I most didn’t visit the place because of the disappointing reviews it has on here, but oh my goodness, I am SO glad I went! The service, ambience and food were EXCELLENT. We had snacks, starter, main course and sides. It was quite possibly one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. Absolutely delicious, filling, flavoursome and utterly mouthwatering. The whole experience was fantastic. Please don’t hesitate just book it and go - I think some people have nothing better to do than complain.

This was our first trip to Deal for a while, we’d seen the reviews and when we rang to book a table were told it was the first weekend that a Sunday roast was back on the menu. Everything was lovely. The chicken was moist, the roasties crunchy, the only thing we could possibly say would be that more gravy would have been nice - but I’m sure if we’d asked more would have arrived. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Beautiful hotel, very stylishly decorated and the staff are so so amazing and accommodating. The rooms themselves are all unique and quirky, with such comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. The hallways have little treats & drinks available, the breakfast is delicious (loved the granola, coffee & eggs.) We also had dinner one night in their restaurant which was fab. Deal itself has a great vibe, really laid back and loads of independent stores and everyone is lovely. Gorgeous walks along the beach too. Would come back in a heartbeat!

Disappointed overall although the mains were delicious. If you offer a limited menu - say 4 starters 4 mains and 4 desserts then you would expect all to be on offer A simple request. A dish of almonds as per menu @£4.00 a shot. Expensive at the best of times. Sadly run out. But offered cashews instead. Well to say the ramekin of nuts was minuscule is an understatement. Maybe if lucky 20 nuts. More in a packet of KP and the taste as good. The second little entree. A pair of short rib Pasties. But really come on. I think they may have been £8.00 but stand to be corrected. No more than 4cm in length with a morsel of meat just plonked on a plate. Mains. Delicious duck although the risotto was well overcooked with no bite. The cod dish delicious. Desserts. They arrived with an introduction of. “ I have no idea what I am serving you here but here it is” Now I’m not a restaurateur but common sense does prevail. If you are trying to be something special in the world of gastronomy then after 6 years get it right. Don’t offer mediocre undersized plates served by untrained staff and still charge what you charge. If all was well then I would be happy to pay what you charge but don’t charge top sack when the offer is well grow harbour competitors please and before you let your staff loose TRAIN THEM !!!

The Rose was very nice but agree with other commenters that there are a few things that could be changed fairly easily to improve it. Decor throughout is very lovely but could do with a bit of a deep clean. I think the rooms allow dogs but the pink carpet on the stairs was disgusting - so stained and you could see dog hairs everywhere, just needed deep cleaning. Same for the green bench chair in the dining room, lovely colour but so many stains that you suspect a wet clean could take care of. Our bedroom also had lots of dust in all the corners (near furniture, in the bathroom). The food was good (we only had breakfast) but the service let it down a bit. We rushed somewhat to make sure we got downstairs with time to spare before 10am, but it took over ten minutes to order our food, and the young man/boy (he looked very young!!) who took our orders seemed to be doing anything but take them (and same for the table next to us). Our room included breakfast but we were handed a menu with prices on, then asked doesn’t our room include breakfast (I think all of them do?). He had to go away and ask this, clarified it did include breakfast, then when we asked what it included (ie two courses) he had to check that again. I would have thought that would be part of the basic training! When we got drinks the day before there were four people in and out behind the bar but the whole process also seemed quite chaotic. We had to be in Deal anyway that night and I think it seems like the nicest place to stay there, but I think if you’re wanting to do a nice foodie weekend away there are better places in general.

Very nice Sunday lunch in this attractive hotel. Good choice on the menu and great for Deal to have such an interesting place to eat with good variety. We would definitely come back to eat here when visiting Deal. Small car park just around the corner - Deal gets very busy so allow time for parking. Lovely small shops opposite the hotel and a short walk to the sea. Nice outdoor patio garden with pretty flowers.

We have visited The Rose restaurant several times now. We have always enjoyed our evenings there. It's not always been perfect, but this time (7 August) it was perfection. We had a wonderful welcome from Jay, who also helped to find us a more suitable table to dine at. The Whiskey Sour cocktail was perfect, shaken, and poured by an experienced and cheerful young barman. The service was perfect—just the right amount of banter and friendliness. Our waiter was also very knowledgeable about the wines. The food was absolute perfection. David, the chef is very talented. It was one of the best dining experiences we have had in the UK for a very long time. Thank you.

