Really lovely meal, big portions and good hearty food! Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and the service was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Bonus points for the felt Christmas trees with the stick on decorations as it kept our friends 2 year old busy most of the night! Will definitely be back. ❤️

Booked a meal having historically heard very positive reviews. Mine won't be positive. Had too wait a long time to be served despite the place being virtually empty. The food would best be described as average. Carrots old and grey. 1 shouldn't have been served (black) We were seated in the lower ground floor area which was freezing. Heated by an inadequate small fan heater. To add insult to injury the owner / proprietor in his wisdom basically ignored us and turned off the fan as he left the pub, whilst we were still eating. The atmosphere in the pub was the same as the temperature. Needless to say we won't be going back.

Fantastic evening, cosy warm country pub. Connor made us feel welcome. The food was out of this world, I had the steak on the stone. The meat full of flavour and the chips you could tell were ‘propper chips’. Stayed the night in a lovely double room which I was surprised had a double shower. Modern and warm. We planned to leave around 2pm but decided to stay for Christmas Sunday roast, WOW… again Connor delighted we stayed for food, made so much effort. Food took around 30minutes which was enough time to have a drink before hand, I had the traditional turkey which melted in your mouth, gravy was just right and the veg all cooked perfectly. Was surprised to see anyone leave negative reviews on this lovely country pub, we will return! Thank you to the staff at the plough inn

We arrived for lunch today a little wary, after far too many rubbish meals out with the folks, I was more than a little dubious if we'd ever find a decent Sunday lunch or place to eat in Cumbria but.....FINALLY we have. The roast beef I was told was fabulous, the gammon also great, my sausage ring also very tasty, the veg was cooked to perfection, absolutely devine carrots and the cauliflower cheese was out of this world delicious, the only small downside was the yorkies were a touch too dark for my personal taste. Somehow I managed to fit a desert in, not sure if the wait between courses was due to them being slightly understaffed, they were extremely busy, and rightly so, or a sly trick to get a desert in us but it worked and I'm soo glad it did! I'm not sure who made the Tart au Citron but my god when I say it was so light and melt in the mouth refreshing, I could have eaten it again and that lemon drizzle, yummy. Well done to all at the Plough Inn, a bit disappointed I couldn't get a steak pie but we WILL be back so maybe next time eh?! Seriously keep on doing what you are doing as you are knocking it out the park, thankyou for a fabulous meal

Friday night visit on our way back to Edinburgh and as always the Plough came up trumps. I had venison ‘on the stone’, superb. As a chef myself the meat itself had been superbly prepared and the sauce that accompanied was outstanding, the wife had mushroom pasta which again was absolutely delicious. Top marks, Top chef clearly and excellent service all round. I will definitely be visiting for one of the steaks that was served to the other table! 10/10.

We had a good time at this place. Ideally situated just off the M6 where we could meet up with my husband’s Uncle on his travels. He chose crab cakes to eat. I had the steak pie which was humongous with mashed potatoes. vegetables and lashings of gravy. My husband had a chicken Thai Green Curry which he said tasted delicious. One of the others chose sticky toffee pudding which was another ample portion. I would say the food was excellent and staff really nice, friendly and efficient. Definitely a place to come back to. I definitely want to be tucking into their steak pie again. I can’t understand why it was so quiet on a Saturday afternoon? Go try it and see what you think!

The Plough Inn is a very welcoming Pub/B&B in the charming small village of Wreay. We stayed in a very tastefully decorated and furnished room with a kingsize bed which had just been refurbished (we were the first ones to stay and other rooms are currently being upgraded) As expected everything was very clean and new in the room. The ensuite has a very large shower and some toiletries were supplied. Full English Breakfast was amazing, all local produce used and very generous portions that set us up for the day. Sunday roasts were great, in fact all of the menu seems to live up to expectations, again no small portions. All in all we had a great stay, all of the staff are friendly. Sam is working very hard to get things right and Ben is doing great stuff in the kitchen. There are a few things that are needed to complete the rooms and we were told that these will be sorted. None of which spoilt our stay and we are looking forward to returning here again. 😁😁

