Happy Fryer in Dover

I think it would be hard to find a budget cafe serving better food than these people manage to. I had a good look at everything coming out to the tables and it was all cooked to order, well presented, clean and very good portion size. Their fish and chips are to die for, I doubt you would find better in the area for such a good price. Well worth a visit.

Huge menu, well prepared and good value. Not The Ritz but the food is well prepared with large portions and attentive service.

Fantastic little restaurant. My aunt and uncle live in Deal and always enjoy their meals here. The owner was so attentive and really made our 3 children feel so welcome. Portions are huge and all made fresh to order. Really lovely dinner and happy chilled out atmosphere. Will def be returning when in Deal next! Thank you again for a bit of normality in such crazy times xx

I’ve just had a lovely lunch of cod chips and mushy peas served with a friendly smile and complementary tea. I would definitely recommend a visit on a day trip to Deal.

I have just been to the happy Frier and ordered our meals, whilst waiting for them I noticed the cook taking money and then handling food without washing his hands. At no time did he wash his hands whilst continuing to handle the food so I decided to cancel our order to the waitress. She conveyed this to the cook who came to our table to apologise saying that this was not normally how he worked but he was under pressure because he had 2 staff in hospital, whilst he was talking he was wiping his hands on a dirty J cloth.I confirmed that I wanted to cancel my order and he again apologised and went back to carry on preparing food yet again he did not wash his hands so the people on another table called the waitress and cancelled their order saying that they would not eat there again. At this point I paid for our tea and left

Wew arrived 6.30pm Friday just as Christmas Lights were being switched on in Deal so place was busy but we found some seats people were lined up outside for takeaway but we were served a superb cod and enormous haddock with good hot chips with 2 teas all for £18 Frankly better than our dreams We will return

On another visit to Deal,we are in the Happy Fryer just like to say it is even better than previously now it has been taken over by new owners,food is fresh with a choice for everyone on the menu.Service is fast and efficient and the chips are still made «in old school style»which gives them that extra quality taste.Portions are extremly large and at a low cost.Can definitly recommend this chippie if you want the real deal,When in Deal.

Visited with 4 adults and 2 kids, and were welcomed by friendly staff, a varied menu, clean tables and great value food. Go in hungry, because the portions are huge!

We visited for my grandsons 8th birthday as we had takeaway previously and found it great we decided to go it wasn’t that busy and we were a party of 7 . We waited rather a long time to actually order and then when the meals did arrive it was 1 meal which was incorrect then a inexcusable wait for the rest . Food was not that great quality and I ordered a spring roll which was ok until it was served to another customer and I was told that “they had run out” really !!! I had clearly order well in advance of this customer. When asked when I was paying if all was ok the owner/chef/manager argued with me that well it was busy it was 1/2 empty and there were plenty of staff on

Visited the Happy fryer on a quiet wet Monday evening and was impressed we were seated quickly and our order taken promptly,the drinks arrived followed soon after by our food the cod was lovely and white and the tasty crispy batter was outstanding,the chicken was very moist and tasty and the kids meals are good value.Would strongly recommend the Happy fryer for good freshly cooked fish and chips.

We were looking for a budget place for 4 adults and 2 under 5s to have lunch and stumbled upon this place. Super pleased we went in! Great value, MASSIVE portions of lovely food. I had a jacket potato and salad and it was delicious. The salad was bright and colourful and all tasted great. The staff were really friendly, generous and helpful. They gave the kids a free fruit shoot and lollipop at the end. They gave a free portion of chips too. The kids meals were massive and came with a ice cream sundae at the end. So impressed! We were on holiday so won’t be returning anytime soon, but will definitely go back next time we go to Deal!

We were absolutely satisfied, staff was quick and polite. Food was delicious and we got really big portions! We had enjoyable experience! 🙃

First visit since the new management took over. I had plaice and chips, Cooked in front of me, it was superb. The fish was large, well cooked and nice crispy batter. The chips were made with new potatoes. This is the best fish and chips I have had in many years.I will be visiting the Happy Fryer again.