Tried booking a table to eat but the process was utterly ridiculous. First you have to fight your way through a website that doesn’t work well on any browser and then join a queue. When finally you reach the stage where you’re permitted to book a table the site wants to charge your credit card with an undefined amount, just to reserve a table. At no stage does the site tell how much you’re being charged or whether you can get a refund should you decide to cancel. Plenty of other restaurants in Deal.

I generally adhere to my parents' dictum that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it. But I just wanted to register how disappointed my wife and I were by The Rose. We booked in for Sunday lunch several days in advance adding a note about my wife's food allergy. We have friends in the restaurant business and know how tough it is in general without the addition of a 'tricky' dietary requirement at the last minute. We also understand entirely if - as has happened a few times - a restaurant writes back saying they can't offer enough of their menu to justify us visiting. That's fine. We'd prefer honesty and rather avoid the often painful mini-dramas that can ensue. It's meant to be an enjoyable experience, after all, and we've actually had some amazing experiences with chefs who have almost felt tested by her not especially unusual allergy to garlic and onion. But the reaction at The Rose was a strange mix of condescension and disinterest. They didn't respond to the email so we assumed all was fine. But when we arrived the choices offered from their small menu were minimal and none could be adapted - as is almost always the case in a half-decent restaurant. To make matters worse, when we did finally land on a choice of dishes a couple of them were revoked when the young waiter checked with the chef so we had to start again. After half an hour of back and forth we decided it just wasn't worth the effort and decided to leave. To their credit, they didn't charge us for the cocktails we'd drunk, but by that point that was the least they could do. My wife was visibly upset. We've eaten at comparable standard restaurants in Kent - The Fordwich, The Bridge, Angela's, Sargasso, The Sportsman etc - and there's always been a willingness to adapt and accommodate what is, in truth, a not unusual requirement. As I say, we understand it's tricky and are always on the chef's side when we're in their domain, but there are ways of dealing with this - and ways of not dealing with it. A restaurant either rises to the occasion or it doesn't. The Rose didn't.

We almost gave up, because the website was definite that the The Rose restaurant was fully booked. We went on the waiting list as suggested, but never heard back. So we dropped in during the day and then had no problem making a booking for that evening. The website might not be doing them any favours. We were so pleased we did get in. It was a really pleasant experience, with friendly service and good food. Sad to see negative reviews on the site, since at least in our experience, The Rose is well worth booking - if you can….

I love the convivial atmosphere of The Rose and often use the bar for a glass of something before or after dinner. Every so often we give them a chance by having dinner and are usually underwhelmed and resolve to give it a miss for a while. it is poor value for money. For example my wife's fish main course had a fish filet that would struggle to fill 2 fish fingers, a slice of tomato, 3 halves of new potato and some broth. I had the Rose burger which was OK. We both noticed that other tables ordered top-up dishes part way through their meal. The service is generally good. I doubt the management will mind because the PR for the place is good and it will attract lots of tourists, but it could be so much better.

We had a lovely mid-afternoon Sunday lunch here on Mother's Day. Lots to recommend. First, great service all round. Second, fabulous mocktails for drivers. Third, great takes on the conventional Sunday lunch menu, with a real individuality to the served meal rather than heaped up from a carvery. Fourth, deep flavours - the duck rice was just incredible, making the most of the fat and absorbent rice. Fifth, great atmosphere and decor. Sixth, value - we felt the meal was worth every penny. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Eat here, don't sleep here. We stayed for a night on the winter warmer deal, which was overall great value for money. It included a three course meal, which was good. But the room itself, despite being nicely decorated, is a light-sleepers worst nightmare. The church bells sound until late and then go off early, and the sound-proofing is bizarre. You will hear a truck pulling up outside and a person coughing in a communal area like they are by your bedside, but I never heard a sound from anyone else in any of the rooms. They do supply ear plugs but these should be made more obvious. And, apparently, they do warn about the noise on the website but as this was booked by my partner, I had no idea it would be that loud. Again, stay away if you are a light sleeper ( I wish I knew beforehand).

