Went there a while ago. Such very lovely staff, great fry up and lovely cuppa. Please go to this cafe 🙂🙂🙂

This small cafe is located by the cathedral. The staff are lovely and the food they prepare is good old washed tasty meals. This is a popular place with locals, who want to watch the world go by.

Really lovely cafe. Food was all home made and really tasty and plentiful. If we are in the area again we will definitely return.

Every time we come to Carlisle from Scotlands we always come here for food. Very friendly cafe with typical cafe food and friendly service.

We had such a lovely meal here. Cumerland sausages were very tasty. Simple menu but delicious food at a good price. Staff very friendly.

Called in here purely by chance going between the castle and cathedral. Proper old style café with great food, atmosphere and staff. Had the Cumberland sausage, egg and chips and could not fault a single thing. It's a good job I don't live closer as otherwise my waistband could suffer.

We ordered 5 meals (breakfast) 4 of these meals were good but all of the meals had cold bacon. One of the meals had a mouldy bread roll (teacake). Also the toilets were unclean and had a horrid odour. Athough, the staff were friendly.

One cannot claim to have tasted Cumberland sausages until he's had the ones from The Chimes. Didn't expect lunch to be the highlight of my recent visit to Carlisle.

Great tasting food, staff friendly, reasonably priced. We had the soup - I liked how they didn't add too much salt and it had lots of flavour - the shepherd's pie and the sausage egg and chips. Thoroughly enjoyed all.

Simple wholesome food. Uncomplicated, friendly staff, convenient location and good prices. They deserve to be successful.

Having only been a State Pensioner for four months, it's still a novelty to me to be able to take advantage of, in this case, a 'Senior Citizens Deal'. I had a main course, sweet and pot of tea for £9.50. Lovely food and atmosphere. Shame Bristol Rovers went on to lose 1-0 to Carlisle Utd.

We had a lovely little bite cooked breakfast, speedily delivered to our table by friendly staff. A good start to out draft our in Carlisle.

Lovely all day breakfast with toast. Nice coffee to go with it. Chocolate cake was lovely too. Reasonably priced.

We visited on 13th October on a day trip out for my husband's birthday. The cafe was deserted when we entered at 11.30 am but within half an hour, virtually every table was taken - and now we know why! We ordered all day breakfasts and can honestly say it was the best we've had for yonks! The sausages (which I don't usually eat) were beautiful, the hash browns (which I also tend to leave as they're usually tasteless nothings) were to die for and must have been home-made and the eggs (which I always insist are dippy but covered over on top) were just right. I did say I was a fussy eater. This seems to be a very popular place with locals and we understand why! Well done! We shall be back whenever re revisit Carlisle. Thank you.

We called in here before visiting the castle. The food and service were excellent. Well worth a visit.

We visited this cafe after a trip to the castle. We were after tea and cake, but the food looked so good we ended uphaving a meal. The cafe is clean and tidy, the food excellent, and the staff friendly. If you are visiting Carlisle Castle or cathedral give this cafe a try you won't regret it.

The food was incredible, the portions were a great size and the lady running it was so friendly and accommodating. This café made our trip so much better. A definite must visit if you're in the area.

Welcoming atmosphere great food. Popped in for brunch and had the large breakfast and vegetarian breakfast. both meals arrived hot, freshly cooked and very well presented. Everything was tasty and prepared well. Staff were polite and friendly. Will dine here again when in Carlislr

Popular cafe which is basic, but serves good typical British cafe food. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Very much feels like you have gone to your grans for lunch and it has a nice warm and friendly atmosphere. They serve a roast dinner which we unfortunately did not order, but it looked amazing. Menu is reasonably priced and we will be back. Accepts card, contactless and cash payments

Me and my friend came for breakfast before our christmas shop. Breakfast was gorgeous served by lovely staff.

We called into the chimes thismorning for breakfast .A first time visit and it certainly wont be the last .served by a lovely lady who took the time for a chat .A very good English breakfast was brought to our table along with 2 coffees and a proper chocolate milkshake for our teen .All in all Great service, great food and a great price .

Wife and I both agreed this was a great cafe. Fab menu. Food freshly cooked. Chatty waiting on staff. Dishes well presented and hot. Fantastic puds.

After wondering round the beautiful cathedral we needed a cup of tea.So popped into this little cafe, cheerful staff nice cake and best cup of tea I’ve had while we have stayed.

Right opposite the Cathedral, this is a good place from which to people watch. It also serves a very nice cup of coffee and teacake! Sadly for her, the cafe was not very busy when we stopped for coffee, but it did mean that the lady owner took the time to sit and chat with us, which was very nice.

Having stayed overnight in Carlisle we were looking for a traditional breakfast to set us up for the next leg of our journey and found it at The Chimes. It is a nice clean cafe, serving a good range of breakfast options. My son just about demolished their big “two of everything” breakfast without stopping he was enjoying it so much. Good cup of tea too. Very friendly staff, who were having fun with their new card machine. They obviously have a regular clientele, which is a always a good sign for any cafe. Give it a go.

