scampi very poor quality! miniscule bits of scampi too small to taste. Chicken goujons overcooked, burnt in fact. very dry and tasteless. we took them home for the dogs. We will not be returning!

Outstanding in every way. We have often visited Chestfield barn for lovely lunches and dinners so when it was our friends birthday we decided to eat at the barn with his mum, brother and friends. We asked if they could provide a cake and they couldn’t but said I could, bring my own. Our lovely waitress Lisa hid the cake, lit the candles and even carried it to the table singing Happy Birthday. Our dinner was lovely, we had a massive range of different dishes and all were excellent. My Vegetarian dirty fries were great. It was a truly joyous evening made special by the outstanding staff, particularly Lisa. I have rarely felt so welcome in a restaurant or enjoyed such great service all delivered with a lovely smile. Thank you Lisa, you are a star. Our friend flew over from Switzerland especially to celebrate his 60th birthday and he wasn’t disappointed.

Booked Sunday lunch for 4 at 3pm. Ordered 2 x lamb and 2 x beef roasts. After 15 mins we were told there was no lamb but offered gammon as replacement - No thanks! Settled for steak & ale pie, waited another 10 mins to be told no pie left. Reluctantly settled for beef all round. 20 minutes later the meals arrived. Not a vegtable in sight, As there was no-one to ask we assumed maybe we had to order the veg seperately & started to eat. After another 5 minutes, the veg arrived in a bowl. The beef tasted ok, but the potatoes were hard on the outside and barely warm inside & the veg was definitely undercooked. We had 2x pints of beer and 1x glass of wine. I paid probably 2.5 times what it would have cost in a local carvery which in hindsight would have been a much better option. Needless to say we will not be eating there again.

All right perhaps our fault for accepting a 3.30pm table time for a Sunday roast but come on there we’re still lots of meals being served after we were seated.Lamb and Turkey were sold out so choices were chicken or beef.I had the beef which took a lot of chewing roast potatoes were rock hard .no none of us actually enjoyed our meals sticky toffee pudding was good Guinness was cold best 2 parts of the meal.service was pleasant. So book. early or have strong healthy teeth.

My friend and I came for a meal tonight to celebrate her birthday. We arrived, table wasn't ready and so we got a drink. Table was ready very swiftly and we sat and were given menus. We ordered our main and came in good time. The food was delicious, hot and a good portion size. I did have the chicken and did find it a little bland. However with what it came with it did enhance the flavours and was lovely. After the meal finished we asked for a break and will have dessert choices in a bit. We sat chatting and then realised we'd been left and no one came back to check on us and give us our dessert menus. I did ask for them and a member of staff said she would bring them over. They never arrived and so we just paid and left. Nothing was said or mentioned. Would have loved to have tried a dessert However it got too late and we chose a mcflurry at McDonald's instead. I will return However service needs to be a little better. Was a shame.

We were very pleased with the kindly service we received when booking the upstairs for a buffet for a number of people after Mum's funeral. It's not easy to gauge the number of people attending but our estimates, with their advice, worked very well, and we all enjoyed a varied and tasty buffet spread, with teas, coffees, and jugs of juices and water. The room was arranged perfectly and our photos were carefully and beautifully displayed. There is also the facility of the bar downstairs, which is great. David, who took our initial booking, and then Louise, the evening before, and Sarah, on the day, all kindly made sure everything went smoothly and according to plan. It's a great location for a special function. We were very pleased. Thank you to all at the barn.

Well what an experience. Bought a bottle of wine and went to the garden to enjoy. On a large table was 3 couples all with children who were being allowed to run wild. One kid was pulling the flowers off the hanging baskets whilst another was snapping branches off a plant. The parents were sometimes shouting at the kids mainly because they was jumping off the wall onto the golf course lawn. the kids were walking along the brick wall knocking into us then we even had one of the dads chasing them and he’s arse in our face. After about 15 mins I asked them to keep it down and get control of their kids. This obviously upset them and one of the useless mothers decided to have a go at me whereupon she was bluntly told what to do. This offended her husband who said he was having none of it. We upped and moved table to get away from them but when they was leaving the upset lemon husband walked over to me demanding an apology to he’s wife. He was told that’s never going to happen so go away. He carried on telling me he’s not scared of me etc etc then left even more upset. We then had the Manageress tell us we would no longer be served and have to go because they complained and are upset. We all know nowadays the ones who complain are the poor victims, bless them. We was told they are regulars which is odd because we are to and we are using the sister pub the ship in Herne Bay weekly with friends. Maybe your manageress could pop out to the garden area every now and again to see if all is ok especially as it was full and the inside are nearly empty. My advice is give it a miss as well as the Ship your money will be better spent elsewhere.

