Very tasty food, all homemade and with a great passion for serving good food by the owner. Their speciality is hot dogs, but these are not like any other hot dog I have experienced before. To be seen to be believed! Beautifully prepared, presented and served and very delicious. We had a very friendly reception and were made to feel very at home and welcome throughout our visit. Can't wait to come back and bring my partner next time. Good beer too!

We visited The Drovers Rest yesterday for a bar meal. It was the first time we ve been here in a few years but we have always liked this pub. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the gammon and one of their hotdogs. A very generous portion and everything was so tasty and you feel like they re cooking just for you. The chips were particularly good. The home made sausages are excellent. The vibe in the pub is so good, you are made to feel like old friends and very welcome, even though there seem to be a lot of local people in attendance, you re made to feel at ease and the service and reception you receive is just brilliant The absolute antithesis of American Werewolf in London scene.. lol The owners are lovely people and the little touches of the outdoor rugs, games and little extras in the toilets are really lovely. They deserve all the recognition as this is a little gem of a pub.. x

We had family arrive from Devon as a surprise last minute trip. There was 12 of us in total and we weren’t sure where to go for tea as it was so last min. My husband loves the Drovers so we decided to try there but hadn’t actually booked. Becky and Tom went above and beyond to accommodate us. They already had bookings in and a vinyl music night on so we really appreciated them doing it. The food was absolutely amazing. I had (the huge)sausage and mash and was so full after, that I fell asleep as soon as I got home. Everyone commented that their food was delicious, red hot and good portions. My daughter said the Mac and cheese was the best ever and even finished off her baby sisters. The service was excellent and I love that they even have suitable toddler cups and plastic cutlery. Nowhere does this! Overall, the Drovers Rest is fantastic and we had a really lovely time catching up with family there. Thank you! Can’t wait to return.

At the Drovers on Saturday evening celebrating friends' Golden Wedding. An excellent pub rediscovered. Great food, lovely landlady and we even got to meet the chef. A proper country pub with craft beers and good wine selection. The waiting staff were incredible. As far as I could make out, young students from the villages nearby. Attentive, respectful and happy to engage with us. I have never come across this level of attention with pub staff before. An absolute joy to be in their company. Of course we are going back!!!! Took a drive round the stunning Solway coast and found this little gem at Monkhill. Super little 18th century inn specialising in home made hot dog sausage, slow smoked on the premises. I and the wife had the one with slow cooked pork belly, cheese and jalapenos. Absolutely delicious. Sausage are about 10 to 12 inch of prime meat. Delicious and well prepared. We couldn't finish ours but did get a well done better than average! The rest is in a doggy bag for later. If you're in the area, don't waste the chance to sample these delights...

Best pub food we’ve ever had. Portions are huge but it’s very much quantity and quality. We went two nights in a row and ordered the hot dogs. We went with a group of 4 and then 9. The whole team are incredibly friendly, and will help you pick the perfect beer for your food. You can also get flights of local beers. I wish we lived nearer by so we could go all the time! They’re very dog friendly and even have blankets so the dog can sit with you.

Poor choice of menu. Their special Sausage just not nice, far too Smokey . Soup was awful, could just taste pepper, . Chips ok but too thick. Overall not a good experience. Staff not good, no knowledge of menu or drinks. No condiments offered, not even butter for the roll. Would not return. Smelt damp & just too obscure & niche for its rural setting. Won’t return.

Horrendous food but really good ales!!After being told this place had great beers we were keen to try it… Nice looking pub the barmaid was great very nice and helpful. food was bar tapas by the looks of it the chef cooks things in advance on the weekends for it to be reheated in the week by the staff (I’m fine with that if it tastes good) the Mac and cheese balls we’re powdery and cold in the middle, the cheese was questionable (i’m aware it was pickled like the Czech do it) but it had half a broken tooth pick hidden inside, the Scotch egg look cooked at least 3 times on a bed of stone cold fried onions it was a no go from the start, the gammon sandwich with parsley sauce was nice but the bread was a bit stale but tasty, HOWEVER the beef in Yorkshire pudding was delicious. I’m sure this was an off night and they are struggling with staff due to Covid as we could hear the “chef” displaying some chose words from the kitchen.

Not sure what the previous reviewer is on about really, every where has their menus online these days - who rocks up somewhere not knowing what they do?Anyway, we rocked up knowing exactly what to expect and it was absolutely spot on. My son and I had a chilli dog each and shared fully loaded fries while my wife had the Monkfish fries. They were all absolutely delicious and the he best thing about the hot dogs was that it was the actual home made sausages that are the star of the show, they are properly amazing. Be so easy for it to all be about the toppings.Beers still up to par - this was our favourite local pre COVID and looks like it still is. Best of luck to Tom and Beki.