This is not an inexpensive restaurant but it fails to match the price and the hype. Service was terrible, the table adjacent to ours was seated after us and yet served before us. We had to call the server before we could place our order. Food portions were small and the taste very average. We decided not to leave a gratuity due to the negative service levels but discovered that a 10% service had been added to our bill. This is no where advised beforehand, not even on the base of the menu and is unacceptable.

Finding ourselves unexpectedly in Deal, and our usual restaurant seeming to have had a change of approach, we opted for lunch at The Rose. It was superb. Every item of food was innovative and fresh-tasting - turbot, monkfish, pork and even the humble olives - all prepared and delivered in really interesting ways. The choices of wine were similarly inspired. We opted for a delicious natural “orange” wine which one sees rarely on wine lists. The service was excellent, though the restaurant was fairly quiet. We shall return.

We were looking forward to an evening of fine dining after having read the review by Jay Rayner. Obviously the chef isn't the same anymore or he's totally given up. We checked the menu online and made our choice. When getting the menu in the restaurant one of the dishes mentioned online wasn't on there. Another one wasn't available. This limited the choice to 2 mains, none of them to our liking. So we looked at the 'classics' and ordered a hamburger. Obviously we thought that the classics woud hav a modern, fine dining twist. To our disappointment what we got was a quite average, too salty mediocre burger. The fries were certainly not handcut and the mayonnaise come from a bottle. Any chef can easily make fresh mayo but as I said this guy has given up. The starters were pictures of haute cuisine but involved no cheffing skills whatsoever. Burrata with peas and broadbeans and turbot crudo of with grapefruit. Overall very disappointing! Went for Sunday lunch and started with a great cocktail. Our cold starters seemed to take ages to arrive (estimate 45 mins) even though the restaurant did not appear to be that busy. The mains also took ages but were fantastic (apart from the attempt to roast Jersey royals - why do that?!). We didn't dare order desert as would could have been there hours more. Such a shame that they haven't sorted the service. Our waitress was having to make cocktails and serve tables.

It seems the customer is never right if you raise any concerns. Whilst my asparagus and hake were tasty, my partners plate of pebbles from the beach (from our view the clams were missing ) and one tiny rib of lamb were disappointing to say the least. How can one tiny cutlet be described as a rack of lamb. And fries served in a chipped, enamel bowl, may be shabby chic to management but to others chipped enamel is a food hazard. This is now our second underwhelming experience. We will not be going back. Our dining server was sweet, but inexperienced. I suspect staff turnover is very high. And I don’t understand why they would serve such mediocre and overpriced wine. Across the road is a fantastic wine bar serving excellent wine and really tasty cheese, which we indulged in as we had left The Rose feeling hungry.

Great food and drink but the rooms are quite echoey so can be hard to hear one's companions. And the service needs to improve a lot. Components of our order were forgotten, and then starters brought before we'd even received all our canapés. Everyone on the floor was charming, but none seemed to have been trained. Please can the management get a grip on this so the service can match the excellent food.

This was exactly the lunch we were looking for. It was a proper meal, with starter, main and dessert, as opposed to the small plates/tapas service offered in many places now. All the food was excellent. We started with lightly steamed new asparagus with a well made and tasty hollandaise sauce. It was garnished with pea shoots which were perfectly fresh and delightful to eat. (Mentioned because they are so often half dead stringy bits!) Mains were feather steak with cavalo nero and toasted hazelnuts. The steak was carefully cooked, seared on the outside and medium rare, and had a flavoursome sauce/gravy. Boulangere potatoes were crispy on the edges and tender within, again with a good flavour. Rhubarb frangipane tart with slightly gingery pastry and thick cream went down very well. The Walmer Ale and glass of grenache were both very drinkable. Our fingers are crossed that all will still be as good when we go back!

Offered our main dish whilst still eating our starters and had to remind the waiter to bring our wine. But ally that to a warm atmosphere with young staff, children welcome, and dogs sitting happily under the tables, I would trade service perfection for a relaxed, friendly environment. I’m surprised about some of the sniffy reviews for this place. We had a fabulous meal on Saturday evening. The Parker rolls with crab and wild garlic butters were amazing. Slow baked Hake came with lots of green veg with just the right amount of...