My husband and I were being treated to a Sunday Lunch at the Barn. Had we been on our own, a lot of food would have been returned to the kitchen. We had the mushrooms and the chicken popcorn to start with. The mushrooms were grossly over cooked and all shrivelled. The chicken popcorn was very tough. My husband asked for the beef to be rare and it was over cooked and like eating a piece of shoe leather. The hot meat and gravy had been draped over the potatoes and they had gone soggy. I had the steak pie…..well…what a disgrace. It was a semicircle of pie and about 3/4 of an inch of raggy meat in a gloopy, gelatinous gravy….it was terrible. At last, the desserts! They were wonderful. I had the sticky toffee pudding and it was really nice. The red wine was too warm. Overall, a bad experience never to be repeated.

It’s been a while since my last visit to the Barn, and sadly a very disappointing one too. Although we had booked a table we had to wait a while to be seated and the a long while before the order was taken. Once the meals were brought to us some had to go back as they were not up to standard and also some of the food was cold so had to be sent back. The puddings were late too and teas got forgotten. So sadly for the price we would not be returning.

Went for lunch yesterday with 4 friends. Main course was good although we did have to wait nearly an hour for it even though it was not busy. We decided to have dessert and settled for a sundae. I don't like squirty cream and asked if it could be left off....no problem. In reflection, I called the waitress back (who was lovely and only doing her job) and asked if I could have an extra scoop of ice cream instead. She said she would ask....answer from the chef was no because the ice cream is denser than the cream so would cost more!!!! Never heard such an unusual reply and so asked to see the manager, Amelia. Explained the situation and she said she could not make a decision (err...but what else do managers do except customer services and make decisions??). She asked chef and said that on this occasion they would make an exception and add a little ice cream. We told them to cancel all the puddings, paid and left. Oh forgot to say, she rolled her eyes as she walked away!! We could not believe they were were being so petty over a scoop of ice cream!Such bad customer service and a manager who doesn't make decisions. The bill was not cheap and with people going out less because of the current economy, Amelia and the chef should learn to placate customers because they might find that, like us, customers will not be going back.

This pub is over an hours drive for us but we always visit at least 3/4 times a year as its one of my favourites. My wife treated me to a Father's Day meal, with my young daughters and dog. We are always made to feel welcome when visiting. The grounds are lovely and the pub itself is beautiful and cozy. I thought the free beer for the Father on Fathers day was a nice touch and appreciated. Every table was full which created a nice atmosphere. There was a little wait between courses but that was no issue for us and it was to be expected on Fathers Day. Every member of staff that we spoke to was friendly and even commented on how polite our daughters were when ordering! I just wish this was our local. We'll be back very soon.

Unfortunately the food took over an hour to come to us and we had pre ordered the food. Prawn cocktail served without a lemon which should be standard and the roast was extremely bland. Bland gravy, fatty lamb and unseasoned vegetable. So disappointed haven’t been before and was so looking forward to it! The pie was rock hard and had clearly been left under the heat for the other meals and dried out. The baguettes were hard and dry and Camembert starter like water! Unfortunately the service was slow, we waited over and hour and half and the food was subpar. Edit (additional feedback for owner): We booked a table for 4pm on Sunday, we arrived at 4pm and ordered within 10 minutes, it didn't seem too busy, I would guess around 20 covers (tables). We waited 50 mins before asking a member of staff who said "shortly", after another 20 min wait we asked again and was told 10 minutes. When the food did arrive the veg was a little al-dente and some of the roast potatoes were very dry, almost empty husk due to being sat for too long on low heat. We also heard a few other customers complaining about wait times so don't think it was isolated issue.