No pasta, no salads, no starters, no steak etc Our choice was chips with a choice of toppings or sausage in roll with a choice of toppings. Fine if you are a teenager...........The specials were a veggie flatbread, a curry, a burger, swordfish or a roast dinner.

Stopped here twice over last weekend, so it must be alright! First visit was on a Friday afternoon and we were only passing on our way to The Tranquil Otter, so had a couple of drinks in the beer-garden round the back. Really nice setting and the two girls serving were very pleasant and helpful. Brought our dog out a sausage which was a nice gesture. Beer garden was a good sized grassed area and really pleasant. Second visit was the day after (Sunday evening) for our tea. It's only about 2.5 miles from where we were staying, but I would definitely not recommend walking between the two. Don't think there's pavements for any of it, and it's not a slow road. Took the dog with us again, which was no problem. The service was friendly and fast, so no issues there. The missus and I had looked at the menu online before we went and both had our hearts set on a steak that was listed on there but it wasn't on the menu when we got there (or the Specials Board). We'd both decided we wanted a steak though, so thought we'd treat ourself to the Ribeye that was on the Specials menu. The food was all reasonably priced, but this Ribeye was about £10 dearer than anything else (it was £24.95). Anyway, it was our 2nd anniversary and I'd promised her a steak, so we both went for it. It came really promptly and was absolutely delicious. Everything about it was good, especially the sauce combined with the steak. It was an excellent meal, and kind of lessened the blow of the price! The young girls serving were very attentive and we never had to wait for anything. They were really friendly and brought treats over for the dog. Overall we had a really good night with all the drinks we needed, excellent food and really good service. Right, now for the reason why I've only given it 4 stars - the flies!!!! Oh my life, they were everywhere!!!! Please, please, please, get some fly-paper hung up or one of those UV lights that zaps them!!!!! I realise that the odd fly is a fact of life, but the number of flies we battled with throughout our meal was beyond a joke. We'd both had showers before we went out, so it was nothing to do with the flies finding us particularly appealing! Other than that we both had a great night and would definitely go back.

My partner and I were staying in a lodge nearby and decided to go out for a meal. It was a coin toss between this one and another randomly chosen one that was nearby, and my god we're glad we chose to eat here. Nothing better than a random epic food find, and this was most definitely that. Service was great too and the lady who served us was very friendly and professional. We tried the classic hot dog, which despite the fact that it's on the menu as something for "smaller appetites" is probably big enough for a main meal. The sausage is home made and home smoked, really good quality and nothing but meat, an absolute winner. We also had the banana blossom tempura which was lovely again and the goat curry which was the most expensive item we tried as it was one of the specials, but genuinely lovely and worth paying the extra for. I will be wholeheartedly recommending this place to people who are visiting the area.

My wife and I have been coming to the Drowers Rest for over 23 years and have seen it with different land lords in different guises. We were interested to see how it was under new management .There are pubs that serve beer and provide food, as was it was under the previous owners. They provided good standard pub food with a good repartee with the customers. Then there are others that serve a different type of menu, specializing on service with beer to accompany the food, but without customer interaction. The Drovers now falls into the second category. It still has a very good atmosphere ,but the emphasis is on food. I would say it is now more like a Bistro than a pub. I had the sausage pie which was very good , however a little lit of gravy would have helped. I thought 6 chips was not great. My wife had the goat curry, which she enjoyed, however she said it lacked moisture. What was way over the top was £7.50 for a large glass of wine. My daughter works in hospitality in Carlisle and she said that £4.95 was the standard cost for a large glass of white wine in this type of establishment. Under previous occupants it was £4.50 which is a large increase. In the end we found the night a lot more expensive under the new owners.I think we maybe old school, however I am sure what the new owners offer will suit a younger clientele. We wish them luck in their new venture, however its not for us.

The beer selection was great and there was a nice diverse selection. Beki was knowledgeable about the beers and made good recommendations. The menu was exciting and interesting. Most of the items had an exciting twist making it unique. The hardest part was choosing one item from the list. It's definitely a menu that brings people back to try the next item.I ordered the goat curry and it was perfect. Good portions and good value. The new landlady is very professional. Attentive and friendly. A remarkable change in atmosphere.Only request. Please don’t get rid of the Hawkshead Lakeland lager. It Is a flavoursome lager very much like a German filtered Helles (perhaps why another Carling drinking reviewer didn’t like it!). The Drovers Rest in Monkshill (nr Carlisle) on the Solway Firth ia due to Change of mangment at the start 9f September 2020.It is an a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale -0 Solway group) award winning pub In called in with my father for a couple of pints and they were more than happy to give us a bowl of chips (which were home cooked to order). If rhe new management keep up these stansards than it is an excellent country pub well worh a visit for a pint.

