The best restaurants serving British food in Carlisle North West

Nice to find this place open at 9.00 on a cold Monday morning before a visit to the cathedral opposite. Sat in the window it’s a fine view. Very friendly service in traditional cafe style and an excellent small English breakfast

If I could give it 6 stars I would!! The best food we ate during our stay there and in the surrounding areas. Lake District Etc. The owners were very friendly and seemed to love what they do. Furthermore, the prices compared to the quality of the food are quite low. Vfm!!

We’ve just returned from an incredible evening at the March Bank hotel. I booked a table for a family of five - including 2 fussy teenagers! Every plate went back clean. The service, the food and the whole experience were amazing. Seriously cannot fault it. Located in a beautifully decorated house, with great original art works it was a truly great meal hosted by a lovely family. Can’t wait to come back.

It's been at least 6 years since we were here last. As good as then. The reason it's been so long, we have not been able to get a booking, it's that popular.

Great choice especially for special dietary requirements. Well-cooked, tasty food served with a smile. We will be back!

Closing down soon. Unfortunately another country pub will close down on 30th June 2024. Staff were good and doing their best in the circumstances.

Just fancied a roast lunch and as Toby was closed for refurbishment we ended up in here. A great choice. The food was excellent , hot, ample and tasty. Couldn’t fault the service either. We will return especially for the roast beef and the steak pie. Recommended for a traditional meal .

Reasonable price, dog friendly but everyone had a coat on because it was so cold inside

The place is lovely and the staff nice The food was underwhelming. My chicken breast main - was a dry tough unseasoned chicken breast with a handful of watercress (no parmesan or béarnaise sauce as on the menu) and one mushroom, chips ok - really poor

Very good as usual. This was our third visit & it's become a regular place for us now after buying a holiday home further down the road . Very welcoming & nothing seems too much trouble at all . Decent vegetarian options . Having a career in Catering myself , I can see the extra mile & effort put into the service & food . Can recommend.

Tucked away in the corner of a building this was a delightful place. Great cappuccino and the jam and cream scone has me heading for a diet this week!

Just had two days in this fabulous hotel . Rooms great spotless clean , all hotel staff and locals very friendly and nothing too much trouble . Food great but limited menu . Would definitely recommend and will be back . Thank you String of horses .
