Treated my wife to an Arments pie and mash instead of going to London. The food was great, fresh, and hot. I had a seafood combo, but without the whitebait, a good selection of hot and cold fish. My wife had the Arments pie, mash, and liquor with a liberal splash of chilli vinegar. The specials board had a great selection. Will definitely be back to try out the Sunday Roast. Also it's so close to the beach.

We visited as an extended family of 4 generations and had a great evening. The team at the King Ethelbert Inn are friendly and accommodating and the menu is varied with something for everyone. A good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Generous portions freshly cooked to order. Nice outdoor spaces too.

We decided to visit this pub for lunch as it was recommended by a friend . We parked our car by the side of the pub to save paying to park in the nearby council car park which is quite expensive. We had pre booked our table and it was very busy inside by the time we left . We ordered the ploughman’s lunch between us with 5 extra items . When our meal arrived we were taken aback by the amount of food. The lunch was very pleasing to the palette and we will come back to try other items on their menu. Food serving times are 12:00 - 2:00 pm then 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Went here before last year during the summer and the food was great. So we thought we’d come along to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Sadly this time round, it was not the best experience. There were allot of small flies hovering around the dining area which you had to constantly swat away, the food although came quickly, was not the best quality. The curry I had was very bland and not that warm. My wife’s Scampi and Chips had a bug on it and despite showing this to our waitress who did apologise for this, we were not offered any sort of discount on our bill or anything complimentary to compensate for it. It’s a shame because the pub is lovely and has a great traditional vibe to it and a great spot for families and travellers coming to reculver.

Visited here many times without issue but yesterday one of our meals really was a disappointment. The haddock fish cakes from the specials board consisted of one very flat fish cake. The new potatoes were dark in colour overcooked to with an inch of their lives. Spoke to the waitress who said she made a mistake on the board and the meal was for one fish cake not two!!! Wouldn’t have minded if the fish cake was a decent size and content but sadly it wasn’t. Not value for the money which we think was £12.50.

We visited during a walk from Margate to Herne Bay. The King Ethelbert was 9 miles into our walk, right next door to the Reculver church ruin and Roman fort, so the perfect break for lunch just when we needed it. It's a classic locals' pub, well looked after, with an excellent menu of pub classics, and lots of canine visitors. Service was prompt, and even on a winter Saturday, it was pretty full, both inside and outside. There are a good selection of beer, including some local Kent choices. The whole atmosphere was comfortable, and the staff couldn't have been more kind or welcoming. It wasn't the day for it, but there's also a huge amount of outdoor space and parking.

Unfortunately a terrible experience. We ordered the Sunday roast. Young lad served us and brought all 4 roasts out. I started to eat mine but found part of a plastic bag in my vegetables. I beckoned the lad who served us and all he had to say was 'I only serve it' . Not a great attitude. He said 'Do you want me to take it back?'. I found that question absolutely terrible. I informed him to take it back. It appeared to be taking quite a long time and my husband asked one of the female bar staff if it was going to be served again. She replied that she will look into it and returned to say it needed to be cooked again. There was no apology from any of the staff or the kitchen staff. It was as though they just wanted to sweep it under the carpet Our friends and my husband were just finishing their dinners when I received mine again. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were quite hard. Probably been put in the microwave. What I can't believe is that there was no apology or anything...a really terrible experience.

Enjoyed our drink there so much we booked for dinner in the eve. So pleased with the level of homely and traditional pub grub we got. I've not had a suet steak pud that good since my nana made it, and the pork chop was so juicy. Also, Barry, on the bar was an absolute highlight. Today we were greeted with a sign at the door saying wait here to be served. The barman called us over and I said can we have a table for 3, he looked me up and down and said “yeah sit where you want”, nice!.. it was 4.50 pm and we wanted to have dinner, again the barman was abrupt and a tad rude “if you hurry up as we don’t take orders after 5pm” so we ordered and took our table. We overheard the kitchen staff moaning because an order had come through just before the kitchen closed. It made us feel awkward and uncomfortable. The barman had some banter with a local, he shouted across the pub “yeah fat steve” at this point I wanted to walk out.. I asked for a glass of Pinot Grigio and was given a white Cabernet savingon, it was served in a plastic half pint glass, not sure why as we were indoors. I didn’t complain about being served the wrong drink as I was scared to. Nobody came to ask if our meals were ok.. Basic food and Luke warm chips.. I won’t return here! Awful