We have now decided that this is our local fish and chip shop. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. The staff couldn't do more for you. Would highly recommend visiting this fish and chip shop. Loved by all my family

Called in at lunchtime with my partner for an OAP special. First thing you notice is the cleanliness of the place, spotless!

Food was great good portions 👌 we had a lovely meal owner of the restaurant his very friendly the lady who deal with a table’s offered us tea and coffee on the house. We will be back..

I havent been there for a long time since i have seen new management sighn and i saw the lady who works for ossies in sandwich. i decided to try food was ok could be better service was excellent..

Went in this evening to buy 3 portions of small chips, 2 cans of coke and a fruit shoot. I handed the man two £10 notes. After collecting the kids and battling through the queue to get out the door I realised the man had only given me £2.50 change but since I had left the shop there was very little that I could argue. Either the prices are unbelievable or I was robbed. The total of all 3 chips according to their board would come to £4.80. So over all guys no my 2 cokes costing almost £5 each were not worth the visit.

Ordered chips and gravy, waited 45 minutes and still not received my order. Ended up leaving as I didn’t have time. Paid for my order and didn’t get a refund. It’s only £3 but nearing. Christmas time every penny counts. New management aren’t doing too well.

This place is under new management now and it really is worth a visit. Take away or sit in it cannot be faulted. I am not particularly a chip person but their chips are to die for. Had a medium piece of rig (dread to think what the large piece would be), Medium haddock - same as already said regarding the size and medium chips - far too many to be profitable for this place surely. Even if you have a big appetite you'd be hard pressed to eat it all. Highly recommend giving this a try - you won' be disappointed.

Went to visit our favorite fish and chip restaurant only to see a big sign outside saying " Under New Management" But we were not disappointed, The cod chips and salad were even better !! The new owner and his staff were friendly and the batter on the fish was light and crispy, love this place, best in miles.

Food was not good. Chips seemed to be steamed not fried. Flavorless. Fish was ok flavor but texture was weird. The whole meal had a chemical smell to it.

Sometimes stop here when we are out for a stroll along the front and stone throwing with the kids on the beach.They are quite happy to serve the 4 of us one portion of large chips and a couple of mugs of tea in the resturant,not alot of money in it for them but its never an issue.Portions are very generous and tasty,tea is hot,good value,and the guy behind the counter (maybe an owner?)always gives my daugther a lollypop,something she always says about going for a walk over Deal.Excellent chippy,you wont go wrong,good work

Visited today not been for a while not sure if it's changed hands? Prices have rocketed since my last visit I always have salad chicken beast and chips my husband always has liver. His no longer on menu the grill he had disappointing mine not a salad just a garnish chicken half he size chips not great. WHat a shame was a great place charged for coffee used to be included . When we went in my comment was we always struggled to get a seat today only 3 tables including us oh dear perhaps change back ? We will not be back sorry been coming 14 years but not any more

Good choice on the menu. Staff very friendly. I had a mushroom omelette with chips and mushy peas. Freshly cooked to perfection and very tasty. Would recommend to anyone.

Popped in here after having a wonder round the local streets having been to deal castle. Nice size, friendly staff, food to a good standard but a little bit pricey (unless I am getting tight as I get older). Would have given a 5 if the £4 burger was of a decent size but 4 bites and it was gone was a tad disappointing. Love to know where you get buns that small but hey ho, it is what it is.

A large cafe/takeaway restaurant. All the standards on the menu, chips, fish, burgers, omelettes etc... Not stand out but you know what you are getting.

Normalmente me gusta este lugar, pero en nuestra última visita nos dieron dos piezas muy pequeñas de peces y me cobraron la gran cod (más de 10 libras! ! ). Me sentí un poco estafado-off para ser honesto y el servicio era sin duda no es con una sonrisa. Una pena porque es una conveniente ubicación justo al lado de la calle alta.