The worse steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant . I had the sirloin which was £29 although the price isn’t listed on the menu. Had no taste at all apart from a greasy flavour . I paid an additional £2.50 for pepper corn sauce . This also had no peppery flavour , No one came over to ask if everything was ok but I eventually found someone to tell . I had taken my mum for lunch for her birthday so didn’t like to make too much of an issue but she described her scampi and chips as very average also . I was given 10% off which was not really good enough given my disappointment. I am not one for complaining, and have never given a bad review. Photos provided. Visit date: 10th February 2024 I'm a local but had never eaten here before. I had called before I went and asked specifics about the starter I wanted, so I knew that the chicken in the starter, was only seasoned with salt and pepper. But I was starving and I'm an ongoing victim of DA, so I can't always cook at home nor do I know how to due to my very abusive parents. This is important in understating why I went to eat here. Also, I hadn't eaten the entire day. There's no good food options in the majority of Kent. You have to go to London to get good options. Chicken Skewers Bland chicken. Way less salt and pepper than I expected. Non existent basically. Think the total opposite of Chinese salt and pepper chicken. This was basically unseasoned. I thought the tzatziki would compensate for the bland chicken. The portion of tzatziki however is 4 times less than what it needs to be. Tiny. But nothing can compensate for unseasoned chicken. Incredibly bland dish. £9. For less than that price I can get a delicious Taco at Wahaca in London. I can't understand how they think anyone would like to eat bland food. Barn Burger Bun is kinda dry. Weird bun too. Not your typical burger bun. Decent amount of beef. Crunchy around the edges of the beef which was a bit off putting. Kinda dry towards the end overall. I requested burger sauce which was provided free of charge on the side. It was pretty sweet. Didn't really like it. But nice of them. Meat tastes like its excellent quality. Fries were pretty good. But some had a slightly undercooked texture. Sadly, what let this otherwise decent dish down, was both burger and coleslaw were too salty. Otherwise it's an OK dish, but for £15 there's needs to be more in the burger, like red onion rings etc. I was asked if it was OK, but I didn't want to complain as I was still hungry and I've had experiences before when complaining (I eat out a lot. In many places over the UK and Europe), where the manger comes out and is a vile person. You never know how the manager is at a place, and as an ethnic single male, eating alone, with no witnesses at the table, staff/managers take advantage of that to be vile. It's not only staff. I've had members of the public be racist and vile towards me when I complained about food at a restaurant nearby. Not far at all from chestfield. Pretty much a local place. I filed a report to the police about that. So I'm anxious about members of the public reacting negatively towards me too. Because I'm a ETHNIC male, if I complain, it's viewed as an attempt to not pay for food. It's disgusting. I've considered investing in a body worn camera. Moving on. Coffee - Flat white OK. If quite bitter/strong which was unexpected for being a flat white. £3.80 Came with a little biscuit which was nice. Can get a much better flat white at Costa just up the road. Chicken and bacon linguine I asked for no bacon but instead just chicken. Chicken was chewy. Overcooked I suspect. A lot of mushrooms were hard to chew or too rubbery to chew. No baby spinach. No Parmesan cheese. Overall this dish was pretty bad. Only OK flavor wise, and with much on the dish very chewy, taking an age to eat. £15.50 At the end AFTER paying, I did tell the waitress that chicken was too chewy. She said 'I'll pass it on to the kitchen'. Staff were friendly. In particular the male waiter. I had a variety of staff attend my table over the course of the evening. It wasn't just the female on the receipt. Only slight let down, towards the end of my meal, 3 or 4 female staff were chatting away with each other leaving me waiting for a while. I asked for a hot drinks/soft drinks menu but was told they don't have one. I've provided photos of the desserts menu. I didn't order any though. Decided not to. Interior is calming and nice. Could do with more light directly over the table so food is well lit. Too dark to properly see the food. Beautiful building from the outside. For £43.30, I could have eaten elsewhere in London (not including travel costs) and have a delicious filling meal.