Visited here for a lunch time meal after a long walk. Have visited several times before and always had a lovely meal. Today was very different... had to wait 40 mins for liver and bacon. Meal was lukewarm but we were hungry so didn’t mention it ( however another couple sent one of their meals back for not being hot). It was edible but certainly not the standard that we have had before and only a tiny bit of bacon.I must say the owner and two other males sitting at the bar is very off putting especially as they are not welcoming, no hello and more disappointingly no goodbye and thank you. In fact one of the older gentleman had a scowl on his face as he looked at customers. The general attitude seem to rub off on the barmaid who greets you with a ‘you alright’’what you want’ I would of preferred a ‘can I help you’!!!!!I’m sorry to say we won’t be returning to this once lovely pub. It’s a shame there is no response to the comments on here as would love to know what happened to this place to make it seem unfriendly and go downhill.

Firstly, I have to say my husband and I have eaten here many, many times, mainly at lunch time, and have always enjoyed the food, especially the fish platter which is delicious. However, it's well over a year since we came for Sunday lunch, which we decided to do last Sunday. The pub and restaurant was crowded, as is usual, and we waited 40 minutes for our meal to arrive and were surprised to see that the vegetables were served on the plate rather than separately, as we remembered from previous visits. That was okay though, until we tasted them. The roast potatoes were covered by the meat, and when we tried them they were undercooked in the middle and soaked by gravy on the outside making what was cooked soggy. The carrots were virtually raw and the cauliflower watery and unpleasant, and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt and black. The whole plate was covered in a thin almost tasteless gravy, although the meat was okay. We didn't complain as we got the distinct impression that complaints would be dealt with in an "if you don't like it don't bother coming back" fashion, as has been mentioned by other reviewers who have complained. This meal won't stop us from returning for lunch, however we most definitely will not be having the Sunday roast.

My wife is Gluten Free and her diet did not cause any problems. There was a good choice on the menu and a "specials" board as well. The food was well-cooked, well-presented and the portion sizes more than ample (I would recommend the staeak and ale pie if it's available). There was a good choice of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.The prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was very homely and a big bonus, it is dog friendly. Afterwards, if you want to walk down your meal, the Reculver Towers and the Reculver Country Park are right outside.

Booked on the strength of the Sunday Roast reviews. The table was outside the ladies loo which has a swing door that bangs on entry and exit, it also turns out we were sat in the children's area. Sat down only to be told they had run out of roasts! After struggling through banging doors and screaming kids for our starters which were basically brought in, certainly not home cooked, and sipping some very warm white wine we decided we couldn't sit through any more. The manager said he couldn't do anything about the children, ok fair enough but it was in the children's area as it turned out!. If you are going to put a table there then put a soft closer on the ladies loo door! Food average, wine awful, service poor. Very disappointed and still charged full amount on leaving.

Steps to get onto decking, and further lip into the pub means that it is wheelchair inaccessible. Even when not in a wheelchair, the steps to decking were not easy to negotiate. Decor was tired, and customers made to have plastic cups when drinking outside, if they could tolerate all the many smokers on a hot day. Disabled toilet was a disgrace, not only was it dirty but the red cord was tied up and situated above the baby changing station, instead of near the toilet. Unfriendly, surly staff. With a great tourist attraction nearby, the pub could do a lot better than this, surely.

This was as they have normal meals that she would cook and she calls normal home cooking. The value was good for what you received. The staff were friendly and so were the other locals in the pub and spoke to you. The only thing that we found and commented on was there could be a smaller appitite size on the menu for older diners or younger if they need to eat less. The Sunday Lunches are both good quality and great value, the pub gets very busy so its essential to reserve a table

In 30 plus years of organising Rambles, we're forever drawn back to the delights of the Kent coastline with Reculver and 'The King Ethelbert Inn' being two of those 'must do' destinations whatever time of the year. On this occasion, we brought a different group of friends with us and on a cold April day, they too were appreciative of the warm welcome and excellent food at the 'King Ethelbert'.

Visited today having booked the table on the telephone yesterday, confirmed dog friendly but would be busy. Greeted on arrival, shown straight to our table. Both of our dogs (one large and one small) were made to feel very welcome and loved all the attention they were given! Good choice of meals, four of us had roast dinners and one steak and ale pie. Food cooked very well, served on hot plates with good selection of vegetables. Decided on a pudding, spotted dick, steamed sponge, melt in the middle chocolate pudding and ice cream with toffee sauce, all were delicious. Very good value for money. Felt very welcome, was our first visit but certainly won't be our last. Thank you to all the staff for a great meal.

