nice enough, but wouldn't go again. Not worth 16 quid ☹️

Great little venue with an intimate vibe and plenty of options for food and drink. Ordered nachos and mozzarella sticks which were decent, and got a nice deal too with a drink. Bartenders were friendly and pleasant to chat with, prices aren't too hefty either. Definitely worth a visit.

Fabulous food, fajitas, nachos, burritos all large and tasty portions. Outside seating on the pavement but with a real street vibe, good for people watching. Reasonable priced menue and good availability

Delicious food and friendly service

We wanted a coffee before the show at the Kings Theatre. Coffee was cold and not sure there was any coffee in the cup. Tasted of hot water and very weak coffee after taste. We were planning to grab something to eat after the show here but found another pub close by.. Will not visit here again.

The place was filthy dirty. The ceiling wasn’t finished and it just looked shabby. The tables hadn’t been wiped our daughter got her hands struck. The food was mediocre and my husbands steak was probably the worst piece of meat we’ve ever been served. The staff were grumpy. Definitely do not recommend.

Great food, lively atmosphere and friendly staff. The food took a little over 45 minutes to arrive but other than that the chicken burger was delicious; huge in size, and very filling along with the pulled pork nachos, which carried along flavour. The pork was a little dry but the multitude of sauces counterbalanced it all and made it taste amazing. Will definitely be back again.

Came with my family for the Sunday Roast and we all absolutely loved it, no complaints whatsoever. I had the vegan roast which was delicious, and I will definitely be coming back again and bring others. Nice drinks options too and a very chilled out vibes. I have also tried the Vegan Mexican options on the menu on other occasions and I can't fault them either, very tasty. Well worth the visit!

Sunday roast beef dinner was lovely. Just the right amount of food. £40 for 2 dinners & 2 pints I thought was a bit steep though.

Great place and food, had an issue with one order because we forgot to check if it had cheese, but there was no issue as they took it back and replaced it with no questions asked and they were really quick, definitely will be back!

It's a great little pub that also offers food. I've eaten and drank a few times here and each time it's been amazing. Their takeaway is just as good as eating in so that's another thing to consider. The music is always pretty chill and the staff are always friendly I would recommend.

We popped into Porters for lunch today. This place is amazing! Not only are the staff lovely, but their shredded mushroom tacos are out of this world! Please make these a standard option rather than a special. I highly recommend.

Porters’ menu is mainly Mexican food and last night we were served nachos but were told they’d run out of guacamole. The nachos also had only a tiny drizzle of watered down sour cream. Barely any cheese and cold beef chilli! We were gutted. First...

First meal out since lockdown, which didn't dissapoint. Delicious roast lamb and roast beef. Lovely sauvignon blanc and great service.

We came here looking for a drink and luckily there was space for us without booking. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to us, the drinks we got were priced similar to other pubs in the area. The setting was nice and the décor was lovely. The toilets were nice and clean which was nice. The staff was also very firm with complying with covid restrictions which made me feel at ease. I will be coming back here at some point. The drink selection wasn't great however but there was still some decent drinks available

An excellent bar considering the pandemic restrictions these businesses have to operate under!