Went down to spend a few days in Deal recently and booked a table at The Rose, purely based on a pretty glowing review from Marina O’Loughlin in the Sunday Times. I have to say that I was expecting a lot more. The food was...

Popped in for a drink. Service was awkward as the waiter appeared unsure in general. I ordered some nuts they came in a fancy bowl and were delicious (approx 20 in bowl) when I received the bill they were priced at £3.50! The Prosecco tasted...

We visited with friends yesterday and sat in the garden, lovely atmosphere friendly staff and the food was lovely. I don’t think the exterior looks very inviting but once you are inside it’s got a lovely vibe and you can’t fault the food.

Slightly baffled by some of the poor reviews here, we really enjoyed the Rose. Good, friendly, swift service and excellent food. Loved the little crab doughnut, the skate in garlic broth was delicious, as were the leeks with Jersey Royals. Nice chilled bottle of Beaujolais....

We really wanted to love The Rose but left with mixed feelings. We asked to sit outside and were lead past some stinking bins, really off putting as they were in view as we ate and smelt too. Not a great start. We’d had a...

Excellent new menu - the food was outstanding and hugely enjoyable. The wines we choose were also excellent. Overall the dining experience was faultless and of a very high standard. We will be back and I thoroughly recommend the new menu to anyone living in or visiting Deal. You won’t be disappointed.

We came for a Sunday lunch which was served promptly by staff. There is not a huge choice of dishes, but what we ordered was very well done. We particularly enjoyed the dessert flavour combinations (coffee/chocolate cake and buttermilk/blood orange/almond dessert). The real selling point for the Rose is their luscious interior design, but nonetheless the food was very tasty and served in a relaxed setting.

Wonderful breakfast at the Rose. Coffees, flat whites, were perfect. I had Black Pug sausages and beans on sourdough toast. Spicy and wonderful. My wife had eggs in a skillet with spinach and other great things. Lovely room, first class service and a nice change. Only downside was the odd loo with a shared towel.

that very rare thing, a Sunday roast, at the very end of lunch service that tasted as though it had just been made, and the plum tart was to die for!

This place is a little gem! I have resisted going there because it’s a step up in and I have a wheelchair but it was nice. The atmosphere had a really Friday night vibe. We had Taramasalata, burger and fries and the the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve had. All very good. I will go back for lunch it’s so relaxed.

We spent a Friday evening at the Rose for dinner and drinks. The restaurant space is cosy and we would recommend booking ahead. We both had a cocktail to start, one sloe gin cocktail and a dark stormy (spiced rum) - they were fantastic. For starter we had the croquettes and fried olives, both were great for nibbles. Mains were mac and cheese, and a burger, both of which were decent, though the burger was a little overdone because I had asked for it to be pink. The highlight of the meal was the pudding - THE DUTCH BABY, with buttermilk ice cream and jam. It was to die for, highly recommend ordering this. One between two of you is more than enough.

Food choices were awful. Food was actually awful. What has happened to this 'go to place"? The original atmosphere has been lost. Not even allowed to have some grated cheese on the chips, as it was 'off menu' but there was nothing else in the menu to eat. Never again, it spoilt our day. Staff thought a vegetarian ate fish !!!

Visited the venue as a group of 5 on Friday night. First of all, the staff , one word ...... amazing. They could not be more helpful in accomodating dietary requirements. The food itself was very good quality, the chorizo scotch egg starter was very good but the pork belly main was even better. All five of us were very pleased with our choices. The Whitstable bay beer was also very good. Well done to the team there .

I phoned happy fryer up, asked about a breakfast to be paid over the phone and delivery. Was swiftly told “Can you call back in 10 minutes because he had customers waiting.” even though I would consider myself to be a customer. Just about to pay however gone elsewhere due to bad customer service.

Just popped in for guinness and black and what a warm welcome we had. Ended up staying for Sunday lunch which was very well cooked and they certainly did not scrimp on the portions and very reasonably priced at £14.95. Keep up the good service and thank you we really enjoyed our dinner.