A disappointing last few visits to here. To take away - Not fresh chips and the cod very greasy. I went at 6.30pm, so not even late. They have always been very good and hope they get back to the standard they have been.

We ate here today , staff very helpful , food served fast and hot , portions very big great value for money will defiantly visit again

I stopped here in Park Street to buy a bag of chips for myself. There were quite a few people in there, but this is always a good sign. I bought some chips and a saveloy, the staff seemed okay, but they were not that talkative, probably because they were tired. They were not exactly generous with the salt and vinegar, either. Good chips, though. Next time, I may buy some fish too.

Perfectly serviceable fish and chip shop in the centre of Deal. Big piece of cod and masses of thick chips. That and a bottle of water for nine quid to eat in really isn't bad.

This is probably the worst Fish AND Chips I have ever tasted. The fish tasted old and strong tasting as wll as dried out whilst the batter was very greasy and the chops soggy. Don't go there. You will come out with your clothes smelling of greasy fat. Yes it's cheap but absolute awful food. You have been warned!It doesn't even merit one star, but I had to score it to leave this 'review'

This fast food chip shop is in the middle of deal and therefor quite busy food is average but freshly made you can actually see it being made there are many choices on the menu something for everyone.There is plenty of seating and service is fast and efficient,recommend this chippie if your in town and want something fast.

Not very impressed, not good service was charged for a tea we never had and they wouldn't refund the cost back, chips not very apertising.

Really good fish and chips, plenty of room to sit down, staff very efficient, other dishes are good as well, you can see the food being cooked which is a bonus.

We popped in for a quick lunch and were not disappointed. I had trouble deciding what to have as the menu is so vast but eventually decided on chicken, chips and peas and my partner had ham, egg and chips. They were well cooked and the portions very large. The waitress was charming and attentive. Very family friendly and relaxed. The special deals are good, look at the boards near the kitchen, as these include tea or coffee for not much more than a fiver. I would just point out that the chairs are fixed to the tables, so if you were very large you might find it difficult to squeeze in.

The staff are really polite, the portions are huge and nice and cheap too. I would definitely return to this fine establishment.

Had a great midweek lunch here with the family. Good food cooked by Jim and his staff. Really big portions and value for money. Can't fault it as a proper fish and chip shop with a cafe theme. We will be back.

Extensive general menu. Does my favourite childhood potato fritters ....... happy memories. Quick service with piping hot food. Average prices.

For large portions and quick service, good place.Fish and chips is more like whale and chips.Generally a good chippie but can have their off days when chips are just about warm.If your hungry, who cares. Good size portions at a fairly cheap price.

Happy Fryer, was only our second visit but we weren't disappointed, amazing cup of tea, skinless piece of cod, I ate the lot.Would have given 5 stars but chairs are fixed too close to the tables,bit of a tight squeeze with my shape.

Fishing the pier jumbo battered sausage and chips for three was just the required lunch time bite on a blustery overcast day. Tried the happy and was very happy. Polite staff. Tasty batter plentiful well cooked chips well wrapped on my request to keep the food piping hot for the short walk back to the pier. Will get a return visit.

Really beautiful cod at this shop. Also gigantic portions of chips! We didn't eat in but that doesn't detract from the quality of the fish. Superb!!

The core business here is a fish and chip takeaway but there is ample seating and waitress service. Open daily for both the takeaway and dining in. Most of the specials include chips, peas and tea or coffee, and include plaice, liver and bacon, and Shepherds pie. All these, plus all day breakfasts, for around £6-£6.50. Be warned however, the helpings are so filling, that you do not really need a sweet, such as tinned mixed fruit and ice cream. Sandwiches are available and a good range of soft drinks. For a blow out under £10 this is your café. The Happy Fryer is I think a Turkish run family business, and only yards from the High street, opposite Thomas Cook. My advice is that you can be so "fulfilled" that you should not run for a bus afterwards!