I went for my first post-lockdown meal and the safety procedures out in place were amazing and I felt really safe! I had the mushroom cobbler as a main which was served with salad and skin on fries- the portion was super generous and would thoroughly recommend

What a hidden gem. A pub as pub’s should be with an open roaring fire and friendly staff. There were 9 in my party including children and the menu catered for all. I had the black pudding with poached egg starter followed by the amazing home-made pie and it was sublime. Would definitely recommend dining here however book in advance as the eating area for larger parties is quite small.

We visited the Drover’s rest on consecutive nights while staying in Burgh-by-Sands. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was inviting and the food was well priced and hearty. A definite recommendation.

Passed this little place on the way to a family weekend away and decided that we would pop in on the way home. I am so glad we did. It's not only cosy and inviting from the outside but inside is just as lovely. Exactly the type of place we love. Very clean and staff were very nice and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious. I opted for the steak and ale pie which was a special and it was just what the doctor order. Delicious, hearty and a great sized portion. We will most definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Lovely to sample some of the local ales in the garden, watching the sunset at the end of a long day! We will be back soon to try the food!

We arrived without a booking, but didn't have to wait too long on a Saturday evening. Lots of good veggie options - the mushroom stroganoff with herb scones was delicious. Nice olde pub atmosphere (and dog friendly too). There's also a beer garden at the back, beside the car park.

We were visiting the area and had tried to get in somewhere else for dinner but they were fully booked. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we found the Drovers. By contrast to the other place which had been recently "refurbished" (i.e. de-characterised and sanitised, the Drovers was a breath of fresh air - characterful and buzzing with gemuetlichkeit. No wonder they've won so many pub of the year awards.

Very much a locals pub which is great to see but locals were making inappropriate comments about a female who had just left pub and disappointed that person serving behind bar did nothing to shut conversation down. I was now only female in bar and feeling uncomfortable with the conversation. Food ok would be nice to have choice of potatoes, chips is only option it seems

Myself and my wife called here for a bite to eat on our way home to Manchester. We chose the Drivers Rest after reading good reviews on trip advisor. The pub is a small traditional country pub, with numerous 'pub of the year' awards on disply. A little dated but with lots of character. A warm welcome from the landlord and we enjoyed a decent meal. Basic pub grub, we enjoyed the various burger offerings, good value with many real ales and ciders to choose. Unfortunately I was unable to take advantage of the many liquid temptations available, due to the long drive home but if staying locally I would imagine a pleasant evening could be enjoyed chatting with the friendly staff and locals whilst sampling the varied bar offerings.

We ate twice either side of a visit to Scotland and loved it each time. Friendly and helpful staff, top quality pub food and range of wine and beer as well as a great atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for more.

Visited with friends for early evening meal and for a Tuesday night the place was busy when compared with other country pubs. A welcoming open fire and comfy seating is always a plus. Two of us had the fish and chips which we had chosen on previous visits and again we were not disappointed - crispy batter and succulent fish - plus really well cooked chips. Our friend tried one of the curries and really enjoyed the flavours with a good heat in the curry. The pub offers real ales which it changes regularly; we tried couple of the blonde ales and they were clean on the palate with a hoppy fruity taste. An enjoyable evening and we will certainly return. It was difficult to get near the bar to see the selection of great beers available and to place your orders. Obviously a popular pub for locals at the end of a working day but giving a bit more space to other customers near the bar would be good.

A taxi driver recommended this place to us for food and we weren't disappointed. I had the most delicious creamy mushrooms with herby scones. Unfortunately the portion was so big that I didn't get to eat dessert. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Attended a reunion with friends here, private dining on the terrace, the service was appalling, they had 3 large parties and obviously insufficient staff. The starter arrived some 25 minutes late, tepid soup, not very appetising, then a 55 minute wait for the mains, overcooked beef and lukewarm veg, no gravy, the a wait for sweet, sticky toffee pudding, can't go wrong with that, oh yes they could, pudding had sort of crust on it and was served with a miniscule portion of ice cream. All in all a huge disappointment and not what we expected, they really need to up their game.

The best coffee in Brampton! We love coming here for coffee and breakfast. Very friendly owner, Emma and her lovely baristas work hard to get your order just right. There are a great range of coffee, tea and home made cakes as well as savoury hot food. The place is often bustling with cosy chat, interesting art work on the walls (Emma has artist’s displays each month) and it’s also dog friendly too. Just a great place.

Accommodated a last-minute booking due to poor bookings at other local eatery. The food was exceptional and plentiful. Staff were very welcoming and nice to chat to. Bar was fully stocked, and overall, the price was very reasonable for a couple.
