You can eat and drink here with a beautiful view. Unfortunately everything only in plastic cups. I tried 2 oysters for £2.50 each. Since this was my first and last time, I can't say anything about the taste of the oysters😂. My brother in law had fish and chips and was disappointed. The breading was very, very thin and quite greasy. But it's all a matter of taste.

I like this place. It’s very basic - almost a takeaway. But it’s right on the beach, and that’s very rare in Whitstable. Can’t vouch for the rich n chips or oysters as I’ve never had them, but for a coffee and sausage bap in the morning I love it (albeit it’s not cheap). What’s a real shame is that in the countless times I’ve been here the staff have never said ‘please’ ‘thank you’ or even ‘hello’ etc. They kinda act like they begrudge working there, or at least begrudge the customers interrupting their larks and phone use. Shame.

Cute little outdoor fish restaurant right on the beach. It’s all outdoors with picnic tables, with food and drink served out of a hatch. The offer is fairly simple with Whitstable oysters and fish and chips to take away with a good range of beers. Best thing is the location, fish and chips were ok. Freshly cooked but batter was not the best and they loose a star for using frozen chips, not freshly cut.

Stopped here for lunch and we were looking forward to what we assumed would be fresh fish and chips ‘cooked to order’ as the restaurant states. Far from it. We ordered one scampi and chips and one cod and chips. It’s frozen fish, which was tasteless and not much flavour at all. It’s not cod either, just some cheap white fish. Scampi seemed dry too. And then there’s the chips, not even fish and chip shop chips. They then provide you with awful sachets of ketchup and vinegar. Not what I expect from a fish and chip shop. Then there’s the price, around £30 for this! Unacceptable. The person who also took my order was miserable and quite clearly didn’t want to be there. It really is a shame as the location of the restaurant is stunning, however seems to be a profit business as opposed to providing decent food.

Awful!!! Do not waste your money. Waited a good 15 minutes for our order. Not ‘proper’ chip shop chips, they’re frozen ones that you’d get in the shops tasted like normal oven chips. Fish and scampi were thick in oil and my scampi wasn’t fresh it was just out of a packet. Really disappointing especially as it cost us £30. Delicious! Every time, it is delicious! I didn’t even like oysters before visiting the Forge, nor did I know the history of the Whitstable oyster company. Now, I make it a point to visit once a month (or anytime I have an international visitor). These oysters are so incredibly fresh and tasty. The fish and chips are unbelievably good—the batter is light and crispy, the fish is tender and moist, and the chips add the perfect salt and carb complement. Amazing in any season, I love that waterside shack is tucked alongside the fisherman’s cottages and has a prime view of the bay. Staff are friendly to customers. Overall, this is a fabulous place to visit for high quality food in a low-key atmosphere.

The Forge Whitstable is a hidden gem that's a must-visit for anyone seeking the quintessential fish and chips experience. As a firm believer that the best fish and chips often come from vans and shacks, I can confidently say that this shack is truly impressive. Tucked away from the main high street and just a stone's throw from the sea, The Forge offers a delightful array of options. In addition to the classic fish and chips, they also serve oysters and have a license to serve alcohol, making it a versatile choice for all tastes. One of the standout features of this place is its fast service. Despite the high quality of their offerings, you won't be waiting long to satisfy your cravings. The selection is also fantastic, and the outside seating area is a lovely touch, allowing you to enjoy your meal while taking in the sea breeze. What sets The Forge apart is its commitment to freshness. Everything is freshly caught and cooked, which is a testament to their dedication to quality. While it may be a bit more expensive than your average fish and chip shop, it's a price worth paying. The Forge Whitstable operates on a no-bookings-required basis, which is great for those who prefer a spontaneous stop on their coastal walk. The Forge is also dog friendly as it is all outside seating. This is not a place for fine dining, but rather a classic takeaway experience where you can sit on a provided bench or a nearby beach to savor your meal. However, it's important to note that parking is limited, and they only accept card payments. So, be prepared for a bit of a parking challenge, but the culinary delights you'll find at The Forge will make it all worthwhile. It's a fantastic spot to refuel during your coastal journey, offering a genuine taste of the British seaside.

Lovely setting. Great dog friendly pub. Disappointingly not so friendly to humans. We reserved a table for Sunday lunch, upon arrival we were left standing at the bar with 2 staff doing their best to avoid eye contact… then Sophie walked in and knew exactly what being a good host meant, attentive with a smile, I hope her disposition is catching to the other staff. Food was OK, timing was a bit here and there, had almost finished when the cauliflower cheese arrived, was more like cauliflower poached in milk but nothing compares to Mums 🤷‍♂️ We’d give it a second go but can’t score more than a 3.