If you like tasty fish and chips and have a large appetite this is the plaice for you! (Sorry, had to say it!) we haven't eaten in yet, but regularly purchase our fish and chips as a take away from this establishment. The portions are very large and the fish is fresh and tastes delicious.

The Happy Fryer in Deal in Kent is simply, magic!As other travelers have written, the price for the superb food is truly, “Value for money”!The service is friendly; quick and simply, worth experiencing!My wife and I spent two weeks staying in a cottage in Deal (which I shall evaluate at a later time) and we visited the Happy Fryer, five times altogether. We ate in many places, during our two-week stay, and in different parts of Kent but, the Happy Fryer became our favourite.The typical “Full English Breakfast” – all day long, literally meant, what the sign said and promised. Regardless of the time of day/evening, the Happy Fryer served up Fish & Chips; the “Full Breakfast”, pasties, and so many other varieties of meals, we were truly impressed.All the “poisonous “ sources were readily available (red, brown), and of course vinegar for the chips and regardless of what my wife and I ate, we always drank either tasty tea or coffee with the meals.When travelers visit Deal in Kent, they really must experience the delights of the Happy Fryer! If and when my wife and I visit Deal again, (hopefully soon) the Happy Fryer is the first place we´ll visit.

Recommended by the in-laws - we decided to try it. Went on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Quite empty but that made it quite relaxing. Order taken by a nice lady and food ready within 15 minutes. Chips are quite nice and the battered cod is good but I imagine if you had takeaway cod the batter would come off in the paper as it's wasn't crispy underneath - nevertheless very tasty. Kids really enjoyed it so I expect we will return.

Well known for their excellent fish & chips. But their mixed grill is to die for. The staff are friendly & have served myself & my family many times. The staff have got to know our favourite dishes & our drink preferences. Value for money goes without saying. An all round popular family cafe that caters for most tastes. If anybody leaves still hungry, & unhappy. Then there's no pleasing some people. Keep up the excellent service guys!!!

Loved the food, decent service. A no frills chippy with an eat in facility. Always packed on a Sunday lunchtime and again, always has folk having a sit-down fish and chips. The do other stuff too, breakfasts, roasts. If having a take away the portions are LARGE. A portion of chips does 2 adults.

The town of Deal has a lot of good fish and chip shops but the Happy Fryer has to take the crown. Run by a couple of brothers, the place consistently turns out lovely fresh fish, lightly battered using cooking oil that is regularly changed. Chips are glorious and crisp and the whole meal even comes with a chunk of organic fresh lemon! They are really friendly and have had to build up the business despite the fact that the previous owners had a bad reputation. They really are succeeding.

This is a restaurant/take away fish and chip shop with a difference. Not only the full fish and chip takeaway menu available to sit down to eat there is also a wide range of meals from snacks to full blown dinners. Prices are really good and there are quite a few specials and even a special offer for OAP fish and chips. Service can at times be a bit sloppy (the waitress may forget the drinks or bread and butter or forget to bring the sauce) but to be honest with you if you remind them it's there on the table like a speeding bullet. Give this a try it's a very nice place to eat, has a retro 1960's feel to it, I love it :)

My daughter and I went in for some Fish & Chips to take out. We had read the glorious reviews and chose the Happy Fryer on the basis of all that glory.The chips were nothing special and the cod was awful. The breaded skin was hard and the flesh rubbery. Pretty awful, really.Simples.

Happy Fryer have recently been overtaken by new management and there standard of food is very high. They have small space for you to eat in but they also offer takeaway options with delivery so you can order your food without leaving home.They offer a variety of food; kebabs, fish and chips, pizza and fried chicken.

We are regulars in here.The children's meals are very good with a nice choice.And not just chips served with everything,the staff are nice. I would recommend this cafe
