The best restaurants serving British food in Castle Carlisle North West

I know this is a Greene King pub and expectations shouldn't be high, but this was really not good. When our food turned up it was an exercise in minimalism. While the burger was OK, it came with a tiny single lettuce leaf on it, and about 2 small red onion rings. There were literally about 20 skinny fries and two small deep fried onion rings. No garnish. On the plate it was served on which was probably 25+ cm, it looked like a kids portion. When we asked the staff about this they were completely disinterested in anything we said, just shrugging shoulders and walking off. Unless you want to watch the sports on screen while drinking beer, I wouldn't recommend.

Food absolutely beautiful and staff very lovely and nothing a problem I would recommend time anyone to go for something to eat or just have a few drinks - great atmosphere as well

The pub is located in the heart of a pretty village.We had a very comfortable room with excellent food - a great location for a weekend away.

Although packed, a member of staff got us a table, quickly and there was no wait for our meal. Great ambiance, helpful staff and good bar food.

This is the second time we have been here now. The first time was just for some take away chips and curry sauce. Returned a few weeks later again on the way home from the lakes and had the pensioners special (we aren’t pensioners). Perfect size if you aren’t starving. Fish was lovely with light crispy batter, lovely chips and again … their amazing curry sauce with the bits in. This place (plaice) is lovely and clean. As a lot of fish and chip places can be a bit on the grubby side so keep up the good work.

wrong sauce put on salad (barbecue instead of teriyaki). My partner called and the manager was rude saying that his worker guarantees that it was the right sauce. when offered to prove that it was barbeque sauce and not teriyaki with a photo, the manager said that he wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so there was no resolution.

A regular place to visit for lunch for us. Food is incredible.

Lovely ambience ,dull menu . Made to feel like an idiot when I ordered a soup and a cheese scone .Instead of soup for me and a cheese scone for my Mum please .Separately . Not v busy at 1pm on a sunny day in school holidays .

Dreadful! Ordered ahead as wanted gluten free option. Staff very unfriendly and had shocking attitudes! Staff incorrectly labelled my food - despite my gluten intolerance. Spent entire weekend violently throwing up as a result of their lack lustre approach. Avoid at all costs!!

Ordered waffle and mini donuts as a Saturday night treat for myself and partner, almost 2 hours later no delivery, I have just phoned them now and was told they did come and knocked on the door, we were sat with the living room door open to hear the front door and there's not a chance anyone knocked on the door. Been told to go through food hub for a refund and they refused to refund us (sweet tooth) . Appalling customer service and at over £15 I think that's disgusting. We both work hard and fancied a treat. Good customer service would be refunding the money or re sending the items out but they refused that too. Don't waste your time or money!
