Our visit to The Rock Rose was a bit like ordering dessert before the main course—started awkward but ended on a sweet note. Walking in, I was ready for some tasty carvery goodness and maybe a cozy seat by the window. Things took a turn when I was greeted by a staff member who answered my friendly "How are you?" with "Good" and then left my question hanging like an unsolved mystery. No “How about you?”—just pure small-talk shutdown. Spotting a perfectly nice, empty table by the window, I asked if we could sit there. Without skipping a beat, she shot me down with a flat "no," offering no reason. Maybe it was reserved for VIPs, or perhaps ghosts—who knows? We were instead directed to the far reaches of the pub into a function room that was more “grandma’s living room” than modern dining space. The décor could’ve used a refresh, but hey, at least it was quiet! Now, onto the highlight—the food! Once we settled in, the carvery was fantastic, and the rest of the staff were lovely and welcoming. Credit where it’s due—they know how to cook up a proper meal. So despite the frosty start, it was a really enjoyable dining experience in the end. Would I go back? Definitely. But next time, I’ll know better than to aim for the nice window seats. You either need a secret password or the charm of James Bond to land one of those. All in all, The Rock Rose has great food if you don’t mind a bit of a quirky welcome!

Normally me and my husband come along on our own, this time we brought all our family and enjoyed various items off the menu including the lovely carvery roast. There is a great choice on the main menu and the children's menu. We enjoyed all 3 courses and we left very full and contented. Your staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you Rock and Rose.

Cannot fault the Rock rose, we visit regularly, the food quality is excellent, the atmosphere is always very pleasant and the staff are exceptional, spoke to Paul the manager who is always so helpful as are all the bar staff waiters/waitresses. Everyone is doing a great job and we will continue to visit frequently. Never had a bad meal and the choice of food is really good.

I have been many times, but yesterday’s experience was awful. I had a small carvery, I normally get given a couple of slices of meat will a small. Yesterday I was given 1 small slice which the chef cut into 2 pieces. I had to remind him about the pigs in blankets which he then had to go & get from the kitchen. There was barely any horseradish sauce left, I had to scrape what I could from the dish, then the same with the gravy, I literally had to run the ladle along the bottom of the pot to try and get some. Pudding, I ordered sticky toffee pudding with custard. It arrived in a small bowl, with the custard in a separate jug, both balanced on a small plate with a lip which meant to custard wasn’t sitting flat. The waitress struggled to put it down, as she did so the custard started to wobble and went everywhere all over the plate that it was precariously balanced on. She apologised & said she’d get me more. After 10 minutes my new custard still hadn’t arrived & I had to remind her about it. By this time the pudding had gone cold and actually the sponge tasted rather stale. All in all I am so disappointed with my visit!

I think the Rock Rose roast is great. It's good value, the meat is excellent and there is plenty of variety in veges with crispy roast potatoes. Staff always friendly and service prompt.

We decided to visit the Rock Rose whilst on holiday nearby and we found the staff to be extremely welcoming and helpful, giving a 'Family' feel. I personally had the carvery and chose Beef but was very kindly informed by the server that there had been some reports of the Beef being a little tough as it had not had the usual cooking time due to the earlier meat, having run out earlier in the afternoon. This was much appreciated (and I'm sure many other establishments would not have volunteered this information) I chose Turkey and Ham instead and the server bought a new cut of Turkey which was beautiful, as was the rest of the food. Thank you for a lovely meal

First time coming here I had mixed grill was lovely did ask 4 my steak 2 be well done but was still pinky/red in the middle dont like it like that bit overall was lovely my partner enjoyed his carvery friendly staff good atmosphere will definitely be going back

As a group of six people, we chose Rock Rose for the weekly quiz night, having been there many times before. The food was excellent, hot and promptly delivered to our table. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the quiz night was really entertaining.

Food was lovely, service was really good and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the gluten free menu as my daughter has coeliac so we felt very reassured 😊

Since it has changed hands I think this is the best food we have had here. Been here twice now this year and would definitely come back. Food is fantastic and they will help out with any food requirements if you want to change something. Staff are helpful and welcoming.

Awful experience from start to finish. On arrival we has a service dog with us but as we had not intended on going to eat we had not brought his harness. Staff said it was ok to bring him in and website said they were dog friendly. Were told carvery was empty and wouldn't be available for an hour. Ordered off menu and food was awful. Loaded fries looked like someone had thrown up on them. Food was cold. One of our group Ordered a small mac and cheese at the cost of 6.00, it came out and contacted of about enough for 4 mouthfuls. When we asked to speak to the manager after waiting we asked a second time. The manager then came out and explained she had been busy looking up the law on service dogs and made an issue out of us having the dog in their establishment that advertised as dog friendly. A refund was begrudgingly given before we left

Wonderful service and great food. Portion sizes on the kids meals are generous and the play area makes it as a family venue. Clean friendly and all round happy place to be.

First visit here and I am afraid the last. We booked and were taken to our table . The table was sticky all round the edge and obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. We decided to have the carvery and it looked as though we had the last two Yorkshire puddings that had obviously been sitting there for a long while. They truly tasted like cardboard. The waitress asked if everything was OK and we told her about the Yorkshires and she offered us another but that seemed pointless as they were awful. She just said she would tell the chef. A couple of the veg were dried out and the potatoes were lying in a lot of fat. It seemed it wasn't just us, the table behind said he couldn't eat his food and they were giving him a refund..........we didn't bother with desert.