We live very near the pub but don't go often, nor do any of our friends who are local residents. During the day the clientele are often noisy lager-swigging types with badly behaved children. Our experience in the evening has been very variable, there seems to be a high turnover of chefs, the food has varied from excellent to dreadful. We have heard the present chef is good so we went for dinner to celebrate our friends wedding anniversary. Our table was under one of the loudspeakers and the music was rather loud. There was broken glass on the floor, apparently a previous guest at the next table had been brought the wrong drink and had thrown the glass at the wall. The staff had apparently removed him but clearly hadn't had time to clear up the glass. Starters were excellent, very well presented and reasonable portion size. The main courses were ok, tasty and filling but the vegetables for one meal didn't arrive until about ten minutes after the rest of the food. We were told the chef didn't like the way they looked when they came out of the microwave and had started again. They were still of very poor quality and didn't arrive until the rest of the food had been eaten. Our complaint was not handled well, just an apology without an offer to take that meal off the bill or provide any alternative compensation. Sadly we've experienced very late arrival of some of the order here before; getting everything to the table at the same time is one of the most basic requirements of catering and it's disappointing they still can't do this. The cheese board was excellent, plenty of cheese of good quality and variety. We received small glasses of complementary port with the cheese. If this was intended to compensate for the late arrival of poor quality vegetables it was a nice gesture, but it wasn't explained. I'm a big fan of Shepherd Neame, but sadly this pub never has any of the seasonal ales. Looking around, most of the customers were drinking lager so perhaps there's not enough demand for real ale here. I asked for an island malt at the end of the meal and was told they only had Jameson or Bushmills, on reflection they probably thought I had asked for an Ireland malt, an understandable mistake given how loud the music was. We will continue to avoid the pub during the day, but apart from the dreadful vegetables the food was good and we will try an evening meal there again. Additional information following feedback from the pub. No we don't come often, perhaps three or four times a year which is enough to know what the place is like. You only have to walk past in the summer to see and hear the clientele in the garden. The assistant manager told us "the chef didn't like the look of the vegetables when they came out of the microwave". All four of us heard him, if he has told you a different story I suggest you talk to him about it. People sitting at an adjacent table warned us about the broken glass and told us what had happened, and we did not say there was no need to clear it up. Yes, the assistant manager did take the meal off the bill after we refused to pay for it. He should have offered to do this in the first place given that the vegetables didn't arrive until the rest of the meal had been eaten and were of poor quality when they eventually arrived. When we moved back here there was a very high turn-over of chefs, one of our neighbours worked in the kitchen and confirmed this. I am pleased to hear that this is not now the case, but that makes me wonder why the food is sometimes very good and sometimes very poor. I take exception to the accusation that I have "fabricated" content of this review. I have taken the trouble to give detailed accurate feedback, if you would rather accuse me of lying than address the issues I've raised it won't help your business, which is a great shame.

This is the third time I have eaten there in the last four months and each time the food has been truly awful. Whether it's their beef and ale pies, obviously just cooked there, not made by their chef, or their beef burgers ,they are terrible. How hard can it be to cook a pre made pie, or a burger? Really this should be one star, but the drinks aren't too expensive so I will give it two. Meet some friends for a drink, just don't eat there.

We booked for a Sunday roast. We had a phone call in advance of our booked time saying there was only a limited choice of meats left and asking if it was ok, which is fair enough. The dinner itself was ok, but not spectacular. Some things were warm, as opposed to hot. The potatoes were very hard and we feared for our teeth. It was just a bit of a disappointment overall.

This is a gorgeous restaurant and setting and the staff are wonderful and attentive. Haven't been for a few years but its our local and we thought we'd arrange a special Christmas meal here with friends. There was live music and the lighting was perfect for the celebratory time of year. I really wanted to love the food but it was somewhat lacklustre and underwhelming. We ordered all 3 courses, including a 'crispy pancetta' pasta dish which disappointingly just contained strips of fat that were hard and inedible and spoilt the dish (the pasta itself was actually delicious). Garlic bread was dull as were most of the starters. The ice cream sundaes were made of cheap watery ice cream and the majority of every course lacked flavour and quality ingredients despite the highish prices. We were disappointed 😞

Been a local resident for over 20 years and seen the Barn at its best and worst. Went for a meal with friends last night and it was lovely. The food and service were top quality and the best we have ever had. Congratulations to the current owners and staff. Thoroughly recommend.

Took my other half out here for dinner, as we have had drinks there a few times and looked lovely so thought we would eat there one night. So booked a table for 19:45 after buying drinks at the bar, as there was a table of 5 in front of us as we arrived and they got asked for their drinks order straight away. So after standing there for a minute or 2 we thought we would grab a drink. Once we got our table at 19:45 which was a table for 2 right next to the back door people go out to smoke so was cold then took around 10 minutes for anyone to ask for our order. We only wanted a small starter so ordered the nachos after waiting till 20:30 and still no food and none asked if we needed drinks I asked what was going on. The waitress said sorry and went to find out. I then decided I’m not waiting any longer so we got up to leave. I then spoke to I think the manager a man. Who said sorry we are short staffed etc and hope I return again. All that was needed to be said to us was that in the 1st place then we would have known it was gonna take 30 minutes for nachos. So overall bad experience better service in a weatherspoons shame.

Lovely atmosphere in a busy restaurant (clearly popular). Food was Fantastic!!! Excellent batter on a big piece of cod. Chips and mushy peas really good too. Great idea to offer small pud options and the sticky toffee pud was the best I've ever enjoyed. Huge Well Done to the kitchen and our friendly waitress.

Called on for Sunday lunch as had not been for a while. Two roast lunch dishes available which was served with a separate dish of 4 vegetables. Good selection of beers and when asked what wine they had was afforded a selection of 6. Prices were competitive, service attentive and atmosphere good. Will we come again - definitely.