A typical british cafe, home cooked food and great service. The prices are good and selection is enough for a cafe. Great cakes too :)

Had lunch here after shopping in the city.There is an extensive sandwich choice.There are hot meals available also, like pies & chicken in a basket.The puddings are homemade, and included such choices as jam sponge & bread and butter pudding.There are no fancy coffees, pastries nor muffins here.

Family place with homemade cakes and really tasty coffee. Staff was super kind. 100% recommended

We stopped here for lunch, which was ok. Salad is served without dressing but omelet is ok. Tea was weak, with one t-bag for a large t-pot but out waitress was obviously new. Friendly and quite fast but I would not return.

Spent the day in Carlisle and had lunch in this cafe. It faces a church and looks nothing from the outside and pretty basic inside. But clean and tidy and friendly staff.i had lemon chicken salad for lunch, which was really tasty and came with bread and butter. Coffee was good also.They had quite a variety of different meals and scones etc.If in the area again would go again.

Charming cafe in the city centre. You can pop in for a coffee or a meal. I can highly recommend the baked potato and the Cumberland sausage. Very pleasant friendly staff more than happy to accommodate a wheelchair user.

Lovely wee cafe opposite the Carlisle Cathedral - went last year whilst on a wee break and specifically went back again this year. Food lovely and fresh and staff very friendly.

We had lunch here today. Excellent food, freshly cooked once ordered. Can thoroughly recommend the cafe even just for coffee. Friendly staff, very reasonable and there are Pensioners specials.situated just across from the cathedral.

we were heading for the Castle and found this great little Cafe. Food was very good and the bill extremely reasonable. Highly recommend.

Town centre cafe / restaurant which seems mainly to cater for older people. Cuisine is traditional home cooked British favourites e.g. steak pie, chips & veg., Cumberland sausage, omelettes, ham salad, all day breakfasts etc. and for afters the likes of bread & butter pudding, crumbles with custard etc. Sandwiches, scones etc. are also available. Nothing fancy about the place. Everything is basic but clean and the service is usually very quick and helpful.

We had a day in Carlisle from Settle.Found this gem of an eatery The meals were very good.The place was spotless & plenty of room.The food was piping hot and excellent.Try the lemon meringue so yummy.

Found this wee cafe while on a day trip .Totally amazing food .Everything fresh not frozen.We both has roast beef with all the trimmings and bread and butter pudding with custard.Enjoyed every mouth full.The staff were very friendly .If i ever come back to carlisle i will pop in for a lovely meal

Called in by chance today with my wife for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised, their food tasted great and the price of the food was well below other establishments in the city. We found the staff to be very friendly and the service couldn't have been better, we will certainly look to visit again in the future.

Me and my partner stumbled across The Chimes Cafe whilst looking for a spot of lunch. Its a small, traditional cafe serving really good food. The cumberland sausage was absolutely beautiful and the chips are cooked to perfection. The coleslaw they serve is homemade and out of this world, really creamy and tasty. It felt as you were eating at home as the woman who served us was ever so welcoming and very freindly (Goes a long way). The cafe was kept nice and clean with a hygiene rating 5/5. We found the value excellent too as our meals were super. Will deffo return if shopping in carlisle again. Great food, great hospitality..

We had a hearty lunch here and enjoyed it very much. I had homemade steak pie with chips and fresh veg, while my partner had the scampi. Then for pud there was Manchester tart on offer! Yum.. I hadn't seen any on the east side of the Pennines for years! We will certainly be going back. Also I understand they change the menu daily.

I've eaten here several times and the food is always good simple fayre. The staff are very friendly and for a cheap good value meal with a wonderful view of the Cathedral

Called in here after visiting the Cathedral, very friendly staff, ordered two Sunday lunches, Wife had minted lamb and I had brisket & Yorkshire pud, both were very good and service was fast.Good value home cooking, will call here again when next in Carlisle.

Pretty good standard Café, nothing too special. I ordered a Tikka Toastie and I thought it tasted great and was a good price. I also ordered a Latte which was pretty good. The actual decor wasn't all that but just for some quick cheap lunch a nice little place to go to.

Great little old school cafe with an amazing view of the cathedral. Was sat outside eating what was a great value breakfast and mug of coffee. Wonderful staff and the lady owner was a gem. Didn't have any cash so had to go to the bank and she didn't bat an eyelash! Nice to know people are still trusting. Give it a try.

So cheap, good value for money. Staff really friendly, they make an effort to talk to customers. Brought a large group of my family on a hung-over Sunday morning after my 21st, they opened early for us without warning and service was still excellent as always.

We popped in for a brew after trailing around the Castle, it was quite late in the afternoon but a after quick glance at the menu we all fancied something to eat as well. The lady (I'm guessing she is the owner) seemed to take no time at all to present seven different Panini sandwiches accompanied by salad, coleslaw and crisps. It was just what we needed, good food, good brew and good value. Quite happy to come back for more.

The lady that runs the cafe was so helpful and boy can she cook. We all had the basic breakfast (egg, bacon, sausage, tomatos, mushrooms, fried bread, toast and a pot of tea and all for £4.30) and made fresh. I can't recommend this cafe enough. Its at the side of the Cathedral. I'll definately be returning next time I'm in Carlisle.