We had the most amazing family meet up lunch here ! I called ahead to book as we were a party of 8, happened to speak with the chef who was understanding that as it was a birthday surprise- we didn’t have to pre-order. The atmosphere as we walked in was warm and friendly with very helpful staff at the bar. We were not rushed to order and when we did the menu did not disappoint. The specials were all amazing sounding and ended up having a mixture of Burgers, fish & chips, pate, fish pie (fresh and OMG what a serving), the lamb shank (slid off the bone beautifully, and the star of the day the Game Pie. Wow, full of meat, and freshly cooked (hot water pastry I think), just amazing! I cannot fault anything about our visit- for a place that is just 5mins from the M6, a little south of Carlisle - it’s a gem of a village pub. If only I could lift it to where we stay 💕 Thanks so much and next time we pass - I’ll be popping in for a bite to eat and some warmth from the log burner! Note: pub is dog friendly (we left ours at home), and has a v cute wee Canine Menu. Superb asset to Wreath😊 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Last minute decided we wanted a proper pub meal and looked to see if we could get in The Plough as we had been wanting to try it for ages. We managed to secure a booking, probably as it’s January as this pub is ordinarily booked up. The pub inside is still traditional but also modern as it has obviously been tastefully re-furnished in the not too distant past. The food was superb. I opted for the mushroom starter which was way beyond the usual ‘creamy, garlic mushrooms’ most pubs seem to offer as a starter. It was rich and unctuous, served with fresh, still warm bread. For mains my wife chose the Plough Burger which was excellent and actually tasted of beef (at some places you’re lucky if they taste of anything) served on a freshly tasting seeded roll and with chips and onion rings (freshly cooked with lovely crispy batter). It’s a minor niggle but the chips had the appearance and texture of oven chips, still nice but fresh chips may have elevated this dish higher. I went for the special of Game Pie and I was not disappointed at all. Packed to rafters with game meat and tasted absolutely beautiful. As it was cooked fresh the waitress warned us there may be a wait for the pie, but it was not long at all, and I didn’t feel it could have arrived quicker. It was served with mustard mash and seasonable vegetables of which there was what I would term a ‘proper’ portion. The pie was full of gamey flavour with a hint of sweetness (possibly from the pastry which was in itself full of flavour). I was fully prepared to order a dessert but the pie was huge and very filling All in all an excellent meal in lovely pub setting and we will no doubt visit again.

Called in when travelling back to Edinburgh, it has certainly been a while since our last visit but again we left with big smiles all round. Being a chef myself I can be rather critical, however this spot clearly uses excellent quality local produce and they quite obviously have a top top chef in the background. I had the game pie, the range of flavours, all of which worked perfectly together was staggering (dare I say I would struggle to do better) and the mustard mash cut the richness beautifully. Possibly the best pie I have had. The wife had SeaBass, again quite tricky to get right but chef nailed it, superb, quite a light dish but super satisfying as the wife could not finish it. Excellent menu backed with a good choice of specials and we were well looked after by the bar manager.

Food was alright. Wasn't bad but wasn't amazing either. Not sure why it's rated so highly. Lamb was nice but wasn't much added flavour. Gravy could have add more taste. Ham special was ham out of a tin which was stone cold and had jelly on

After visiting the lakes we all wanted a Sunday roast so booked a table online for the Plough. The food was fantastic, we had a combination of beef and lamb and my daughter the veg roast, all of which were fantastically well cooked, the lamb just fell off the bone and my daughter loved the veg roast, so much better than your standard vegetarian roast offerings. Everything packed with flavour and well cooked, and the cauliflower cheese is to die for, I would be happy with just a bowl of that as my meal! The venue was unbelievably busy but we didn’t have to wait to long for our orders or food to come and we were more than impressed. Has to be the best roast in the Carlisle area.

Decided to book for our anniversary dinner after seeing many great reviews online about how fantastic the food was. Honestly was quite disappointed with the overall experience. Despite the price tag of the food, its not upscale dining. There was a younger lady in pj bottoms and a hoodie having their dinner in one corner of the place and it's definitely more a village pub than a restaurant. My mistake They seemed amazingly busy as well, enough so that we were only given a menu 10 minutes after being seated, were forgotten about several times, ordered the same drink 3 times and were forgotten in the chaos and it was a very underwhelming experience. Choice of starters was limited to something deep fried, bread or creamy garlic mushrooms. I had the mushrooms, and my partner had the halloumi. Both were amazing. Taste wise they were absolutely fantastic and couldn't fault presentation either. If the whole meal had been that good I'd have been happy. We went on Sunday, so Sunday roasts were on the menu. I had the beef, he had lamb. The portions are enormous. Like ungodly unreasonable. I can't speak for the lamb but the beef was tender and medium rare, but the accompaniments let the meal down. The cauliflower cheese was vile, just a pot of cauliflower and cream with mozarella dumped on top, and the roast potatoes were not crisp and very bland. No-one can finish more than a quarter of what was served. We ordered dessert to go, as we were far too full, and for £8.50 a piece, we expected slightly more than the tiniest slivers of peanut butter chocolate pie. Because we got it to go, we weren't served part of the dessert as well, the ice cream. Understandable due to melting ofc, but I was in shock that we paid £17 for 2 pieces of cake no bigger than your average plastic door stop. Taste wise, not unpleasant but nothing to write home about. Fairly sickly which I feel is the reason for the small portion but not worth the price. Honestly I'd go again with friends, areas of the experience were great, but I wouldn't go as far as to believe some of the reviews on here that the Plough Inn is suitable for event meals. It just wasn't appropriate an anniversary.

Held in high regard with family and friends, this visit was no exception. I ordered the Wild Boar Pie from the specials board, I was made aware of the 20-25 minute wait as the pies were made fresh to order which turned out to be...

Superb food and service, I did say to the chap it was the best tuna/mayo baguette I have had and I've around for a few years. My good lady said the same about the bacon and brie baguette. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Also seems a local favourite. A gem. 👍👍👍

Me and my partner often go to crumbs, it’s absolutely amazing and it’s always our first choice for a spot off lunch. Can’t get enough off the staff, there always so nice and talkative!