Had the cavery and it was very nice with good portions and very good value for money.

We thoroughly enjoyed our mid week roast at the Carvery! The staff were really friendly (especially Paul behind the bar and the new lad who has just started working on the Carvery - didn't catch his name though)! The food was very tasty. The stuffing was rubbery so I wouldn't personally recommend that, but everything else was very good quality! Thank you 😃 and we will be back to dine with you again soon 😃

popped into Rock n Rose ,havent been in since it changed its name , for a quick bite had sirloin steak cooked to perfection, congrats to the chef ,we’ve been to several restaurants ( even well known steak restaurant in London , !) so well done ( not the steak ) the accompaniments were lovely too nice and hot and quickly served . Our welcome wasn’t that warm, but the lady did have to leave her lunch . The pub itself is a little tired, could do with a spruce up . But altogether a nice experience

I was really disappointed with the service the young lady who was showing people to there tables was not very friendly. I asked her if we could move seats as it was very noisy in the kids area and my son who has autism struggles with noise said bluntly no you can't as we are busy even though there was loads of empty seats even when we left.

I had already paid at the bar for the carvery before looking at the food, The meat was very dry, some of the vegetables were under cooked others over and looked like they had been there all day plus they were cold. The roast potatoes were nice luckily the gravy was hot. The staff were pleasant

Booked early to ensure table (easy) arrived on time of our choice, shown to our table, went to bar for drinks, great service. Decided on Sunday Carvery for food choice, WOW can’t fault the food / service & the ambience, the staff member attended the table to ask if we needed anything & all was ok. We came away well full, the food was as good as mother makes. Recommended

I took my parents here for Sunday lunch today. We all opted for the carvery as it looked good. It was superb and didn’t disappoint. My dad and I had the pork, which was tender and very tasty. The crackling was excellent - so crispy, as were the enormous Yorkshire puddings. Mum had the turkey which was also very good. The chefs were chatty and seemed happy to be there and proud of the food they were serving up. And rightly so. We all throughly enjoyed our dinner and recommend it. Fairly priced too.

Rock Rose has definitely improved. Was very worried about going there as when it was the Kitiwake the experience was awful. But it has definitely turned around and now has become one of my go to places. Staff are friendly and atmosphere great. Well done

My first visit to the Rock Rose, got a a very warm welcome, the place was very clean and tidy, the carvery looked tired but the chef said to à few minutes as he was replenishing it. Nice food and the toilets were spotless.

Always eat here at least once a month for the carvery as it's always a good roast,So Sunday was father's day went there for dinner and ordered carvery now usually the price is ok I was asked at the till regular or small,so ordered small now I was disappointed when I went for my roast to get given a plate no bigger than a side plate,I said to chef is that a mistake and answered saying no it's changed,so I didn't argue usually you get a good bit of meat I got 1 thin slice of ham and hardly any room for any veg as the plate was to small,we ordered a children's meal of pasta garlic bread and veg sticks,well then meal arrived and the carrot had not been peeled and had roots still coming off it,we asked if we could have some clean carrots peeled and washed within 5 mins then carrots arrived this time same as before not washed and sliced up instead of batton,the plate returned and then finally after 15mins we had washed and peeled carrots,On another note if your NHS and use blue light card it's not being accepted no more only Monday-friday on main orders and not the carvery Very disappointed this is the 2nd time we have had to complain and nothing happens,So sadly i will not be coming back to the rock rose as standards are not great and for a regular roast is a extra £2 for the same plate you had before price change Sadly it's a No from me now to visit here,Your best of with Toby carvery bigger plates better roast.

Have been to the Rock Rose many times and find it very good value. Also the staff are always helpful and friendly. The steak deal on Thursday is well worth a visit.

Very friendly staff. Amazing food. When sitting at a table no-one is too cramped. Lots of room. Waiters always ask if everything is okay. Me and my family are regulars and are never disappointed! The best place by far to eat out. Would definitely recommend!

First time ever the foods been poor. I ate from the carvery, the beef was gristle and chewy, I guess we'd got to that bit of the silverside where the connective tissue was prevalent. The roast belly pork had wonderful crackling but little meat, mainly fat and sinew again. The greens still contained whole uncooked stalks and, finally, the leek dish had chunks of raw leek in it which was an unexpected surprise. The rest of the plate was okay, the pigs in blankets were full sized chipolatas and the Yorkshire was crispy. Like I say, first time the meats been rough, which is sad because I really fancied roast beef dinner tonight. Pointed it out to the server who took my plate, he said "Sorry about that" ..... and disappeared. Next time I'll have turkey and gammon.

The service was very good, staff were very friendly. We had a carvery. My Granddaughter is vegetarian and had the cauliflower cheese tart with her carvery. We both said it was the best carvery we had eaten in a long time. The meat was lovely and we had a good variety of vegetables which were cooked to perfection.

It was so easy to reserve a table on your website. As it was for Sunday we knew it would be busy. On arrival, smiles, taken straight to our table. Drinks on the table in 4 mins. Food arrived in 10 minutes, as we didn't have the carvery. Steak cooked to perfection. And all at a ok price ( we had noticed prices had changed but that's the same every where).

The roast potatoes were overcooked and the peas were like bullets,the rest was OK. Disappointing.

Food here has been hit or miss. We have been patrons on and off for a few years, and it was really good initially, but the quality has gone downhill. We had mixed reviews from our party on the food most recently. Mostly the food was okay, however, the well-done mix grill was charcoal, so buyer beware. I doubt we will go back.