Visited the tower nearby so popped in for a drink. Its set up for locals seemingly, i felt like a stranger. A few instructive signs. Interestingly if you are male you are seemingly only permitted a wee! Consequently i metamorphosed into a lady/baby/disabled person to use theirs.

After prowling through the remains of the neighbouring church, and wending our way around the marshes that once formed the Wantsum channel that formed a real Isle for Thanet you can build quite a thirst and an appetite.

I had heard good things about the food at the king ethelbert inn and chose to pay a visit. Rather sensibly we pre booked a table as I was told it can get very busy as it’s a popular spot. When we arrived and now this is where I’m being picky we told the barman we had booked a table and we were told speak to the guy at the end of the bar. Now even though the chap probably guessed which table we had booked as I was holding my daughter the chap wasn’t in uniform and could have been anyone. Now I’m being very critical as when we sat down at our table being first timers at this venue the ordering process wasn’t explained to us and had we not asked another patron we could have been sat there a while. We ordered ourselves a very nice roast dinner And the food was very nice and prompt coming out with the portion size being enough to feed my daughter as well. The service was very good but the staff possibly being a little too quick to clear the table. The prices for both food and drink were on par with the location. We will be more than happy to visit again.

This pub has a great spot and it's great to pop in here after a walk along the beach or up to the towers. We came here for a family Sunday lunch and the staff were very accommodating of us having a small baby with us. The food is very traditional and there isn't a huge amount for non-meat eaters to eat, which made it a bit tricky for some of the party, but if you're looking for a traditional Sunday pub lunch, then this definitely fits the bill.

I've been a few times and everything I've eaten has been amazing. Just polished off a Pie and a pint for £7.95 Yes £7.95 the pie was steak and ale, full of meat which was tender served with chips, peas and a yummy gravy. AAA☆☆☆☆☆☆

A cosy pub serving good overcooked food. A fairly simple bar menu but specials from the board available. Food served all freshly cooked. Service prompt and friendly.

We had a party of 12 and had booked for 10 but the landlord was very nice and happy for us to extend our table, the food was nice and brought out quickly, it had a lovely atmosphere and our 3 dogs just slept by the table. A good idea to book as very popular after a bracing walk along the coast, definitely will return.

I went there for lunch on Friday. It was busy with a great buzz. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty. The portions were also a good size. The pub had a great traditional feel with hops hanging off the beams. A great atmosphere!

We were out on one of the most windy days ever.. we were walking around the Reculver Towers with our dog.. we parked in the large car park opposite the pub.. we didn’t have an intention of eating out.. it was so cold that we decided to go in for a drink.. the place was sooooo busy.. I usually don’t really like it when places are full to the brim but within seconds we were made to feel a part of everything.. the service was very friendly and swift.. we didn’t have to wait 30 seconds.. we decided that actually we would eat.. I had a roast beef and my vegetarian partner chose the veggie sausages and mash.. both meals were presented beautifully and tasted as good as they looked.. very generous portions.. everyone looked happy in the place.. the restaurant area is very interesting and there is so many quirky Kentish decoration to view.. will definitely visit again! This is a hidden gem..

It is a dog friendly pub but we chose to eat outside as it was sunny. Meal spoilt by loud person on his phone for over half an hour, three (empty) tables away. Looked as though saying something may have caused a problem so didn,t as we had our young granddaughter with us, but an older employee did say be quiet to him. Food good though, shame about the very noisy client.

Since Adrian retired and Andy and Clive left, the cafe (and showroom), have gone seriously downhill, £2 for a cup of Nescafe!!! only one or two customers, there is no atmosphere, or banter in the cafe or showroom, it's more or less been turned into a car showroom, i.e. only interested in closing deals, "goodbye, next! I don't think it will be long before it's closed!

Great menu, plenty of choice. Enjoyed three stunning started, so filling that could not manage all of the main course - which was also tasty. Good wine range and everything great value for money. Not too busy so able to catch up with friends. Have always had a positive experience here

I recommend the taster tray to sample five thirds of different beers (assuming you can't cope with five pints!). It's the best way of trying their wide range.

You will not find a friendlier bar. Great afternoon listening to the open mic crew. Fantastic!
